Title: " French Wings 1940 - 1945" - Modded Campaign
Post by: vtrelut on February 26, 2010, 06:44:42 AM
The new modded version of French Wings 1940 -1945 is now available right here:

http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads3&file=details&id=18 (http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads3&file=details&id=18)

It uses 6 modded maps, 37 new slot planes, and former AIs made flyable, offering a much more complete and immersing experience.

Flying in fighters or bombers, from the Battle of France through North Africa, either with the Free French or with the Vichy air force, until the last days before Victory, on the Western or Eastern fronts: Like no Other Pilot! :)

In 1940, against overwhelming odds:

Just in case you do not have the 2 Josse's mods which are required, i.e. the Curtiss H-75A-2 and Mohawk IV (download links in the read-me maybe obsolete), please go and take them there, on the C6 FTP:

ftp://checksix-fr.com/FB/Mods/Josse/

For the Curtiss H-75A-2, direct download here:

ftp://checksix-fr.com/FB/Mods/Josse/MOD-H75A2.rar

And for the Mohawk IV:

I have been looking forward to playing this mod fro two weeks now. i am still trying to get all of the pieces I need to play it effectively. I especially want to fly the Hawk 75 against some Wildcats. I'll let you know what I think about it when I get it running. One question though, is it absolutely necessary to have a modded version of the game or can I just manually load hte two flaybale conversions and be okay to play?
Title: Re: " French Wings 1940 - 1945" - Modded Campaign
Post by: vtrelut on July 05, 2010, 07:15:38 AM
Hello showboat1,

There are two versions of this campaigns pack, both of them included in the ultimate edition: for mods and without mods.

If you want to fly the Curtiss H-75 against the Wildcat, you need the modded version, and for that purpose you need a modded game. You do not need a mods pack though: a mod activator with the latest Buttons (as supplied by SAS), plus all the required individual mods listed in the dedicated read-me will do the job; you must read the read-me dedicated to the mods, and you must apply strictly all instructions.

In the modded version, missions involving the Hawk-75 and the Wildcat also involve the Swordfish and other new slot planes, so please make the effort to install all required plane mods. They involve modded maps as well, so please apply the instructions required for them to work.

SPECIAL VARIANT FOR FLYING THE Hawk-75A-3, AND MS 406 WITHOUT NEW SLOT PLANES INSTALLED: if you have a modded game just with the mods activator from SAS, you may try the unmodded version of my campaigns: in that case you may have the opportunity to fly the Hawk-75A-3 against the Wildcats without any mods installed, but at least the game itself must be modded with the mods activator. Please let me know how it works.

When you install the ultimate edition, use JSGME to enable the modded version OR the unmodded version of the campaigns.

Happy flying,

Vincent

Mission loaded crashed because of SeaHurricane 1
IM in the Africa phase of the campaign
I searched my air.ini and I only found this line"SeaHurricaneMkIb  air.SeaHurricaneMkIb 1                NOINFO  gb01  DESERT

The line "SeaHurricaneMkIb air.SEAHURRICANE1 1 NOINFO gb01 DESERT" which is in the intructions folder of the campaign is not in my air.ini.
Where can I find this version of the SeaHurricane
I'm running UP2.1 4.09m all updated and have the latest SAS Buttons

Thanks for your reply
I found a Topic in the AAS about this matters, and it looks that this is an old version of the plane made for being installed separately in the MODS folder
My version is already installed in the UP 2.1 and probably , with a different air ini line , in spite of being the same plane.
I tryed just to ad the line in my air ini but it caused a crash at 60%.
I think that the line of the plane has to be changed in the DGen folder , which is the one who create the missions, or the FM attached to this air ini line is missing, but I don't known how to do it.
Best regards
Gerson

Hello Guys,

My campaigns use this version of the Sea Hurricane because this is - was? - the only one that was available as a stand-alone version... on the AAA site! (see read-me for mods included in the download, with D/L link). Since AAA migrated to AAS... link is dead!

Please find this plane mod here, and then you will be OK.

Yes there should be no problem with later versions of the game, such as 4.101m, with latest mods activator. Just make sure that you air.ini file contains all required entries for modded planes, as listed in the read-me. If not, install the required plane mods manually and you'll be good to go. Happy flying! :)

Just install the Sea Hurri mod which I posted above in this topic: see link.

Of course you must edit your air.ini so that ALL required entries - and corresponding aircraft - are available.

