Title: [Download] Defense of the Reich campaign 2.1 - modded
Post by: Boelcke on August 13, 2010, 11:29:53 AM

Defense of the Reich 2.0 by Boelcke (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgjhNd1RjRw#)

Available only at A&A paintworks, klick the Link from my Sig.!

At a short glance:

More than 100 Luftwaffe skins done by myself, a huge new skinpack even for allies, more subcampaigns added, more flyable planes from the modding hangar, larger bomber formations with 39 bombers and a new USAAF fighter campaign included ... the result from six months continious work ... soon at your home theater :)

The campaigns were tested with IL2 Pacific Fighters Vers. 4.09m, UP 2.01 and DGEN.EXE V 4.0.8.6.

You need to install UP 2.01 (HSFX 4.1 should also work)

http://ultrapack.tuttovola.org/ (http://ultrapack.tuttovola.org/)

and Antos Bf 109 Ultimate Pack

http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,6424.0.html (http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,6424.0.html)

The following planes are optional

Fw 190 D15:

http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,5683.0.html (http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,5683.0.html)

Me 262 B1 nightfighter:

http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,5064.0.html (http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,5064.0.html)

Me 262 A Ultimate pack:

http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,6922.0.html (http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,6922.0.html)

The zip file contains a lot of files, don´t hesitate, it´s easy done:

1. RV_modded.exe

The campaign files with self installer.

Double click the file and when the installer is asking you where to install, choose the Il-2 Sturmovik 1946 root folder – no subfolders!

After that you can start the Luftwaffe campaign “Boelckes defense of the Reich” in the campaign rooster or the USAAF fighter campaign “Boelckes Battle over Germany” in the USAAF campaign rooster.

That´s it!

All the other files in the file package are optional.

2. install_dgen_exe.exe

The latest version 4.0.8.6 of dgen.exe with self installer. Double click the file and install the content into the Il-2 Sturmovik 1946 root folder – not into subfolders!

3. Seasons pack.zip

If you´re using UP 2.01 you can use the files included in this zip file (for HSFX I don´t know) to enable the winter and autumn Berlin map. To do this copy alle the included files into the DGEN folder of IL-2 AFTER you have installed the campaign files (topic 1). Overwrite the old ones.

4. Smaler bomber formations.zip

In the campaign the enemy heavy bombers will appear in box formations with 39 instead of 26 planes. This adds much more immersion to the game, cause there is much more the feeling, you´re flying through a real bomber stream.

I´m playing with an Intel i5 750, 4 GB RAM and RADEON 5850 and it works well for me.

If you are causing performance problems with older, slower hardware, you can go back to the 26 planes bomber formations.

To do this copy alle the included files into the DGEN folder of IL-2 AFTER you have installed the campaign files (topic 1). Overwrite the old ones.

5. Coni_ini_guide.pdf

A PDF file with a small guide for confi.ini file tweaking, which i´ve found at mission4today.com.

6. Optional planes.zip

If you have installed one of the optional planes (Fw 190D15, Me 262A or/and Me 262 B1), you can enable these planes by copying the file

planesdeO.dat

which is included in the Optional planes.zip  file, into the DGEN folder of IL-2 AFTER you have installed the campaign files (topic 1). Overwrite the old one.

Attention: You can only choose the plane, which is installed. For example you have installed the Fw 190D15 but not the Me 262A and Me 262 B1, don´t choose the Me 262A or the Me 262 B1 cause the campaign will crash. If choosing the  Fw190D15, there will be no problem.

The campaign conmtains a Luftwaffe and as bonus an USAAF fighter campaign. The USAAF fighter campaign comes with airstart only.

1. The Luftwaffe campaign contains the following subcampaigns:

- Germany Berlin 1943

You encounter bomber formations mostly without escort. Sometimes some P47 and/or P38 will appear, but only a few.

- Big week February 1944 (*new*)

The bomber formations are now larger and all the formations are now escorted. P51 fighters are shown the first time.

- Germany Berlin Spring 1944

The USAAF fighters are becoming more aggressive and skilled.

- Balaton Ungary 1944

You will encounter formations of the 5th USAAF from italy, with famous untis like the checkertail clan and others.

