Title: patrol boats going too fast
Post by: denko9001 on September 27, 2019, 04:44:19 PM
lately i have been using the fmb to create scenarios where you spawn on a carrier and have made a mission file for each country that has one. My typical fleet layout is putting the carrier in the middle, with a battleship in front of it and an auxiliary ship behind it. On either side of the carrier I put a destroyer, and behind each destroyer I put one pt boat. The problem i've been having is that I set all the ships to move at 10mph or 17kph so that they all stay together, but at a certain point (like 10 minutes in), the patrol boats accelerate past this speed and ram the destroyers in the stern, killing them. I clicking on all the ships in my fmb to make sure they're all moving at 17kph, and they are. For some reason the patrol boats randomly decide to speed up. This only seems to happen with the pt boats that have torpedo tubes on either side (like the one below). The bigger german s-boats keep the same speed as my other ships.

You have a couple of options:

1. Reflect real life - do not use PT boats in carrier task forces.

2. You could try amending the speed of the boats in ships.ini. I do this to make my carriers (and escorts) go faster to allow for easier takeoff and landing. I have also considered amending all merchants to the same speed to make constructing convoys quicker and easier, but I have not got around to this yet.

The figure you are after is 'Speed' which is found in the 'motion parameters' section for each vessel in ships.ini. The speed is in km/h, and represents half the maximum speed of the ship.

Obviously be careful and back up - the mod enabler is your friend - create the new ships.ini there which will allow you to swap the file as needed with no worries re changing the default file. Unfortunately you will have to do it all again on BAT updates if the ships.ini is changed (which it invariably is). This is made slightly easier by using WinMerge:
