NEW UPDATE   BAT v4.1.1

HO, HO, HO!

BAT 4.1.1 Update

This is not just a patch, this is a veritable update, which brings you an tonandahalf of new content, along with a huge amount of fixes and improvements. I did a lot of work on cockpits for this. As some wise man once said, that's where we spend most of the time in this game after all.

Requirements:

You need to have a working BAT v.4.0 Red Core or BAT v4.1 Blue Edge

One update to rule them all....

BAT v.4.1.1 is one update package which will fit any install, be it v4.0 Red Core or v.4.1 Blue Edge.
Former BAT v4.0 users will not gain access to any other era than WAW  with this update. So if you thought about expanding to all eras with BAT v4.1 (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,65027.0.html), now - before installing this update - would be the ideal time  :)

Downloads:
(two parts, for size)

BAT_4.1.1_Update.part1.exe (https://www.mediafire.com/file/4hcrbw3mzgcxpcc/BAT_4.1.1_Update.part1.exe/file)
BAT_4.1.1_Update.part2.rar (https://www.mediafire.com/file/ghwfp049kfj71un/BAT_4.1.1_Update.part2.rar/file)

How do I install an update?

1. download the files into one folder
2. deactivate all JSGME Mods for safety
3. run the exe and extract into your BAT install
4. enjoy

note: A new set of .ini files will usually be delivered. So any changes you may have made yourself previously will get deleted.

general:

- Tow Target & Message updates - mace
- WxTech's 40m square palm plantation block object
- BATv4 Carrier Ops Consolidation (dogfight / muliplayer fix by Whistler)

- "Radio Ga Ga"  mod by Whistler
Enables Radio stations and beacons even if Music is turned off in the game settings. It effectively separates in-game radio from the general menu music feature!
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,65518.0.html

maps:

- Nordsee summer + winter fix - Waggel/Mandril
- Truk 44 - Lonestar67
- Taiwan Strait - CountZero

To improve usability on smaller screens, I have separated some long map lists:
* Eastern Europe and Russia * now comes on two parts and  * ASIA * and *PACIFIC * become two map sections. Asia is basically continental Asia, Japan, New Guinea... ; Pacific is the islands and everything else.

Originally posted by Edlor three years ago, this fantastic Cub pit was never finished and the Cubs had ongoing conflicts in BAT. I cleaned up the java, sorted the slots out and finished the cockpit with working instruments and some graphic touch ups. Now you have a cub with skis, one with floats and a tundra big wheel cub along the regular one.
I hope you enjoy it.

- Fi-167 reworked
This plane never had a convincing cockpit of any kind so I put something together for this pack, based on the Ar-196T cockpit (SAS~Sani), with some additions.

- Until now, the plane was indestructible. Now it has a (very crude but working) fuselage hitbox, it can be shot at and it takes damage!
- opening canopy from inside view
- working hook
- dedicated FM
- Bonus: more loadouts, including a torpedo, and a few basic skins.

The plane is intended for use on the "Graf Zeppelin" or "Peter Strasser" (AI needs catapult)

Quote
notes and unfixed issues:
- Wingfold is not animated but after spawning on a carrier, you have to "unfold" the wings.. It was the best trade-off solution at this point.
- the spawn pattern is overlapping noses and tails. It looks a bit silly but was the best I could do at this point.
- Take off works! The aircraft is at the low speed limit for catapults so it may feel like a "bug", but AI and player can take off safely with every loadout.
- due to some pull to one side, AI can't take off without catapult. Graf Zeppelin has cats so it should be fine.
- Do not pull up hard after takeoff, the aircraft likes a very neutral initial acceleration once it goes over the ramp.
- AI can't take off from carriers without catapult due to strong pull to one side
- AI can't take off on land due to strong pull to one side
- after landing, the AI can sometimes drift to one side and fall off the deck.
- damage box is fuselage only.

vampire_pilot's lil' fixes:

- Ar-196 cockpit unification and small update
- P-61 cockpit update (Northrop emblem, variometer fix)
- J9N Kikka cockpit update (position)
- A6M Zero family cockpit graphics unification (no more mix of old stock graphics and repaints!)

The Cockpit Clipping updates

Cockpit clipping happens when the invisibility bubble around the pilot in the cockpit interferes with the external plane 3d. You will then experience gaps in the wings when you move your head for example. This is a problem with many modded planes where cockpits were taken from other existing planes. With a certain java method, the size and shape of the invisibility bubble can be modified, so this interference can be reduced or even completely avoided.
It works not always to 100% satisfaction but a lot can be improved. Sometimes a slight modification of the cockpit 3do itself is also necessary.
I tinker as I go.

Here is a list of cockpits I modified in this package in regards to fixing clippings:

- Avro Anson (my "Patient Zero")
- Miles Magister
- L-5
- He-115
- Bf-108
- Hurricane family
- CR.32
- TBF Avenger family
- SB2C Helldiver family
- Hudson/Ventura/Harpoon family
- Boeing Stearman
- Fokker T.V
- AT-9 Jeep
- UC-78 Bobcat
- Electra 10
- Beechcraft 18

Thanks to Mike for pointing the function out to me in the first place, thanks to asura for explaining the values in more detail.

This is the extent of the new .INI file.  should there be more settings contained in this?

Thank you Vampire and team for your continued work on BAT.
I installed this update into my working 4.1 and it works fine although the opening screen now states 'B.A.T. v4.1.1 Module World at War' rather than Blue Edge v4.1.1.

I installed into my working 4.0 but that also states 'B.A.T. v4.1.1 Module World at War'  rather than say Red Core v4.0.1. On loading a QMB with Fokker T.V it showed me pink aircraft and crashed. I followed your instructions, disabled Jsgme before installing, then extracted to the Red Core directory. I tried both BDDLL-1 and -2 in Jsgme but both gave me a pink T.V. What did I do wrong.

What a wonderful first update for the streamlined BAT v4. The first of many to come, no doubt. Thanks for the devotion and the dedication, Vampire.

I installed into my working 4.0 but that also states 'B.A.T. v4.1.1 Module World at War'  rather than say Red Core v4.0.1.

BAT packages follow a sequence: 4.0, 4.1 and now 4.1.1. You can skip version 4.1 if you are only interested in WW2 content and it is perfectly fine to install 4.1.1 on top of your 4.0 but whenever you install a package you will get that version.

This is a great update - thank you.
I just had to relearn this Carrier Take Off bug fix:  when jumping from JTW back to WAW you need to hit the "Reset" button in QMB before flying a mission after switching modules.
WAW was dumping my plane into the water for the carrier take off on a Coral Sea QMB scramble ... (I had earlier flown a QMB scramble for JTW...) :-[

I found this log entry and the light finally came on (I had seen this before and it has nothing to do with BAT updates):
"Mission error, ID_04: java.lang.RuntimeException: Weapon set 'GAttack:_4xAim9+2xLAU32+3xCBU24+2x370gal_Droptank+1xAN/ALQ-131' "
Hope this helps others who may see this!

Reloaded and Fokker TV no longer pink. It must have been my faulty install first time round.
Questions to Whistler.
Your NgHUD3.5 is there but only has speed and height but no longer map reference. Is this correct?
Also is NgHUD automatically part of BAT4 now or do players still have to install it?

No. Weird. Post a screenshot.

NG mods aren't included in BAT. You must install them separately.

You haven't disabled the sector readout in your config.ini, and then forgotten about it, by any chance? e.g.

Code: [Select]
[Mods]
ngHUDsector=0

That's the sort of thing I'd do...

I checked both my 4.1 and 4.0 and don't have a 'ngHUDsector=0' read out listed in conf. The only line is NgHUDBottom=10
The NgHUD3.5 is activated by jsgme. My 4.1 runs from the main computer but the 4.0 runs from an external SSD drive.

I cross checked both conf and they tally exactly. 4.1 is as it should be with the display showing speed height and map area in white.
4.0 displays speed and height in red. I am wondering if somehow the screen resolution has changed, causing the map area to drop off sight, although I have touched nothing. I tried changing the conf line to NgHUDBottom=20 to raise the lines but no effect.

Incidentally, I just checked my 4.0 back up which I used before installing the update and it worked fine. The NgHUD print was in white and showed speed height and map area. The conf was an exact match too.

I had to install the update twice due to a file being corrupted on extraction. This time the computer told me all is okay.

So the mystery is why the NgHUD print is in red not white, and why has the map area detail disappeared.

Sorry, Whistler, I will send a print screen shortly.

Consider creating a new topic in the Tech Help section if the problem persist. Your issue has nothing to do with this update.

Hi Whistler. Problem solved.
I added the update to BAT4.0 without deactivating jsgme and it worked.

Thanks again for your work on keeping the sim going, and to all the team I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Better New Year.

Thanks for an interesting update !

Downloaded, but will install it after Christmas, as I have days off : nothing else to do in these Corona-times... so I will have time for BAT !

Just a little question : this update works like the previous ones ? I mean... it deletes WAW, TGA, JTW and DOF folders to replace them with new ones ?

Thanks in advance for kind answer, and wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for 2021, hopefully better than 2020 which is just good for history's dustbins...

No, it does not delete, just add/replace. Like the patches used to work.

Downloaded with no issue, Installed to Red Core and Blue Edge separately without any problems. Thanks to Whistler you can once again have a Home Base on a moving carrier on a dogfight map. Thank You Whistler. This means I can build a dogfight arena on a map using Uberdemons wonderful utility Uberquick, and then add Carrier homebases as well as regular spawning opponents for both sides. Played online , or even on your own they are hours of fun.

It appears not. I have the palms as a jgsme option. Disable them - back to the old skinny palms.

vampire,

I have a suggestion/request.  For the next update, please do not try to suggest installation location for the BAT update based on the IL-2 1946 Stock location contained in the Windows registry.  Here is my reasoning:

I am assuming this update installation looks for IL-2's location based on IL-2 Stock Registry information/location.

At least that is what it did to my installation.  I have all my IL-2 installations, stock or otherwise, in a non-standard directory.  Something like this:

* MyGames\Ubisoft\Il-2_46 <--- This is the Stock Installation which is in the Windows Registry (installed from legal copy of IL-2 1946)
* MyGames\Il-2_46.BAS <--- IL-2 installation up to 4.12m so that I have a version I can use for a new Mod installation like BAT
* MyGames\Il-2_46.BAT <--- Where my BAT installation is
* MyGames\Il-2_46.SAS <--- Where my SAS MODACT is

When I installed 4.1.1 I started BAT and it was the same as 4.0 and 4.1... so I decided to try the install once again...  and to my surprise the suggested installation path was "MyGames\Ubisoft\Il-2_46", which is the registry path associated with the stock install, which I (and I assume others) like to keep separate from the Modded versions, especially when you are a modder.

OK, I did not take the time to look at the small font path, so the installation originally went over the Stock installation, basically killing it, because there is no uninstallation option for the 4.1.1 update (that I could find at least).  It was a semi-minor annoyance, that caused my wife to leave the room and go upstairs...  well, we had a huge snow storm today, so there was no other place for her to go... frankly I am amazed she has not left me yet (due to IL-2... yep...).  (Actually my sweetie let me know she was not mad at me... ha ha).

I hope this is not being too picky but since here we preach installing IL-2 versions in the non Windows standard program installation directories (Program Files(x86) and Program Files), which are typically associated with Windows registry, it would make more sense to have our mod installations not look for a registry location.  I think many of us have multiple installations and we try to keep them separated... (like The Offspring Song).

Just a recommendation/suggestion.  I know I'll get some negative replies, but keep in mind, even experienced modders and people who have been around in the IL-2 world for a while... we are old... sometimes we don't read the fine print... because it is in small font.

Please and Thank you.  1000x Smiley faces so that people know I am not trying to cyber-bully/troll... and also because people love smiley faces.

Yes. You must download at least BAT 4.0 before installing this update. Because you have BAT 3.8.5, it is strongly recommended that you also install BAT 4.1 between 4.0 and 4.1.1 so that the DOF, TGA, and JTW modules are also updated, as 4.0 only applies to the WAW module.
Title: The .RAR file thing

So, what exactly do i do for the .RAR file? Is it just drag and after copy and pasting all files using WinRAR or did i screw something up?
Title: Re: B.A.T. v4.1.1 UPDATE
Post by: FL2070 on January 10, 2021, 02:01:42 PM
If you used the EXE along with the RAR, everything is done. The installer takes care of everything.

With the .rar, 7zip throws this error:
Code: [Select]
1 Data error: BAT03B\WAW3DO32.SFS
WinRAR extracts this file fine. This is the only error with a 7zip extraction, all else works well.

If you continue to use compressed archives in future updates, might I suggest experimenting with other formats i.e. .zip? It could help with these compatibility issues.

Hi Stinger,

You don't need to do any extracting. Once the first part [BAT_ (whatever update).exe] is run it brings in all the other .rar files and sorts the whole thing.

All we guys have to do is download the full set and make sure it's pointed to our personal BAT setup.

I think you should check the downloads - they are not always obvious when they have not come through completely.

Hope this helps

Matz

Hello guys, I have now completed the complete replacement of my older B.A.T. version to the new downloads to bring it up to V4.1.1 standard and all seems to have installed correctly and so far no major issues detected. 8)

Thank you very much to all involved, really appreciated.  ;)

Just a problem with the FW-58W I already posted a fix for some time ago:

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

I'm trying to update to BAT 4.1.1 after D/L from Mediafire.
Extracting to my BAT files but then get highlighted in the following:

BAT_4.1.1_Update.part1.exe
Cannot create BATDOCS\BAT 4.1.1 credits.pdf
Cannot create BATDOCS\BAT v4.0 - v4.1 credits.pdf
Cannot create BATDOCS\BATDOCS\BAT_4.1.1_ships.pdf
Extracting from BAT_4.1.1_Updatepart2.rar

The extraction stops at Extracting PaintSchemes

A pop up box then states
"Some files could not be created. Please close all applications, reboot Windows and restart this application".

Any help with this conundrum would be appreciated.

BTW, I've installed in their correct order:
Linebacker
Pathfinder
Musketeer
Angels High

Any help much appreciated, B9

Most certainly you did not.

All of the above is outdated and not available anymore for half  a year now!
(And on top of that, the order you give was wrong even then...)

You have to start again with installing BAT v4.0 and up

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,66170.0.html

But having said that, your problem as you describe has nothing to do with this fact.
Always use the .exe to install. Do not use winrar or something to unpack the .rar archive alone. That does not work like that with a 2 volume self extracting archive and is unnecessary. All steps are described, do't do anything that's not described.
