Title: Poland_1939 Map update - released - updated March 31, 2023
Post by: vonOben on May 30, 2021, 11:57:46 PM
Poland_1939 Map update

This is an update for the Poland 1939 map made by Uzin:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,42327.0.html

It's an update patch, so it requires the original Poland_1939 map including the patch.
A link to the latest patch is here: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,42327.msg556390.html#msg556390
It also requires the Poland_1944 map by Uzin, with the latest patch applied.
A link to the latest patch is here: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,45693.msg597159.html#msg597159

I've been working on this update on and off since September 2016 and it includes the following improvements:
-All generic objects removed and replaced on all generic towns.
-Added objects to all the suburbs and small towns that previously had no objects at all.
-Added objects to the fields. To keep the actors static on a manageable size I've only populated the fields close to airfields and most of the towns.
-Increased number of objects from 349322 to 865346, which is 516024 more objects.
-Improve road connections and road layout and some historical corrections.
-Improve rail connections and rail layout and some historical corrections.

Non generic towns (Breslau, Krakow, Lodz, Lublin, Poznan, Warszawa):
-Removed or moved interfering objects.
-Removed or moved trees from railroads, streets and roads.
-Improved the objects placement, so they match the terrain textures better.

-load.ini changes:
[WORLDPOS]
CAMOUFLAGE = DESERT
changed to
CAMOUFLAGE = SUMMER

Water    = water/PacificWater.tga
changed to
Water    = water/Water.tga

-texts.txt changes:

Extract with "Use folder names" enabled to your Mods folder (#SAS, #WAW3 or whatever is valid for your Il2 installation) or extract the files to a temporary folder and copy the new files to your original installation of the Poland_1939 map and overwrite the original files.

-Note for BAT users:
In BAT 4.0 the object buildings.House$SSP is missing, but is included in BAT 4.1.1 and later.
The "buildings.House$StoneWall2" is missing in BAT 4, but it's included in the Poland_1939 patch available here:

Ok, but have you followed the instructions in the top of the IL-2 page:
Download instructions: If you want to download a file, click on the underlined heading for that download!

Can you describe in detail what the problem is?

I tested a minute ago and the download worked fine.

vonOben - great job! Thank you very much.
In my opinion, I found better city textures. I don't know whose authorship they are. If you see fit - maybe join the next map update.

Thank you, Kelso.  :)

Where did you find those textures?
Title: Re: Poland_1939 Map update - released
Post by: Kelso on June 02, 2021, 05:04:48 AM
I found them on my HDD in the Poland 1939 map. I can't remember - where I got it from.
Title: Re: Poland_1939 Map update - released
Post by: vonOben on June 04, 2021, 04:26:07 AM
The textures Kelso posted looks nice IMHO, and can be dropped in the _Tex\uzin\Poland\summer folder overwriting the old files.

But the objects on the map doesn't match the new textures very well and to look it's best they need to be re-arranged.

I'm not going to do it right now - because of map building fatigue - but possible in the future.

Hi

Poland_1939 Map updated to v.2.

Changes in v2:
Moved/removed some missplaced objects.
Corrected two towns in texts.txt to their appropriate names in 1939.
Added road between Lublinek and Czestochowa.

I found out that the textures posted by Kelso above is included in vpmedia's Poland re-textured version available here:
https://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads3&file=details&id=2661

It's a pity that I didn't find that download earlier :( , but this update works rather well together with vpmedia's re-textured version IMHO.
To use this update with those textures simply remove the _Tex folder and also the load.ini file in this update.

Hello Von Oben, or to anyone in the community passing by.
Im having a problem after installing this update over the Poland _1939 map.
(Just wanting to toy about on the map using Full FMB).
I'm unable to load it, getting a return to desktop with a log error message of ...java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
   <<no stack trace available>>
I have increased the ram in The selector to 1024.
I checked and there's no problems editing other maps.
Any help/advice greatful, Thanx Martin@OLD_DAD.

Hi OLD_DAD

Do you mean mission building in FMB or editing the map itself in the unlocked FMB (map builder)?

When creating missions in FMB with my version of the Poland_1939 map I don't have any memory error when using Balanced setting with 512MB.
When I did the edits on the map in unlocked FMB using Balanced setting with 1024 MB  I got the memory error, but I found that Conservative setting with 1152MB worked well. On my system (32 bit Windows XP) I couldn't start IL-2 at any higher memory setting.

I hope it helps.

Best regards

Yes, I meant map editing in full FMB.
I re installed map from scratch too. Added both of the patches (from 2016 and your most recent from this year 17/10/21).
I also tried out what you said regarding the VP re textured map, adding your update minus the _Tex file and the load.ini file.
I still get CTD with the same java mem error in the log file.
Sounds rubbish I know it'll probably be something obvious but frustrating non the less.

Have you tried the Conservative memory setting and selecting more than 1024MB in the Selector?

There are many objects on that map, so you need to increase memory until it works without memory error!

Hi..I'm trying that but my PC (and my gaming laptop) is telling me that higher than 1024 is in dangerous territory as far as the RAM is concerned.
Yes I guess there are now too many objects for it to handle.

Ok.. I've upped the RAM 1280..and set Conservative....and hey it's working...do I have to set RAM in specified increments? ie in blocks of . Say 256..

I usually use increments of 128MB, but I don't know if it's really needed.

Hello vonOben, Thank you for the latest update 8), really good to hear that something else can be added to this map or improved, I am sure that every update increases the playability of this map,
I have included below (as a curiosity, not a request (although I would like to :P ;)) a couple of photos of the Kraków- Rakowice airfield and the adjacent Fort Pszorna and Fort 12 Luneta Warszawska.

Hi Piotrek

Thanks for the info about the Kraków forts!
But they were not used in 1939?

To get the forts accurate I would need new 3D models for them, but I could add forts similar to the ones Uzin placed around Poznań.

What do you think?

Hi vonOben,

I think the addition of the Poznan Forts is a very good idea 8).

As for the Krakow Forts, they were built around 1850 and were still in use in 1939, but unfortunately I have not been able to find what purposes they were used for,

Bastion IVa Luneta Warszawska was a Gestapo prison during the occupation,
I have not been able to find much more about Fort Pszorna, actually only that it was destroyed in the 1950s due to road construction.

P.s.    I don't know about adding objects to maps, but when it comes to these two Forts, you could use, for example, the objects of the Lviv Forts? :-|:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JbgxozkH_Q9SP-aLQaPQPU6T2EG-31RQ/view?usp=sharing

Thanks to the author of these objects 8).

I've tested using the Poznań forts for Fort Pszorna and Fort 12 Luneta Warszawska, but that didn't work well since they are much to big and looked weird around Kraków.
And I couldn't find other suitable 3D models to build the forts with to get an acceptable appearance.  :(

I have edited my post #29 to provide a link to the Lvov Forts facilities, perhaps it would be possible to use one of these facilities, if that fails, well not everything can be done,
you have done a great job with these corrections, Thank you very much and I appreciate the effort you have put into this.

Perhaps some "building_maker" could build it, for example Mission Bug was so kind and created some armenian churches upon my request ?
