B.A.T. v4.0 "RED CORE" - The World At War pack

Introduction - What is BAT?

See existing post! (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,63246.0.html)

BAT v4 is the new one-stop-shop to get the latest and biggest modpack for Il-2.
It also works as a your backup in case you want to reinstall at some point.

BAT v4 replaces all previous packages, expansions and patches!

So get it and save it for backup. BAT 4.0 + 4.1 also saves you 20 Gig of hard-drive space in comparison to a collection of all the old BAT 1.0 - BAT 3.8.5 packages because surplus material has been eliminated from the download.

But there's something new:

Up until now, BAT was always a big one-in-all install from the outset: DOF, TGA, WAW and JTW era modules in one download and installer package.

BAT 4.0 contains all the common data and the WAW module only.
• WAW - World At War contains all the planes, ships and vehicles for the WW2 era. More than 1250 planes and countless objects, vehicles, ships...

If you want to have the other eras (DOF, TGA & JTW), and therefore have the full BAT, you must download and install BAT 4.1 after 4.0.

**************************************************************

Requirements

You must have a valid, purchased copy of IL-2 1946!

BAT has been developed to work on IL-2 1946 v4.12.2 (International version)
This version is recommended as base.

1) Get it

If you have IL-2 4.07, 4.08, 4.09, 4.10 (GOG (https://www.gog.com/game/il_2_sturmovik_1946)) or 4.11, install the SAS Mega Patch (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=38443.0) first.

Steam (https://store.steampowered.com/app/15320/IL2_Sturmovik_1946/) users can get the vanilla 4.12.2 from the "Beta" section in Steam. Alternatively, you can downgrade your IL-2 with the Unpatcher (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,55464.0.html).

2) Move it

IL-2 1946 is standalone and can be installed anywhere and be moved or copied to any location, including external drives, but you should avoid Windows-protected folders: Move or copy your IL-2 folder outside of the Windows "Program Files" path, in example to C:\Games\IL-2 BAT

3) Configure it

The file conf.ini is located in the IL-2 folder. Copying over your old one should do the trick. Likewise your User folder for your previous keymapping. CONF.ini needs to be right with B.A.T. Here is an example with Sound setup properly and Graphics maxxed out. If need be you can de-tune the graphics a bit, add texcompress etc, to speed it up.

Here is a good thread explaining those settings: http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=9756.0

This part requires your own personal screen settings:

[window]
width=1920 - Whatever yours is
height=1080 - Whatever yours is

Here is an example of a good universal CONF.ini;

Here is another CONF.ini, slightly de-tuned to be easier on performance, but still looking very good. Some particularly like 'Forest=2', because on some maps Forest=3 will cause trees to spawn on the runway!

Setting up your NVIDIA graphics card (or other, it's an example) for best display, like anti-aliasing and such, which you can't directly set in the game's conf.ini - IL-2 engine is quite old, remember?

DSR Factors = Off
Anisotropic filtering = 16x
Antialiasing - FXAA = Off
Antialiasing - Setting = 8x
Antialiasing - Gamma correction = On
Antialiasing - Mode = Override any Application Setting
Antialiasing - Transparency = Multisample
Preferred Refresh rate = Highest Available
CUDA - GPUs = All
Triple buffering = Off (This depends, you might want to set it to "on" if you experience tearing or micro-stutters if using a monitor without G-Sync)
Power management mode = Prefer Maximum Performance
Optimize for compute performance = Off
Maximum pre-rendered frames = 3
Monitor-technology = G-SYNC (only if available)
Multi-Frame Sampled AA (MFAA) = Off
OpenGL-rendering GPU = Auto
Texture filtering - Anisotropic sample optimization = Off
Texture filtering - Negative LOD bias = Clamp
Texture filtering - Quality = Quality
Texture filtering - Trilinear Optimization = On
Vertical sync = Fast (try other modes if you aren't satisfied...)
Pre-rendered VR-Frames = 1

BAT 4.0 Installer: BAT-v4.0_Installer.exe (http://www.mediafire.com/file/nwz7gapk1o8kxt3/BAT_v4.0_RED_CORE_Installer.exe/file)

Alternatively, use the torrent:

BAT 4.0 Torrent: BAT-v4.0.torrent (http://www.mediafire.com/file/mzk64mj815w9fjj/BAT_4.0_RED_CORE.torrent/file)

Install BAT 4.0

Place the zips and the installer in the same location and run the installer. Point it to your IL-2 folder.