Well it is not enough to edit the air.ini, you also need to install the mod, available here as mentioned above:

Also for my campaigns you can find them all at M4T, such as this one:

I did not make the mods, just the campaigns...

If you have a poblem with the Sea Hurris, I would expect this mod is not properly installed. If properly installed, you should be able to fly them in the QMB. Or there could be a compatibility issue with 4.101m, but that is unlikely.

Please try to locate a file DGenERROR.log at the root folder of the game, there could be an indication at the end of that file telling what happened on your particular campaign.

Sometimes, and this has nothing to do with DGen or any mission/campaign in particular, I noticed during testing that a mission fails to load in game. The only - and simple - solution I found was to wait and reload the mission... usually it works. ;)

Title: Re: " French Wings 1940 - 1945" - Modded Campaign
Post by: vtrelut on November 13, 2011, 12:41:42 PM
These campaigns can be played in DBW 1.6 in the standard, unmodded version: there should be no problem to play the basic version with DBW 1.6 (-FrenchWingsNoMods option in JSGME to be activated if you use the Ultimate Edition).

The modded version makes use of certain aircraft mods which are not included in UP 3.0 or DBW 1.6, and may not be compatible with 4.101. Map mods included should be OK.

I intend to update it once the new Dewoitine D-520 rolls out.

Sorry to bother everyone here. But I am new to the mods. I installed SAS mod activator a years ago, but I didn't install much things else beside the IL-2: 1956 pack. A few minutes earlier I downloaded and installed this Franch mod. (I just placed each folder to its respected folder in my game) and try to play it. When I try to load the "From battle of Franch to liberation of Franch", the first thing it happen is that I can not generate the first 3 campaign, probably due to I don't have Hawk-75, and the third campaign probably due to I don't have Libya map. Can anyone teach me how to propriately install this? Thank a lot.

Actually I also tried to edit the air.in with seahurrican as some of people have mentioned. But as soon as  I do that, the game will refuse to load at 70%

You don't miss any map mod, they are included in the campaigns pack. However, you should rename the folder "MODS" to "#SAS", as explained in the SAS mod activator read-me, because SAS mod activator no longer reads the contents of the Files and MODS folders we used before; also you should add the lines required in the all.ini, as explained in the read-me related to mods in my campaigns pack.

Regarding the Sea Hurricane mod, you should also install the mod itself; otherwise if you just edit your air.ini your game won't load.

My suggestion: first get familiar with mods and how they work, read carefully instructions in the various read-me files; in the meantime, please activate the option "-FrenchWingsNoMods" in JSGME, which is included in the Ultimate Edition of my campaigns, and you will be fine.

Happy flying! 8)

Thanks sir. But I did put it in the "#SAS" file. Also, it appears that it has a some conflict with the "Disastor on the frontier" mod too. Every since I install the "Franch mod", there will be no briefing nor debriefings in my "Disastor on the frontier" campaign. So I uninstalled it.

I'll give it other try, by the way sir, do you knew where I can get Hawk-75 for it?

The Curtiss H-75A-3 and A-4 are included in the stock game (not flyable). Flyable versions are available at least in mods packs.

And here specifically:

http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,1446.0.html

Please check this site for more details: http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/board,60.0.html

Regarding Josse's mods for Curtiss H-75A-2 and Mohawk IV, they are available here:

ftp://checksix-fr.com/FB/Mods/Josse/

I just tested the ftp and the link works.

There is no conflict between my campaigns and "Disaster on the frontier" by Amagi. Briefings and debriefings should appear normally. If they don't, it means you did not install something properly; did you really merge the DGen and PaintSchemes directories with existing ones? Please double check the read-me, it is detailed.

I really recommend you to play the unmodded version of my campaigns first, at least to make sure you installed the campaigns properly: see JSGME option to activate as described above.

Sorry, sir, I think I still missing the map. Because the only sub-campaign it wouldn't generate are the first 3, which are "the Phony War", "the Battle for Franch" and "Libya".

Could you tell me which file in the campaign pack is the map, please? Thanks a lot.
All I have are these:

--555_FrenchWingsv10.zip
    ----DGen
    ----JSGMEMODS
----Bataile de France & Vichy briefings en francais
----Battle of France & Vichy briefings in English
           ----french AI voices
           ----Normandie Niemen briefings en francais
           ----Normandie Niemen briefings in English
    ----PainSchemes
    ----DGen briefings en Francais.zip
    ----DGen.exe
    ----For add-on Ostfront in English.zip
    ----French Roundels.zip
    ----jsgme_setup.exe
    ----Lisez-Moi d'dbord French Wings 1940-1945.pdf
    ----Pour add-on Ostfront en frencais.zip
----Read me first - French Wings 1940-1945.pdf

So far what I did is copy the entire DGen folder into my DGen folder.

