The file is safe. It's only Microsoft's Defender and one more oddball who get triggered, and false positives unfortunately are quite a common thing for NSIS installers (see https://nsis.sourceforge.io/NSIS_False_Positives)




How do I install an update?

0. Back up whatever you need to conserve from #WAW3, #DOF3, #TGA3, JTW3
1. download all the files into one folder (make sure, this place is on your windows defender exception list!)
2. deactivate all JSGME Mods for safety
3. run the installer exe and direct the extraction into your BAT install
4. NEW! Select if you want WAW only or also DOF, TGA and JTW modules (for 4.1 installs only)
5. enjoy

note:
- the folders #WAW3, #DOF3, #TGA3, #JTW3 will be completely deleted and replaced! Make backups of material you want to preserve.


During installation, you will be asked, if you want to install just WAW or also DOF, TGA and JTW:

general:

There is an awful lot of new happening under the hood.

-New Selector v4.0.2

A new selector exe comes with this install!
Your Windows may try to protect and warn you when you launch the selector for the first time and you maybe must manually approve it for the first time.

Look into your #WAW3 folder for example and you will notoice a new folder structure. There now is only one single "BAT-classes" folder, which contains all java classes in an unhashed format. The new spec-revised EngineMod is now also completely merged into the BAT-classes.

-New BAT EngineMod!

The BAT EngineMod got a much needed update and full rework by java master Storebror and Whistler. Many fixes were written and new features were integrated. Now BAT Engine Mod has become it's own development branch with the EngineMod family - and that comes with consequences! It is as of now not only discouraged to run any other than the built-in EngineMod on BAT, but now it is practically guaranteed to cause you problems if you try. But there's no reason you have to try ;D

Stick with the BAT EngineMod! It's the best there is for your install.

It is updated, maintained and is spec-built for BAT, to cater all its integrated features, such as Mission Triggers for example.

NAVAID:

Navaid is a virtual navigator/navigation help intended for use with planes that did carry sophisticated navigation
instruments like D/F loop antennas and radio compasses, but do not have these in game.

When the player selects a radio beacon, Navaid mod emulates a navigator, who will report to the pilot bearing and
distance to the selected beacon. He will keep updating his report frequently until the player selects a different
beacon, which the navigator will then report on, or selects 'beacon: none' which will deactivate the reports. In
order for the navigator to properly receive radio signals and do his calculations (imagine him actually tuning into
two beacons and then triangulate your position) you need to be no further than 120km from a beacon, and no closer than
2.5km. Also, your altitude must be at least 150m above that of the radio beacon.

Navaid mod adds three objects to game. These need to be placed in mission builder to take effect. Also, the units will
only work when assigned to the same side as the player (Blue, Red, etc).

Navaid(km) outputs metric units, while Navaid(miles) outputs statute miles. Navaid(bearing) omits the distance
to/from a beacon and shows bearing only.

It works with any type of radio beacon, NDB, YG, YE(carrier), and blind landing beacons. Remember that a beacon needs to be assigned to the same side as the player in order to be receivable.

A whole new section for action!  --  LTA - the Lighter Than Air for the US Navy of the late 1930s.

The idea of extending the eyes of the fleet with airships, much faster than any ship, yet invulnerable to the imminent submarine scare led to some to the largest airships ever built, the USS Akron class. It even surpassed the Hindenburg in lift volume.

I started this development as a just-for-fun idea while plying around with mesh scaling. But I found interested partners to make this a proper projects. A TON of thanks to Storebror for java magic and to ZFlyer for catering my 3d wishes.


