20s, 30s, 50s Gun Sounds
« on: September 30, 2009, 01:46:16 PM »

This is a gun sound mod for the US 30 & 50cals, British 303s, US & British 20mm, and early Japanese & German 20mm. I know there are a lot of gun sound mods out there but this is unique in that it uses separate stereo channels and recordings to simulate a multiple gun sound.

To install just add the folder to your Mods folder.

You may have to adjust the spl levels in each preset file to balance them with your system.

Also, you may have to download and run the SAS WeaponsClasses mod to get this to work for your version.

New 50cals. This is the latest version from my never ending quest for the perfect 50cal sound. This version adds more BOOM. These are big guns and should sound like it.

Really good sounds, thank you but I have question:I can hear gunfire other Spitfires inside my cockpit miles away from dogfight,it seems a little unlikely to me (If I´m wrong , please correct me).
I don´t use any other soundmod , so there isn´t any conflict. How can I trim it?

If it's the Spitfire 20mm cannons you hear, try changing the [spl] value from 115 to 105 in the weapon.MGunHispanoMkIs.prs preset file.

If it's the Spitfire .303 machineguns you hear, try changing the [spl] value from 105 to 100 in the weapon.mgun_07_900.prs and/or weapon.MGunBrowning303s.prs (depending on which mod installation you are using) preset files.

Preset file [spl] values will have to be adjusted to balance the gun sounds with engine and other ambient sounds because different mod installations use different spl levels to balance sounds. All of my engine spl levels are set for 100 and I use that as a base line to adjust everything else.

Also, take a look at your  conf.ini file and see what you have your [sound] Attenuation=  level set to. I keep mine set to 4. This value controls how loud noises outside the cockpit are heard. I think the range is 0 through 8 with 8 being the loudest. I may be wrong on the numbers but experiment and see if this helps.

Good luck.

Thank you gentlemen , in my conf.ini Attenuation=7,so I changed it to 4 and result is very good.
I know about spl but  becaue I´m not modder ,I thought that after lovering spl value even my guns will be more silent.

4ent, afaik the [spl] value doesn't actually affect the actual volume, but rather the distance at which the sound can be heard.... ;)

I just posted a revised version 3.4 for the .50cals in the first post of this thread.  Give them a try and let me know what you think.

I've posted a new 50cal version in the openning post of this thread. Just drop them in your 4.09 Mods folder and make sure they load before or "-" out any other 50cal sound mod.