OK I see that you did not download the ultimate edition, but just the standard version ;), without mods, available here:
http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&file=details&id=3424

This is fine, and it should work flawlessly with your install 8). So there are no mods in the archive, and you are not missing any maps at all. For installation, you should just drop the DGen.exe and the 3 folders DGen, PaintSchemes and JSGMEMODS in your game ROOT folder, nothing in your DGen folder (check read-me again). Then the DGen folder of my campaigns should merge with the existing one (allow overwite when prompted), and not go inside the existing DGen folder.

Also when you are done with this and you confirm it works, you may try the modded version here:
http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads3&file=details&id=18

Thanks for the help sir, I did what you told me. But it appears that the first link you gave me is the one I downloaded earlier which only have about 75MB. So I tried the second link. It has over 200MB.

And this time it has:

FrenchWingsv10Mod.zip
----DGen
----JSGMEMODS
----MODS
    ----MAPMODS
        ----maps
----PaintSchemes

I have droped DGen, JSGMEMODS and PaintSchemes into my root folder. But it appears that the map is inside the "MODS" folder, what should I do with it? I don't know where should I put it. And right now, my problem remains.

Also you mentioned to drop the "DGen.exe" into my root folder. Since it is an exe file, should I double press it to install something? So far I don't want to touch that file untill I confirm it with you.

And there are some zip.file in this as well:
For add-on Ostfront in English.zip
French Roundels.zip
Pour add-on Ostfront en francais.zip

Should I do something about them?

Well, again, read and apply the instructions contained in the read-me. And please focus on the initial archive file you downloaded, with a size of 77.95MB, that is simple and fine at this stage, as I mentioned above. 8) ALL INSTRUCTIONS ARE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE READ-ME. Please read and apply carefully. ;)

Don't worry about the DGen.exe, just drop it in your game main folder, again as explained in the read-me and indicated above. :)

Please at this stage don't bother about the modded version and other optional sub-archives, you should first make sure that the standard campaigns' files are installed properly, exactly as per instructions in the read-me (first pages). It will work!

Since your game is modded already, after that I just recommend you install the flyable Curtiss H-75A-3 and A-4 from SAS from the link I also gave you (cockpit for Curtiss H-75). That will allow you to fly the Hawk 75, you should first test it in the QMB to confim.

Actually when you have a modded game, the option to use the P-36A-3 appears even in the standard version of my campaigns, and therefore it is better to have it made flyable in your game before. This is not a map issue.

The structure of this mod is quite conventional, although dating back to earlier mods packs and mod activators: it uses the folder MODS.

Since that folder is no longer in use with SAS Mod activator, you should just open the MODS folder from the download and drop its content (one folder) to the #SAS folder.

That's what I did. But when I choose Tu-2 in the quick mission, after loading, there's nothing. No plane, no cockpit no nothing. I only get a view in the middle of the air. This is the same with Pe-8.

Do you think it might have something to do with my game. Because it is a IL-2:1946, and I upgraded into the 4.101.

It's still the same, when I try to generate the sub-campaign, the computer only give me a "B" sound. And nothing happen. And this happens to half of the sub-campaign. I even reinstalled the whole game. I think maybe I really missing maps. I have found a map folder here:
IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\#SAS\MAPMODS\Maps
But its empty.

Sorry, but if you cannot fly the Curtiss H-75A-3 (P-36) in your modded game when you test it in QMB, it is normal that a sub-campaign in which you want to fly it does not work. It means something is wrong in your install. BTW, you must have a file named DGenERROR.log in your game, you may send it to me by PM.

I suggest you first make sure that in your modded 4.101m install, when you install a cockpit mod to make a certain plane flyable, then you can fly it.

More basically, you should make sure that the standard version of my campaigns work with flyable stock planes.

This does not have anything to do with maps; it is related to your installation, which can be corrected thanks to applying instructions in the read-me.