A few words on technical aspects of the mod itself

Quote
- Drones work only on one specific mother ship, they cannot be interchanged. In the aircraft list, these are sorted and you can identify which airship they belong to.
- The Akron and Macon, as any airship, had limited operation altitudes, the so-called pressure height. It's the maximum barometric altitude above which the airship would start to automatically vent gas and lose it.  The Akron-class has a pressure height of around 850m. With a special new FM feature, the airships can't be operated beyond much of that altitude.  So when building a mission, stick to 500 - 800 meters for good operations!
- Good operation speeds is between 90 and 120 km/h. 100 km/h is the best middle grounds as cruising speed. The Macon was capable of a top speed of 130 km/h
- The new airships cannot land! The gear parameters necessary for a plane of this size are not supported anymore by the base game, sorry.
- Docking works with the dock/undock key. You must assign that key.
- Docking is easy! All you have to do is to slowly move close, into the vicinity of the the docking trapeze and press the key. The game has a fairly reasonable threshold to "catch" you.

- Due to the highly integrated nature of the airships into EngineMod, and all the prerequisites for all the drones, I won't be making a stand alone for the time being.

The US NAVY Lighter-Than-Air-Force

- ZRS - USS Macon

The big scout carriers, like USS Akron and USS Macon were commissioned USN ships with a single docking trapeze under the internal hangar.
The Akron was eventually lost on April 4, 1933 with 73 hands of the 76 on board. Macon sunk on February 12, 1935 in a storm.

- Curtiss F9C-2 Sparrowhawk

The F9C-2 was a very small carrier fighter prototype, and was chosen for size. The Akron and Macon could carry four in an internal hangar and operated them mostly in a reconnaissance role. From late 1934, the aircraft were operated without landing gear over the ocean, to improve performance. You will find various loadout options with and without landing gear.

- WACO UPF-7 is also dockable and has received a skyhook loadout! It was established as a liaison trainer in 1934.

The concept of a true ZRCV floated around the BuAer from the later half of the 30s until as late as 1942. This mod is build after a BuAer design by  C. P. Burgess, that "could have been" in 1937/38. The length is 274m /898ft, volume is 270.265 m3 / 9,55 mio ft3.

With nine internal docking bays, one ship can carry half a squadron of bombers or fighters or a mix thereof.

I cleaned up the java, sorted the slots out and finished the cockpit with working instruments and some graphic touch ups. This plane never had a convincing cockpit of any kind so I put something together for this pack, based on the Ar-196T cockpit (SAS~Sani), with some additions.

- Until now, the plane was indestructible. Now it has a (very crude but working) fuselage hitbox, it can be shot at and it takes damage!

The plane is intended for use on the "Graf Zeppelin" or "Peter Strasser" (AI needs catapult)

notes and unfixed issues:
- Wingfold is not animated but after spawning on a carrier, you have to "unfold" the wings.. It was the best trade-off solution at this point.
- the spawn pattern is overlapping noses and tails. It looks a bit silly but was the best I could do at this point.
- Take off works! The aircraft is at the low speed limit for catapults so it may feel like a "bug", but AI and player can take off safely with every loadout.
- due to some pull to one side, AI can't take off without catapult. Graf Zeppelin has cats so it should be fine.
- Do not pull up hard after takeoff, the aircraft likes a very neutral initial acceleration once it goes over the ramp.
- AI can't take off from carriers without catapult due to strong pull to one side
- AI can't take off on land due to strong pull to one side
- after landing, the AI can sometimes drift to one side and fall off the deck.

The Cockpit Clipping updates

Cockpit clipping happens when the invisibility bubble around the pilot in the cockpit interferes with the external plane 3d. You will then experience gaps in the wings when you move your head for example. This is a problem with many modded planes where cockpits were taken from other existing planes. With a certain java method, the size and shape of the invisibility bubble can be modified, so this interference can be reduced or even completely avoided.
It works not always to 100% satisfaction but a lot can be improved. Sometimes a slight modification of the cockpit 3do itself is also necessary.
I tinker as I go.

BAT 4.1.2 Update

This quite big update brings new planes and quite many fixes, updates and extras. Such the ported HSFX Triggers! Set AI planes up to appear or take off when triggered. Make messages appear on screen. Make tanks move or artillery fire when triggered....



Under the hood - New basic files:

launcher .exe and dlls

With this update we are delivering a new set of base game files - a new updated launcher exe by SAS~Storebror and a new set of basic dlls by Carsmaster.