Warning! The installer will delete the folders below and replace them with new content:
#DOF3, #TGA3, #WAW3, #JTW3, #DOF2, #TGA2, #WAW2, #JTW2,
BAT00, BAT01, BAT01B, BAT02, BAT02B, BAT03, BAT03B, BAT04, BAT04B

If the installation is successful you can launch BAT from the IL-2 Selector.

One last step: HD DYNAMIC LINK LIBRARIES - BATDLLS-01 OR BATDLLS-02?

Make sure you have the right HD DLLs for the HD True Colour Mod used in some areas. The HD True Colour Mod is used throughout the modern Il-2 simulator and has an immediate effect on many items if you do not have the correct DLLs for your setup.

There is no 'right' answer, it's BATDLLS-01 for some people and BATDLLS-02 for others.

The easiest way to check which you need: Launch World At War and go look at the Avro Lancaster in the QMB Preview Window. If it looks normal you are good to go. If you cannot see it, or if its a hideous naked mole rat pink you need the other DLLs, go install BATDLLS-02. If that does not help, try BATDLLS-01.

Here's a list of aircraft which are able to tow glider or targets in BAT WAW

From stock game:
C-47 and all DC-3 variants
Pe-8
He-111
Bf-110
D3A

BAT specific as of 3.8
Lysander TT  (intended for aerial target)
TBD-1          (intended for aerial target)
A-25 Shrike  (intended for aerial target)
Ki-46 Recce  (intended for aerial target)
Caproni 210  (intended for aerial target)

BAT specific as of 3.8.2
Avro Lancaster III    (intended for Hamilcar)
Short Stirling III      (intended for Hamilcar)
Whitley V                (inteded for Horsa)
Ju-52 3m4g            (inteded for DFS-230)

BAT specific as of 3.8.3 (intended for the new Banners)
TGA
Ar-66
Bü-131
DC-2
Fleet Fawn
Letov 328
Travel Air 4000 family
R-5
U-2
U-2T
Tiger Moth

WAW
Ar-66
Bü-131
Letov 328
R-5
U-2
U-2VS
Tiger Moth
(A)T-6 Texan

JTW
Meteor F.8
T-6 Texan
Cessna 172
U-2T
U-2VS
Yak-11

These aircraft can pull any target/glider. The "intended" is just a suggestion.
Remember to set low loads/fuel and set reasonable speeds, particularly with weaker aircraft. You can't pull a Hamilcar at 400 km/h, it will break loose. IRL it was towed at ~250 km/h. Also keep in mind, the tug must be able to maintain altitude and speed or AI will cut the towing item lose to save itself.

dandolo513, you must install VisualMod (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,42495.0.html) to get that Game Menu entry. VisualMod is no longer serviced by the BAT-crew.

Hi Vampire. Sorry to bother you but I have a problem.
I successfully installed the update Blue Edge and everything is working as it should. Well done on the further progress of this great sim. Long may it continue.

However, I have run into a snag with Red Core.  Namely, the Lancaster MkIII is still invisible after I installed first BATDLLS-2 then when that didn't work I installed BATDLLS-1. Still no Lancaster MkIII. I tried the other sections and they all work. i.e. Single Missions, Career, FMB. It is only QMB that doesn't do as it should. I select any aircraft then press the Fly button and it tells me 'data file corrupt'.

I loaded the BATDLLS files from this site as you instructed and installed them both as one unzipped file and also as 6 unzipped files as shown in My Rar Zip Extractor Pro. This has always worked in the previous BAT updates where necessary.

The sequence I followed for Red Core was
1. Loaded an unmodded 4.12.2 into an external HD.
2. Checked that it worked okay.
3. Extracted the 13 BAT4.0 parts into the 4.12.2. Successfuly finished.
4. Checked that the new screens appeared okay.
5. Copied and pasted my working 3.8.5 config into the new 4.0
6. Checked for the Lancaster MkIII as advised and it was missing.
7. Installed BATDLLS-2.
8 Checked QMB but Lancaster MkIII still missing.
9. Installed BATDLLS-1.
10. Checked QMB but Lancaster MkIII still missing.
11. Repeated 7 to 10 as 6 separate files instead of the one, but still Lancaster missing.

What am I doing wrong? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks to everyone for making 4.0 happen - this is a tremendous boost! Just out of curiosity, how much space do we save by moving away from BAT 3.8.5 to something like Red Core? I'm realizing that I never really load up the other modules, but I'd like to know how much I'd save before making the transition over.

v4.0 Red Core is WAW only and - as stated in the posts - 20 GB lighter than 4.1, which adds DOF, JTW and TGA.

