Title: VID & FMB code: B-24 Liberators - Target: Naples
Post by: anitek on July 15, 2018, 06:54:56 PM
Log Entry - Plane: B-24 Liberator
Primary Target - Docks at Naples, Italy - 1943
Weather: Cloudy
German and Italian enemy fighters encountered over coast west of Naples -
Very aggressive attacks resulted in the loss of three bombers.
Moderate but accurate anti-aircraft fire from 88 batteries resulting in the loss of one B-24.
Results: Good
Author's note: Historically these raids were plagued with troubles and this mission meets the criteria.
I haven't had so many things I needed to go right all together and most of the time they don't.
I was shot down the first 3 missions and failed to drop my bombs because my bomb doors weren't open.
After this this one, I'm heading back to Europe with my Marauder squadron ( but I said that before  :) )
Mission code to come soon.

> Much Appreciated! Some notes below the link. 4.12.2 Patched and VP-MODPACK required - may still work on older versions but there's so much in this a fairly good GPU is required - I even get FPS loss when too much is going on.  o_O
FMB code here: https://bureauofinternallanduse.com/fmb-mission-code-b-24-naples/
Copy the code on the page and paste into an .mis file.
Featuring all the extra stuff I placed in Naples, accurate 88's and some mean Luftwaffe and Regia Aeronautica interceptors.
Objective as with all my bomber missions:
Your role is Pilot and - for a short period over target - bombardier/navigator.
AVOID HITTING NON-STRATEGIC TARGETS or ANTIQUITIES ( almost forgot that one..very important )
Record your mission so you can see your results and check out static camera shots during the mission when you are finished.
1. Take off,
2. Join up, get the formation to drop their loads when you do using the tab command keys ( set all while flying to target )
3. Fight through German and Italian interceptors off Italian Coast
3. Stay in tight formation while over the target to mass your guns and:
a. Make sure your bomb sight is set to alt., speed and vol. with rest of group on approach
b. Line up with target and hit "auto" - and immediately switch back to pilot position
c. Hold straight and level until release.
4. Follow group back to base
5. Land without killing yourself and crew  :D
6. Dismount plane and stop mission or just watch the other bombers circle the base for a while having a smoke.
But stop recording at this point.
Watch playback - :o
Get imbibed and have chow  ::(
Production notes for the curious about the video:
A composite of 6 missions; only 2  of which were successful.
On those missions it was pure luck, because the enemy fighters were on our ass right up to the target without escorts.
I was shot down on three missions short of the target area by aggressive fighters with their skill set anywhere above "rookie"
I forgot to open my bomb doors, so I didn't release while bomb sight on auto, but the rest of the formation did.
On one hop I was so busy watching tracers fly by the cockpit window I got back to the Bombardier's position long on the target.
So I just hit the secondary weapon buttons to make everybody drop on my command  and we hit the target dead on.
The map is not very accurate but at least provides you with a base to take off and return to - providing a complete mission over water.
Excuse the BILU logo everywhere in the video - it's for luck and a seal for the band and will NOT be in the mission you fly because you don't have the graphics. Happy  Flying..Muhuhuhwaahaaaahaaaaa!
