Title: [MOD Map] - Coral Islands (UPDATED: 31-01-10)
Post by: SAS~Malone on September 09, 2009, 03:30:36 AM
Hi all
Here's a little rework I did of the Pacific Islands map, initially just for myself, but the response has been favourable, so you guys can try it out and tell me what you think.
I've wanted to do something different with this map for some time, and it was only when Bombsaway released his cool new shallows textures that I decided to do it.
Its my first general release map, so feedback is much appreciated.
This map is fictional. Any resemblance to the real thing would be a complete fluke. :D
There are 2 downloads you need to do for the map to display as intended.
The first is the main download, the second is a little texture update.
For the update, just overwrite any files that ask.

I've included all textures that are not default, for ease of compatibility.
Some are reworks of Bombsaway, viking4570 and agracier's textures, so credits to them for their original tex's.  8)

Here's a set of QMB missions for those using QMB Pro.

Very nice map re-texture!

Now we are talking about sharks, I can remember seeing screens of them in original PF, or am I going crazy(er)?

Thank you buddy for your efforts on Island maps transformation  :D

Bombsaway, viking4570 and agracier's contribution is really appreciated ! :-*

Thanks guys  :D, glad you like it!
I've completed the update, which adresses some texture issues, especially reducing the tile effect on the shallows. ;D
Unfortunately, I've also just suffered a terminal HD crash, which is going to delay me for a few days. I'll post it as soon as I'm back up and running again... :'(

Cool, and I know exactly what you mean about the "don't know when to stop" bit. I'm the same damn way. :D :D

Hey if you're on a spending spree I could use some new stuff for my computer too... ;D

Very cool map Malone, the ocean and coral textures remind me of
Jimko's Pacific Blues and the Pactex series from CFS2. Thanks! 8)

Hi everybody,
Since the update 2, I have these objects missing in my static.ini:

buildings.House$Water_Tower_001 buildings.House$storage_006
buildings.House$Rus_Barn_001 buildings.House$rus_barn_003
buildings.House$storage_004 buildings.House$storage_002
buildings.House$storage_003 buildings.House$Rus_House_002
buildings.House$FurniturePalmAg3 but, curiously, the map works and saves fine in FMB. It's only curiosity but if someone has an idea... :-[ Cheers K Title: Re: [D/L]New Map : - Coral Islands (UPDATED: 12-09-09) Post by: SAS~Malone on September 13, 2009, 12:52:46 PM Hi Korrigan It must be some objects I used in the new actors.static. It shouldn't affect the map, though, you'll just be missing some objects which I used when populating one of the islands. Tittykarma Cove, I think it was. Strange that you don't have those objects, though...I have so many I don't remember which are added, or default. ::) Title: Re: [D/L]New Map : - Coral Islands (UPDATED: 12-09-09) Post by: SAS~HolyGrail on September 13, 2009, 01:03:41 PM Holy Crap !! :o that is now a wonderful optimized balanced map !! gotta love this stuff ;D Thank you again SAS~Malone and other guys involved with textures. If by any chance anybody knows what mod have object: House$BambooHut2
that would be nice as it is missing for me
but no biggie it loads up in FMB and works like a charm  :-*

PS: Nice trick with that chick , thanks L.O.L.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I've got some new QMB missions done. I actually went to a little bit of effort to do a decent mission with these.
Included are new Strike, Bridge and Armor missions.
Strike scenario: You assist your side during a naval attack on the enemy's island.
Bridge scenario: Basically a reversal of the Strike mission. You defend your island against enemy naval attack.
Armor scenario: Blue: Attack armor at harbor depot
Red: Attack armor on enemy beach.

I'm doing a bit more populating, then I'll release new versions of None, Scramble and Airbase. :)

Get attached missions file: (replace older ones with these)

Hi Malone,
Thank you for your answer, I found the missing objects in the MadToc ToW pack available at france-simulation.com ;)

Hi SAS~Malone- here's one shot I took biscuit bombing Volcano Island

This is one where I think the textures went a little astray but you tell me. I think they look okay around the landing strip, but the sand texture seems a bit out of place with the surroundings. I'm sure it was just me substituting texture files I didn't have  :-\

Anyway, lov'n what you've done with that map.

Thanks again

Post by: SAS~Malone on November 26, 2009, 03:05:49 AM
lol, let me know if you're still having problems, maybe i can do something from my side to help.
@ For Triad773; mate, I don't remember if i replied to you earlier about the textures, but I noticed from the screenshot you sent that you haven't added the update for the map. I recommend it, it looks much more the way I intended.
You'll notice the addition of the lagoon near the northern airbase, amongst other texture changes, etc.
I'll make an 'all-in-one' download for this map soon, after finishing off a few more bits and pieces.  8)

Can't wait for the update...it looks beautiful from the pics here!

OK, chaps, i am still having all sorts of delays with the new version - it's still WIP, but will take a bit longer.
In the meanwhile, I've updated the links with a new upload, so you should be able to d/l V1 now again....this is just a 'quick-fix' for the first version, and I'll make a new thread for V2, which will include extra bits of scenery and an extra airfield.
Don't forget to d/l the update part as well.  ;) 8)
**I've tested the new d/l, and it worked for me. Please report any d/l errors in this thread... ;)
Post by: saunders1953 on January 31, 2010, 09:46:15 AM
Thanks for the new upload, Malone. But now I have a problem...after extraction, both folders are empty! I have tried several re-downloads, but it's always the same.  I get a message during extraction saying the the Burma KT something/something texture file is corrupt (or missing) and another one missing with "Burma" in it.  I'm gonna sit tight and wait for your v2.

Thanks for all your work and assistance!
Post by: Birdman on January 31, 2010, 10:02:51 AM
I get corrupted 1600Mt_Village_A.BumpH.tga in the map pack and corrupted JungleKTABurma_fields.tga in update pack. I got the first one from the previous download, and the map seems to load without the second one.

However, I don't have textures
AirField1= forest/summer/dlv_ForrestFar.tga,2
AirField2= forest/summer/dlv_ForrestGround2.tga
so I had to repalce those with Coral_Tex/Coral/dlv_ForrestFar3.tga,2 to get the map to load.

I have Ultr@Pack v2.0m and don't know which map installs those textures. I also have a lot of object errors in QMB missions, so I'll need many objects packs not present in UP.

Anyway, the map looks beautiful although it may not be like intended because of those missing textures.
Post by: SAS~Malone on January 31, 2010, 10:20:35 AM
these corrupted files are really bugging me now - i've tried again, and on my side it works perfectly.
i'll keep looking into it, thanks for letting me know....
@Birdman, the map works fine without the update, but you're missing out on some the biggest changes done in the update.
I must also say that i did this map to work with the SAS modact version, and also based on the old UI mapmods. Seems i'll have to do a complete, all-in-one update, geared to work for UP 2.0....i'll do this for V2, and will include any textures that are currently missing - you could replace textures (as you've done), but obviously the map won't look quite as intended... :-[
I'm pretty busy with some RL stuff for at least the next month, so it'll be some time before I get V2 finished and properly tested.
I'll upload those missing textures individually later, hopefully that'll get it working properly for you in the meanwhile... ;)
again, keep the feedback coming guys, i can't fix it unless i know it's broke... ;)
my apologies for these problems...

Hey I just tried it. I got an error after the update:

What can I do to fix this?

Thanks again

Post by: SAS~Malone on January 31, 2010, 12:08:39 PM
....what mod version you running, Triad? could you try to load the map in FMB, then it should give a more detailed error at the bottom of the screen if it fails. Also, then use Shift+Tab to bring up the error log, and towards the bottom it should give more specific error comments, e.g: a missing texture file, or such......
Post by: Triad773 on January 31, 2010, 12:32:53 PM
UP 2.0. Tried reinstalling Coral Islands but no dice. Seemed like it was working before.