- Northern germany atumn 1944

In autumn 1944 the luftwaffe units were reassembled and equipped with new fughters after the huge losses suffered at the invasion battles. You will now encounter USAAF and RAF planes and new planes like the Fw190D9 will be available for you. The missions are totaly different to the previous, with much more fighter bomber interception and twin engined bomber formations of the 2nd TAF and 9th USAAF.

- Berlin end of 1944

The last stand against huge formations of US planes over Berling. Mostly bomber interception missions. A lot of new planes are available even the new jets.

- Germany 1945

The US planes are doing much more fighter sweeps and ground attack missions. The missions are harder for Luftwaffe pilots.

- Battle of Berlin 1945

Defending the town against the russian army, you will  encounter VVS forces in large numbers. It´s totally different to the missions against the USAAF.

- Jet age, the last days

The intention was to create a short subcampaign of the last days before defeat, with all the jet planes available in Il-2.

yoh geat!

I will start that campaign in a few days!
**EDIT***

argh!!
it's getting troublesome now. Do I really need to install the wüsenfuchs cockpits for that??!
I already was living well without the ultimate 109 pack and will have to install it now... but i tired the wüstenfuchs cockpits and they give me huge frame drops so i cannot use them.

I will try to work around... this pack quite a nasty thing to install

Don't worry Boelcke everything you wrote was very clear. But for someone who's not in use with installing mods by himself and who is a lazy user on UP modding is always confusing. Making mistakes ans solving theme take time!!! But I did it. And your campaign is working perfectly with every new plane :)

Until now i was relying on the Mod Packs only, but for this campaign it was nearly impossible to miss Antos pack

You're perfectly right! And I don't regret the time spent for the installation. Now, thanks to SAS site, I'm able to install a mod and I'm enjoying Anto's pack 100%! And now I can enjoy storming through big formation of B-17! Yes! ;)

I don't have a lot of experience but, as far as I understood, you have to install both because you have to install wüstenfuchs cockpits to have Anto's pack working.

Looks like a great campaign. I installed it, and selected under Luftwaffe "Boelcke's defense of the reich" but when it comes to select which time in the campaign and choose aircraft I push the little green button in the lower right hand corner and it just pops back up again and I can't get to my mission.

did you read the readmes and have all the nescessray additional mods installed?

namely the full Anto's 109 pack? otherwise you are missing planes.

Hi,

i just need more informations, like Vampire_pilot said, beside UP or HSFX there is Anto´s Bf109 pack needed.

Also a good idea is always to update your briefing files for ALL dgen campiagns from vtrelut:

it solves many problems.

If it still does not work, try it once again and close IL2. Start explorer and look into the IL2 root folder, there you will find a dgenerror.log or/and a dgenerror2.log file. Copy the content of the files here into the forum and i can have a look.

At the moment I fly Boelcke's campaign with UP 2.01 (+ latest SAS buttons file) and no other mods installed and it works without problems. I think it is possible to play it without Anto's pack. I noticed that the missing Bf-109s don't appear in the plane selection menue, even though they are included in the planesdeO file.
Title: Re: [Download] Defense of the Reich campaign 2.0 - modded
Post by: Boelcke on August 20, 2010, 11:03:09 AM
Yes, it works as long as another plane is asigned as fighter, that should be in all subcampaigns, but don´t choose a 109 that isn´t installed.
Title: Re: [Download] Defense of the Reich campaign 2.0 - modded
Post by: SAS~vampire_pilot on August 21, 2010, 01:37:12 AM
i tried that also and got a backfire in the very fisrt mission as a 109G5 was in a random flight and i did not have thet from stock UP. got an error right away.

i did not select it as player so you may experience luck until now that no Anto 109 was called up yet.

actually i found a low_res cockpit version here on SAS to work with, at least I can play now. i still hate these cockpits though as the sun shines through the dashboard! which i find extremely annoying. same for original high res and low res....

I have just checked the db files. The only subcampaigns with Anto's BF-109G5 or BF-109G5AS are RV_Berlin43 and  RV_BerlinMai44. If you don't want to install his pack you can try to remove the entries of the planes in the [Squadrons] and [Planes] sections (but first backup both files).

actually, Boelcke, being quite well into the campaign now, lets give some feedback.

I actually find it too easy! this is a turkey shoot.

I am into Mai 44, almost no contct with escorts  over Berlin (either missing or too few catched early by roaming squads). My Staffel had no (!!) casualty since the beginning of 44! (now is 8. june and we transfered to balaton). I am averaging 2 B 17s per mission (holding back) while being downed only once early in a 109. my 190 A7 has been absolutely unscratched so far.

I donno, but can the fights be more dense with the bombers or more numberwise? i have seen them wandering around like they missed their bombers completely also.

but then... i have nothing against a good turkey shoot now and then;)

you can increase the difficulty in the [dgen] section of confi.ini:

set CampaignAI=Hard (Normal is default)

or/and

CampaignDifficulty=Hard

or/and

Maxbomberskill=1 or 2 or 3

look into the pdf file in the file pack called "confi_ini_guidefor_dgen_section.pdf" there is a description about the meaning of the settings.

But the changes will work only if you start a new (sub)campaign or when changing from one subcampaign to another.

Title: Re: [Download] Defense of the Reich campaign 2.0 - modded
Post by: SAS~vampire_pilot on August 25, 2010, 10:19:24 AM
CampaignDifficulty=Hard is set for me.

also i encounter a lot of bomb equipped P-38s over balaton. I think these should perform some ecort duty but insted behave like bombers: do nothing until you shoot them out of the sky. then they bail out.... can it eb prevented that they have these loaouts?

The spawn thing is maybe hardcoded... but I think the squad balance should be more favoring the allies in 44 since when 8 Fw 190 + 8 109s attack 4 P-51s... the outcome is clear. the other 4 p-51 just flying sightseeing with bombs

because I have, as said. why getting angry?

Maxbomberskill and CampaignAI also but I know and try these things... outcome is allways too few and too easy oponents.

all of this won't help against bomb carrying escorts and still too few of them.
yes i use UP2.01 which used the modified AI, so they behave as expected by me but they should not have the loadouts to begin with.

we can end this here, I don't want to anger you and just wanted to tell about my experience.

the way you told your experience was a little bit to offensive for my taste - i´m not responsible for the AI behaviour

fighters only have loadouts when on a fighter bomber mission, it´s assigned in the xxxplanes.dat files, i didn´t change any settings of the AI skill from the former version of the campaign

that´s a moment i ask myself, why am i creating free stuff for the community in my free time ...

sorry, as said, didn't mean to offend you, my wording may have been excited from playing just before posting.
I am apreciating your work and stuff. you should know that from the past.

then I will let it rest with me saying that I find it too easy in general, even when hard settings are used.
maybe it is just me.

When I tried to start the campaign( Pilot career/new/Luftwaffe/def of the Reich/set the difficulty parameters)
After hitting the start button the game freezes with a flickering screen
I copied The DGen error log for you: "DGen: can't open status.datFilesstatus.dat"
I had Dgen 4.0.8.7 before
I installed version 4.0.8.6 probably over 4.0.8.7
I don't know if this is what causing the problem
Can you help me?
Best regards!
Gerson

Hi Gerson, a very strange error message ...

... dgen.exe 4.0.8.7 is a community patched version, i recommend to use the version 4.0.8.6 which is the latest official version.

I need some informations:

If i have understand you right, you have installed the version 4.0.8.6 and the error occured?

Does it happen before you could choose one of the subcampaigns?

Do you have any problems with other dgen campaigns, especialy with Luftwaffe campaigns?

Do you use enjoyr´s patch?

Do you have installed UP 2.01 and Antos Bf 109 ultimate pack?

I installed 4.0.8.6.and no error occurred
I do have enjor's patch, and I'm running UP2.01 with Antos Bf ultimate pack
Everything is there at the right place
All your previous campaigns are working fine
I started a new career ( Luftwaffe/ def of the Reich/choose the difficulty settings/hitted start button)
The game freezed and a flickering screen appeared
I decided to remove the file planedeodat thinking that this could be the cause
Now when I start the campaign the game comes back to the initial screen
Thanks
Gerson

Gerson, think enjoyr patch is the problem, but it´s my fault, i missed the description on the download page of my campaign how to add a new version of the campaign to enjoyr´s patch. I will add i asap.

To solve your problem:

Look into the DGEN folder of Il2 and delete the following files

campaignsDeo.dat
campaignsDeo_ru.dat
campaignsDeo_de.dat
classesDeo.dat
planesDeo.dat

Then install the "defense of the Reich" campaign again, but to desktop or into  a temp folder and rename the files

campaignsDeo.dat
campaignsDeo_ru.dat
campaignsDeo_de.dat
classesDeo.dat
planesDeo.dat

into

campaignsDe¦.dat
campaignsDe¦_ru.dat
campaignsDe¦_de.dat
classesDe¦.dat
planesDe¦.dat

and copy it into the dgen folder overwriting the old ones.

Now it should work.

Ill do exactly what you said
Just a small question: Whats that symbol after the De in the line "campaignsDe ?.dat
Thanks

Hi Boelcke
I just copy and pasted your lines over the old ones in the DGen folder created on the desktop after a new install
Then i copied and pasted the new DGen folder on the desktop over the games DGen folder overriding the old one
But no joy
Now I'm back to the first scenario: freezing game with a flickering screen
Remember when I removed the "planedeodat " the game do not freezed anymore but returned to the initial screen
Just to let you know: in this new install to the desktop i only installed the "RV_modded_v2.1.exe" without the others files contained in the DL Zip file
Thanks again, and sorry to disturb you
Best regards
Gerson

Did you also delete the files

campaignsDeo.dat
campaignsDeo_ru.dat
campaignsDeo_de.dat
classesDeo.dat
planesDeo.dat

in the dgen folder? If not, you have the campaign double in the campaign rooster, that´s the problem.

Hi Boelcke
Yes I deleted the lines BEFORE adding the new ones created in the temp install on the desktop
And I realized that I have in my Mission/Campaign/DE/ a folder called LWP_Defence_of_Reich_1943 which is an old campaign created by " Flatspinman "
Do you think that this can be an issue?

no, FSM´s campaign is a static campaign, that´s no problem

please try the USAAF fighter campaign "battle over germany" which is also included and reort if this campaign works

Also make a new try to start the german campaign and copy and paste the whole dgenerror.log here into the thred, i will check it this evening after work, i have to eave now.

Tried the USAAF campaign and had the same problem

Do I have to activate something for the DGen Error log to work?

I remember something like to add a line to the confi.ini (DGenErrorlog=1) but I'm not sure

Ill wait for your after work reply

Thanks

No need to tweak the confi.ini

to be honest ... i´m clueless what´s wrong, perhaps the downloaded file was corrupt?

some times it works when updating the message files:

but i have mo idea anymore

Are there other people around who installed this campaign and will report their results here please?

Title: Re: [Download] Defense of the Reich campaign 2.1 - modded
Post by: Boelcke on October 14, 2010, 12:33:12 AM
The campaignsDe¦_cs.dat file is for the Czech language version, i doubt that this can be a problem, the modded version of IL2 is alway looking for the *_rus.dat files, if there is no *_rus.dat it will take the files without any language addy like campaignsDe¦.dat which is for the english language version. The others are without importance. You can try to delete this file also but i doubt that this will have an effect.

The error message in your dgen.log file shows that dgen.exe or il2fb.exe can´t open a file. There must be something about your installation. Do the planes from Antos pack work in the quick mission builder?

Can you choose a subcampaign from the campaign rooster or does the game crash when only choosing the campaign? If you can choose a subcampaign, try it with another, later part of the campaign and check if it works.

Is there a way to unistall the campaign, before I reinstall a "fresh" one

Patch for the USAAF fighter campaign is put!

I didn´t notice that the letter code for the USAAF fighter campaign is used by the "True pacific" 5th fighter campaign. So with installation of my campaign the old USAAF campaign "5th fighter" was lost. To solve the problem i did this small patch for version 2.0 and 2.1.

www.axis-and-allies-paintworks.com/Skins/Boelcke/Patch_DefenseOfTheReich_v21.zip

Please install the campaign and after that, copy the content of the zip file with the patch into the DGEN folder, overwriting the old files. After that you will have restored the 5th fighter PTO campaign like it was before. In the future version i will use the new letter code - so it´s important that you use this patch.

