Title: VP Mod install questions
Post by: Bsmooth on October 14, 2021, 04:22:25 PM
I downloaded everything including the 16 parts and then put all of them in one folder. I then started a new folder called IL-2 1946 VPMOD. I copied my working version of IL-2 1946 version 4.12.2 and put it in the new folder. I then tested it and it worked. Next opened the 1st of the 7 Zip folders and extracted them into my new folder. Of course it copied them into a folder called VP Mod. I then copied and pasted this into my new IL-2 1946 VPMOD. this took forever. Maybe 20 minutes.
Then I started the VPMOD  and it worked great, with all the right splash screens. However I looked under quick missions and there were none at all, saying there might not be a quick mission folder.
Something went sideways somewhere thats for sure, so I erased almost 1 1/2 hours work and I think I need to start again. I thought the VP Mod would be easy after BAT install, maybe not. I thought the VP Mod might have more complete missions with trains and vehicles than the BAT missions.
BTW I have BAT installed already, are the CUP MOD and the BAT MOD the same ?

Hi Bruce.

You said: "I then started a new folder called IL-2 1946 VPMOD. I copied my working version of IL-2 1946 version 4.12.2 and put it in the new folder." So, did you copy the "IL-2 Sturmovik 1946" folder and its contents into the "VPMOD" folder you created, or did you copy the contents of the "IL-2 Sturmovik 1946" folder into that new one? (Either way should be okay, provided you point the first 7Zip file at the folder containing the game files.)

You said: "Of course it copied them into a folder called VP Mod". "I then copied and pasted this into my new IL-2 1946 VPMOD". You shouldn't have needed to copy anything once that process was complete. In other words, 7Zip file #1 should act just like the exe. file in the BAT install, extracting those other files where you pointed the first file. From the instructions: " . . . extarcting (sic) the first part into your game folder will automatically do the other 15 parts too."

" . . . are the CUP MOD and the BAT MOD the same ?" Only in that one is Superboy, and the other is Superman. CUP became BAT a long time ago, and while still available, is a Neanderthal version of BAT. It still kills its food with a club, and is obsolete in comparison.

Well, good luck again, Sir
And Good Hunting.

Hi Bsmooth

No mention of installing patches, did you download and add these?
Also add config entries.

Take a look at reply #5 from vpmedia.

Sigh!
He can't add patches until he has it installed. And he's having trouble with that.

G'day Bird

He did mention " Then I started the VPMOD  and it worked great, with all the right splash screens. However I looked under quick missions and there were none at all, saying there might not be a quick mission folder".

So all he has to do is install exactly the same as before, he knows it works as stated above.
Then apply the two patches.
The first patch fixes QMB problem, hopefully the one Bsmooth is having.

P.S. When's your next mission video?

Well I did it all over again, tested it before adding the patches, and then ran it again afterwards including the Conf.ini changes. It got to a splash screen and then crashed back to the desktop. I thought I was pretty careful, but not careful enough I guess. Heres my Conf.ini file, although I don't see any Dgen listed.

Hello Bsmooth,

I suspect you are flying the IL-2 in mode: OpenGL.

Please try the following:

[Render_OpenGL]

HardwareShaders=1

.                               (https://i.ibb.co/WGWRgXT/Haegar-Hau-weg-den-Humpen-cheerst.png)

Did you happen to notice the load percentage on the load screen at the time of the crash? Or did it not get past the initial splash screen? The different percentages tell what was loading at the time of the crash. Also, You have HardwareShaders=0 . So you can't get perfect settings unless HardwareShaders=1 .

GenX, I have never used VP, so if you see me say something wrong feel free to jump right in there and straighten me out. ;) I don't understand why he's having this because it sounds to me as if he's done (pretty much) everything correct.
Title: Re: VP Mod install questions
Post by: Bsmooth on October 15, 2021, 07:50:41 PM
Tried it with Hardware shaders at 1 and at 0 and the results are the same crashes at 60% loading. I do know before I put the patches in it worked, and loaded all the way.
I also used the both patches together at 1.6 GB. Maybe I should do the patches separate. I think you can download them separately.
It also means I need to start again from 4.12.2.

Hi Bsmooth

Can you look at my reply that shows the screenshot of the patches required.
Underneath there are install instructions, did you follow these eg. delete the JU-188?
Title: Re: VP Mod install questions
Post by: Bsmooth on October 16, 2021, 12:39:47 PM
Yep put the patches in and deleted the JU-188. So I have deleted all that and started over. I now have the regular 4.12.2 and have added the 16 parts that were zipped, and now unzipped them into my sort of new Folder.
I checked and it works still. Problem is at what point of adding in the patches does it go south ? I'm thinking of copying what I have so far, so I don't have to do this all again if it stops working.

