Sound and Effects compilations
« on: September 12, 2011, 09:33:08 PM »

EDIT: 01/01/12
Happy new year all!

Thanks to the herculean efforts of the mod community here (particularly Sanka and co for re-creating Plutonium for 4.101) my previous mod compilations are obsolete!
So I put some new stuff together. I have not found any conflicts in these packs, as all the classfiles are happily 4.101 compliant now. Of course if you have a conflict let me know and we'll work to sort it out.

First the additional effects I use with Plutonium 4.10.1
With this download you will get a file named "Plutonium effects-Additions (01-01-12)" All you have to do is make sure it loads BEFORE Plutonium effects, which of course should already be in your mod folder.
Simple as that.

This one is my baby. Its always changing so what it is today will probably be reworked tomorrow!
My sound compilation with the same modders sounds as before, but with further editing on my part. In particular I tried to give each of the major weapons the correct rate of fire, as some of the sounds did not match up with the historical numbers. I also tweaked the sounds of most of the major engines in game according to things like horsepower, compression ratio, and displacement to give them each a (subtly) different volume. Merlins are very quiet, R-2800's aren't lol!
Somehow in this pack I managed to change something that to me has gone a long way toward curtailing the sonar effect we get in game. For me the only time I can hear an enemy aircraft is when I'm very, very close or looking right at it. Aircraft in my formation are there only as a low rumble depending on the type.
In the pursuit of realism you may find that the cockpit engine noise is quite loud, to the point that it drowns out most other sounds. You will also find that weapons fire is much, much quieter now. Small caliber weapons like MG17's will be very quiet from the seat of your 109, and whats more the Browning .303's shooting towards you from that Hurricane on your 6 will be totally inaudible at all but the closest range. The sounds are there, I assure you, but there are bigger things in your world drowning them out (like the DB600 sitting in your lap!)

These edits are a ham-fisted attempt by me to improve upon the already wonderful work of Jaffa, Jiver67, FLy! and others. My thanks to them!
These sounds have been assembled by a habitual 109 driver that is not in the least interested in the Pacific war, Japanese or Russian aircraft. Hence there have been very few changes that will effect them here. If you have a suggestion for them please by all means post it. Id love to make this more complete but simply cannot of my own accord summon enough interest to work on these aircraft! If you've got a bright Idea though I will be happy to include it for the greater good...even those seedy types that like naval aviation  ::)

This contains the work of many talented sound modders, and in my opinion gives an outstanding
representation of true to life weapon sounds. But truley the excellence of these mods speak for
themselvs. Thanks go to the creators.

For your sounds, I do have a question... Do you have the summer airfield sounds (dog, bird, tractor ect.) and do you have the mustang sounds correct? (P-51 start up whine and the loud woosh from a mustang passing overhead)

For the Ambiance sounds yes, I'm fairly certain that the barking dogs are there.
As to the mustang, if your talking about this: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,9946.0.html
Then no.

Well, I see the downloads are going well, post up any issues.
EDIT: Found an issue myself. The sound matrix does seem to differ slightly between UP3 and DBW. Some sounds work in UP3 but not in DBW. Where this happens you will get the stock sound rather than the mod sound.

Hi CWMV
I had your prior effects compilation working fine with DBW and with some mods( especialy Big Clouds mod wich creates wonderful and fps friendly clouds).
I downloaded your new online and offline compilation and both of them caused the game not to launch
Im playing DBW 1.6 with the last sas modactivator
Ill check if there is a class conflict betwen your compilation and the Big clouds version 2.1a
Thanks a lot

Your English is fine!
And yes, that is an issue. It seems to be a conflict with one of the Plutonium effects classfiles.
That's why I posted up the non classfile "Plan B" version. I ran this and had no issues while destroying a train with RS-82's.
https://www.mediafire.com/?5zdty2j21n9p7i8

Of course if you wanted to be a real mench you could do some trouble shooting and post up which classfile it is that causes the issue. I may do it later, time permitting. As this is one of the only trouble reports Ive received Ill try to make time for it.
but until then the above neutered version will work for you.

Hmmm, got me. Ive been using the classfile version in DBW (currently 1.6) since DBW came into being. I just ran it and no issues so I'm guessing that your right, there's a mod conflict somewhere.
Please let us know what you find.
Do you have the same conflict with the non-classfile version?

Hi CWMV
Im having the same problem with the non-class file version
I think its a conflict between your compilation and the " Big Clouds Mods version 2.1a"
Ill try to disect this problem tomorrow and i will let you know my conclusions
All the best

Hi CWMV
I dont know why but evrything is running fine both on and off line versions together with the excellent Big Clouds Mod v. 2.1a
I have to say that Im very Thankful to you for bringing this compilation for us
The sound compilation still have some issues with DBW 1.6, The canon and the MG of the Bf 109 sometimes loose their sounds, and the engines sound volume is to high comparing to other sounds ( voices , wind, etc...) .
Thanks a lot
Best regards

Wow thats weird, it started working just all of a sudden? Lol!
As far as engine volume I haven't changed any of those, what specifically are you referring to?
And the 109 guns...ya, I haven't figured that one out yet...I haven't found any one thing that is consistent with their loss, no single map, plane, mission etc. I may try lengthening the sound samples, cause the only thing I did was chop them up.
If you could make note of the game conditions when it vanished for you and post it here it would be helpful.
