Complete Ship List for Object Viewer
« on: December 08, 2011, 06:57:04 AM »

I am compiling a complete list of ships, including all mods, in order to get them to appear in the Object Viewer.   So far I have got this far. Some are still missing.
They need to be sorted by country and include the file path to the hier.him.
If anyone wants to help please post any lines of text for ships I have missed and I will add them in.
Hidden comments can be added using the # symbol.
When used in your game if you do not have all the ships installed it does not cause a crash. You just get a blank page in the Object Viewer. The ship entry can be hidden by using #, as I have done for some of the British entries.

The order of the list is the order in which they will appear in the Object Viewer list. Capital ships are at the top of each countries list. The text on the left will (initially) be what appears in the drop down list. It must have no spaces and not exceed 18 characters. (preferably much less)

Ashe

The draft ship.ini file has been updated 12-12-11.
This should be pasted into Mods/STD/i18n  --- backup any existing file.

Hey Gang,
I have a thought for consideration. Because the span of Il2 is now so broad, and since several nations tend to re-use ship names, I wonder whether it might be worthwhile to establisha ship-naming convention by adding a year to each shipname/shipclass to signify when this vessel was launched, as an aid to mission and campaign builders. It would require also some identification as to whether the ship is historical, or a what if - perhaps a siingle "F" following the year of launch to indicate fantasy, or what if.
Such as USS Yorktown, which could be :
a. USS Yorktown 1937 OR USS Yorktown CV-5  OR USS Yorktown 1937 CV-5
AND
b. USS Yorktown 1943 OR USS Yorktown CV-10  OR
USS Yorktown 1943 CV-10

What do you think?

What about civilian shipping? There are many cargo and tanker and hospital ships already in DBW, as well as a whole bunch of landing craft, and damaged ships. And there were a number of modded ships with sails and paddle wheels that I never managed to install correctly.

Battleships and carriers are impressive as can be, but that is not all there is when it comes to naval units. Merchant Marine and civilian shipping are just as useful and fun for missions than all the high powered stuff.

Take a look here. It is the newest and most compact install for playing Il-2 off-line
