Title: VellaLavella/ Barakoma airfield/ Kia-airstrip: Patch II for map ag_New_Georgia [4.09]

When I made the actors for this Agracier map, I though putting in a single small Japanese landing-strip
in northern islands would be useful. But then I had scale problems: all my initial sea-landing-strips were too large
and my little land-base-strip turn out too small !! So I looked with envy across the bay and elsewhere on the map
for larger flat space, but I kept thinking that Kia was the logical cool place for jap secret action.
 
So, in a stubborn fashion I tried to make it work anyway expecting it would not.
But it did in a strange way: I replaced the 'too small runaway' by 'two even smaller runaways end-on-end'.
That became the Kia airstrip experiment. Had some fun and frustrations doing it, so added scenery
from time to time, to cool down a bit.  As a result, objects put on this map, will be needed.  :-[

Altitude patch correction and revised actors at Munda point have been included in version v2.31.

This has not been done yet to v2.21. Working on it in day's to come. Considering the patch was made on saturday 11
and that it is now thuesday the 14, this is the time it took to integrate the change. Upcoming will be v2.22 with the change.

This went easier then I thought this time; I didn't have to fight the appearance of random trees in the wrong place.

So the in-between mod v2.22 is now up to date with the map_h patch and restored to the right place actors at Munda Point.
This is still a version with all the sea-landing-strips, the Kia mini airfield with no infantry mod involved.

Installed the new actors and got the new sea bases!

All is really good...and your dedication is clearely visible!

I have noticed a missing object mesh on my installation on Kia , if I post a screenshoot can you tell me what object is so I can reinstall it?

(I know that is a mesh trouble because otherwise I can't save mission....)

I knew objects at Kia would be an issue because I have used a lot. I thought that Infantry-mod would be the most
troublesome since it is not a part of UP 2.0 install. Don't know about content of the UP 2.1 install however.
So that is why I have made the Redux version. Which version did you use, redux or full ?
Yes, I would like to "see" what is the problem that you have...

Also you may try the Universal static.ini checker for "finding missing objects"; ( design for missions that can't be saved on new maps, made by... unknown person; provided by Boomer ... ).

A new version of Barakoma airfield is in the works, again for map ag_New Georgia, and the KIA patch/mod.
A picture of the airfield incoming shortly. Compared to the same airfield on SLOT maps and/or other simulators, this is bit different.
Hope you will like.

I will finalize it, somewhere in the future, but for the moment: testing and testing the actors. Hope to
release a v2.32 patch, with this airfield at the current stage of it's development, in about a week, more or less. Also added some more
minor repairs/corrections on the map, as will be explained within... Bigger patch.  :-X

I didn't expect the work to be as advanced as it is (99% done for Barakoma Airfield).
But still a lot of testing, and some fine tuning remains to be done. That will require more time.
So as formerly promised, here is the "as is" WIP v2.32 "interim" full version: the link above was updated.

If any of you use this stuff, I would appreciate some comments, feedback, error report etc...  :-\

Final version of this will be required before I can do a redux and the simpler patch versions.

Contrary to Kia, this "latest airfield add-on" is about 90% historical, and as close to the pictures
and plans that was possible. I had no-high-res pic. to view the details.
This is the home of unit of fame "Baa, Baa," Black Sheep VMF-214; see Missions/UM/.text for data.
Black Sheep used it for about six weeks.
The airfield however was in use from September 1943 to June 1944. :-X

The patch contains four files. But the complete map should have about twelve.
You should first have/or install the ag_New_Georgia map mod, and have it running properly.
Then apply the patch (after renaming the files to be replaced). Any missing file in a map, will cause not loading.
(Like missing the actors file).
Labels file, should be empty, 0 k.
A corrupt file may have the same effect as a missing file... (?)
Normally missing objects should cause a 'not saving'...
But that might still be the problem, making actors not working, so map not loading...

