You should try these skin related mods:

Quote
Skinmod folders: http://www.vpmedia.eu/il2/zip/vp_skinmod_v2.7z
You dont have to create the folders manually.

FBDSM skinmod: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,21514.msg245812.html#msg245812
Tons of improved default skins in sfs format.

I want to change the default winter skin for the Bf-109G4, but there is no winter folder and when I created it, the default skin didn't show up. Why is that?

can you provide more specific details, Einfeld?
it should be a simple case of having the 4 tga/b files in a 'winter' folder, alongside the 'summer' folder, and of course, you need to choose a winter map for the mission.
that should be it. perhaps you tga/b files are not in the correct format?

The location of those files must be:

#DBW\SKINMOD\3do\Plane\Bf-109G-4\winter\skin1o.tga
#DBW\SKINMOD\3do\Plane\Bf-109G-4\winter\skin1o.tgb
#DBW\SKINMOD\3do\Plane\Bf-109G-4\winter\skin1p.tga
#DBW\SKINMOD\3do\Plane\Bf-109G-4\winter\skin1q.tga

if you view any skin in QMB/Arming screen your default skin files will be generated into Paintschemes\Cache folder.

vpmedia, there is no winter folder for Bf-109G-4. When I created one, I put the new default skins inside and ran QMB. I still had the old one.

when you look at the 109 in QMB wich mission with wich map have you loaded?
It must be a mission where the map is a winter map.

Then, either

1) it is *not* the correct folder structure (in spite what you say)
2) you are choosing wrong plane slot to test
3) you are choosing wrong map to test
4) you have a russian plane mod somewhere above in your #DBW which contains default skins overruling yours.
5) your QMB viewer has a custom skin loaded and you forgot to set it back to "default"

IMF viewer?  https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,1110.0.html

Ok for example Yak-3 skin folder structure: #DBW\!yak-3_skin\3do\plane\Yak-3(Multi1)\summer\skin1o.tga etc.

I have working new default skins with same folder structure so it is not the problem

I extracted the skins from fb_3do01.sfs (v 4.11) and the IMF viewer shows the skins as old not the ones I have ingame in v4.11 so where are those new default skins stored?

#DBW\  !  yak-3_skin\3do\plane\Yak-3(Multi1)\summer\skin1o.tga etc.

Is this a typo?  Because if not...  :-X

Anyway: More clues for you to assess the situation, if the problem are defective tga textures that fail to load, then you should see an entirely PINK aircraft (which is what happens when texture fails to load). If you do not see that, then the texture you extracted are fine.

I extracted the skins from fb_3do01.sfs (v 4.11) and the IMF viewer shows the skins as old not the ones I have ingame in v4.11 so where are those new default skins stored?

Do you see the sequence fb_3do01.sfs, fb_3do02.sfs etc? The lower the number the OLDER the file, so in particular fb_3do01.sfs is UNCHANGED from the very early il2 days. Of course you see an old skin ;)

You have to check the SFS files that are added by the 411 patch, which must be the ones at the end of the numerical sequence as they were added later.

The SFS files add-up in a pile where new versions of same file overrule older versions (which includes default skins when changed/updated in latest SFS files)
