Those are good ideas. I'd like to add: Albatros CIX. There is one class file issue that'd have to be addressed. And any 37-40mm flak gun to simulate the 1pdr pom-pom/flaming onion gun for DOF. Fairplay IV,and the Fishing Boat Dutch, I think it is. Whichever of those is sail powered.
-
Also:
Martin Baker MB.5 (alternative 1946)
Focke-Wulf FW-187 Falke (alternative Battle of Britain)
-
We need something to better simulate naval coastal guns like the 6",8",9.2".12" and 14" British Dover coast style defenses. Putting 152mm artillery guns in a bunker never seems to hit ships well enough to give a good fight for a shore bombardment support type mission. There are two turret emplacements (BB style turrets) but I am describing the single gun coastal style of mounts like the BL 6-inch Mk VII and BL 9.2-inch Mk IX and Mk X type of mountings. A scaled down rail gun in a rotating gun shield type mount could visually suffice.

Reading your ideas, wishes and approaches is interesting and nice and some may or may not (for some reason or another) make it to a next pack,
But please refrain from making outright mod requests here.
Any post requesting the creation of a new mod here will be ignored and if the trend continues, deleted.

Does this mean smaller suggestions for BAT like this are fine? I don't really have any massive mod requests.

It meant they have a proper request thread with guidelines to follow and anyone attempting to land ideas elsewhere will be shot out of the sky. ]smileinbox[

I would like to see the Fw-190 A-1 in the pack. It was a staple feature in 1941 in the Western Front and gave the British pilots a hard time before the summer of 1942, where one 190 was captured.

Even if it's smaller ideas specifically for BAT?

I just remembered these were a thing.

I am quite surprised they missed these early Soviet fighters from BAT
-
I edited out the fancy script stuff and replaced it with way easier additions. They're just clones of existing factions for the Red and Blue sides.
-
Sorry if this post musn´t be here but:
Do you know if you are going to add the capsized battleship mod?
And Will be possible to have differents eras in alone versions for those that they can´t have 82Gbs of Il2 BAT version?
Regards.
-
A Battleship wreck already is in BAT and no, there will be no separate instances as the install is too interwoven.
-
A Battleship wreck already is in BAT
And in wich part of objects selection it is?
-
some stationary ships section I'd say
-
Out of curiosity, why are there variants of the Yamato and Musashi with a huge amount of AA guns replaced with a couple of larger gun turrets? They seem really out of place.
-
Historically it was the other way around actually. At some stage, the Musahi was overhauled and received a massive AAA upgrade as aircraft were evidently the biggest threat for large ships. The Japanse first proved that by sinking the Prince of Wales.

So they actually had those broadside turrets originally?
Geez. I learn something new every second. ]confused2[
EDIT: One thing I don't get is why the M26 Pershing is in TJA but not WAW.
-
because it sits on the Panther slot.
-
because it sits on the Panther slot.
Oh...
Well poo. I hope that's expanded on at some point. :-|
EDIT: Is it bad that my suggestion list keeps growing to absurd lengths? :-X
-
Modernising cockpits - some of them are really ugly, like Swordfish or Albacore or some of the flying boats like Sunderland. If this can be fixed, this mod is perfect! They really remind you how old this game is.
-
The BAT crew will fix issues and improve areas but the BAT dev team does not create mods.
The list in the first topic is pretty much useless. If a mod exists then fine but insert links to that mod. If the mod you are requesting does not exist then remove it from the list and request the creation of that mod in the right board (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/board,175.0.html). The Factions section seems legit to me.
I would like this existing mod to be integrated in BAT, here is the link -> That's the spirit
I suggest an improvement over this existing feature (ie factions), and here's why -> That's the spirit
Modernising cockpits - some of them are really ugly
Nope. Definitively not the spirit.
-
A lot of the things in the list are just rough ideas that aren't fleshed out enough to qualify as "requests," but in my mind, they're very important. The WAW factions are lacking diverse ground and sea power, hence the enormous list. I usually focus on 1946-scenario aircraft for requests since they're the bread and butter of this game.
The one thing that I know has already been made is the M26 Pershing, but it's only available in TJA. It would be nice if it had its own slot so that it could be included in both TJA and WAW.
I guess you could call this a "request for requests" since there's way too much for me to plan out single-handedly.

