Title: On some P-47s, a green hood. [no bug detected]
Post by: DESPEREAUX on February 13, 2020, 02:41:45 AM
After update 3.8, on many P-47s, when viewed from the cockpit,(not in QMB) a green hood appeared. This is more often seen on standard skins. If you change the skin, it may not appear.

This scene has also come across in earlier versions like BAT 3.7. But it came back to normal after 1 second or so into the mission thus no big issue. Now it is quite strange if it stays on in the BAT 3.8.

I saw it for the first time, so I decided to report it. Yes, this does not present a problem. Thank you

If someone knows where this originates and how to fix it, let's hear it. But IIRC the last time nobody had a clue as it was not happening for everyone.

Looks a bit like P-47 modpack plus some new 3D mod on top.
The P-47 Pack Cockpits have a part of the cowling added to the cockpit 3D model and when entering cockpit, materials from the plane 3D model get mapped to the cockpit 3D programmatically.
If however the external and/or internal 3D has been swapped in favour of a new mod, that dynamic mapping won't work anymore.
The quick solution is to hide that cowling mesh in the cockpit 3D (and maybe lift the cockpit a bit to avoid looking through the engine from behind in that case).
The full solution would be to adjust the cowling mapping accordingly.

mapping I can't do.
If someone wants to help out, I can provide any 3do files they might need to look at though.

I can take a look at it too, I think I remember that I've tackled the very same issue in Ultrapack not so long ago.

I had this issue, what helped in my case was - copying the BAT dll file into the root folder of the game with overwriting - the same file that you used before (either dll 1 or 2). I suggest trying it out. Hope it'll help.

For what it's worth, I did a test with all the various versions. Out of ten mission loads, I did not see this one single time.

could this indeed be incorrect HD dlls?
I would assume if HD dlls are wrong you would notice effects quite early and everywhere.

The hd dll's will probably not work in directx mode. Just a wild guess, because I never used the hd option.
Title: Re: On some P-47s, a green hood.
Post by: SAS~Storebror on February 14, 2020, 01:50:46 AM
Can't for my life reproduce the issue with BAT 3.8 nor 3.8.1.
Regardless with or without HD DLLs, regardless which fashion of HD DLLs, regardless whether in OpenGL or DirectX mode:
All P-47s are always fine for me.

not in QMB
Why should such skin/material issue be any different in QMB than anywhere else?
And if it's not in QMB, how about telling us in which mission exactly it happens for you? How about uploading that mission if it doesn't ship with BAT?
Due to lack of further information, I used the Single Player P-47 mission for testing (because that's the shortest way to get the 47 into air without QMB for me).

It would also help to know which P-47 version shows the issue for you, so we don't always have to check each and every version of it.

Last but not least, you've lately sent me a PM with another issue you've faced:

After the update 3.8.  On my mod dedicated server, the opponent’s planes became invisible.  This applies only to non-standard aircraft ..
Now don't ever expect me to reply to technical inquiries by PM.
If I'd start that, I could quit my job, file a petition for divorce and do nothing else but answering technical questions on PM for the rest of my life.
But: Now that you see so many strange things that others don't see, could it simply be that you've made a mistake in the BAT installation process and your game is simply FUBAR?

It's not about dll at all, I checked the previous tip, not any difference.  You are absolutely right, if you have the wrong dlls, then this is immediately noticeable.

Can you post your conf.ini and the type of graphics card youre using?
Title: Re: On some P-47s, a green hood.
Post by: SAS~Storebror on February 14, 2020, 05:25:43 AM
Istvan as mentioned before, I've checked both OpenGL and DirectX.
It works both ways.
Apparently none of the P-47s in BAT uses HD textures per default, as expected.

Post by: SAS~vampire_pilot on February 14, 2020, 05:53:20 AM
It's not HD related, that's checked. Istvan is heading somewhere else, if I see that correctly.

