Title: LST 22. A bit of real history
Post by: SAS~Bombsaway on January 30, 2020, 05:46:40 PM
This is the LST 22. My father served on her during WWII in the Pacific.

At 17 with parents permission volunteered and joined the US Navy. He severed on the LST 22 until the war ended.

As a young boy I found my father's medals and asked how he got them. He told me that one was good conduct for his part in shooting down a Japanese Betty bomber that was trying to attack his convoy.
Years later after his death I looked up the LST 22 and found that day was recorded in wikipedia  on the LST 22's page.

" On 28 December 1944, "George 1" echelon of Task Group 78 was formed with the ultimate destination of Lingayen Gulf, Luzon. Various elements joined until the entire task group was formed before entering the Philippines. Several enemy planes were seen attacking en route but only one came within range and this was destroyed by the fire from several LSTs, with partial credit to the crew of LST-22. One casualty resulted when a strafing bullet from the plane went through the thigh of an Army photographer on board. "

I hope you all enjoy this bit of history and this ship Asheshouse has given us.

I was having a bit of a problem getting this ship to load. I put it in my #WAW3 BAT 3.7.2, added in the supplied ships.ini, technics.properties and stationary.ini text,  but something seemed to be missing as it kept crashing at 70% . Looking at the loglst the error read "RuntimeException: PlMisStatic: class 'ships.ShipAsheIJN$LST22' not found"  Turns out the LST had been captured before it was uploaded and looks like it had been re-designated IJN in the LST 22 Stationary.txt file that accompanied the download.  Once it was re-captured I re-named the ini  text  -  LST22 ships.ShipAsheUS$LST22  1  -  the crash was cured and the craft appeared on the maps in support of the US landings :)

I don't know if this was just me or if the text edits posted for the stationary.ini need to be revised in the download.

... sorry, but there's no Chief.ini in the folder, so the LST 22 can't navigate ...  :-[

One has to re-install all the files and edit in the .ini's, but works in Pegasus BAT 3.8

I forgot to say it earlier, but thanks for the model and sharing the memorable history.