Hi everyone, i'd like to suggest the reintroduction of the PBY-5 (If possible) in the next B.AT. update. Here's the link to the mod: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,36461.0.html
I know that in BAT v3.6 and previous versions it was in game, togheter with the PBN Nomad but in the last updates it got lost, maybe due to slot issues. I think the unique loadouts of the PBY-5 make it very special and useful for Black Cats operations. Now in BAT v3.7.2 there are the PBN and PBY and i'm fine with them (i always loved Catalinas) but, if it's possible, i think that the PBY-5 addition would be very special addition to the Catalina family.
-
air.PBY is in BAT 3.7
in fact, the section of the PBN / PBY is exactly the same in 3.6 and 3.7 air.ini.
-
Yes you're right vampire, i just checked in the air.ini
I distinctly remember that the PBY-5 had it's own slot and some special loadouts like rockets, bombs and cannons in some version prior to 3.7...if i find confermation i will PM you.
Meanwhile i'd like to request, if possible, to fix the view of noseart for all P-51Ds. It seems that a 3D update broke the viewing of personal nosearts, while the B-17/24/5, A-20, P-38/40/47 are all ok.
Other suggestions are that the A-26s have a gunsight problem, if i shoot i can clearly see the shots going about 1cm low (no convergence problem); and the second is that the dorsal turret of the B-26 is almost unusable due to the fact that at 10deg left and 20deg right i hit my tail if i shoot. I think the hitbox for the tail is a bit too big.
I know that both of those are probably mod-related and if they are out of place here i will write under each individual mod.
If they could be fixed in the next patch i'll be really happy :)
-
Add HSFX's triggers to BAT! Please!!!
-
My request is fairly simple team. How about a Pfalz DIII for DOF please. They were very common on the western front in 1917/18 primarily with the Bavarian Jastas. There seem to be a few 3D models available.
And to all the folk who have contributed to BAT my heartfelt thanks. I first flew IL 2 in about 2000 converting from EAW and I'm still flying. Many thanks team!
-
Focke-Wulf FW-187 Falke
-
I should have added, Hats off to the BAT team! Wonderful!
-
;D Second laugust5: an Fw 187 would be a very welcome addition, especially given the amount of information available on this machine, and the possibility that it was flown in combat, in direct defense of the FW factory.
I must say that I was disappointed to see the "D1A as He 50" option, so kindly provided by Fresco23 nearly four years ago, removed from the JSGME. It would be nice to have the He 50 included as a discrete standard type, with its own place in the WAW air.ini., in the Stukageschwader category. Heinkel did originally design the aircraft for the IJN, but a number went into Luftwaffe service, originally as a more or less experimental dive bomber. Given the date of its first flight, in 1932, it would be appropriate for TGA as well as WAW. They were flown practically to the end of the war as a liaison type as well as a make-do night harassment bomber on the Ostfront.
I kept the option in my JSGME by changing the name of the folder, as recommended by storebror et al, and it still works in my Pegasus installation, as shown in the attached screenies. I'll also include a link to a relevant thread; the mediafire link to the mod folder in question is still functional:

Well, you might like what's in store for the patch already: The He-50 in its own slot in TGA with German loadout (2x SC50, 1xSC250, no forward guns)
-
;D Thank you for the word, vampire_pilot, and thanks to whoever arranged to include the conversion in the standard stable. ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
that would be me ;)
-
Let me start with saying that this is actually a pretty good modpack. Thank you, SAS team, for taking your time to develop it. Now to my suggestions:
1. Add difference in sound with open/closed canopy/side hatch, the way Tiger's flyby mod utilized it.
2. Revise some arming capabilities of certain planes. For example, I can't hang two light bombs on SBD-3, while there's a choice for three. Why?
3. I may be stupid, but where is the random belt starting position mod? This is essential.
4. Set monotone/less bright/less messy backgrounds. The screen text is hardly readable with these. Overall the UI looks like a bright children's book.
5. Add training maps. Throughout the history of this game, there's been virtually no good hisorically accurate training maps. Something like USAAF airbase in midwest would work well. Think the Aviation Cadet training program.
-
4. Set monotone/less bright/less messy backgrounds. The screen text is hardly readable with these. Overall the UI looks like a bright children's book.
Go to Misc Settings and change the GUI menu to anything but transparent.
-
Go to Misc Settings and change the GUI menu to anything but transparent.
I know about that, I still think the background choices are odd, but thanks for replying. May I ask a question about BAT's flight model? Was it changed significantly? Further into realism?
-
I would like to add a request for the next BAT update and it is that pin-ups be removed from cockpits or, if they must survive they are placed in a JSGME mod so that those who want them can have them but others are not forced to put up with them. I cannot understand why so much effort is put into producing a historically accurate aircraft which is then ruined with an unrealistic pin-up. I cannot speak with absolute certainty for the USAAF but no one in the RAF had pin-ups in their cockpits and I am pretty sure than the Luftwaffe, the US Navy and other air forces did not either. The reason is that it was an age without photocopying or decent adhesives. The sticky tape in those days was rubbish and the only glue available would stick your photograph on so hard that you would never get it off again without a hammer and chisel. No one was going to risk an irreplaceable photo of his beloved being damaged or lost in a cockpit.
I notice the pin-up in the Spitfire is in colour. Colour printing was illegal in Great Britain in World War Two as an economy measure.
For those who think like me here is a mod you can apply via JSGME that gets rid of the pin-ups in Spitfires (or at least most of them) and F4Fs and Martlets: https://www.mediafire.com/file/pyob5g4nj5stl5s/%2523WAW_plain__cockpits.zip/file
-
This is in fact something I might pick up. Because, while I am no expert on the RAF, I know that their whole approach on pin-ups was a bit different than the US and I have wondered about that before on occasion in RAF planes. So indeed, in the RAF cockpits these appear misplaced.
I have removed pinups that appeared misplaced to me before, namely in German aircraft.
-
Would it possible to include the HUD Gauges that are in VP Mod into BAT? I always liked the way they looked compared to the ones that are in the game. Just curious, Thanks!
-
Hey guys, fantastic work on all the BAT updates.I was thinking that with all the old and new Luft 46 planes being added that maybe a new module called WAW46 or Luft 46 could be created.Just an idea as I have no clue how much work it would be to add to the game.
-

Maybe not as a new module, but I was thinking about how it would be nice if the 1946 scenario was extended into '47 and maybe further with some of those later designs. There are a lot of late '46 and early '47 designs that would fit that alternate Cold-War-gone-hot scenario that I've been exploring.
-
As for PBY-5 it's PBY slot/Folder dependency is a big fun breaker. I suggest a new slot with seperate
Plane and Cockpit structure would bring it, as it runs fine in 4.12, but not in BAT.
It's definitely one of our hidden gems, a rough diamond buried by a mother Slot that persists giving
it free. Just imagine with DreamKs US ordonance what fine new Breed this would make.
Depthcharges, various ordonances....
In a seperated layout it's minimal bugs could also be better traced down (Weapons hooks, Gunsights etc.).
Is there a chance we can get Fw190 Versuchen apart from existing V18, the 3 other missing Slots?
They're in plane.properties but not existing in the air.ini
-
There will be some 3d fixes applied to the PBY in the next patch. I found some older material that fixes various issues, which obviously never made it into Monty's files at the time. Nothing on the loadout department though.
-
@diveguy: you can easily create your own module and add whatever dream- and what-if crates you like...
Take WAW as a base, delete what you don't want in the air.ini and add what you like...of course you are treading your own paths then and any update would have to be integrated manually but it is doable...
-
Thanks Griffon,I will give it a try :)
-
I have another suggestion. I would like the maps to include Army Group Centre by Mandrill. This may not be the most detailed map in the game but it is big so that you can fly those long bomber missions without having to change maps and it neatly covers areas that other maps miss. In the West it joins up (almost) with Uzin's Belarus map and in the South it connects with the Kursk map. I have used it ever since it was first unveiled and every time a new update for BAT comes out I have to add it manually. It would be so nice to have it there automatically!
If you want to have a look at it, here it is: https://www.mediafire.com/file/gunpdhsgtk8rlu2/Army_group_centre.zip/file
P.S. I forgot the pictures. Must be getting old. See next post.
-
As I said above , here are some pictures of the Army Group Centre map. They were all taken around the town of Mogilev.

noted, Airbourne;) I didn't even know that map.
can't know it all.
-
- New cockpit for the amazing Me-264. Cockpit for Bede-5J.
- USA maps for the maybe new "What if" scenario that the Me-264 has begun in a way.
- Several more ships like "HMS Hood", "Wilhelm Gustloff" (i.e. Passengerships), "CV - USS Constellation" for Vietnam-Scenario,
"Bismarck and Tirpitz" also imported from WOS - that is another dimension, thx again, Ashe! :)
- New Flak for ex. German 10,5 cm, 12,8 cm, 12,8 cm Zwilling, and 15 cm for scenarios of big city attacks.
- Improved explosions for A-Bombs (bigger mushroom-clouds etc.- i.e. more spectacular).
- Improved gunfiresmoke for the big ones (ships).

Let me start by thanking Vampire for all the work he has done on BAT. I also very much appreciate the revision of the Dixiecapt campaigns that he is doing. I was a big fan of Dixiecapt, and at one point helped me to get into campaign making myself.
So my suggestion is...Vampire, do you have a copy of Dixiecapt's "King's Panthers" series? It was my favorite of his work but I can't find it anywhere. I would have bet my head that it was on M4T but that is not the case. He must have put it on the old AAA site that is now gone. If anyone has a copy could you post it? If Vamp is not interested or too busy to do an update I would gladly take it on.
-
Can we also add Turkey to Red side because they joined WW2 as Allies in 1945 so i cant see any reason why Turkey is on Blue side except post-ww2 thing.
-

Plopped it into the list ;D

Vonofterdingen, I have ATKP preview, book 1 and book 2 but I have no idea how to post them. With a little instruction I would be glad to help.

No I don't, but I'm always interested in old gems.
maybe you could ask around in a more public place the the Lounge?

Please refrain from posting any copied or scanned books on SAS.
This just as a reminder.
von Ofterdingen talks about campaigns, not books
-
Sorry Vampire if I've overstepped a line. These actually are campaigns, just called "Book 1 & 2". I also have a FAA campaign by EAF602Whizz called The Senior Service, I have managed, with my limited ability, to replace the hack aircraft with the proper models that seems to work fine. It worked in previous versions though I haven't tested it in 3.8.2. Just trying to be helpful.
P.S. I would never try to share copyrighted material without proper permission.
-
Timex, if you don't mind sharing the campaigns please pm me and I will give you my email address. Then I can post them .

Hi All
Rain & Snow.
I feel this earlier suggestion (by Herra Tohtori) re rain/snow (user graduation light thru heavy) has much merit.
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,36376.msg399093.html#msg399093
The current setup provides what seems like heavy rain downpour only (not sure about snow).
If possible and not too difficult to modify, then the mission creator ('map maker' mentioned in the link) or end user could adjust to suit ie Light, Medium or Heavy.
If doable, then we could all enjoy greater realism.
Meanwhile, thanks again to all of you modders who have gotten BAT to where it is now!
Cheers :)
S'
Sikshoota

Sorry Vampire if I've overstepped a line.
Not at all, it just sounded weird and before anyone did anything I thought a reminder could be helpful. I don't know the missions but I am curious now and hope to see them on BAT.