On first launch, your Windows may detect the new version of the exe and warn you about it. You will probably have to allow its launch once, so don't be alarmed.

The new set of .dlls is basically an attempt to elevate all games to one set of dlls that should provide a more robust tolerance with objects that hit or surpass the game-inherent polygon boundaries. They should also provide the same HD access for everyone with one single set of dlls.  These files are not brand new and have been around for some time as stand alone mod.

They have been in wide use for a long time without trouble and we have tested them ourselves in various setups. They have helped to solve several problem reports in Tech Help. There are no specific error reports known to us, so we are convinced they are an improvement and should therefore become standard issue.

dlls can be highly individual and work or refuse to work in combination with your drivers and hardware, as you know from the set 1 or 2 guessing game. There is only so much you can predict from the outside, other than try and test a variety of possible set ups. We think this is the best way and a safe way forward based on the information available.

The new dlls are installed automatically as default, you have to do nothing yourself!

Should you, for whatever reason, experience troubles with the new dlls, you can always track back and use the old type 1 or type 2 HD dlls which can be found in each BAT under
...\BATDOCS\BATDLLS\

The new set has been added as a copy as well, under BATDLLS-03_BAT-4096

Trigger Happy

HSFX Triggers, originally created by Catsy , now converted to B.A.T. by Whister

A long time ago, Catsy created a box full of new mission building options, now finally available in BAT:

1 – The “Apparition” Trigger allows to activate an object (in its global meaning, i.e. a group of 1 to 4 planes, a static object, a ship, an artillery gun, a group of moving vehicles etc. )
2 – The “Start-Up“ Trigger allows to activate an object (in its global meaning) already included in the mission, provided it is mobile (able to roll, navigate or fly). In the case of the “Rockets” objects (V1, V2 etc.), this trigger allows to fire them.
3 – The “Apparition Related to Altitude” Trigger uses the same principle as the “Apparition” Trigger, along with the possibility to insert an altitude variation (positive or negative) compared to the Trigger-activating plane altitude.
4 – The “Message” Trigger allows to display on-screen messages during flight, without associating it to other actions.

The ultimate seaplane. You can park a B-29 under each wing. It came much too late for any use, but what if....
I took the original imported mod by Lone Wolf and finished it with a new FM, updated the water clip system, engine hooks and a small cockpit upgrade. Damage model has shortcomings but now "the damn thing actually does fly...!"

-Zeppelins Auto Helmsman update

You can now order the helmsman to keep altitude or keep a heading by using misc #1 and #2 keys.
The automatic heading is very helpful to manage long climbs and long patrols.

Zeppelins also have slightly altered ground position, which makes "take-off" situations possible without crashing a propeller.

These modifications are available in all modules that hold Zeppelins.

Downloaded and installed on Blue Edge 4.13 and Red Core 4.12. When trying the modules of Blue Edge I notice the piston planes start in air with engines off but jets don't. This doesn't happen on Red Core. Have I missed something ? Just tried an Me262 on waw, engine off air start.

Update, uninstalled, 're-installed over Blue Edge 4.12 all working, don't know what I screwed the first time but all hunkey dory now.

It's a false positive.

The file is safe. It's only Microsoft's Defender and one more oddball who get triggered, and false positives unfortunately are quite a common thing for NSIS installers (see https://nsis.sourceforge.io/NSIS_False_Positives).

By installing 4.1 Blue Edge and then installing 4.2 on top again (using the installers of course), should work.

deactivated my (payed) Avast Virus Scanner and installed v4.2 FLASHPOINT without problems.

I read the "Install.log" and was amazed at what I found there.

How can you get so much work done in such a short amount of time?

*edit: Apparently notifications were turned off after a Windows update.
         I turned them back on and got an option box. However, even after
         I indicated that I trust the file, it still felt the need to delete the file.
         You can fix that from the "Blocked Threats" menu, actions/allow.

Installed and running nicely. Tested 4 Ki102 v 4 B17s and the cannon recoil on the Randy is awesome. Lost sound initially but okay when I rebooted the laptop.

Did you add WxTech's latest effects pack v1.2 or is that to come in the next update?

FIXED:  Had to change "JoystickDevice0 AXE_RZ=rudder" to "JoystickDevice0 AXE_RX=rudder" as the right joystick is not on a Z axis.  File is "settings.ini" in the Users folder under your profile name.


Also noticed that the squadron/group names were mucked up, seemed to use an older file that was missing a lot of names.  Thankfully, I had a backup to overwrite and get my custom groups/squadrons back in working order.  Now to figure out where to remove the pirate icons off the Generic sides...

The newest patch cleaned parts of the BAT folder, so any work you did may have been erased.  Why this is a thing, overlooked by the user or the developer, doesn't matter; It is simply frustrating.  Having to do all your rebinds is a chore, and I can't imagine larger custom jobs that could've been potentially wiped out.

As I'm sure some will have noticed, I had a problem with installing this latest update, this after several years of trouble-free upgrade installations, beginning with CUP. For what it's worth, when I was browsing for the proper destination for the installation, I stopped a step too soon. The new files did load into the proper folder on the C-drive, but it needed to go all the way to the "IL2 Sturmovik 1946" (sub)folder. I'm going to plead encroaching age. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.  8)

A short while ago, I re-installed 4.2, this time with the proper target chosen. The new upgrade works just fine, and in addition to deleting the "Tech Help" thread I'd started, I deleted all the crap that went into the wrong place in my main BAT folder during that first, misguided attempt to install.

As before, I need to thank all involved. It just gets better and better.

Hello.

I had no trouble downloading the Flashpoint installer and Part 1.  With Part 2, the download stops at 2.0 GB and restarts, but always stops at the same spot.  I am not getting any Windows Security related messages.  Any ideas with what might be going on??

Updated without a "hitch".
As per the instructions in RED, i took everything I wanted to keep from my module folders, and put them in a backup folder. While running the installer, I noticed that changes would also be made to my BATMODS folder, so I stopped the installation to go backup everything I wanted from there as well. Ran the installer again and totally enjoyed the leggy redheaded pinup girl who wants me to fly with her (anytime). Finished in just a few minutes.

Put my favorite "Can't live without" mods back in their respective folders and all is well.

I know this has been said a million times here, but the best way to avoid problems is
Read Everything. Everything I did was explained on the first page of this thread.

will save you a world of trouble. And then you won't feel the need to "text-yell" at them when

Love the way you guys cleaned up the BAT-Class folders and files!  Thank you!

Installed without a hitch and I was then able to restore my favorite modifications via JSGMEMOD.  Awesome!

My OS is window 10 Professional and I've tried downloading Flashpoint Part 2 on Edge, Chrome, and Firefox all with the same result - unable to download past 2.0GB.  I also tried to download JDownloader as suggested by vampire_pilot, on different browsers and after working around Windows Defender, I get a File Corrupt message.

I spent hours sifting through and backing up my 'must haves'. Still, all good practice. Now up and running with 4.2 and my eye candy of choice (and more than a few Gb's of precious extra disc space - I really must get around to that new-fangled external drive I've been promising myself). Thanks very much to all involved.  :)

Hi, I'm glad to see you update latest version BAT mod, this is one of my favorite. I want ot say thank you for every thing you made IL-2:1946 perfect. During I play your's MOD, I found some bugs you can fix it, mostly about Regia Aeronautica's planes.
①MC.202 and MC.202 seaplane use MC.205's instrument panel, that caused MPG failure.
②MC.202's RA 1000 RC41-1 engine have severe overheat problem, and engine thrust too low. That's seems not history, even MC.200 have better parformance than MC.202.
③G.50, MC.200, MC.202, RE.2000, RE.2001, RE.2002 low speed too unstable. Italian fix this problem in history, but this mod didn't.
④P.108B torque too strong, can't maintain the center line during takeoff without using brake. It feels not like a 4-enging heavy bomber, multi-enging planes are super stable. I guess maybe you set Vmc too high.
⑤Ba.65 engine power seems a little bit too low.

I would like to thank everyone involved in the project for the enormous amount of work put into continuous improvement of BAT.

