not a desktop, and no way to upgrade the bits and pieces inside the Machine.
mojo, give the settings that santobrazil proposes a shot. the stuff that is written in the opengl section of the conf ini, compare his with yours.
the sky, water and Landgeom stuff, thats what defines how good or bad your game looks.
(make a copy of your conf.ini first, just in case your game gets even uglier...)
then run setup.exe (in the game main folder), and on the first page, make sure, you have set the "provider" setting to "OpenGL".
close that, and copy santo's settings for OpenGL to your conf.ini



you may not KNOW very much about computers, but you can read and grab some info off the net.
and that is all you really need. patience, reading and finding the answers.

i upgraded to version 11.11c and restarted, but clouds still look just as bad. im going to try hundertzehngustav's conf.ini method

it dont work. my game spazzes, i get weird random giant black cubes in the sky and a strange, pyramid shaped object in my cockpit that blocks my view.

okay. now dont panic.
seems the settings were a "bit" high for your card.
Its a laptop afterall.

put your backup conf ini in (or take the code from the earlier post in this topic)
run the game.


exit.
start up your setup.exe (main game folder)

Driver tab:
openGL.
-full screen
-choose your resolution.
-use stencil buffer.

Video Tab:
-custom settings
-texture mipmap trilinear
-texture compression none (or, if you get that damn paratrooper error, set to "s3tc")
3x checks for dither, vertex arrays, poly stripple
--> extensions: all check

save, and run again.

this will become a trial and error game...
me no like.

edit:
game runs... and is just as ugly as before?

That settings were from my laptop too with an ATI Radeon HD4200, so yours are better than mine.
Maybe there is something wrong in your installation or in your conf.ini.