To my mind, wii be very usefull to enlarge Japan Fleet and add to BAT:

It would be really nice if someone would sort out the Fe2 because at the moment you cannot damage it however hard you try. It is an important, if rather dowdy, plane for any WWI sim. Since you presently can't shoot it down it is next to useless. I gather the relevant changes are not easy to make but there must be lots of skilled guys out there who would make short work of them.

What about these ones, from Slippers Bomber Command mod?
• New fires and smokes for bombs, post explosion. All bombs will have a random chance of producing one of a number of different fire and/or smoke effects, generally larger bombs will produce larger effects but the odd small bomb may produce something representing a 'lucky' hit. Fire and smoke effects will have a greater chance of occurring in built up city areas than in rural areas.
• Reduced and randomised power and radius for all bombs and randomised visual explosion effect

Long ago Squashman did a map called Ceylon_42. In the readme he is a bit apologetic because it was an early effort. Well, in my opinion there is nothing to apologize about; it is a wonderful map. It is in VP Modpack and I think it deserves a place in BAT. i have the files, but no link to a forum entry or download. Since it is Squashman's work I would like to ask him to post it, if possible. The as-built map installs seamlessly into BAT 3.8.3.
This map would allow us to create a campaign covering Admiral Nagumo's April 1942 raid on Ceylon (modern day Sri Lanka).
-
What happened when I last played BAT (WAW) reminded me of something which has always annoyed me, prompting this suggestion.
When your plane recieves engine damage and the screen gets covered in oil, it's damn near impossible to navigate your way back to base and land.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I would've thought the wind pressure would clear the screen even a little bit, so that at least one could get their stricken kite home.
I'm sure many of you know that some aircraft had a washer system, which would squirt fuel on to the screen to clear it.
If it were possible, mods to this effect would be desirable.
-
I am pretty sure you know that those washer systems did not work like the ones on an average car! if you want to navigate home with a windscreen full of oil, you have to use different methods, I am sure you know there is a compass and an altimeter and you can get bearings from ground control sometimes, other than that, welcome to the world of flying in WW2 without proper GPS and other modern gimmicks that make life easier today....
btw, I got some new books yesterday (LW Crash Archive Vols 3-5) and there are some great pilot accounts in those; one from a ME-109E pilot during the BoB reads along the lines that when his engine received some hits, he first turned towards France but once out over the Channel, he realized that this would be very risky so he turned back and face capture rather than risking coming down in the Channel and with a high chance die there...
-
I have brought home, even landed countless planes with smeared windshields. Some you can still peek-a-boo and land them, when you move seat up or sideways or both, some you just have to abandon near the home base. It is far from impossible, it's a bit of an immersion to me.
Most of the time, the engine dies on the way anyway and you be happy to be behind your own lines. All you need for that is a compass.

thats what I tried to convey.... I can still remember LucasArts SWOTL which first introduced those black dots on the windscreen, simulating oil...now those were glorious times....

as Poltava has released a rework of his rather nice F7F Nightcats campaign for JTW, I could offer a rework of the F7F-3N which includes a working radar pit;
this would make nightfighting a little easier I think and the Nightcat a little bit more realistic....

Go go go! :)

I have to add I am not the author of the rework, I just found the least intrusive way to add the radar operator pit to the Night at we already have in the game with the files available here...

A drawback with ships in Il2 is that they all tend to have different default speeds. This makes creating convoys and carrier groups in FMB a real PITA. To alleviate this I change the ship speeds in my game, and I’m wondering if there is wider interest in this for the next update of BAT.
Suggestion (a)
I change all merchants to a default speed of 13 knots – which was the usual speed for ‘fast’ convoys in WW2. This makes creating a convoy an absolute breeze.
Suggestion (a).1
I do not currently do this, but it might also be a good idea to set typical convoy escort vessels to that speed for the same reason. This might include all the corvettes, the Japanese escorts, and the US 4-stackers (which were too old and slow to do much else). To make them easy to identify, technics.properties could also be adjusted to reflect the role in the object list e.g.
USS Dent DD116 (escort)
Suggestion (b)
I change all carriers (including CVLs) to a default speed of 26 knots. This usually gives more than enough pace for carrier take-offs.
Additionally, I change the default speed of the typical task force vessels as well – BB, CA, CL, and DD.
With this technique, compiling a convoy or Task Force in FMB takes a few minutes at most, and removes the slog of manually changing the speed of each ship in the group.
If there is sufficient interest in this change, which is basically a simple, if rather laborious, task, I am willing to amend the relevant files (ships.ini, technics.properties) if the devs think it would be an improvement.

A full rework the JTW weapons.properties would be a nice thing to have. Someone wants to volunteer?

I'll volunteer, vampire, as long as it is within my very limited knowledge and expertise (see recent speech issue if you want proof!).

Shame. Bouncing up and down when you fly over a riverbank is so annoying.

My suggestion fot the next BAT Patch: It would be fine to include all wonderful italian Warships created by Ashehouse. We lack several of them in WAW.

