it will make life easier since all you will need will be UP3 then.
now the installation of TKM can be a bit tricky for the unexperienced. i am happy they got to integrate the TKM into UP3

Akamatsu Sadaaki!
very brave pilot, almost suicidal..alcoholic and violent
29 may 1945,he attacked alone 75 mustangs!!(situation confirmed by american pilots)
and managed to shot down slt Rufus Moore of the 45FS.
an american pilot, witness of the fight, said that if Sadaaki has been american,he would get the medal of honor for his action...
he s considered to be the best raiden pilot.
knowing the weaknesses of his enemies,he forced them to combat at low altitude.he piloted zeroes until the raiden came into frontline combat
a guy with guts...

it's almost there but i will release it not until DBW/UP3 has developed further to a "finished" status.

Effects and especially AI behaviour lack at the moment to test anything. also the Map situation need some waiting still.

Akamatsu Sadaaki!

you will read a *lot* about that during the campaign;) ... actually you forgot that he was a major skirt chaser!

29 may 1945,he attacked alone 75 mustangs!!(situation confirmed by american pilots)

actually this was allways the account that fascinated me the most about him and that was also the idea behind the name of the campaign - Ikkitousen.

BUT... I researched especially this day as thorough as I could and found some truth that is often left out.
He was NOT alone in the air against the americans that day. Yet he operated alone. Nobody could (or wanted) to follow him at that stage anymore he was so surpreme in comparison to his comrades at that date that what sounds absolutely suicidal, like attacking swarms of Mustangs in a Zero 52 to him was possible, even with success!
just thinking about it gives me goosebumps. I tried to give the player a chance... not very easy in Il2!

these are original quotes relating to that day:

506th FG
VLR Mission 14 (FC Mission #163) 29 May 1945
Force:. 101 P-51s of 15th and 21st Groups
Mission: Fighter Escort of XXI Bomcom mission 1 against Yokohama

Five hundred miles from base, just 100 miles short of Honshu, 20,000 feet over Hachijo Jima, 101 Mustangs rendezvoused with 454 Superforts and the great fleet proceeded toward Yokohama. From the IP to the target Japanese fighters lanced their way through the bomber stream displaying aggressive tactics not witnessed since early April.
US Claims: 26 destroyed, 9 probable's and 23'.damaged in air. losses: 3 P-51 lost 2 pilots missing.

Captain Todd Moore observed a lone Zero on the tail of a P-51 amid the 45th Squadron. To distant to intervene, he watched as Akamatsu shot down Rufus Moore and sped on with seeming impunity through the escort.
Captain Todd Moore, 45th Squadron
-“If he had been an American he would have been awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.”
Second Lieutenant Jack Wilson, 531st Squadron
-"He made us look like a bunch of truck drivers."

the fact that he was not "alone" does not take away from the astonishing abilities and gut of this 35 year old fighter pilot.
in fact, the claims list of that day even proves how surpreme he must have been.

a guy with guts...

yes

Interesting campaign, thanks for making it-

I've only gone up to mission 5, but neither I nor the AI aircraft could take off from the carrier in missions 3 and 4.

I have retested and can see it also!

it is the DBW AI Mod! It affacts carrier take-offs badly it seems.
deactivate it and all will work!

EDIT: there soon will be be an update of AI Mod
The problem is, the planes spawn with virtual wings folded... if a plane has no real wings fold.... well, you can guess what happens.

Hi Vampire_Pilot,

I deactivated the DBW AI Mod, but the problem persists. I even made some test missions with different variants of the Zero, but they all crash upon take-off, regardless of whether the AI , or the player is at the controls. It seems to me that, just like you wrote, the aircraft spawn with their wings folded, even though in-game their wings appear to be down. For example, in one of my take-off attempts in a late-model Zero, I whipped past the carrier's island so close that I should have clipped off my left wing, but nothing happened, the wing just sliced through the island as if it wasn't even there. However, after passing the lip of the flight deck, I went for a bath again, of course. Could it be that this problem is related to catapult mods? I haven't played carrier missions for so long, that I don't really know when this problem started, after installing UP 3.0 RC3, or DBW, or earlier.
I searched the threads here and found that others had similar problems a while back, but I couldn't see whether they were able to resolve these issues.

Going by the first four missions, this is really a very nice campaign, so any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

FW

P. S. I switched the Japanese carrier for the Saratoga, but the results are the same, A5s, Zeros and Sea Gladiators all plunge into the ocean after leaving the carrier, while Wildcats, Hellcats, Seafires and Corsairs all take off normally.

Hi Vampire_Pilot,

The problem seems to have been solved for now. On the first try, I only deactivated the "DBW AI MOD" through JGSME and the proplem persisted. Then, I realized that there is also a folder named "VTD AI MOD BETA" in the DBW folder. I disabled that mod as well, and now Japanese planes, both AI and player-controlled, are able to take off normally from carriers.

Now I can get back to enjoying the rest of this nice campaign.  :)

That is not the best idea, since this is the folder that is created by the JSGME when you activate the AI Mod there!
You obviously made some mistake along the line if you removed it in JSGME and still have it in #DBW.

Actually, with DBW 1.3 AI MOD this issue is solved!!!!
