Title: 2 things that annoy you when map making
Post by: farang65 on August 31, 2020, 11:39:51 PM
This is a thread about things that annoy you when map making.

For all the map makers out there what are your 2 pet hates when map making even though it is a love and hobby for most of us mapmakers out there  8)

Here are my 2 pet hates

Making a typo in the load.ini Sooooo frustrating sometimes It can take a few seconds to find the mistake or you are racking your brain for 30 minutes to an hour or so trying to find it

Right now since I am doing a lot of wooding in Thailand, Laos, and North Vietnam.
When you are using the good old f key for large wood areas very satisfying to do but it occasionally leaves one texture area untouched by wood. You have to go back and really look for them to fill them in ggguuurrr

Now it is your turn.

I despise the way the chopping into small squares of map_c.tga results in discontinuities  in rivers when reassembled at map load time in the game. Many and vexing are the little 'choke points' that can result where these cut lines hack away. Particularly obvious when one is striving for the narrowest rivers possible.

I think it's in part due to this behaviour that the old stock maps had even short creek trinutaries--which in a real world setting would be hardly more than damp ditches you could straddle with minimal stretching--are rendered as yawning gulfs of navigable rivers of major proportion. ;)