My suggestion fot the next BAT Patch: It would be fine to include all wonderful italian Warships created by Ashehouse. We lack several of them in WAW.
It would be nice, but you can add them yourself with a bit of fiddling:
Spica installs fine.
Poeti class is a simple repaint of an existing ship, so also fine.
I can't get the Navagatori to run at all - 70% crash.
Same with Caio Duilio, but there is a workaround with the Novorossiysk, so you can add the BB.
If you need any help with them let me know (I could probably put an install pack together for you).

Clive

I would like when the bombers actually would hit something.
Most of the time they are just bombing in front of the target. Somewhere in time something must have happened here and it was never corrected (and i dont think it was the mods).
In hard coded campaigns they are ok of course if the mission builder is even interested (often the bombers are just decoration, or a kind of a flying target, but cant hit a barn literally)

But if the weather is set lower, then the horizon becomes narrow.

If possible, it would be nice to fix it so that the horizon remains wide in all weathers.

You are right, griffon, the latest Caio Duilio runs fine. I've kept the Novorossiysk, which I was using as a stand-in (with the Caio skin), but renamed it as Andrea Doria so I have both BBs.
-
That's a great idea to use unused slots to get more ships if the same class, if there are skins for them :)
And as said, the Poeti runs in BAT too...about the only ship I could not get to show up is the 1944 Zuikaku...I get the game to run with it but it triggers a host of no spawner errors for ships that work fine without the Zuikaku 1944 mod in and also don't register that error in the log...strange...

Luckily in the Novorossiysk folder is a bmp of the ship with grey scheme and italian flag. I converted it to .tga and am using that to contrast with the Caio Duilio.

Many, many years ago, someone created a mod, don't know who it was, that allowed you to have mixed types of a/c in a flight. For example, you could have a P-51D and P-51B & C in the same flight. You could have say, 2 bf-109s & 2 fw-190s in the same flight. Flight of 4 B-17s could be mixed, B-17G & F. Can't for the life of me remember who made this niffty little app but it sure it would be nice to have again.

+ 1
-
For the flight model tinkerers:
Combine all DiffFM FlightModels used by BAT into a unified BAT buttons that contains the FMD/EMD files for all planes in BAT, and release a filelist.
-
Add UNDO in FMB ;)
-
+1 for the combined FM emd/fmd recollection, absolutely needed...
-
As a sound modder (focused on the WAW module in particular), my vote's definitely on the combined FM emd/fmd recollection as well.

Sorry, it turns out it depends on the driver and the settings of the video card.. :-|
It may not be possible, but I will voice it just in case.
The visibility of the aircraft abruptly ends at a certain distance ..
In appearance, this distance is not at all great.
Or make it somehow smoother.
It turns out that the planes suddenly appear out of nowhere ..
Perhaps it is possible to increase this visibility distance somehow.

For me the visual development of Il2 has been nothing short of spectacular. Whilst newer titles are obviously better in this regard, BAT for me is just about as good as a game needs to be, at least from a visual perspective. The only other thing I would welcome if it were possible, would be shadows from the canopy frames.

As you know, the texture of the sky is at an altitude of 7000 m, flying lower, we see it, flying higher is no longer there.
If this is possible, it would be cool to make it so that we could also see it from the top .. Well, like a mirror ..
Maybe there are modders who can do this :)
By the way, the "HD" texture x2048 will look great ..

Mirrors for Do 335. They were installed on some prototypes, so it makes sense for them to appear in the "1946" world.

First message here, so I apologize in advance in case this is not the right place. I'd like to see (just for the sake of historical accuracy) the HA1112 Buchon in the jet age, since it's actually a 1950's plane.

In 4.14, a new feature appeared in the control settings.
Displays information about the device.

Would it be possible to remove the default star for 'markings on' with the P-51? I seem to remember reading that BAT doesn't like Mat Manager. A tiny little detail in the grand scheme of things, I know.
-
it will be gone in the next update
-
Thanks! :)
-
I know these things are a lot more complicated than just an idea, but since this thread is here...
While building missions I thought it would be helpful to have the time stamp for an aircraft go out to seconds such as:
12:30:59
Rather than just to the minute: 12:30/12:31
Trying to link up based on time is a little choppy since you have to move aircraft back and forth trying to find the start of a particular minute, and you can only pinpoint the start and end of a time, unless you get creative.
Thanks

Maybe I have missed something here, but is there a reason why Hawker Harts/Hinds/Ospreys https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,28143.0.html are available only in TGA?
They were still quite widely used in early stages of WWII. For instance, RAF Far East Command and RAF Middle East Command used Harts and especially Audaxes (unfortunately Audax not available, but is not very different from Hart - Hart can well be used as a replacement for an Audax in campaigns and missions) quite extensively in 1941 - 1942. Not to mention some smaller nations: eg. Indian Air Force No. 1 Squadron used Audaxes until January 1944.
So, my suggestion: Hawker Harts/Hinds/Ospreys available in WAW. :)
-
The Hart/Audax radial version is coming to WAW module in the the next update.

Great :P

I am really amazed by BAT.
I would like to suggest the inclusion of the Ju-52mono (Ju-52 / 1m) ( https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,26324.msg276049.html#msg276049 ) that flew the first time in October 1930 in the TGA.
When I try to access this mod I am directed to an alert that it is out of my limits as a member of SAS, but I believe that the Masters can put it to fly in a future version of BAT.