I have a question - I do not know if this is due to BAT 4.2 or if I noticed it only now and it was like that before. Airplanes in the preview window in QMB after selecting the HD skin appear almost as quickly as after selecting the 1024 skin.
What is this merit? I wish I had that in my modded 4.13.4. I copied new dll files from BAT - but it didn't do anything.
Is it possible to extract a mod from BAT that is responsible for it?

There is no mod specifically for this but BAT has had a highly modified GUI for some time now (kudos to Whistler!).

Sorry for my outcry, was an emotional downstep.
I calmed down and think the loss was not worth the promotion,
as they were sketches of Mods, shit ones. I can't remember some,
if I can't remember it must be not worthy.

And having a freed up Game can be a fresh thing. Found most of my stuff untouched and safe in SFS,
not up to date, but it's all fine. Those can be fixed easilly.

I wish I had this loading speed in my "4.10.1 & #DBW"! Had made so many HD skins, but gave them up later because of the long loading times.

In my opinion, this loading behavior had slowed down the HD-skin option.

Please don't be angry with bk, just an expression of opinion.  ;)

I sympathize with those who had a few speed bumps with this update.  I maybe was not attentive enough to the messaging, so it's on me that it erased my add-on planes, but it also seemed to wipe out my HUD and difficulty settings, which I wouldn't have expected.  At least it didn't wipe out my controller bindings as some have reported.  I'm one of those guys who had this game set up the way I like it a few years ago and have since forgotten how to do all the settings, so it took an hour or two to get things working the way I like them again.

But I understand the need to reorganize periodically as the game continues to grow beyond all sane expectations.  I will look for ways to explore the new content.  One question, I notice a lot of new TBF/TBM Avenger variants have been added, have the flight models on these been tweaked too?  They seem to fly better than before, but it could be just me.

Anyway well done and thanks for the continued transformation of this game.

richtig mit meinem neuen Stick zu beschäftigen und hier mal alles zu konfigurieren.

Ist eine gewaltige Umstellung vom X52 zum Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog.
Beliebte Knöpfe muss ich mir nun vom Stick auf die Tastatur legen, aber ich finde für mich nicht die
Lösung. Noch schlimmer ist aber, ich kann es mir nicht merken.

 BAT 4.2  Flash Point Patch is fantastic.  It took me about 1 1/2 hours to download it last night.  The only problem was getting part 2 to start. After the 3rd cancel of the download the fourth try worked and was completed  in about 45 minutes.  Even some of my oldest Jet War mission files now work. The graphics look like super wide screen. Maps Iran and Iraq now work. I now have to rebuild some missions ( they still work ) due to uninstalled objects by this latest patch.  You are workers of creative art and graphic magic.  Thank you .

Look for a file called "rcu" (without file type/extension) in your game folder.
If you find a line "@fps START SHOW", remove it.

I think only one test bed p-51 was ever "navalized" so it wouldn't make much sense to do work on that model seeing as how only one was made and it never progressed any further. I guess for a "what if" plane it might be cool but I could think of a lot of more interesting planes Id love to see done first.

What you said is very true. In this new patch, if you were to use the WAW mod, and scroll to the '1946_GB_USA' section (Almost to the end of the plane list), you will see the FO-2 (P-38T), a navalized P-38, which never made it pass the drawing stage. Hence, this suggestion of mine.

With that said, there are lots of planes that the warring nations developed (pre-WW2, WW2, Cold War), with some being prototypes, while others are drawings. Let's see what the developers can come out with.

Nevertheless, it just keeps getting better and making such a classic game enjoyable   :)

Since 4.1.2 I've been seeing this on the FW190's from time to time in QMB, it go's away if I toggle between the gun sight view but its a bit annoying. I don't see this in any other modded game.

I think I remember where this old ghost comes from :)

It is not a BAT problem, it comes from the time when the bottom of the Revi gunsight was obstructed by the frame of canopy.

When modifying this years ago, I do not remember if it was a mod or it was an original Oleg patch, probably the first thing, that ghost was left, which you remove as you have said.