But if you have 3.8.5 already, use the "3.8.x to 4.1 updater"!

Only download and save 4.0 and 4.1 in case you ever need a re-install.

Like many "not so proficient" Il-2 1946 pilots, I make mistakes.  And I was concerned about the shrinking size of my "fast" SSD hard drive.

I'd previously downloaded all B.A.T. updates and everything worked just fine.  But I've also added aircraft, maps and effects to the extent that I couldn't even remember where and why I'd added them.  And that was posing some speed issues.

This "reset" is welcome because it forced me to think about file-structure...and where I keep my skins.  It took me another few hours to re-install my favourite maps, aircraft and effects.
Bravo to all concerned.

Heartfelt thank you to the SAS / BAT team.

This 4.0 Red Core / 4.1 Blue Edge new baseline sets the standard for a Mod pack.  The installation is flawless and the instructions are clear.

I would recommend having BATDLLS 1 & 2 as two separate mods in the BATMODS folder in the future for convenience, but that is it.

No other issues.

As a recommendation for other players, I keep my IL-2 installations as separate folders in an SSD.

I have the following folders:
* E:\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946.BAS <-- This is the basic v4.12.2; I don't touch it.  I keep it there if I need to do another BAT install.  It is ready to be copied into a new installation.
* E:\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946.BAT <-- This is the active BAT folder.  Basically for this latest install, I erased everything (before saving some mods and custom things...) here, then copied the contents of the ".BAS" (for basic) folder to prep for the new install
* E:\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946.SAS <-- A MODACT folder, for taking a look at stand-alone or WIP mods

In a second SSD I keep a copy of the Stock... but I can't remember the last time I messed with it...
* F:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946

For this installation, I saved the MODs I wanted from the old BATMODS folder into a temp location, and I took a screenshot of JSGME to see what I was using (stuff like the CAM/HUD/MAP mods, the Russian female speech, my mod to remove the white 8 from Nowotny's plane, ALT Pilots, and my mission packs (BI-1 campaign, and Static Campaign Patch or BAT), oh and Storebror's Loadout Lister, because without that, I could not update UQMG.

That is all...  just some things that worked for me, and another thank you to the team.

I am.  A couple of days ago I finished all the conversion to BAT WAW 4.0 RED CORE script files.  As expected I found another piece of code in the UQMG Converter Tool (UCT) 2020 that needed some attention.  I have all the files, plus the converted UQMG missions.  I need to do one more step dealing with how UQMG classic sees a few files, then convert some text files to Unicode, package up, and will release a Beta, that basically over writes the current UQMG with the new files.  There will be some functionality loss at this point.  The old mission-sets are incompatible except for the two defaults, but you can create your own.  The DB is not flawless, but the important thing is being able to generate missions and play.

No new maps right now.  And this is just for WAW at first.  BLUE EDGE or 4.1 will be a an issue for a later date, because I have extra work on that, including getting UQMG to behave when changing versions (Eventually it will be Default/Classic UQMG, WAW, DOF, TGA and JTW as choices.

Keep following my post.

Install Red Core by itself first (as a completely new installation on top of IL-2 1946 4.12.2), then install Blue Edge on top of Red Core.  That is it.

I would recommend the other stuff, like the skin pack, the Single Mission pack, the DGEN for BAT after that installation.

ol' Navy,

The functionality per se is not different.  What you are getting is saving about 20 GB of hard drive space, a clean install, plus of course the new features of 4.0 (WAW) & 4.1 (DOF/TGA/JTW).

Since you are a WW2 nut like I am, in WAW you are getting the crazy new "UFO", and the Ju-87D-4 carrier version (alternate history stuff), and there are a few maps, and the awesome ship-pack.

Hope this helps, and I hope you have fun with it.

You say you already installed Blue Edge 4.1 - on top of your old game I presume.
If so, leave the update alone! That train has passed for you then.

Install Red Core again on top of your game and then install Blue Edge again! on top of your game. Then you are good to go.

no need to start from scratch or try anything else clever.
Just 4.0 Red Core and then again 4.1 Blue Edge. That is the simple recovery for all BAT recovery needs.

Thank you.  The "start from scratch" you mentioned has always scared me a little bit.  What concerns me is that there are more than several things, I'm guessing, that can go wrong.  Then my game would be broken and I don't have enough knowledge anymore to fix it.  I have, over the years, tried to save a bunch of stuff like all the mods, etc.  Now I guess, with these two Blue Edge and Red Core, that I can finally "dump" all those many and varied files?  I don't have much room left on my hard drive and I know it would appreciate it.  Thanks again to all you folks.  You have always gone out of your way to help those of us who are kinda old and kinda not very smart.