Hello. I noticed that when there are a lot of tracers, when a lot of bombers start shooting, then the FPS sits out. I have the impression that BAT contains one of the mods for tracer, in which the textures of the tracers are too heavy.
One of the tracer effects caught my eye, and the textures in it were too heavy in size. (see screenshot)
If I'm not mistaken, then all this is a plus, and in and toga, it requires a lot of RAM. From my own little experience, I know that in fact it is unnecessary to compose the textures of things like tracers to have a high resolution quality. The optimal size is from a few bytes to a couple of kilobytes.
My suggestion is to make sure how much the texture of the tracers in the BAT weighs, and if some of them weigh a lot like in the screenshot, then change their size, I think that this will increase the FPS. Of course, I understand that almost everyone has powerful PCs, and they may not notice any problems with this, but there are still users who have not very powerful PCs, and this would be useful for them.

In the realm of improving existing features (if the following classify as mod suggestions then please disregard)....
I noticed the addition of the flare object in BAT (I'm currently flying the BoB campaign). I've used it in my own attempt to create a B-17 campaign. Currently the flare is fired from the ground and unless I'm mistaken it just continues. Perhaps a start/stop timer or a trigger of some kind?
The following probably does fall under the 'mod' category but I'll toss it out there... ;)
Graphics in the briefing screen. e.g. a recon photo or similar. Not necessarily in the map area but in the text area if at all possible (and I realize the game engine may simply make that impossible).

I would welcome some fix which addresses this. It's the reason I don't play certain campaigns; campaigns that would look really good if they weren't akin to a slide show. And I've spent enough money to make the computer I use for BAT, adequate enough. I'm not gonna buy friggin' NASA's computer, only to find that those campaigns weren't worth playing in the first place.

This is my guess, I'm not one hundred percent sure that this is the problem. But I am more than sure that the textures of any things that have a lot of particles should weigh a little, so as not to reduce the FPS.
-
I'm not gonna buy friggin' NASA's computer, only to find that those campaigns weren't worth playing in the first place.
I know what you want to say but this is gross exaggerating. My own rig is some 6 years old now and I play it maxxed out with graphics card settings and even did so on my old rig.

Flares don't go on and on endlessly, flares follow a carefully designed set of rules. The documentation unfortunately was lost in the "Expansion X, Service Pack Y" topic, which is no longer available.

Not possible in the text area without an enormous amount of work but there could be popup windows of some kind. The problem is deciding the set of rules mission makers must follow, and even then, I don't think the feature would be widely used. Check the "Intelligence Services" section in the NG-MAP (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,59835.0.html) topic. You may find that little feature of interest, or not.

Thanks Whistler.
Here is the mission. https://www.mediafire.com/file/g9dcqys11linr9z/BOG_Mission.7z/file
This is a side mission. It is not complete, the cover planes have been removed.
There is also an assumption that the FPS begins to sit out due to the fact that when the battle begins, all aircraft begin to activate their AI actively, and because of this, the load on the processor increases.

Of course it's an exaggeration.....it's a joke. My only point was that I'd rather the issue DESPERAUX and myself experience be solved without the need to spend more money on hardware. My rig is older than yours, dedicated to running only IL2, I've already beefed it up with 12Gb RAM and a 5Gb graphics card, the CPU could use a boost; which means a motherboard, but I'm unwilling to do that for a game whose single player aspect is questionable at best, irrespective of the eye candy that gets injected into it.
I'm not computer savvy and therefore cannot contribute to game development, so I donate money to this forum instead; hence my comment in this thread. I was hoping there would be some kind of solution. if there isn't, I'll wear it.
-
As far as I know, the problem is that the IL-2 runs on one processor core, and uses approximately 1-1.2GB of RAM, I also don’t know how much of the video card's RAM and MHz of the video card processor. If I have 4 cores, for example, but each core is only 1.7Hz, then this is much worse than one core but 2.5Hz, in the case of IL2.
If only it was possible to make the IL-2 work with several cores. And if used 2-3 GB of RAM.. :)
-
DESPEREAUX, where did you get blue_l_trace.tga from? I can't find it.
I didn't detect anything out of the ordinary in any of the textures used by BAT in the mission you shared (thanks for the mission by the way). The more objects/actors in a mission, the worse the performance can be. Bombers can degrade performance because of the extra gunners. But we know all this already.

You misunderstood, I do not have this mod. they are unnecessary to me. I just saw such a heavy texture in it, and assumed that the BAT could have the same textures. I suggested to check this, and if so, then reduce their size.

Ok sure, no problem. I am stepping aside then.

I have a suggestion to the next update of BAT. Could it possible to include the following stationary Japanese aircraft?
Ki-30 or Ki-32 (or both)
Ki-36 or Ki-51 (or both)
Ki-15 (any variant)
Ki-48 (any variant except the Kamikaze one...)
The reason is that I, Edc1 and Andqui is working on making another BAT mega-campaign (like "Years of Triumph" and "Courage Alone") this one for the JAAF. It would simplify things to have these aircraft as stationaries :) ]cheers[

A stationary, landed J2F Duck, with the engine stopped, the u/c extended, and no tow tractor attached, would also be very useful. ;)
Thank you again.