As stated, you should have all the needed objects for the FULL version. Although a redux version exist for KIA,
the Barakoma-Kia-combined is only available in full version for now... I'm waiting for the next stage, for the
PBY sea-base, before I go redux: I will replace objects_cat (2 x coral dens), eliminate the trails and road plates, as
well as infantry and infantry-mods, (as was done before) and use a lot less trees.

Check out the map. Check the download of both map and patch for corrupts. Checkout for missing objects:

My objects come mostly from an UP2 install on 4,09m; and maybe from a few maps.

I found the problem Nadia,it was in the original map download in the add to all ini file it reads add the following lines to your all.ini:

Nadia after I got the map to open in FMB I found out I couldn't save missions,so I used the ini checker and found these were the only two things missing buildings.House$BlastPen_CoralSand_Small

I can't seem to find these in any of my installs or if they are included in a objects mod download like Pacific objects or a map mod.Do you have these and if you do would it be possible for you to include them in one of your updates?

Thank you Malone. I knew Cat_Objects ( 2x Coral dens/ I used 4 ) might not be available to everyone, but I didn't knew were they came
from. :)

I've checked. I do not have cat_Midway as a mod. So it must have been integrated in UP2..

Update: I have included the two objetcs as an option, in v2.32+, and the link has been revised.

New version v2,33 and link posted. Barakoma airfield is done: alternate runway for bigger crafts is ready. Test missions B-25J and
'for-fun' mission for jeep added, northbound trail recon, under fire, mostly friendly fire at that! This brought more up-coast details. :)
Take note that previous tests missions have been updated to account for having moved the pens.  ???

Great News ! As I was wondering how I could work on the US naval base south of Barakoma,
( the PBY seaplane base as is... ) with a major geographical feature missing: sea passage that
I think is called "Rovombun Pass" or something like that... I dared try, and my initial result was a
an amazing success... reverse engineering map_c into Mymap_c and start preliminary work on it:

So this is starting on the right foot; it can be done... The Chanel is not exactly what it should be yet, but I'd say close 90% in one try !

V2.34 is now up, with updated link Picture above also updated.

A small addition: expanded Jeep mission version.
Big addition: ...the photos and maps that were used...  historical context details...

Changes in the patch itself: The "Rovumbun" passage announced above is done; big Island of Laipari thus created;
the Biloa Anchorage Bay redesigned to match maps bit more; two small Islands added at the bay's mouth;
Mission, Plantation and their associated HQ's; plus the small up-coast village of Maravari.
Some more details up or down the coast; minor corrections.

Of course the PBY base (..been an issue..) and Vonunu's buildings (..more and more an issue..) were displaced.

New to this version map_c and map_c_table patch ( gray scale "water/surf/land" definitions ).
Please save your originals before patching..

V2.35 is now up, with updated link.   Pictures above are also updated.

New Jeep mission versions; phony bridges effects ; better narrow road effects; imminent danger and traffic... 
Couple of new photos showing messy roads and vehicles, plus bridge construction...

Changes in the patch itself:
- Biloa Anchorage Bay further redesigned to match maps bit more;
- western seashore lake was added beyond Biloa bay. ( see in pic above );
- better define Islands that were previously looking like peninsulas; thus overall Vella Levella coast redesign to fit bit more
  accurately satellite imagery here and there;
- a hole lot of new small coastal communities of the 1943 era, all around Vella Lavella;
- authentic WWII names of locations in text; ( see comments in in the pack );
- correction to one of Barakoma's back road;
- Vonunu township now fully relocated and downsized towards north-eastern point of Laipari Island.
- Maravari village becomes official US/NZ main supply base (historical);
- Biloa's mission downgraded to the status of simple ruins (historical).
- Machine Gun Gully.
- did I mention Kimbolia Radar Station installations, uphill north-west of Munda Munda cove PT boat base ?
- WIP work on some rivers..
- well, been a long month since the last update !!!!


In this version, ( like in v2.34 previously ), there is more of  the map_c and map_c_table patch "changes"
( gray scale "water/surf/land/rivers" definitions ).
Please save your originals before patching..