That was why we made 4.0 and 4.1 now. Just two packages instead of a dozen before.

For a backup you will only need those two anymore: 4.0 and 4.1.

My other installations/modpacks now seem superfluous.
And with just a tiny bit of help . . . everything works.
Campaigns I always wanted to play but could never dl everything I needed, then deleted due to frustration,
either right away, or worse yet, 3 or 4 missions in when a mission couldn't load because I was missing a brick or
tree.
It feels like all of that frustration is gone.
I now understand what Uberdemon meant when he said he was going to have more drive space.
This is just awesome.

Not a question, just wanted to share something which may help someone else installing:
As Vampire Pilot helpfully explained, the high res textures exist THROUGHOUT BAT.
Don't just assume they only affect aircraft and other solid objects. The clouds are hi-res also, so if
you don't see clouds (as at least two of us have experienced), try changing the dll's to the alternate
set. This cleared it up for me, and also worked for the other person.

Just wanted to say a quick thank you to the SAS team, and to all those involved in making all of the IL-2 mods that culminated in BAT 4.0. This really is the ultimate, all-in-one, upgrade for IL-2 and I appreciate the option of keeping it limited to WWII, which helps save disk space and make for a very streamlined install. Really enjoying the work done here. Cheers!

I installed the B.A.T mod over Il-2 1946 4.12.2 and the game from one side works, but i can not play it when i choose the mission builder, all file are corrupted.
even in single missions and campaign there are some problems.
I have no idea of why i have this problems.
Any idea?

"file corrupted" requires a "reset" of QMB (button on the bottom). It simply means that the remains of your last QMB mission are incompatible. Reset solves this.
This has been discussed several times.

For some planes, you must assign a key to toggle bomb bay doors to drop bombs.

You can install v4.0 (and then 4.1 and then 4.1.1) on top of any previous version (of BAT).

Some BATMODS (JSGME add-ons) are now obsolete therefore post a list of your BATMODS folder once you are at v4.0 level and we will tell you which ones are to be manually deleted.

Hi Vampire Pilot

As you can tell, I just registered and this is my first post.  Hope I didn't breach any forum protocols.

Firstly, many thanks for the tremendous job in extending the life of IL-2.  I first played IL-2 decades ago, just a amateur really, but I was and still am fascinated by planes from the WW2 era.  Now, I'm near 50 and just bought my first gaming laptop and discovered BAT while watching youtube videos of IL-2 1946.

I have just bought a steam version of IL-2 and am planning to install the BAT mods.

I have a specific question on one of the steps, which is moving out the IL-2 folder from within Windows to the root directory.  My IL-2 folder is currently in C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/SteamApps/Common and is about 7GB in size.  Do you mean to cut and paste this entire folder in the root C directory?  My instinct tells me that this may not be it.

Sorry for such a noob question but I just want to avoid any major issue later on.

Thanks for your  help!

Hi, and welcome (back).

Why would you question this?  Yes indeed, that is right, copy/paste that whole game folder (the one that contains the il2fb.exe)

It can hardly be described more clearly here:

Quote
2) Move it

IL-2 1946 is standalone and can be installed anywhere and be moved or copied to any location, including external drives, but you should avoid Windows-protected folders: Move or copy your IL-2 folder outside of the Windows "Program Files" path, in example to C:\Games\IL-2 BAT

The reason is clear: So steam or windows can't "protect", "manage", "repair" (or whatever) your new modded install, where only you and the mod routines say what goes and what doesn't.

Before you move, make sure your steam IL-2 is set to be 4.12.2 and not any higher version. How to do that is also explained in the install instructions.

Yes, delete everything else, it's either not needed anymore (best case) or will cause adverse effects and is incompatible (worst case)

btw, NG HUD has advanced since your version. It is okay to use (does not come with BAT), just get the latest version.

Thanks for confirming, Vampire Pilot.  I'm not experienced with Steam and had assumed that the game can only work when it is within the Steam folder.  In any case, I proceeded with your instruction and downloaded and installed the zips.

When I ran the IL-2 Selector file, the little window that appeared says 'RAM Good' and 'No HL Found'.

I proceeded to click on 'Start IL-2 now!' after which I see the usual intro video with the warships (in the right resolution) but I quickly skipped it.  The next screen is the BAT screen saver showing IL-2 1946 v5.00m.  Now the problem is the next screen which is an oversized main menu and the mouse cursor does not appear here.