As far as I am concerned I would like you to carry on the good work improving cockpits. For me a realistic and historically accurate cockpit makes all the difference. I can see cockpits are particularly difficult to model but my heart sinks when I see an exciting new bomber and its cockpit turns out to be the B-25 yet again.
-
I am no cockpit 3d modeler, sorry.
However, there indeed will be various touch ups here and there.
-
Would it be possible to integrate my VSM 7.3 (buttons version) mod for the WAW module in the next update?
It will bring the latest of my sound work and lots of diverse engine sounds for different planes, thanks to the tweaks FL2070 and I have integrated to the .buttons file for the WAW module.

Sound updates end up to be extremely huge, it's not for an (already big) update. The sfs packaging is also a tedious task with sounds. I have it on my list for the next main version update but no promise. It's not the most fun thing to do.
I feel hesitant touching the buttons to be honest. I cannot fully unpack/repack it myself for missing entries. Fixing one thing there may tear down something unexpected at the other end. One of the principles was that there is only one buttons, and it's the same in every module. It gets unmanageable easily. Could you completely unpack the buttons without unknown files?

Thx for the latest update for BAT. :) There is one new ship that looks a lot like the German Auxilary cruiser "Orion" on which my dad sailed in WW2 and I wanna ask and suggest to add guns to this ship, maybe a seaplane (Arado-196 or a Japanese one) to make it a "kinda Orion-like ship". That would be very nice to have and inspiring for missions cos they had a giant journey on that ship. What a story to tell.

The Daultless pack and make flyable the AI only Ju88s, at least the -As, since they should have indentical cockpit with the A-4 anyway.
Also the 4.13 P-40s, or modify the old P-40 to include the P-40D,K-5 and N-1. In the latter two cases is just a matter of FM, with a 3D that is indentical with the P-40M, in the first case the wings of the P-40L can be added in the P-40E 3D plus just one mesh has to created for the exchausts.

Something of interest, that I have not seen yet : Functionnal CAM-ships. To use with some Hurricane, would be interesting !

An auxiliary cruiser was added to WAW in BAT 3.85:
No seaplane, but pretty effective at beating up merchant ships and unwary aircraft.

On the subject of ships, would it be possible for them to slow to a halt when damaged/sinking?

Any chance of updating the Sopwith Camel in DOF to show the interplane struts fully from the cockpit view again? Since the 3D revamp of the model, this mod - https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,57279.0.html shows the struts making contact with the lower wing but turns all of the cockpit textures pink. Running BAT 4.1.2
Best regards,

The BAT is 99.5% perfect to me. :) I only ask for one thing: PLEASE if it is possible, make an AI like UP3, Is so depressing fight against them without mods, I'm tired of always getting killed ::(
-
On the topic of ships...
Midway Class Carriers? Maybe even USS Enterprise (CV-65) just to have a bit of variety, even a franken carrier would be nice.
Also for JTW there's a few dead-end WIPs over at FreeModding that would be pretty cool BAT exclusives

I want to suggest to add these two mods. One is my Soundmod for Katyusha and Panzerwerfer (working in BAT 4.1.1.) , Credits to Gumpy and FL2070 - and the other is an old friend "StukazuFuss", Nebelwerfer 15 / 28cm auf SdKfz. 151 Hanomag - suggested before and not working in BAT at this point (4.1.1. 70% CTD). That is credits to Greiff11 and I still think it is worthwhile being finished (no damage model and the shells are flying vertically, also the launchers pitch / angle could be higher). I really recommend both but at least trying my soundmod - I think that it is not too bad and works fine with not interfering with other sounds anymore. :)

Sorry but AI in 4.12 is as is, when it's too hard why in hell fly too hard Missions.
Adapt, means tinker with the Balance.
But to me there fun ends, when I have to go thru each Missions in FMB to adapt to 4.12
AI, it's not done with the Setting Easy, if a Mission was meant for 4.10, well,
than it needs a complete overhaul to adapt to balance in 4.12.
My crap Cents.
I rather spend my time converting QMB, as there I can dictate how the Mission rolls.
There is a more universal kinda thinking, not as pre scripted as are other Mission types.
-
And in the campaign?
I don't know what to do anymore, i tried everything to get good, but nothing works :-X
I'm making some searches to see if i can find something that can change it
I'ts something rare when i have fun playing against these AI monsters, i always get tired of trying more than 5 times the same missions. :-X
Anyways, thanks for the advice Knochenlutscher! ;D

I can just contemplate on my QMB Mission work,
in the past around the time of DBW we Authors (i.e. Bombsaway, ...)
experimented with non standard QMB by altering it's shape into Single Missions like.
Like by adding AI outside the controllable 8 or 16 Flights Sets.
In 4.10 where they where build, they made sense.
In a 4.12 2 or more uncontrollable surplus AI (Fighters) can deplete fun make a Mission
unplayable, despite the Mission easy or goof.
But this does not mean all surplus AI missions can cause this,
a large Number contains easy surplus Spotters or heavy Mavis Seaplanes, these are more Duds
than a real treat.
Basicly yes, it means going into FMB and play with the enemy Flight numbers.
Can be that deleting one makes it playable, or play with the Target set of Enemies,
Better let them set to Ground Attack, in 4.12 any Target set on Flight is hypernatural Matrix style.
Target set to flight worked flawless in 4.10, in 4.12 it's broken.
I never set that crap on.
That's caused by new AI settings. If they are put onto your Flight or even a neighbouring flight, that's forced pancake, and you find that awkward, set it off, don't care about Mission Builders, it's your Game, your Fun, you dictate.
If the Campaign is worth the fiddling, it's not a big deal, go for it.
-
Thanks Bud! :)
I was almost giving up on 4.12 because of the AI, I just could not have fun anymore playing with it in general (Campaingn, Missions and QMB)
I play with all difficulty settings on, i reduced the difficulty by removing torque and gyro, Blackouts and Redouts, but it didn't worked.
It's really annoying to playing like that, i gave up on so many missions and Campaigns. I still trying to improve my skills, but without success :(
So many thanks for the advices, i'll try to do that! :)
-
Most likely nothing important but a lil annoying to me for years - the good ol' "Renualt" and "Nashhorn" typos in the inis. I once tried to correct it but the game crashed after that so they must also be also deeper in the files as well. :)
-
I sympathize with all of you who are unsatisfied with the single player aspect of the game, but I've said this before; in my opinion the AI isn't as bad as that, granted any improvement would be welcome, but it's not that far off being acceptable.
If and when some solutions are found, the change I'd personally like to see is to somehow neutralize the AI ability to know where the players crosshairs are. This would result in less enemy to deal with in the long term course of an action. I could live with the other inequities if this one thing were possible.
Hasn't anyone else noticed that an early quick kill, greatly improves the chance of mission survival? Coz it seems even one less enemy makes a difference.
And I've also said this before, but if the game were absolutely 100% realistic, we'd all probably get bored, coz 90% of the time the victim didn't see it coming; reassuring in reality, but it wouldn't make for good game play.
-
I suggest adding "Random Sky" to the standard BAT setup if possible :)
This is a very wonderful mod with a nice and handy launcher.
Thanks again to dear Whistler for this mod :)

What could be interesting imo to be included in BAT:
planes:
- Ki-43 III (final more powerful version of the Ki-43 with standard armament 2*12,7 or alternatively the 2*20 mm guns); only included in HSFX 7
- a Defiant which can be really used as a fighter/interceptor; currently the AI Defiants (and the gunner of the player's plan) do not really attack other planes/bombers; furthermore the firing angle of the turret of the non-AI Defiant is very limited (not realistic since the real Defiant could also fire into the forward direction)
- the improved Fairy Fulmar MK II Fleet Air Arm fighter
- several versions of the LaGG-3 and I-16 are not included in BAT (but yet existing as mods) but are needed in some of CzechTexans wonderful campaigns (perhaps he can comment on this)
Maps:
- the wonderful "Coral Sea & Solomon Sea including Rabaul" maps by Squashman - incredible realims.....

I found a youtube movie featuring the Fulmar MK II.

But I am not sure if this is just a wrong labelling and in reality it's just the MK I.

Guys i think that these additions would be cool for the next fix in BAT. They don't require too much work (maybe to adapt some planes to BAT perhaps) and i think they will improve the game right away. These are suggestions, what do you think?
1) Copying the M26 Pershing from JTW into WAW as well (it saw service, especially at Remagen)
2) The Crusader Mk.III is missing in the Stationary Armor section, meaning that it's not possible to put a Crusader as a stationary tank firing.
3) Addition of the proper Jagdtiger (H) with 128mm gun
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,37384.0.html
4) The beautiful WAW/JTW vehicles of erafitti
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,64904.0.html
5) Fix for A-7 Corsair/F-8 Crusader opposite brake pedals (on carriers it's really annoying)
6) FIAT G.55 S at IL2Freemodding (idk if it's possible but it would be cool)
7) FIAT G.56 (i know it's a WIP but it could work as a stop-gap until the final one is released)
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,66791.0.html
8 ) Fix for the Toyota techical with 12.7mm DShK missing the AI control to fire at ground vehicles

Something of which I dream : made all planes lo-rez skin compatible (some are not...). Hi-rez skins take too much space, when like me, you have a lot (and I mean... a LOT !!!).

A helpful post would list the planes where you find this.

Read my Posts in WIP section, when I quote "still WIP" it's WIP, when not ready to be used.
G.56 is no longer WIP
Although people can ask about the current stage, ask Griffon my Beta Tester or me, just like you wish,
we tell you what's in store.
My real WIP stuff is at Griffons and mine's disposal, not public.
When time comes it gets showeled to WIP, confusing, yes, but not.
Best wishes

Yak-17 for WAW ((USSR 1946)) if doable :)
Great job to the team!

Javelin Formation for BAT?
Make USAAF formations for B-24s and B-17s a bit more realistic.

How about a WAW 1946 module? :)

I marvel at the various aircraft available in BAT and the time and effort made by modders to make this sim more immersive. I am not really interested in prototypes and what ifs but good luck to those who want them represented. I would rather the creative time was spent on some still absent operational types.
I also admire and respect the worthies who work on the finer details, such as weather, explosions, objects, trees, cockpits, etc. Small changes can make a big difference to immersion as WxTech has shown for example.
The Martin Baltimore for one, was widely used in the MTO by the RAF, SAAF, and Co bel AF. Has anyone produced that aircraft?
The SM 79B twin engined bomber as used by the Romanian AF for many months.
