Go-229 A2 - 3x1000 reloaded *update 4.10*
« on: October 31, 2009, 01:51:17 AM »

thanks to the incredible EnsignRo (now known as sani) we now have a Go-229A2 with 4x250kg bombs or X4 rockets as loadout. Better engines make it a real 1946 3x1000 project (1000 kg bombs over a 1000 km at 1000 km/h was the spec by RLM)

I have repacked the contents of several iterations from EnsignRo and post it here:

http://www.filefront.com/14831669/229A2.rar

it brings it's own flightmodel so no new buttons needed.

i hope this is cool with you EnsignRo, if not please remove.

Edit by Sani

Here is an updated FM.I want to keep it close to historical speeds so thrust is 975.I just did a test and climbed all the way up to 14000+m (zoom climbed to 16000,but you can't stay there),average climb rate was 10-13m/s.Above 10000m use zoom climbs.
Early jets didn't have good acceleration,so don't expect some stellar performance. It is big and heavy (almost 9000kg take off weight).Top speeds are hard to reach, but you can,for example, cruise at 13000+m doing 900km/h true.

Inside MODS\Go-229A2 should be a file called Horten-229.Overwrite it with this.

Here is finally the version for 4.10 / UP3 / DBW:
http://www.gamefront.com/files/20564440/plane_Go-229A2-V410.zip  *v4 AI can shoot X4 now*
alternate link: https://www.mediafire.com/?124fsa1kxd4vdem

This Version comes with the hardcore-FM upon request!

Due to my personal preference this version points to the original G0_229 cockpit

As loadouts you will have
MK-103 (default)
MK-108
MG-213/20
MK-213/30
4xSC250
2xSC500
2xX4 (regular and homing)
4xX4 (regular and homing)

Attention: for the homing X4 you will need any of Twisters original mods installed though since they bring the files nescessary for the weapon!

.... for example

thanks to Storebror for the x4 AI code!

As many have troube taking of or landing properly with this wheel configuration, here is my procedure as a starting point:
take off:

NO flaps! (they only raise the ass, which will end up you balancing on the nosewheel....)
trimm full up to force the ass down
pull stick to 70, 80% back
-> now start rolling
at about 135 - 145 km/h the plane like to lift it's ass, now pull the stick back SOFTLY, just enough to also lift the nosewheel.
-> airborne! now you want to lift a few meters and then very soon trim back to neutral. adjust trim nose down as speed increases.

landing:
give flaps to combat to bleed off speed, at about 300km/h also give flaps to start, trimm full up (ass down)
aproach at about 200, 250km/h at a VERY flat angle
cross the airfield boundary at about 180 km/h, pull in the flaps to kill ground effect lift.
pull nose up gently
touch down at around 150 km/h

Guys........ as far as I can ascertain, the 'larger nose-wheel' and the heavier strut and the more powerful hydraulics to actuate it were a result of the 'production' configuration of the aircraft.

The production aircraft ( HO IX V6 (Horten), 8-229 (RLM), Go-229-A-0 (Gotha)) had all of the cockpit armor, armored glass, ejection seat, and armament. Which the 'earlier' versions did not. And so since there was not as much weight a less robust assemble was okay. However, once the aircraft had all of the production items added, the weight increased dramatically. So, the larger wheel / tire and heavier strut were necessary.

The angle of 'incidence', as a result of the longer componets, was kept so that take off 'was possible with no or little rotation'. So, the less robust assembly is okay, so long as the ac has no armament and no external stores and doesn't have the 'armored tub' (some 400Kg of plating), or ejection seat of the production version!

The intended production version of this ac, Gotha Go-229-A-0, was to be configured, when required, with two ETC 503 Winkingerschiff external pylons. Each capable of holding either up to a 500Kg bomb or a 'drop-tank'. Another source of weight on the 'nose-wheel'............ the 'armored ammunition boxes'.

There's more to the story..... hope this helps clear some things up.

It should be something like this:

######################################################################
# Go-229A-2
#####################################################################
Go-229A-2.2xMk103                      Default
Go-229A-2.4xSC250                      4 x SC250kg
Go-229A-2.4xAB250                      4 x AB250kg
Go-229A-2.2xSC500                      2 x SC500kg
Go-229A-2.4xX4                           4 x X4 rockets
Go-229A-2.none                           Empty

Same post, as for Go-229NJ...
Hi folks, just a little bug spotted about AI Behaviour for this plane.
It acts like a fighter ONLY when you give a direct attack order. If you fly against it in QMB, or if you don't give a direct attack order, this plane will fly peacefully straight ignoring enemy planes (bombers and fighters) and waiting for the destruction (not even taking evasive action, just small turns).
This bugs only afflicts the Go-229 NJ and the Go-229A2 bomber (and, I remember, also some stock Me-262, I will check better). Everything seems ok on the default Go-229.
Hope this will be fixed.

oh.. it seems I missed out on you dropping the MK-108??

why that?

When you get to ridicoulusly high speeds,it's pretty hard to hit something with a 108 unless it's right in front of your face.I think that 103 is better choice because you can aim and hit something from 1000-1200m away. And they are a bit more powerful than 108 ;)
