Title: water injection
Post by: wern moldy on May 02, 2020, 01:32:52 PM
After many years of flying my favorites in hundreds of missions and campaigns, I'm starting on aircraft I've not tried before.
Currently I'm learning to fly the P47. Am starting to handle myself pretty well in one on one action.
The water injection works particularly well, in contrast to the MW50 system, which by comparison seems hardly worthwhile.
I almost never use it whilst flying 190's. Is this the experience of others?
Back to the Thunderbolt; what is that occasional screeching noise?

The screeching noise is pro most likely the turbocharger engaging, as for the WEP iv found that the water injection is nowhere near as effective as the MW50. water injection basically cools the intake air so it is more dense and compresses easier, the MW50 system is almost the same but uses a mix of methanol and water for anti detonation effects, this worked at most altitudes as the water injection lost its effectiveness the higher you got. the MW50 increased the horsepower of the DB605 motor by almost 500 in some cases it seems(from my experience at least)that the water injection only adds about 100 or so hp to the engine
