I have a similar problem to one of the posters on the first page, and so does a friend using same AAA 1.2 mod, but with one key variation.

Making you can actually have buttons in both places

To be precise, in

IL2/FILES/GUI/GAME

and/or in

IL2/MODS/STD/GUI/GAME

Neither of us actually have a GUI folder in the IL2/MODS/STD path, only com and i8n folders. Do we just add this manually or what? We both have mods from different sites that have worked ok for ages, but new planes now CTD the game.

if you want to continue to use AAA1.2 (what I wouldn't recommend as it is becoming obsolete and you do it at your own risk of further troubles ahead) you must be sure that you download only mods for 409 or 409 compatible then you have to be sure that you download the latest version of 409 buttons and it doesn't make any difference if you have it in the  IL2/FILES/GUI/GAME  or in the IL2/MODS/STD/GUI/GAME. It is not useful to keep two different versions of  the buttons in the two location as the game will load only one buttons at the time giving priority to the one in the MODS folder. Finally we are not giving technical support to AAA 1.2 any longer (as it is obsolete) so for technical question regarding that pack it would be better to refer to other sites. ;)

Thanks for the quick reply. What would you say was the easiest up to date version to use now? I did try UltraMod a while ago but it wouldnt run at all for me so I just carried on using what already worked - probably lazy I know, but I am not too good on technical stuff sometimes.

Sheeeesh this is way way vast. In all honesty I'm lucky I even got my game to work lol. All I remeber is that I downloaded this huge plane pack you guys had which included the skyraider (yum), and went from there. Got the buttons i needed and all the different mods i wanted which was a ton. heh. I'm feeling that someone here is going to stop me from speaking because I thought this all works with UP but not sure if I'm wrong or right. I saw nothing remotely saying anything about UP, but 409 and 410 yes. My buttons folder I downloaded in January has 1 file each for off and online. I hear a seriously reinstall calling my name.  :'(  . Like I said, I took a chance to get this stufff to work and luckily it did. As for planes associated with the buttons, I have only downloaded planes from this website so I'm assuming I'm at least ok there. I just need clarification is all. Sure wish there was a telephone help desk center for you guys lol.  ;D

I would say Ultra 2.01 it has plenty of mods and is packed in sfs format so game loads very quickly. but if you are patient you can wait for the new version of the pack that will install over 4.101.  The recent version of up are exe files that install over a vanilla version of il-2 and you also have an online upgrade facility so it is pretty easy to handle https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,2652.0.html

Ok thanks for that. I have spoken to my friend, and he has apparently loaded the UP 2.01 version before, but never found a MODS folder to put all the newer planes in as they are released which put him off using it. I have got it loaded now, and at a quick look it does seem correct what he said, so is there a way to add a mods folder to this version?

tell your friend he is a douchbag, and next time, isntead of wallowing in self pity, pop over SAS, the best IL2 site in the world, and check around or ask someone who does not look hungry.

I have been overlooked in my questions.  :( CirX would you please read my replies on this page. I have serious issues and questions regarding the buttons and all. I have said before that I do not have the new buttons because I tried to install and the game crashed. I would seriously like to know if the new buttons are in conflict with this: http://ultrapack.tuttovola.org/index.php/topic,3062.msg28246.html#msg28246 which is the UP beta package. I had to resort to an old set of buttons. I have been flying just fine offline and I have tons of mods that i have used from this website only. If there isn't a file or log that I can see which has all "current" planes to date, that are used with the new buttons, then I may be looking for a needle in a haystack. If you can send me or post the latest ini then I can check myself. I don't mean to bother anyone but i just want to fly like the next guy and have fun. I am the 475th's goto guy for all this stuff so I need to know what problems may have occurred. I am computer savvy so feel free to just tell me what I may need to look into. Thanks much.

You mean the "Package additions to the UP 2.01 " by PabloSniper that realy has nothing to do with UP at all. The same guy who said this about SAS:

Well, lets goto this thread again https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,13894.0.html

I asked:

Quote
-What version of the game you are playing, 4.09 or 4.10? (Le0ne, obviously you are on 4.10 from your post)
-What version of buttons 8.1 did you put in your game, the 4.09, or the 4.10 versions? (4 folders inside the button download, named "409_SAS_Offline_Buttons", "410_SAS_Offline_Buttons", ect, the version is 409 or 410)

So you answered much later, that you are playing strickly UP2.01. That means you are on 4.09

but in the previous thread you posted on the subject, you wrote:

Quote
Ok I have downloaded the new buttons or latest ones just to be up to date (obviously didn't need them). I had 4 folders. SAS Offline, Online etc). Now the buttons I had before these were obtained when the P-51A came out so I'm not sure what buttons were out then. Anyways, I thought I'd be good today but unfortunately not. The game crashed at 50 and I looked all over for answers. I thought the P-51A was the guilty culprit so I but a hash mark in front of it in my air.ini . Still didn't work but I read something about a guy having to remove all the B-25s or maybe certain ones and then it worked for him. Needless to say, I said the hell with it and installed my old ones and everything is back to normal. If anyone has any clues or ideas, please share. Thanks and S!

And I answered there that I was answering the thread in https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,13894.0.html

You stated that your problem was a 50% crash, which is realy a fast 60% crash. But now, you say in the other thread, the problem is actualy

Quote
When I tried changing to the new buttons, my single player went apeS#@%& on me and sputters whenever I click it.

so which is it? Did you now put in new buttons and got the game started? Confused I am.

So I go back to the post initialy in this thread that you say I overlooked:

Quote

I dont see you mentioning any problem here...am I missing it? There is no reported crash or mention of any symptoms or any description of any crash or issue...

So, realy, what sort of answer can I give? Until you ask a question and give full information on your install, all I can do is try to fish out some questions from all your previous posts and try to answer them.

Quote
I have said before that I do not have the new buttons because I tried to install and the game crashed.

once more: are you sure that when you installed a new buttons, it was for version 4.09 of the game?

Quote
I think 8.1 is either very buggy or some planes modders made and tested never made it into the new buttons

Yes, that how I have my laughs.

Quote
I understand the frustration. I just added the 8.1 buttons and everything went to hell. haven't tested it yet but I'm pretty sure it's the P51-A because I haven't seen that in anyone's list for air.ini so at this point,

Wasnt that a DiFFFM mod? Do you have the correct DiFFFM mod installed for your version?

if not, try the 60% troubleshooter https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,22.0.html

Quote
Now I could be a complete idiot but I really doubt buttons came with UP2.01.
You sure? Have you checked in …\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\Files\GUI\GAME\buttons
(I copy the path from the 60% troubleshooter)
Naughtily it may be hiding there, but would probably have popped out in a search. Unless I misunderstand you, and you are installing new buttons into there already. Thats OK, as long as you have no other buttons files lurking around. 60% troubleshooter would have walked you through that.

And of course assuming you did not install a 4.10 buttons file instead of a 4.09 one.

Quote
When I tried changing to the new buttons, my single player went apeS#@%& on me and sputters whenever I click it.
probably nothing to do with buttons. If you had a buttons problem, your game would either crash on startup, or a plane will explode as soon as you start a mission, or you would be missing engine sounds on some planes.

Quote
I would have trouble shot this but i left everything as is until I know for sure.

Well, now would be a good time I think. Or anytime before posting a problem in general.

Quote
All I remeber is that I downloaded this huge plane pack you guys had which included the skyraider
what pack is that? Is there a link to a thread where someone who wants to help can go to see?

So, I would suggest downloading the latest buttons (8.3) and make sure you install the 409 version for ONLINE use (since you say you are in a squad, I assume you play online). Install it correctly after using 7zip to extract the download, in the correct folder in MODS, as stated in the Buttons download thread. And then, if you have issues, follow all the tutorials and troubleshooters you can find. Which you should all know by heart, since you are your squad's techie.

After that, if you still have issues, open a thread in tech help, and give all information about your install you can, and detailed explanations of the issue, as well as detailed descriptions of all the steps you tried to solve it, and the results.

Finally:

hahahah Cirx, I can see where you guys get frustrated. Didn't mean to rattle anyone's feathers. Yeah I had a lot of stuff going everywhere and not pinpointing the issue. Just disregard most of it because I was probably thinking out-loud. Hell I'm a network tech trying to keep system routers and hubs running. I think all day. hehe. Cut me some slack haha. But yeah tremendous help on your part and I thank you. It must be that I had some other buttons lurking in the shadows. I will look into that.I think the problem here is that I took an old post, revamped it, and then brought new stuff to add to it and that caused all this chaos. Hell I'm an ex tanker. Armor guys cause tons of chaos, hehe. Damn what a shame about pablo. Maybe he felt unloved and unwanted. People can flip out at a moments notice. At any rate, I do plan to hopefully one day contribute to this site like make some skins, mods, etc. I'm still learning.  ;D One thing I will say and this has nothing to do with this. Why in God's name isn't there a damn p-51B or C skin of the 332nd pursuit squadron? That's just unacceptable. The Tuskegee Airmen deserve to be acknowledged. Once again thanks for your kind help sir, God bless and stay cool bro. Chaney...out!