Graphics hard hardware would have been my next guess too. We had issues before with certain ATI cards and certain rare and random tga files not showing correctly. Reasons unknown.

I've been reading this as in: "not in the external preview of QMB, only in cockpit view".

btw, DESPEREAUX, good to see you coming to the forums to post now.

Title: Re: On some P-47s, a green hood.

My bet is that there's an additional mod installed on top.

What happens here has nothing to do with HD DLLs, graphics cards etc. IMHO.
The P-47 Modpack incorporated in BAT has one base class for all cockpits: "CockpitP_47DModPack".
All P-47 cockpits inherit from that base class.
And that base class holds the method to apply the correct texture to the cowling part in front of the cockpit:

Code: [Select]
  protected void reflectPlaneMats()
  {
    HierMesh hiermesh = aircraft().hierMesh();
    Mat mat = hiermesh.material(hiermesh.materialFind("Gloss1D0o"));
    this.mesh.materialReplace("Gloss1D0o", mat);
  }

If some other P-47 pack, some P-47 mod, some P-47 cockpit mod or something like that is installed on top, that mod's cockpit classes will not inherit the required base class "CockpitP_47DModPack" (that's 99.9999% sure).
As a result, the material will not get replaced when you enter the cockpit.
And the final result is exactly what you see here.

I am very sorry that I was distracted. I went in from the phone, did not see new messages .. The mission is standard, create a “dogfight” server, the first three standard missions.
With the installation of BAT, I think everything is fine, because this is not the first time I am doing this. I left the old fashion, "smoke and flame of engines" thought it was in them, it was not in them. Third-party mods are not installed not one. Support for HD skins is included.
Video card GT 940m, I will try to publish my config.

The mission is standard, create a “dogfight” server, the first three standard missions.

Does it also happen when you play a QMB single player mission?

In "QMB" this does not appear in any way, under any circumstances. But now I noticed a new error, on the maps "Korea (3BG)" many planes do not work. :-X

Of course, I agree with you, maybe they just didn’t notice it, so I reported about it. I was completely sure that everything was fine with my installation, but this hour, I'm not sure. But I don’t understand what could have gone wrong
Map of Korea, crashes depending on the type of job, "SBlueAirbase00" .. etc.

Then the initial problem could be online related?  No idea how but....
(and to be fair, Mike, we had this reported before a longer time ago by one or two individuals, without conclusion.)

And that second thing is due to the fact that QMB missions may contain items (ships, vehicles, planes...) that work in only one era module. Some Korea QMB missions might be only "good" in JTW. Same goes the other way round....  that's known and can't be worked around.
Not every mission works in every era module.

sure thing.
In QMB you must just try and see... Most missions will work in WAW, but Korea (and maybe Vietnam) may be just that one special case...:P
And of course you went right there.
Title: Re: On some P-47s, a green hood.
Post by: DESPEREAUX on February 14, 2020, 08:07:54 AM
I just forgot that there was only one QMB for all four eras) And of course I guessed that Korea did not have to work correctly. But still, I wrote to report this :)

All the same, you did not guess Mike!) I went the short way, and asked those people who installed my repack if they had a similar bug .. So they did not have a bug.  It follows that the problem is in the computer itself, that is, in the drivers, or in something else .. Anyway, I need to be a complete layman to install with errors, the easiest, most convenient way to install the mod.  And I would not dare to make a repack, and distribute it without being fully assured of its suitability.

That's good news then.
However... didn't you say that your squad mates also had this "invisible planes" issue?

That is a completely different story.  After update 3.8, as usual, I invited one person to fly with me on my “super mod dedicated server” .. But suddenly I found that the mod planes became invisible, (this is the same as the server default) before the update, all planes were visible  .  So something changed in the latest update, I would really appreciate it if you could help solve the problem with a dedicated server.  Suppose that there are no planes on it and there are only a few mod cards, but that the planes would be visible as before.