Ok well Im having the same problem with the Luftwaffe Campaign.
When I hit generate, the game freezes and flickers.
With the USAAF campaign it works fine...my god, Im so used to lightweight German fighters with heavy cannons that this behemoth (P=47) with .50's is quite a challenge!
Ive don the download onto desktop and renamed the appropriate folders, and then used those to replace the ones in the Dgen file.
I also have the cockpit pack and antos 109 pack-albeit with several of those planes deactivated, as they wont work anyway.
So....any ideas whats going on with the Luftwaffe campaign?

EDIT: Started another campain as a USAAF P-38 driver. First mission was great, much easier than the jug, but when I tried to load the second mission it said loading failure=Null....? ???

when loading failure=Null appears just load again and it should work

Check in FMB if the Bf 109 G5 and G5AS are working, that the planes from Anto you will need.

Try to start a Lw campiaign in Late 1944 and report if this works

Wasnt sure what it was suposed to do, but whatever it did it works great! Now all campaigns work well. I think there may just be too many planes though, cause sometimes when Im escorting the bombers (p-38, first USAAF campaign) and my 8 P-38's get jumped by 15 190's and 8 109's ( ???) in the ensuing furball the computer will freeze and "Il2.exe has stopped working" pops up on the desktop. Not a fault of the mod though, I just thought my quad core would handle it!

EDIT: Ok one more thing, I added planesdeO.dat so that I could use my D-15/262B-1a etc, but they dont show up. What am i missing? isnt that one of the files that had to be changed?
Title: Re: [Download] Defense of the Reich campaign 2.1 - modded

If your Bf 109 G5´s still don´t in the game, the campaign will produce an error at the next mission which uses that planes, perhaps you can play ten missions without problem perhaps it´s at the next misssion.

Concerning the freezes, i think it´s a matter of RAM, not of the quad core cpu. The Berlin map which i´m using for this campaign is very demanding for RAM and cpu. Do you use one of the exe version which are coming together with UP? Using one of this files can solve this problem, you have to try out which one is the best for you. For me the 512 MB exe was the best until using the 4GB version for 64 Bit systems.

Keep in mind that my modded dgen campaigns are driving the game to its asolutely limit. It´s always very tricky. If something with the installaion is wrong, it´s going worse. There is one member of the german community who reported me for every new version of this camapign that he always getting crashes for the Berlin spring 1944 subcampaign, but he is the only one, i can´t reproduce this problem. That the Bf 109 G5´s don´t work together with your installation is a hint that something don´t work like it should, perhaps an updatewith the online update can solve this problem.

Concerning the use of the Fw190D15 or/and Ne 262B-1a, the planes will only be available for the players flight, they don´t show up as AI planes, that was the only possible way to add them occasional to the campaign, as long as they aren´t part from the UP.

Ok so the AI using a plane that I dont have (G5) will effect how the game runs. Got it. Im trying to figure out whats wrong with them. I didnt think it would be a problem as long as I didnt select the G5.

Well my system has 8 gigs of RAM on a 64 bit system, so I would think it would be fine. Im not sure what you mean by "exe version which are coming together with UP", Im running up2.01 if thats what you mean.

AS far as the optional planes thats what Im saying, Im not getting the option for them even thought they are installed, and I added the .dat file as per the install guide.

Look into the folder \jsgmemods of your Il2 install, there you will find a \00_4GB_CLIENT_Executable subfolder, that´s the il2 EXE you can activate with the "jsgme" mod enabler. This exe makes Il2 using more than the 2 GB it can use in stock version (cause it´s a 32 Bit application). That should give you a performance boost - without it your 8 GB RAM are useless for Il2.

There is also a version of the 4 GB exe for use together with Track IR - \00_6DOF_Tracker_4GBVersion if you use TrackIR that should be the right one.

Try it, it works fine for me.

you can copy it "per hand", backup your il2fb.exe and copy the concerning exe file you choose into the il2 folder

I found and downloaded the 4GB patch in another thread, so I should be good to go, the high altitude with lots of planes and contrails just slows me down.
I realize that the d-15/262b-1a are late war, but I cant access them at all.

Another hint, that your installation does work flawlessly.

This campaign has more than 5000 dl over the last years, what would you think how much posts we would see here if the campaign wouldn´t work?

As suggested before: Do a reinstall of your UP - that´s the only solution. I can´t do support all around the clock, cause i have a job and a family beside campaign building.