I'll try FMB and see wassup

Thanks

oh dear, mate - it seems like you've d/l'd this unnecessarily, if you had it working previously. this update is the same one as before at the moment, it's just really an updated link, as the previous one was on the blink. i just re-uploaded it for the guys who were having problems, but it seems some guys are still getting errors with the d/l, unfortunately. i don't understand, 'cause i've tried d/l'ing it a couple times, and all works fine.
the new V2 version is still a while away...sorry for any confusion.... :-[

Here's a shot of the error log

. . . .  ??? GAH! I just read what you posted since I've been sitting here.

What should I do now- just delete the Coral Is folders and reload the original without the patch?

Thanks

Is it possible to get them re-uploaded?  They were beautiful but they don't work for me anymore.  I think I overwrote the older version or something and now I get a corrupted file message.

Thanks!

Hey csvousden- it works for me anyway. Not sure the nature of the message, but it does not seem to effect the functioning of the map. Try it and let me know if it works anyway for you.

Hmmm...I'm getting errors on extraction:

for Coral_Islands_V1: Data error in 'Coral_Tex\coral\1600Mt_Village_A.BumpH.tgs' File is broken

for Coral_UPDATE_1: Data error in 'Coral_Tex\Coral\JungleKTABuma_fields.tga' File is broken

Any help appreciated.

I did try just installing the map even with the corrupt file, but no go.  I got a java runtime exception and then a crash to desktop.

I recall having an older version of it.  I know it did work. But then I started all over with ultrapak 2.0.

Oh well.

Guys, i'll have to try and upload it somewhere else to see if it works for more of you, but i'm actually getting a bit tired of this issue now. its a 15MB download, which i've uploaded and re-d/l'd to test so many times, that its ridiculous, and it worked for me every time.
Please hang in there, guys - I'll post with a new d/l link soon, but am still working on finishing ver 2, so I'll probably only do it when done with that. Then I'll do an SAS upload, Mediafire and Filefront. If it still doesn't work with any of those, then I'm afraid you're on your own.  8)

Hi Malone,

Thanks for this map. I just installed it and got it to work, so far without the update, which I have already downloaded just in case.
I noticed that in your read-me file, the entry for the all.ini was "Coral_Islands  Coral_Islands/load.ini." Does the extra space matter? I changed it to "Coral_Islands Coral_Islands/load.ini" and it's running just fine.

Thanks again for this nice map. Much appreciated, especially since over here its freezing outside, with three feet of snow.

Regards,

FW
Post by: SAS~Malone on February 15, 2010, 11:04:10 PM
Hi FW, glad you got it working man! :D
The extra space doesn't matter at all, there just needs to be at least one space between the 2 bits. When time permits, I'll be finishing version 2, which'll feature a few more bits and pieces, and another airfield or two. 8)
Post by: Friedrich-Wilhelm on February 16, 2010, 01:09:59 PM
Hi Malone,

Thanks, looking forward to your update. So, you're saying it wasn't the space in the all.ini entry that's responsible for this?

These, I got after using your first update. Kinda looked like a tropical version of Tron, perhaps designed by Salvador Dali?  ;)

After this little excursion into surrealism, I changed the files back to your original files and so far, the Coral Islands map has worked just fine. Any ideas (just for future reference)?

FW

wowsa...that's some pretty trippy stuff, man. ???
No, the update is basically just a bit more work on map-t and map-c, I added a lagoon and another island or 2. It would appear that something's seriously corrupted with that update - it only adds one or 2 extra textures, but nothing like that.. 8)
If the original's still working for you, then stick with that until I get version 2 done - hopefully then all will be cool!  8)

Post by: SAS~Malone on February 18, 2010, 04:50:31 AM
thanks jt...i really needed to know that.... ::)
as mentioned more than once earlier in this thread, I am busy with version 2, and am not going to bother any more with the d/l problems people are having with this. i have tested it repeatedly, and it works for some, but not for all....don't ask me why.... ???
this is the last time i'm going to repeat myself here - if it doesn't work for you, please wait for me to finish version 2, when i'll upload it at several places. i am now washing my hands of any problems encountered for this version, if anyone else feels they need to inform me of their d/l problems, i'm going to delete this thread entirely....i am tired of sounding like a stuck record player.... 8)
sorry for coming across a bit abrupt here, but I really, really, really hate repeating myslf over and over again.... :(

