UPDATE: Aug 26, 2022 Further refinements include new forest textures and an overall boost in detail. This is the complete set of maps, with all files present, and replaces my previous release.
=============================== END OF UPDATE =================================

Get it here:

From the included, and updated, readme file:
This is yet another update on the mod I made available in April, 2022. The additional changes:
- A new set of forest textures.
- A few replacement higher resolution terrain textures.
- Other textures rescaled in the .ini entries for higher detail.
The overall result is a rather more structurally detailed map.
The contents of this mod:
- Landscape textures that are a bit more of a green hue, and a wee bit lighter.
- Forest texture set that has more structure and color.
- Darker dirt runways, as well as the roads, made a little lighter.
- Water given a more blue hue.
- Shallows texture made more bluish green.
- 2048 pixel high cloud texture with lots of sharp detail.
- All map files as originally supplied, altered where necessary. (Permits to mod all aspects.)
- A folder of Moon textures rotated so as to be much more suitable for tropical latitudes.
=============================================
I highly recommend to get my 4096 pixel PCP (Marsten mat) runway texture mod, as one of the runway objects is made specifically for this map, and is available in this thread:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,68734.0.html
=============================================
If you already have a mod containing the folder path
3do\Airfield
you can paste the folder "NGNB_Pac_Gr" into it. (this is the darker dirt runway.)
=============================================
If you already have a map mods folder (perhaps named "MAPMODS"), you can paste the "Maps" folder into it.
=============================================
If you don't already have this map in your game (such as for 4.12), add to all.ini:
New-Britain_New-Guinea_Mar-43_DT NGNB_DT/NGNB_3-43.ini
New-Britain_New-Guinea_Sept-43_DT NGNB_DT/NGNB_9-43.ini
New-Britain_New-Guinea_Jan-44_DT NGNB_DT/NGNB_1-44.ini
New-Britain_New-Guinea_June-44_DT NGNB_DT/NGNB_6-44.ini
=============================================
If your game already includes these 4 NGNB maps, in the map folder you can delete all but the 4 .ini files, thereby regaining about 130Mb of storage.
=============================================
If you already have my Rotated Moon Textures mod (available at https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=67963.0):
- Delete the folder Maps\_Tex\Moon_10, as it's in my Moon mod.
=============================================
If you do not like my rotated Moon textures, and wish to go back to the old non-rotated set:
- Delete the folder Maps\_Tex\Moon_10
- For the 4 .ini files in the map folder, change the line
Moon = Moon_10\Moon0000.tga
to
Moon = Moon\Moon0000.tga
=============================================
This work is made available to any and all, for any purpose, without restriction.

Spectacular textures mate!
-
Other than the forest cover, the original textures are retained, albeit given a bit more liveliness. And in one or two instances I altered the texture scaling by a factor of two.
As originally created, I found the overall hue of the maps to lean toward a dull muddiness.
-
I forgot to mention in the Readme file that if your game already includes the NGNB maps, the only 4 files you need keep in the map folder are the 4 .ini files. If you delete the rest you'll save roughly 130 Mb.
-
UPDATE: Apr 10, 2022 In the course of looking over some other stuff, it suddenly hit me that I overlooked the fact that I had edited my own .ini files to use my rotated Moon mod! If you have that mod you're fine. If not, you have the following three options:
(1) Download this NGNB map mod again, as I have now included the relevant folder of Moon textures.
(2) Download my rotated Moon mod, available in this thread: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=67963.0
(3) Go back to the usual Moon by editing the 4 .ini files so that the Moon load line appears as: Moon = Moon\Moon0000.tga

:( I don't know if it happens to you too, the four versions of WxTech's NGNB don't work, in the sense that they block the view from above, then I can't return to the menu and the game crashes permanently. I can only exit with Alt-ctrl-Del. What a shame ! ...
-
Does your log.lst indicate the problem?
Did you make sure about the Moon business?
-
Thank you so much WxTech!
For me, the map works without any reservations.
-
Same here. Working with no problems.
-
Terrific work. Thanks very much.
-
Beautiful textures. Many thanks for your work.
For Stanislao: Probably a problem with the Clouds2048_1.tga file. Resize it to 1024px
-
UPDATE, Aug 26, 2022. Redid a number of textures, and increased the overall detail level. The full archive has been updated. Go to the top post to download...

Hi Wxtech I cant get these new textures/maps to show in my FMB? All i get is a blank map screen and a runtime error for World Land....Landscape....."NGNB-DT/NGNB_3.43.ini etc" for each map?
I note there are no load.ini's in the download? Although the readme says you can delete them to regain 132MB?
The maps all work without your mod and the maps are listed in my all.ini?
Is there any workaround for this?
BTW Im on BAT Flashpoint
Cheers
Mick
I used the latest download from August too

WxTech,
Dl'd the latest update version of your pack and ran into a loading problem.
3 textures are missing:
Can't open file 'MAPS/_Tex/NGNB/MT3_a.tga'
Can't open file 'MAPS/_Tex/ngnb/mt3_forestground.tga'
Can't open file 'MAPS/_Tex/ngnb/forestfar.tga'
Any chance of getting a copy of those tga's?
Thanks

Doh! Idiocy strikes again! I supplied the .ini files from the day before my final update; I had re-named a couple of files, hence the discrepancy. All textures are already in your install. The correct four .ini files are all that has changed, and are now in place, and the entire, updated archive can be downloaded again from the same link in the top post.
Or you can ensure that the four .ini files look like this in the [FIELDS] section:
[FIELDS]
LowLand0 = NGNB/LL0.tga,2
LowLand1 = NGNB/LL1.tga,2
LowLand2 = NGNB/LL2.tga
LowLand3 = NGNB/NGNB_fields_simCity.tga
MidLand0 = NGNB/MD0.tga,2
MidLand1 = NGNB/MD1.tga,2
MidLand2 = NGNB/MD2.tga,2
MidLand3 = NGNB/MD3.tga,2
Mount0 = NGNB/MT0.tga,2
Mount1 = NGNB/MT1.tga,2
Mount2 = NGNB/MT2.tga
Mount3 = NGNB/MT3.tga,2
Country0 = NGNB/CN0.tga,2
Country1 = NGNB/CN1.tga,2
Country2 = NGNB/CN2.tga,2
Country3 = NGNB/CN3.tga

WxTech,
Have the new Fields entries, will test them and get back to you.
Thanks
Flamer'
-
WxTech;
Plugged in the new Fields entries and all 4 maps load and save ]thumleft[ ]thumleft[
Your "version" of the NGNB map is the one to use, it's not anywhere near as dark as
the original, a Large improvement.
Thank You for your Update.