I can fly P-36 and that French aircraft M.S 406. Also I can fly everything in the IL-1956 file. Every other campaigns I install so far are flyable without problem such as "frontier", "winter war".
Also, regarding to the Tu-2 and Pe-8, I used the same way to install as I did with P-36, I just unzip each file in their respected destination.

For my campaigns, open the archive and unzip everything from the archive in the main folder of your game. For the Tu-2, open the archive, open the MODS folder from it, and unzip the content inside your #SAS folder.

However, there is still one issue though: it seems that somebody wield the gun in Tu-2, the one under the fuselage, I can't move it, I can only fire at my own compartment.  ???

Found new issue.....Sorry......it just every sub-campaign can be generated but the issue is after you press "fly" button. Sometimes after loading, I end up nothing but a view of the sky again, and sometime I beggin is the middle of the air with my engine off (realistic is on). I have no idea why. And sometimes everything are fine.
All 3 probability have about 33% chance to occur.

I have to manually re-edit every mission just switch them back to the plane they do have. Is this a bug?

The Lagg-3 is a fake Dewonite 520, there is no need to switch it back, the Lagg-3 also matches the Dewonite with its performance quite good.
Title: Re: " French Wings 1940 - 1945" - Modded Campaign
Post by: vtrelut on December 08, 2011, 11:22:42 AM
If you installed all the skins properly, they should automatically appear with French skins. The Lagg-3 is used as a D-520 fake, the La-5 as a MB-152 fake, and the Ju-87 as a Loire 401 fake.

For instance regarding the Loire 401:
http://www.avionslegendaires.net/loire-nieurport-ln-401-411.php

The read-me explains why fakes are sometimes used, and how to reduce the occurrence of seeing them: see page 3 and page 20.

Of course once the D-520 and the MB-152 types are released as mods, I could include them and avoid fakes for those.

Yes 100% 8) if you download the Ultimate Edition and choose the unmodded option with JSGME, or if you just install the unmodded version available here:

In case of the current modded version, I am not sure of the compatibility between required mods and the 4.101m or 4.11m modded game versions. I'll wait for the D-520 and other additions to the game to update. :-\

Hi, vtrelut. I kind of have a small favorite to ask. Please don't turn me down, please~~~~.
I have read the manual and know there is a way to limit the appearance of fake aircrafts. But it doesn't completely solve the problem. You see, firstly it only limited the chance of occurring, also I still have to pilot a fake one such as the LaGG-3. I tried to edit "planeFrC" file, but it did not work, because your campaign doesn't recognise any aircraft other than your original ones. So if I for example add another one like Hurricane Mk1, it will not generate a campaign for me.

But I really love your campaign, especially the one called "For the honor of France". Can you modify it into a real lift plane only campaign? Please~! I only need the one called "For the honor of France" to be this way. Please~!

Post by: vtrelut on December 11, 2012, 02:28:09 AM
Hello Flanker1985, first of all thank you very much for your interest in my campaigns. I understand you want only historical flyables in the pilot career "For the honor of France" right?

Don't  worry I won't turn your request down.
Actually I even believe it is already possible with just one small modification of only one file (not explained in the manual).
If my memory is correct, proceed as follows: first of all make sure you have a modded game version, and that you use the "ultimate  edition" of my campaigns (D/L available at M4T).  Find the folder JSGMEMODS/-FrenchWingsNoMods/DGen. In that folder, find the file PlanesFrC.dat and edit it to add the Curtiss H-75 and the Morane406: under each of the subcampaign headings DDG, BOF1, AirStart40, BOF2,  add 2 lines: MS406 and P_36A3; under each of the subcampaign headings MedfR1 and TorchfR, add the line P_36A3; under the subcampaign heading MedfR add the line MS406. Be careful and add exactly these lines. Save and close your edited PlanesFrC.dat file. Do not try the Hurricane MkI: it is not flyable for allied nations in DGen. Then in JSGME, activate the options for the unmodded version "FrenchWingsNoMods" and  "Battle of France & Vichy briefings". Finally, start your game and choose your pilot career and only historical flyable planes in the drop-down box menus available for each sub-campaign, before generating any mission. You should have the Curtiss H-75 and Morane 406 as available options. Later in the career you may switch back to the regular briefings, it will work.

Please let me know the results.

Note: the editing trick above should also work just with the unmodded version of my campaigns, version 10, also available at M4T, but the game itself must be modded to allow the Curtiss H-75 and the Morane 406 to be flyable.

