Next Gen PAL (NG-PAL) Mod v1.2

PAL is your new IL-2 companion. The name is also in homage to the original creator of the "Walking Pilot" mod, benitomuso or Pablo, aka P.A.L. Credits to benitomuso for his amazing initiatives. Special thanks to Storebror for having found the way of making this mod self-contained, independent of EngineMod.

I have been toying with this mod for a few years now although I wasn't sure I would have ever published anything. Thing is, as nice as the WalkingPilot is, there wasn't much you could do with it. Besides, the code to hijack other aircraft is buggy. The first decision I took was to get rid of this code: you no longer can jump into any plane other than yours. Truth is it was very difficult to hijack a different plane: shortly after a mission starts all planes are airborne and planes disappear after landing.

Here is my take.

If you eject in the air your plane is a lost cause but when you eject on ground or at sea (including aircraft carriers), you can jump out and back into your plane as many times as you like and for as long as the plane is in good condition but remember this: your plane remains vulnerable at all times! park it in a safe place...

Take the mod seriously or not, up to you.

If you choose to be an adventurer you can land your plane and explore a village, take or deliver "the goods" (whatever your mission is), or follow the path to the hidden temple and look for the lost idol... if you make it back home, you will have a story to tell!

You can alternatively choose to become a super-soldier:

PAL can run faster than bullets...

Whatever path you choose remember that PAL is vulnerable.

Other considerations:
You can control PAL with the following keys:
Special keys and combos:
(If your keyboard has an AZERTY layout set the conf.ini setting ngPALkeyboard=1 and use Z/S/Q/D/Z+S/A/E respectively)

And yes, you can control PAL during the freefall 8)

Please note if you switch to another actor (external views) you can find PAL with SHIFT+F2. The following settings must be enabled/disabled for PAL to work properly:

[DISABLE] Difficulty > Views > No Friendly Views
[ENABLE] Setup > Misc Settings > General > Show Paratroopers in External Views

G'day Whistler

This doesn't directly relate to this mod, are you able to make a standalone refuel and rearm mod from VisualMod9?

I asked Pablo a year or 2 ago if he could expand this feature so players had the option of refuel only or rearm only.

I'd rather fly several short missions with their own goals and stories than a three hour-long mission where I have to land three times. Regardless, someday... perhaps.

Would it be possible to add an anti-aircraft machine gun? With rockets it is very difficult to shoot down planes.

That's the key. Modders work hard to produce compelling and historically accurate mods and I hope nobody gets offended.

Hi Alien_12,

Refuel and Rearm... perhaps a few gallons and an extra magazine someday, I haven't decided yet.
 
Repair and and switch planes: ]nono[

What the original code does is to (1) destroy the aircraft you are switching to and then (2) spawn a brand new plane in the exact same spot and with similar characteristics as the original. All this happens in a split second thanks to a convoluted code that will never work 100% right because of the wild ecosystem of mods we have. Hats off to benitomuso for being this ambitious but I am not going down that rabbit hole.

For what is worth, with NG-PAL your own aircraft remains 100% genuine throughout the whole mission.

Hello and thank you whistler  for a very cool and fun enriching mod, in my opinion.
I'm glad that you wanted to take this difficult work, but would it be possible to do something to be marked with some icon after leaving the plane, no matter what.
After a long run on the map, some of them are very extensive, I lose track of where I am, ha ha, I know it's funny, but what to do. :D

This mod is absolutely fantastic lol
Brings a new viewpoint to the game
And the rockets ability was a nice touch
Endless fun

Works on HSFX7

Edit: Okay, shooting a bunch of rockets straight up and then pretending I'm under heavy artillery fire is my new favorite minigame lol
And don't forget trying to snipe attacking japs in the pearl harbor AAA mission ;D

But how did you use a flashlight?

Would it be possible to make the game not grow as the pilot ejects, as that lowers the score, it counts as an ejection  :-[

You are the wind beneath my wings...

If there was a way to switch planes without spawning a new plane, that would be interesting... say, you are a spec ops operative and you run into an airfield with a couple a few planes to choose from... that kind of thing.

You know how people are... always asking for more... here is a personal wishlist:
* Switching to other caliber guns, to fight infantry...
* Jumping
* Some aim point
* Display of direction in degrees that pilot is facing... and possibly an icon in the map... since it is not meant for realistic or online settings anyway... although having the capability to have online pilots fighting each other on the ground and possibly destroying your oponent's plane would be a riot... just saying.

I tried blowing up a bridge or buildings... is that possible?  Also, being able to cross water, walk on any ship and sound effects are BRILLIANT!

But I super appreciate this, really.