I also just noticed something. There is already a mods section in the Conf.ini file. Yet in the VP Modpack release it telss you to add more MOD entries including another mods section. Would that be a reason for it to crash ?
I have this in my Conf.ini file already.

Pretty certain it's telling you what the settings should be on those entries, not that you need to add them in. In case you need to change them.
Title: Re: VP Mod install questions

I added them in and ran it and it was fine. Making a copy now of what I have that works, so I have a baseline, takes a long time.

Howdy,

Borrowing Bsmooth's thread, here, for a related problem.

I've tried for 3 days, on two different computers running Linux, and have not been able to get past the 70% loaded point with "SAS Modact" selected. They both crash back to the "selector" box at that point. If I then select "stock game", and start it again, it will load the game. I can watch ntrk videos, or I can fly with the QMB feature, but it will not start a "campaign". I can pick one, and set the parameters, but when I click the "generate" button nothing happens.

Here's a few questions:
1) Is there anybody on this forum who has successfully installed and played IL-2 1946 with the VP modpack on a computer running a Linux operating system?
2) What version of Linux were you using?
3) What version of "wine" were you using?
4) What web browser did you use to download the VP modpack files?

I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who may have some insight on this.

G’day Bruce

This is my last ditched effort, I am only repeating what’s already been said here and MANY times at SAS.
I am using VP’s install instructions and memory only, fingers crossed.

STEP 1:   Have a clean stock version of the game patched to 4.12.2.

STEP 2:   Right click on vp_modpack.7z.001 and extract directly into install folder mentioned above in step 1.
The remaining 15 zip files will automatically extract to the same location.

STEP 3:  Once all 16 zip files have been extracted go into the install folder and open the IL-2 Selector.
             Click “Change Settings”
Click “Game Type” dropdown and make sure "SAS Modact" is selected.
             Click “Save Settings”
             Click “Start IL-2 now!”

The loading screen should look like this.

(https://i.postimg.cc/YSysyjhP/VP.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/4KVPYfvv)

If the game launches and works then proceed to step 4.

STEP 4:   Open #SAS folder and delete “00_Ju-188A-2_v1.1” folder.

STEP 5:   Extract patches into game folder.

STEP 6:   Add config.ini entries at bottom of the file.

STEP 7:   Don’t know if this matters but start game via IL-2 Selector.

@genXgamer

Is it critical that you start the game once BEFORE you install the patches and the conf.ini entries? Because that's the only thing in your description that I didn't do. I never tried to start the game until after I installed the patches and the conf.ini entries.
Title: Re: VP Mod install questions

Hi tomhighway

In all honesty I do not know, I installed VP Modpack start of 2019.
I no longer have the zip files so I cannot go through the whole installation process myself.
Title: Re: VP Mod install questions
Post by: Bsmooth on October 16, 2021, 08:41:58 PM
OK I went in and unpacked all the patches to a folder and added them into the modded VP MOD folder one at a time. I think theres a #SAS folder and a Dgen folder, Mission folder and one paintscheme for a CR42.
I added one folder then started the game and ran it. I did it until I finished the last one, and it worked. I did have some issues with the mission and quick missions about folder naming, but I got that fixed as well.
This is when I am supposed to add the conf.ini files, but when I went in to my VP modded folder all the conf.ini files were the same as the ones that were supposed to be added.
Now do I need to add paintschemes/Skins ?
One other thing, it doesn't know I have a joystick, isn't there a joystick config button somewhere ?
Title: Re: VP Mod install questions

Hi Bruce

The fact that the config entries were already there tells me you deviated from my instructions at some point.
But it sounds like you have it working which is great.

Add the skinpack and skinpacks for Dgen campaigns.
This has no effect on whether the game works or not, why not add the BAT skinpacks as well.

In your config file scroll to you see joyUse= make sure it has a 1.

OK it works but... theres a QuickQMBPro, but I can't seem to use any of the missions at all, matter of fact I can really only use the regular missions that originally came with the game and thats all.
Maybe genXgamer was right and there is something still wrong.

G'day Bruce

I don't have the 10 years plus experience of dealing with user problems like most members here, but if you can provide me with more information I could probably work it out.
It might be something as simple as pressing the RESET button.
Please take a screenshot and post it.

I'm a bit confused at to whether anything under QuickQMBPro are actual missions or not. Are all of the fllowing missions I can choose to fly, and how do I actually get to them?

You load those from in the game, in the QMB menu is a button called "Load".

For instance say I chose Burma. What aircraft do I choose ? I would assume say maybe P-39 or P-40's for the allies and probably Japanese Army aircraft ?

For instance say I chose Burma. What aircraft do I choose ? I would assume say maybe P-39 or P-40's for the allies and probably Japanese Army aircraft ?