Hi Vtrelut. Thanks so much for helping me. I like your Campaign very much. So far it is the only DGen Campaign that has the battle in western front, not that I don't like eastern front, but I have been playing it for so long, and want to fly for a different air force in different places for a change  ;)  And your "For the honor of France" recalled the western front right from the beginning to the very end.

So basically I need those mod thing, that mean I have to either download SAS or HSFX? OK, I can't do that right now actually. Because I my internet connection is kind crap. But as soon as I got them I'll start to do them things. But thank you so much for the help ;)

You just need a modded game with the MS406 and H-75A3 flyable. If you use 4.111m as your game version, install HSFX 6. Otherwise a mod activator is enough, as long as you can fly those 2 birds in QMB.

I have just downloaded this HSFX thing. They have every plane you ever need and new western front map as well. So I just wonder if you ever considered to do a remake of France campaign.

Hi M8, I will update my campaigns once the D-520 is available. Regarding maps it is more complicated than for planes, and will take more time, since a new DGen.exe is required (it is now being reworked by Asura).

As far as editing/creating your own DGen campaigns, please check out the knowledge base at M4T, with articles by Amagi and myself, among others.

Happy flying!

Also is there a way to stop the campaign from generate fake AI planes like LaGG-3 and Pe-2??
I think I have asked you this before at some point, but I think you mistook my mean and think that I don't want to fly a fake plane myself.
Can you help me? Much appreciate mate.  :)

Also your friend Boelcke have been this western front campaign. In his campaign, the last battle in Western German, but in your campaign, it is still the old eastern Berlin campaign from the Normandie-Niemen. Have you thought about to switch it to western German?  ;)

I am not in charge of the D-520, there is a team of modders doing it.

Regarding planes, just choose those you want to fly... and avoid the fakes. There is a menu option for that.
Now to avoid fake AIs, reduce random planes to 0 in conf.ini (check my read-me, it is explained there).

Regarding the West German map, actually it is the Northwestern Europe map, and I also use it a lot in my campaigns. Just try other careers.

Happy flying! :)

Title: HSFX 6.0 and French Wings
Post by: amittaizero on June 13, 2013, 05:56:46 AM
Great and mighty vtrelut,

So thrilled to find a dedicated French campaign - I've always been fascinated by the way the French continued the war even after the Vichy government came into power.

I'm having a bit of trouble playing the mod. I have HSFX 6.0 (plus patch) installed so that I can have all of the planes required by your mod. If I try to launch the game with the following mods activated: french AI voices, default French skins, Normandy map, Battle of France and Vichy briefings in English, and HSFX history mod - the game simply doesn't launch.

If I start the game without HSFX enabled, I'm able to go into the campaign but missions never launch due to this error message: 'Mission Loading failed: air.BF_109E1. I know this is something I'm doing wrong but I've read all of your readme material and browsed all the forums and can't fix it.

Here's how I installed the mod:

- installed direct2download patch (I have the Steam 4.09m version)
- installed enjoyr's skin packs
- installed hsfx 6.0
- installed hsfx 6.0 patch
- installed French Wings campaigns (dgen.exe, dgen, paintschemes, MODS and JSGMEMODS)
- did campaign settings from "read me first"

I open myself up to noob hate if I have to but I'm desperate to play this campaign. Thanks!

Sorry for the intrusion, but I am also a big fan of the great Vtrelut's French campaign.

I read that you have installed HSFX on top of 4.9 and it is not good because HSFX 6 is for 4.11!

Please read carefully instructions in "French Wings 1940 - 1945" - Modded Campaign "and start from ModPack UP2.01, adding the missing aircraft (if you can still find them).

I advise you to play the version for stock IL2, which does not take away the pleasure of the campaign and only requires 4.9. You can find it at following link:

Hey Vtrelut, long time no see. How have you been, mate?

I remember once you told me that you are going to make a HSFX version of this campaign. So we can fly with realist planes instead of fake replacement.'
Just wonder if you have done that yet. Because I still love your campaign. I am your biggest fan~!!!

 8) Hi mate, thanks a lot for your kind words.;)

Actually I am waiting for the future game patch which will include a stock Dewoitine D-520, to update my campaigns. I understand that Macwan/TD is working on it, maybe for 4.13m or 4.14m?

Once the stock game includes a D-520,  I will of course replace other fakes by the correct planes as much as possible from the stock game, and then I intend to work on mods too: Bloch 152, B-26 Marauder, etc.