Number one I go thru the same thing at work running job sites day after day with over 3000 workers. Plus I read the 1st page of the thread only and liked what I seen and read nice work. I will wait.
Post by: SAS~Malone on February 18, 2010, 07:46:03 AM
ok, mate---hang in there, and i'll let you guys know when version 2 is done... 8)

once again, apologies for coming across a bit strong, but if you read the last few pages of this thread, you'll see i've been answering everyone with basically the same message. whatever's causing the corrupted d/l is a mystery to me, it works fine every time i try it.
so, everybody, let me get version 2 done, then i'll make sure it works for everyone, and upload it to several providers. RL is keeping me real busy for the next few weeks, but then i'll get right back on it.  ;)
Post by: Friedrich-Wilhelm on February 18, 2010, 09:53:52 PM
Hi Malone,

Don't worry. I really appreciate your work for the game that you share with us so freely. So, I don't mean to bug you with another plea for technical assistance. Instead, just for future reference, I would like to post the error messages I am getting when unzipping your files. I don't mean to ask you for any diagnostics, but perhaps, this information could be helpful for others who have run into similar problems. Here are the error messages

From original file v.1:

!   C:\Documents and Settings\Desktop\IL-2 Stuff\IL2PatchesandAddons\AAA Mods\Mod Maps\Coral-Islands\Coral_Islands_V1.rar: CRC failed in Coral_Tex\Coral\1600Mt_Village_A.BumpH.tga. The file is corrupt.

From update 1:

!   C:\Documents and Settings\Desktop\IL-2 Stuff\IL2PatchesandAddons\AAA Mods\Mod Maps\Coral-Islands\Coral_UPDATE_1.rar: CRC failed in Coral_Tex\Coral\JungleKTABurma_fields.tga. The file is corrupt

In any case, this is already a step up for me, because when I first tried to unzip your files (quite some time ago), they wouldn't unzip at all. Now, I could at least unzip, install and get them to work, even though I got this error message.

So, please do take your time. I will be grateful for whatever update you choose to offer to us here whenever it is ready.

Best Regards,

FW

ok, gents, I've uploaded the 2 textures that seem to be giving many of you a corrupted error.
Just put them into your Mapmods/Maps/_Tex/Coral_Tex/Coral folder, with the other textures from the original.
Let me know if there are still any errors with them.
Progress on version 2 is continuing (slowly) as I get the spare time - I'll keep you all informed of when to expext it, still a few weeks away.... ;)

that is odd, Benno...post a screenie for me, i need the laughter to help take the stress off a hard day.  ;D
obviously, there are still issues here that i have no explanation for, other than your map_ c is corrupted. i'm still on UP1.8, not on 2.0 yet, so i have yet to test it, but several other guys have it working fine on theirs.
as i've mentioned before, rather hang in there until i get version 2 done, which will be fully compatible with UP 2.0.  :D
Post by: Strider on February 24, 2010, 07:57:39 AM
~S~

I am on UP2.0n but have not been able to get this map to work in any version since the map was released. I have d/l'd the main D/L, the Update and the 2 replacement files, installed so many times I forget. I have entered the proper entry in all.ini in /mapmods/maps.

It won't load in FMB, with an error message "World (0) land (0) Coral_Islands Coral_Islands/load.ini error".

Does the Coral_Tex folder sit in _Tex or does it go in the _Tex/land or some other sub-folder?

I've installed other maps without a hitch but haven't been able to figure this one out after reading every thread on it I can find.

Would some kind soul suggest possible solutions, please? Thanks much in advance for your time and effort! I am content to wait for V. 2 but this just nags me no end.

Yeah, it would nag me too, Strider  ;)
When you load the map in FMB, and it gives that World (0)...etc error, would you then press Shift+Tab to bring up the console log.....a lot of text will appear onscreen. Check the last 4 or 5 lines, and you should find a more specific error message, normally it's a missing texture.
Let me know what it says, and i can try and help you further... ;)
The Coral_Tex folder should sit in _Tex folder, not in any subfolder of _Tex... :)

~S~, Sir!

Thank you for the quick reply!

Of course, I should have thought of checking the console for error details---DOH!

"INTERNAL ERROR: Can't open file "Maps/_Tex/forest/summer/dlv_ForestFar.tga"

I looked in _Tex/forest/summer and do not have a dlv_ForrestFar.tga file.

I have Coral_Tex in the right place.

Problem analyzed but where would I get the required file? From a dlv d/l but which one? Please and thank you for your time and effort, m8!

Ok, here's the missing file for you, mate: https://storebror.it.cx/sas/archive/sas2/Malone/dlv_ForrestFar.rar (https://storebror.it.cx/sas/archive/sas2/Malone/dlv_ForrestFar.rar)
Put it in your Maps/_Tex/forest/summer/ folder, you should be good to go.  ;)
I think I see where a lot of guys are having problems with this map with UP2.0. I originally did this based on the old UI, which had a lot of these textures included. I just copied all my textures from there into my UP install, hence i've had no hassles. Obviously they aren't all in UP, or possibly in a slightly different folder structure, hence the problems for many.
Sorry for the inconvenience, UP users, all these issues will be rectified with version 2.  8)

Thanks very much, m8!

I extracted and checked that it was in the correct place in IL-2 directory.

But now console error tells me I have no dlv_ForrestGround2.tga in the _Tex /forest/summer folder---in fact, I have nothing by dlv in that folder, only SL_xxxx. I deleted my old U.I. for the disk space or I would get them there.

Best, I think, that your time is better spent to continue to develop V.2 rather than hunt up files for me. I will see what I can find on my own. But the nag has been quelled, so it's all good, m8! I'll keep a recon for V.2, at your pace and convenience.

Thanks also on behalf of all in the community whom you spend so much time and effort to assist, as well as your modding. Not everyone posts their gratefulness (that would double the size of the forum, lol!) but rest assured it is universally heartfelt.

cool, man - you can always just use another texture in place of the missing ones, just rename it accordingly in the load.ini, if you know how...just choose another forest file, so that it dsoesn't look too out of place.... ;)

Rgr that, m8.

Now that I've done some of the water texture changes, I understand the pathway structure for textures in load.ini and the relationship to how to call them. I'm sure I can handle that.

Thanks again. Have a good 'un!

sorry, Yeager....if this version doesn't work for you, you'll have to wait until i'm done with the new version...if you go through the thread, you'll see that i am no longer going to re-upload the entire thing for every single individual who has a problem. it'd end up costing me Gigs of bandwidth, and still there'd be guys with problems.
you'll understand better if you read through the rest of the thread, but for now you'll either have to ask another member to upload it for you or something.
alternatively, and what i recommend, please wait for version 2.  ;)

if you are having errors when extracting it, you possibly have a corrupted d/l.
what exactly is the error message? i need the specific error, please...
the thing is, when i made this version, it was originally designed to run with UI 1.1 and UP, and it would be necessary to have the extra textures downloaded, as well.
this isn't mentioned, because as i have previously stated in this thread, i am not doing any more work on this old version, but will fix it all for the 2nd version.
try the same method of searching for this file, but i think you might not have this texture in HSFX.
i don't use HSFX, so i don't know what is included with it.
you could alternatively just edit the load.ini with this line, to point to a similar forest texture in your install. then, at least, the map will load, but the new texture might not look as good, or it might even look better, i don't know...
it is easy to adjust textures this way, just by editing the lines in load.ini to point to textures you have....trial and error, to find ones that look good.  :)
also, in the thread are one or two updates. have you tried them yet? because they are necessary...

NOTE to any future users of this version: I am not supporting this current version anymore. If you have issues with textures, there are simple techniques you can use to replace textures with those you have. These techniques are already explained.
Basically, you're on your own with this version. Use it to learn the map modding techniques, which are really quite simple.  :)
V2 is on the way, but still a way off.....don't ask me 'when', because i will ignore such questions. When it's done, is the answer.  ;)
