Title: SAS AI Flyables for 4.13
Post by: Athensguy on June 21, 2018, 02:38:26 PM
So today I bought IL-2 1946 from the steam summer sale and the game automatically installed in 13.4 so now im wondering can the AI Flyables work in 13.4 or is there someway to revert back to 12.2? Sorry if that question is dumb but I'm new :P

If you prefer the older version 4.12.2 for some reason, you can revert to it (go to the Betas tab in the Steam properties of the game and select version 4_12_2 in the drop-down list). That how you do it.

Wait is the AI flyables for 4.13 out cause I can't find it. I can only find the modact for 4.13.

Also looking for this...  I'd like to stay with 4.13.4m and corresponding Modact, but can't find a corresponding AI flyables mod - is it available or can you use a previous version of the AI Flyables mod and it will be compatible with 4.13.4m?

*UPDATE*
Sorry, having read further I see this is not available yet.  Is there any ETA on when an AI flyables pack might be available for 4.13.4m?

Hi guys. Unfortunately, as you've been told, there is officially no AI-flyables mod for 4.13.4

BUT I tested a few for you and I found that the AI flyables version linked below works in my lightly modded 4.13.4 game.

Best of luck. I do not know if there are any side effects, and i only tested on one or two aircraft to ensure a mission will load.

Thanks Fresco - I will test this out over the next couple of days.  Fingers crossed.   :)

Check out PA Yren's Y-Pack for 4.13.4
You will find a lot of the AI flyables in the pack.
Also consider having more than one install of IL2 so you get the best of both worlds  8)

Unfortunately Fresco's suggestion hasn't worked for my install.  I installed the files, but it doesn't appear to have made any difference to the game - it still boots up as normal.

I'll take a look at Squashman's suggestion and see if that gives me what I want, and failing that I'll just live with multiple installs as I've got my previous install backed up.

It was mainly the B-17 I was after, and that's available as a separate mod anyway.

Pressing on with the Y-Pack...

Sorry for your difficulties labyrinth, B-17 was the first one I tested in my 4.13.4 game and it ran well. You activated the pack through JSGME as usually?

I did seem to have a lot of trouble with most add-on aircraft simply not functioning in 4.13.4m.  BUT....   Progress update:

I have now installed the Y-pack for 4.13.4m.  It works, and the list of playable aircraft is quite incredible, with a lot of new models.

One thing however is that since installing, no other 3rd party aircraft (e.g. the Westland Whirlwind, Lancaster, and SU-26 stunt plane) seem to work - I've installed them exactly as per the readme, but they simply don't show up in game.  I wonder if this is fixable, or whether I need to consult PA Yren?

(I do have multiple installs on my PC now (4.08m, 4.13.4m and the Y-pack version), but it would be nice to have them "all under one roof" if possible.)

Hi labyrinth. I haven't installed the pack, so Im not sure. One thing that stands out is that the first line of the Y-pack post indicates that it uses "Part but not all" of the SAS ModActivator. I imagine this could cause issues.

I could also be wrong.

In any case its very difficult to help you without a clearer picture. You need to post a logfile. Someone smarter than me may be able to see there some helpful info. Read Here:

Typically, different users have different experiences with this fine old sim. In my case I was able to install all the extra aircraft that I required into Y Pack, straight from my 4.12.2 #SAS or #WAW folders, plus a not inconsiderable number of ships including almost the entire catalogues of Ashe and Western. Additionally I found that many FX and gameplay mods as well as Maps (including my own) transferred without problems.

Ensure that you are making your ini entries into the correct STD folder. If memory serves me correctly, additional mod entries go in the @@STD folder, as opposed to the @STD or STD folders.
I therefore successfully installed a quite large number of mods from 4.12.2 including some that I converted to sfs format to the SFS_Auto folder, so there does not seem to be any intrinsic incompatability.
Note, there is also a helper file from Dr Strangelove that allows the PAL visual mods to work in 4.13.

On the negative side, however, I have been unable to get Mission Pro Combo or Guncam tracers by Santobar to work; both cause a CTD.

While I faithfully maintain a small stable of 4.12.2 installs, including BAT, I do feel that the graphics quality of 4.13.4 is slightly superior. I also find that there is a slight FPS advantage when playing identical missions.
Nonetheless, Viva 4.12 and 4.13

Thanks Squashman, I had been using the original STD folder for mods.  That said, I didn't have an @@STD folder, but on updating the air.ini and associated files in the @STD folder, the mods work.

Suffice to say, I now have a version of IL-2 that is pretty much everything I want it to be.

Huge thanks to all the posters in this thread for making it possible.  You've made me a happy man.