This screen shot was from the vanilla FW 190A-8 but It doesn't happen every time QMB loads, its kinda random. I've also seen it in the D13 as on the image below. I don't have any mods in the WAW folder or JSGME.

Hi bomberkiller, I'm an old man myself but sorry about that  :) I was trying to be cautious with the image size as the original seemed to be too large (2560x1440).

 Question I have an old problem with the MI-24 Hind. Mi-24  is doing back flips, also driving backward after starting the engine. I have all the latest  BAT upgrades. I did not have this problem with the HIND in 412.2m.  I have read the helicopters posts more than once. I know this problem was solved in the past.

Question I have an old problem with the MI-24 Hind.

There is a great variety of classes and Flighmodels for the Mi-24 out there. All built by various people on the very same slot (I think there also are variations of loadouts too iirc).  And you can't simply cross one with the other without doing colateral damage.
There has been discussions in this thread (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,63876.msg724842.html#msg724842) a while ago. Tastes differ.
Anyway, the layout in BAT has been made by Vega in 2018 and has been unchanged ever since. It's a case of "it is what it is" at this point.
You can always experiment with external additions on your own, it just might have side effects in other slots.

Put 4 blue KM trawlers into a circle and a camera nearby. Nothing happens.
Make one of them red, the shooting starts.

Really thank you for this update which adds so many things like Zeppelin aircraft carriers, the last time I saw a game with zeppelin aircraft carriers was Crimson Skies

I noticed that the vapor effect of aircraft carrier catapults is not present, the effect was present thanks to the "SAS Engine Mod" I have read the notes of the new pack 4.2 which now includes BAT EngineMod . I tested a workaround that seems to be working I haven't seen any BUG or Crash

skin pack 4.1 contains skins for DOF, TGA and JTW planes, as the desciption suggests. If you do not have the modules installed, these skins are meaningless to you.

Was there an erro in which the old one was put in my mistake. Also, ranwers revised one has a dark skin by default and the old one has a light gray hellenic skin. Anyone else notice? The Ranwers Mirage is not and never was in BAT at all!
Don't be misled by entries.

The reason is, this plane has a problem on take off (extreme shaking and jerking) that hasn't been addressed yet. I was hoping to integrate it once this is fixed but nothing has happened in a long time. right now the Bison_M Mirage 2000 is in BAT, as has been stated in the publication thread.

You guys amaze me.  Your tenacity and love for the IL-2 1946 franchise is incredible!  And it looks sooo good!  I also fly Cliffs of Dover/Tobruk, and IL-2 Great Battles, but IL-2 1946 BAT X still competes, and I don't feel like I'm taking a step back to fly what I can only fly in IL-2 1946 due to its incredible breadth and modern features!

Great update Vampire et al! Many thanks for the Xmas present! As Lars mentioned, he and I are working on a Greek campaign that uses the Bloch 151. We were using the 152 as a stand-in but now we have the right model in time for our release. Fantastic! The number of different aircraft you have added to this game is amazing.

Can't seem to get it to work, and I've never had a problem before...
Installer fails saying that the second part is damaged, tried reinstalling both installer and zip part to no avail

installer log tells me this;
Checking File BAT-v4.2_01.zip
BAT-v4.2_01.zip is okay!
Checking File BAT-v4.2_02.zip
BAT-v4.2_02.zip is damaged!
Checksum should be: af2f9fed
Checksum is       : error
Errors occured, aborting installation!
Creating Installer Logfile

if anyone could give me a hand I'd be much obliged  :)

Checksum error usually means this zip is not present in the same folder as the installer.
A just damaged zip would give a wrong checksum but you got none at all.

Problem Resolved!

Apparently if you have a similar problem to me, that being a part of the install not being recognized by the installer, do a quick restart and redownload the whole thing, worked a treat.

This archive can be opened to see (only see) its contents.
If you can't do this, it's because :
- you have an Internet connection problem, try loading this archive again... again... again...
- you have a problem with the archiver you are using!
Personally I use the "7z" archiver !
