IK-3
« on: January 21, 2012, 02:37:00 PM »

Here is a basic template for the IK-3. It has markings for Yugoslavia, Germany and Croatia ... the last two maybe fictional but probable. There are no camo schemes yet in this version. And there is also an oddity in that with a stationary skin the nose can be skinned in a different color, but in flight the color reverts back to the main top color. In this template the main color is dark green which entirely a random choice. Templates are made to make color changes easy.

The template was made from the void provided with 4.11. But without any references for wing build, I followed the pattern of lines and riveting for the wings as inspired by that of the MS 406 ... also after being shown the error of my ways, the template has now been updated with a wooden wings option for lines, rivets, shadows etc ...

Template updated with camo scheme and tail colors for Yugoslavia corrected ...

Nice job, here's my old IK-3 No.2 skin re-done with help from your template:

Looks real good!

Just one thing - you need to reverse the colors of the Yugoslav tricolore on the fin  ;)

Oh for goodness sakes ... not noticing a thing like that ... typical of me I suppose. Thanks for the heads-up ...will correct and make new link.

Very nice template, but there's an error:

IK-3 wings were skinned with wood, so no panels should be visible...

I could have used this blueprint when making the template, but just couldn't find any ... thanks for providing a set.

But no matter. The great thing about templates is how easily they can be adapted. Here is an updated template with the wooden wing versions for lines and rivets and shadows and things like that there ..

So link to template updated (again) ...

All of them? I'm guessing then that was not a mass produced plane by any definition of the word then ... somehow I think the IK-2 might have been a more colorful choice to have made for a new plane in 4.11 ...

Only one prototype and 12 serial examples were produced. They had the same cammo (overall gray or gray with upper three-color cammo) as IK-2s during RYAF service (apart silver prewar and IK-2s with simple green uppersurfaces, used by the Croat airforce...)