I hit escape and went to over-ride the stock confi file with the (first) confi file recommended in this thread.  I noted that the screen resolution under [Window] is correct for my screen ie 1920 by 1080.

I went by into the game and this time the intro video does not appear.  Next, the main menu is still oversized.

Any idea how I should fix this?

Thanks!

While browsing through Red Core I came across the L-5 Sentinel and Spotter with a pin-up. Pin-ups in cockpits I feel are historically inaccurate and give me the uncomfortable feeling that I am borrowing somebody else's personal aircraft. (I must add that I have no objection to scantily clad ladies in principle - indeed quite the reverse.) Here is a fix that will get rid of said pin-up, should you wish to do so. https://www.mediafire.com/file/412e193yeoz0343/0_New_L-5_cockpit.zip/file

Yes. You will need to use the BAT 4.0 WAW pack and then the BAT 4.1 update.

depending on how you download (browser type etc) It can happen (as in: I've seen it happen to me in the past) that in case you download into the same location to "overwrite" an incomplete download, the browser decides to "repair" the already existing bits and pieces in an attempt to save time and volume on the new download - and most of the time with archive files, fails with that, resulting in a still defunct file.

I found it best, to completely remove any defective/incomplete file first before downloading into this location again.

I did delete the corrupted files before redownloading, but I used the same location and the same browser (Firefox).  Maybe I should have tried another location.

There is no reason for it not to work, dsawan. Did you tick all checkboxes? BAT out of the Program Files folder, il2fb.exe in compatibility mode, run the Selector as admin... I don't know. Something is off on your side.

Yes, you can. And it will work. Guaranteed (if you follow the instructions to the letter).

Mind you: you will lose access to DOF/TGA/JTW until you install 4.1.

I suggest however that you start with a fresh, clean 4.12.2 if possible. Otherwise some obsolete files will remain there, taking some space. Up to you!

I have a question, is it normal that I do not have a "mods" appearing on a difficulty setting?  I saw a picture from another thread where they have "mods" on a setting:

If it is required that I need to add the codes in config.ini, please let me know which codes.

Is it normal that I do not have a "mods" appearing on a difficulty setting?  I saw a picture from another thread where they have "mods" on a setting.

To get this menu section, you need the latest version of the MissionPro Combo PLUS mod (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,62173.0.html). BAT's version is outdated, hence the lack of the "Mods" button in misc settings.

Been away a while, and glad to see ya'll are still making great improvements! I did a fresh install of 4.0 on top of 4.12.2, and it fired right up, and test mission went fine. Reading the details, I saw about the 2 dll variations - it said to look at the vickers welly to see if it looked ok or not. Two slightly odd things:
1. When I try to pull up the welly mkiii 1942 in qmb, it doesn't exist at all. There's another welly version that pulls right up, but the first in the list is blank. When I went through the full list of planes, a dozen or so seem to be missing. Do I have to have one of those dlls if everything looks fine otherwise or is one of them necessary to see the missing planes?
2. If I pull up the kubelwagen or either jeep variant in qmb, the wheels are not in the right place. In the object viewer, they have a spinning prop too.
3. In the object viewer, some stuff is missing, and some things are in the "red" list that shouldn't be and same with "blue". A couple of the planes are pink (no default skin apparently).

After that, I applied the 4/.1 / 4.1.1 update, missions and skins, but those things above are still off.

Are these things normal for the current build? Loads fine and seems to play fine, just thought those things were a bit odd. Are there some updated ini's or something somewhere?

Thanks for all the new content!

welcome back, Spinetti

1. That's the dll business for you, exactly.

2. Normal. The "cars" are planes and are displayed with "retracted gear"... you get the point? It's normal.
3. most likely there will always be some inconsistencies with thousands of planes vehicles and objects.  Only exact examples will be looked at.

There are no other supported .ini files other than those inside regular packs and updates.

I downloaded this over the weekend and because of it I have now realised my decade long ambition to mod IL2, so thank you everyone who made it possible. Sure it is a bit glitchy and I can't get the Lancaster DLL test to work, but the possibilities are almost endless, and I feel I have so much to explore.

One thing I was wondering, can I merge TGA and WAW (I have Blue Edge) so I can get to play around with planes from both eras in the same mission? I would love to do more with the Ba-27M and SCW planes for example, but with them flying in the same mission as later stuff.

Thank you everyone :)
