Here is the beta version of my first map, Western Carolines. In case you don't know where this area is, it is between Guam and the Palaus:

The map area:

A view of Yap Town burning:

Malone, please move it to 4.10. The objects i used for the map were from 4.09 and from Boomer's object mod pack for 4.10, so I assume this map is only compatible with 4.10. I did not test it in 4.09.

Also, if anyone wants some historical photos from the area, here they are:

Interesting map choice, since it was the major forward U.S. naval base during the last year of the Pacific war. Good for "what if" scenarios, as well as historical nightfighter and CAP flights to by the USN to protect the anchorage against recce and harassment bombers.

Sadly for campaign builders, the Japanese evacuated Ulithi before the Americans invaded and the only major Japanese attack against Ulithi was Operation Tan No. 2. It was a colossal failure:

An interesting hypothetical mission would be if Operation Tan had succeeded. Substitute G4M Betties for the P1Y Frances, put some F6F-N nightfighters in the air and you've got a hectic night fighter/night bomber mission!

Yes, I realized that before I made the map. Since it was my first time, I wanted to keep the area and islands fairly small. USAF did bomb Yap and Woleai quite a bit, but the B-24s that did it were based very far away outside my map area. The USN carrier task forces did also hit Yap and Woleai too during the summer of 1944. This map had special meaning to me too because my grandpa's ship USS Rall DE-304 was credited with sinking a midget sub in the lagoon immediately after USS Mississinewa AO-59 was hit on Nov. 20 1944. My grandpa was the Exec at the time of the sinking.

Very nice map indeed and quite a pleasant suprise. Thank you very much. One interesting thing: I can save missions on the "late 44" map but not the "mid 44". Go figure. Anyone else have this problem?

What version of the game are you running? I have only tested both maps on 4.10. I had the 4.10 object pack from Boomer installed when I made the map.

4.10 Object pack:
