Approximately 5,500 MiG-19s of all versions were produced, in the USSR, Czechoslovakia as the Avia S-105 and People's Republic of China as the Shenyang J-6. The aircraft saw service with a number of other national air forces, including those of Cuba, North Vietnam, Egypt, Pakistan, and North Korea. The aircraft saw combat during the Vietnam War, the 1967 Six Day War, and the 1971 Bangladesh War.
All Soviet-built MiG-19 variants were single-seaters only, although the Chinese developed the Shenyang JJ-6 trainer version of the Shenyang J-6. With stabilization problems and "numerous crashes", the Russians had lost faith in the MiG-19, and moved on to the newly emerging MiG-21.
The J-6 remained a staple of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force until the 1980s and has also been developed into the Nanchang Q-5 (NATO reporting name "Fantan") attack aircraft. Despite its age, the MiG-19 and its descendants exhibit good handling characteristics at low altitude and a surprisingly high rate of climb, and their heavy cannon armament, (a one-second burst from three 30 mm (1.181 in) Nudelman-Rikhter NR-30 cannon had a total projectile mass of 18 kg (40 lb) making the MiG-19 a formidable adversary in close combat.
Russian built MiG-19s were still in service in North Korea and Zambia as of 2014.

During their service with Soviet Anti-Air Defense and in East Germany, MiG-19s were involved in multiple interceptions of Western reconnaissance aircraft. The first documented encounter with a Lockheed U-2 took place in the autumn of 1957. The MiG-19 pilot reported seeing the aircraft, but could not make up the 2,234 m (7,000 ft) difference in altitude. When Francis Gary Powers's U-2 was shot down in the 1960 incident, one pursuing MiG-19P was also hit by the salvo of S-75 Dvina (NATO: SA-2 "Guideline") missiles, killing the pilot Sergei Safronov. In a highly controversial incident, on 1 July 1960, a MiG-19 shot down an RB-47H (S/N 53-4281) reconnaissance aircraft in international airspace over the Arctic Circle with four of the crew killed and two captured by the Soviets (they were released in 1961). In another incident, on 28 January 1964, a MiG-19 shot down a T-39 Sabreliner which had strayed into East German airspace while on a training mission; all three crewmembers were killed.

The North Vietnamese Air Force began receiving the MiG-19 at the end of Operation Rolling Thunder, which ended in 1968. Despite their limited numbers, MiG-19s were involved in extensive combat during Operations Linebacker 1 and Linebacker 2 (a.k.a. the Christmas Bombing). The NVAF claimed only seven victories over U.S. aircraft, using the MiG-19, all of which were F-4 Phantom IIs.The MiG-19 was tested by U.S. pilots in the United States in 1969 after receiving a Chinese J-6 (F-6 exported model) from Pakistan. In addition to finding the aircraft to have a good canopy allowing good visibility for the pilot, along with 3 hard hitting 30mm cannons, U.S. pilots found the MiG-19 (J6/F6) to be an excellent fighter, "like the MiG-17, it could easily out-turn the Phantom...and could out-accelerate the F-4 out to Mach 1.2, but was slower than the MiG-21." However, the MiG-19's strongest fault was its extremely short range, as one U.S. test pilot remarked, "after going in full after-burner at low altitude for 5 minutes, the MiG driver will be looking for a place to land! This, combined with the aircraft's twin engines, which were difficult to maintain, made the MiG-19 unpopular with North Vietnamese pilots.

The MiG-19 was in front line service with the PLAAF, and saw limited combat against the Nationalist opponent, the Republic of China Air Force (Nationalist China). One major air battle between Communist and Nationalist Chinese aircraft occurred in 1967, with 12 J-6s taking on four Lockheed F-104 Starfighters. Each side claimed one kill.

Reports surfaced of People's Republic of China J-6s (MiG-19s) flying combat missions during infrequent border squabbles with the Soviets, though with no records of dogfights, and encounters during the Vietnam War with U.S. aircraft that strayed into Chinese airspace. These confrontations resulted in a few losses of U.S. aircraft, with no recorded losses of Chinese aircraft, although the MiGs made hasty retreats back into the safety of Chinese airspace before the Americans could respond with reinforcements.

In 1962, Egyptian MiG-19s saw some action in the ground-attack role during the civil war in Yemen during the early 1960s. The first reported air combat in the Mideast with the MiG-19 was on 29 November 1966, when two Egyptian MiG-19 fighters battled Israeli Mirage IIICs. The Israelis claimed two kills and no losses. Around 80 MiG-19s were in service with Egypt during the Six-Day War in 1967, but more than half were destroyed on the ground during the opening Israeli airstrikes of Operation Focus. Israeli pilots, however, did find the MiG-19 a potentially dangerous adversary because of its performance, maneuverability, and heavy armament.

Following the war, the Egyptians organized the surviving MiG-19 aircraft and assigned them air defense tasks of Egypt's interior. The Soviet Union did not supply Egypt with any replacement of the MiG-19s destroyed in the Six Day War, but Egypt might have received some from Syria and Iraq, so that by the end of 1968 there were 80+ MiG-19s in service with the Egyptian Air Force (EAF). The aircraft also saw combat during the War of Attrition; in one engagement on 19 May 1969, a MiG-19 aircraft engaged two Israeli Mirages, shooting down one with cannon fire while the other escaped. Egypt had around 60 Mig-19s in service during the Yom Kippur War of 1973 in which they served as close air support aircraft.

The Iraqis obtained some MiG-19S fighters in the early 1960s, but later sold them all off (a couple remaining in local museums), though the survivors did see some action against the Kurds in the 1960s. It is claimed that the Iranians acquired a batch of their own F-6s.


MiG-19P (NATO - "Farmer-B"; OKB - SM-7)
Version equipped with RP-1 Izumrud radar in the nose and armed with 2 23 mm NR-23 (later 2 30 mm NR-30) cannons in the wings. Had provision for an unguided rocket pack under each wing, elongated tailfin fillet, all-moving tailplane, third airbrake added behind the ventral fin. Vympel K-13 (AA-2 'Atoll') air-to-air missile (AAM) capability was added late in its service life; entered production in 1955.

The picture above pretty much explain how it work but here's the detail:

It have 2 modes (swithable with radar mode key):

Scan mode:

Player start mission with scan mode enabled automatically. However, player's aircraft need to be above 500m altitute to be able to use radar. In scanning mode, there are 2 horizontal lines that represents the lock-on adjustable range (by using radar gain keys) that will be use to get lock-on target in tracking mode.

Scan zone: +/- 25* horizontal, +/- 10* vertical, range 18,000m (theoretically 20,000 but in RL is less than that) also reduced according to weather condition.

When an aircraft is within the scan zone it will be illuminated with a horizontal line (target mark). There are 2 veritcal lines above and below the target mark. The line above are shown when the target aircraft is above the directly forward nose vector of player aircraft. And the line below are show when target aircraft is below that vector.

Target mark move indicate range and bearing of target aircraft in reference to player aircraft. Refresh rate are 2 seconds. Player need to wait for 5 seconds after switching to scan mode before they can use tracking mode again.

Tracking (Lock-on) mode:

Can only track 1 target, players will not be able to switch target, they stay with what ever it track at the beginning. Once tracked, the tracking zone will narrowed to +/-5 degree and moved at an angle that it will always follow the currently tracking target. these radar movement are limited (and slow) so any drastic aircraft movement can cause lost of tracking.

In any case of lost target, player need to turn back to scan mode before they can acquire a new target and use track mode again.

Lost of contacts involves: ground clutter, target out of lock-on zone, radar can't follow target due to own aircraft movement, target aircraft is totally destroyed.

Lock-on zone: +/- 60* horizontal, +/- 20* vertical, range: within adjustable lock-on zone

The target aircraft need to be within lock-on zone. The target mark moving showing horizontal and vertical bearing of victim aircraft to player aircraft, so for a good lock you need to move your aircraft in a way that mark is at the center of the radar scope (there's a marking that looks like a reticle). Range of target aircraft to player aircraft are displayed by 2 horizontal lines mark that move horizontally from outside to the center of the target mark (when the 2 line meet each other....well, you probably already hit the target aircraft (0 distance).

Weather can dramatically reduce the effective range of your radar. Also, when flying below 5000m altitude. Nosing down will cause clutter effect, which render radar useless.

Again, this is best with a videos explanation. Hope someone can make it.

Interception tactic:

If someone introduced himself to jets with MiG-21 and SM-12, without any experience with Sabres and Frescos, I strongly suggest you do some dogfighting with Fresco and K-13 Atoll missiles - it will help you figure out what you can and can't do with those missiles in much less extreme environment than you get in Fishbed/Farmer.

First of all, don't use Alkali unless it's somehow justified by scenario or you want some aditional chalenge - use Atolls for interceptions, no matter if it's against bombers or fighters. Also, if you don't have it yet, install Command and Control mod - it's essential for interceptions with MiG-21 (or SM-12), especially when you play on realisitc difficulty settings. It's not cheating, IRL all interceptions by MiGs-21 where, if possible, ground controlled. MiG-21 even has a seperate GCI gauge for that purpose - it received the coded information from the ground controll and displayed required elevation and bearing to target/next waypoint. Since it's not simulated (and often wasn't even used for GCI) "GCI(m)" object is the best replacement. Place it in FMB wherever it is reasonable to have radar station and make sure it covers the area where interception takes place (deffault range is 100 km, you can adjust it by adding aproporiate lines to .mis file in notepad, you can find these lines in mod's readme).

After you take off head into mission area and wait for info from GCI. You should get target heading, altitude, bearing and distance. The goal is to use these info to get on enemy's six before you even start playing arround with radar. If target heading is higher than bearing, fly at slightly lower course than bearing and vice versa. When you see that the bearing is equal to target's heading, turn towards bearing and start observing radar. Optimally you should get on enemy's six even  before it appears on your radar or at least before it's in lock range.

Once you see the enemy on radar turn so that it appears exactly on screen's vertical axis and adjust your slope (you actually should be flying at the target's altitude given to you by ground control all the time) so that there are 2 vertical lines, one above and one below the target. When it is at 7km (don't look at scale, it's wrong, the top of the screen is 20km, the middle is 10km), select it with gate (use increase/decrease radar gain keys to move the gate) and lock on (select radar mode key). The radar should switch to track mode - you should see the target and two long horizontal lines extending from it. If you don't, press select radar mode key again to switch back to scan mode. If you can't find anymore - abort interception and either go for another run or RTB if skies are hot. If you can see the target in track mode (remember axis are switched now and verical axis shows elevation, not distance), arm the missiles and manouver your aircraft so that the target appears in the middle of the aiming circle - that's important when attacking with heat seeking missiles since they won't follow your lock, this is the only way to force them to track the target you selected. If you manage to do this, proceed until distance markers move above the gap, showing permissible launch range. If you lose the target at this point, abort interception and go for another run, don't try to scan at this distance. Once you move into permissible launch range you should imediately hear change in tone signaling missile lock - if it doesn't happen, wait until you get to like 1/2 of permissible launch range and abort. If missiles locked on, make sure that target is still in the aiming circle and 1/2 of prermissible launch range, launch missiles, breakaway, maximum power and go RTB/ proceed to next target. If you approach to fast and don't launch the missiles before reaching inner border of permissible launch range (it's arround 1.5km IIRC) don't fire missles, breakaway and go for another run.

Also remember that if you can't approach the target from level, you should rather approach from below instead of above - RP-21 is not look down/shoot down capable, if you get ground clutter in track mode, you'll lose the lock. Don't let it happen.

All of this is for bomber/trasporter targets. If you're intercepting a fighter, first thing to do once you lock on is to use the info given you by radar in track mode to get visual on your target. If it happens at night - well, I'm gonna find out some good procedure for that, but in either situation your target probably won't be as forgiving and will try to manouver. At this point it will stop being an interception and start being a dogfight.

Newbie here.  I'm trying to install this mod, but I'm having problems.  So far I have all the required mods installed (though there are multiple engine mods in the engine mod link, so I don't know which one you want) and when I choose it in quick mission and fly, I have no cockpit view and I can't control the aircraft, it just noses down softly and boom.  Do you have an image of what my installation should look like with just this mod and it's requirements?

All other aircraft work fine (except for the ones that came with the jet 1956 mod, unless I put the stuff in air.ini and whatnot and wasn't supposed to unless I download other stuff?)

Unfortunately no.  The models don't even show up when I select them in quick mission and in the object viewer.  Also, I have a link to my log file, but I have to PM it because I'm too newbie to be trusted with link power.  Or posting code strangely enough.

Also, I have the SAS Engine mod recommended in the Jet Era thread and one of the many Sas engine mods from the requirements in this thread.  Should I only be using the 2.7.5 one?  And if so, which one, there are several download links.

Hi Delliardo, Where have you placed the 2 jetwar SFS files?(sasamt_jetwar_01.sfs & sasamt_jetwar_02.sfs) I have mine in the SFS_AUTO folder so that you don't
have to touch the rc file. This may be why your planes from jetwar are not showing up.

That's the jets from the Jet Era mod solved, however I'm still having the issue of no cockpit view and no control over some of the Mig-19s

Just tried this in a vanilla 4.12 install and was having the same issue until I installed the Mig-21 pack.
So I think the Mig-21 pack is a requirement.

This error part looks like you've lost or broken air.ini .

Do you remember what you did on air.ini ?

AirportCarrier.class 's clsBigArrestorPlane() method wants to read the file "com/maddox/il2/objects/air.ini".
But it's missing, the game cannot get any aircrafts data, it stops.

To all those involved with this outstanding MiG-19 compilation pack thank you, your time and efforts are very much appreciated by the community.

Those experiencing issues with CTD at 60%, this could be due to the delimiters not being picked up correctly with your entries in your air.ini file.

I had this issue and just replaced the delimiters with spaces and resolved my issue. Seen this problem before on the odd occasion. Hopefully it will work for you too.

Hi, everyone!  I really liked the MiG-19 3.1 version and I got it working, but my IL-2 install broke for some reason some time ago and I reinstalled to try this new MiG-19 pack.  I'm having trouble getting it working, though.  MiG-19 requires several other mods to run and I guess I don't know which versions to download, how to install them, and in what order to install them (if that matters).  Can someone post a detailed installation procedure for MiG-19 and all required mods?

What I've done so far:

1. Install IL-2 1946 from GOG.com (4.13 version)
2. Downgrade to 4.10m
3. Install DBW 1.71

DBW works fine on its own, but directly installing the various mods MiG-19 needs breaks it somehow, and activating them through JSGME appears to have no effect.

-EDIT: Got it to work!  I put everything into a vanilla 4.12.2 install and it worked.  Now to find skins!

Thank You very much for this MiG-19 Pack. It is really excellent like all other Your mods.
I faced some problems with loadout (droptanks and LR-130 rockets for FT-6).
Let me propose a fix if somebody faces the same issue in 4.12/4.13.

Hi all!.

Could be posible that this last Mig-19 Version its incomatible with the L159G, so with others aircrafts that depends from the l159g like the Su-25,Mi-24;Mi-8.
All of them (L-159-Su-25-Mi8-mi24-etc). crash at 30% loading mission if i install the las mig-19 pack. If i unistall mig-19 pack, the  aircrafts work again.

May be i am wrong, or may be someone had the same problem.

I have installed  MODACT 5.3 + SAS_Engine_2.8.1w_full_20171124 +JETERA 1.33+COMON UTILS 1.9  (and the WEAPONS PACK VER. 1.3  and "Weapon pack Generation 2016").

I think Weapon pack v1.3 makes free from L-159G about all of Su-25, Mi-8, Mi-24.

I can fly them without any L-159.

I Western.

I deleted the L-139g to try without it  (i have the correct weapons installed) but Su-25 and others still does not work). Anyway, i am doing a custom instalation and you know, one file up, one file down and may be it´s something bad, i will reinstall all to recheck.

Hi, I am having a 60% CTD problem, with both the MiG-19 and MiG-21 add-ons. I am careful to put the 3DO folder 2nd level down, etc.

Here is the log for the MiG-19 ctd. Can anyone spot what is going wrong? I am running 4.12.2 with Engine mod 2.7.3 . Thanks for any help.

Hi mandrill, don't use the air.ini lines in the readme, they don't work. Use the ones from the first post.
Same for the Mig-21. Make sure you use the V4 of the mig-21. Readme doesn't work.

Thanks again for your help. Before you gave me the hint about what air.ini to use, I was on the point of giving up adding new planes.

Since installing the MiG-19's, I have installed the MiG-21, MiG-23 and Sukhoi sets and have spent the entire weekend flying around like an idiot!

Left wheel is fitted in reverse fashion like if it is using some of the data from the wright wheel; consequently it has an hollow hub

Never noticed this before, thanx Hubberranz!, I'm using BAT v3.5 and it worked perfectly for the S, SV, and SM12PMU but interestingly it doesn't fix the left wheel problem on the SM12PM? I copied the heir file and named the copy SM12PM & tried SM12PMU but neither worked, is the PM based on a different model? Not a big deal at all I'm just asking as I'm trying to learn a bit. I see in the air.ini the MiG-19_S=heir19S, the MiG-19_SV=heir19SV, the SM_12 is the SM12PM in the air.ini but the heir.sm12 doesn't work on that model, the SM_12PMU is the air.ini entry for the SM12PMU and it seems the heir.SM12 does fix that one. Yes there are two different files and hier.him. The other one is OK in my 412 SAS5.3. I do not operate latest BAT.

Thank you again for taking a look at this, sorry for delay in response wasn't on line yesterday. I'll try the file you posted, but please don't go crazy trying to track this down, first I'm using BAT3.5 and you're using another version so I can imagine how much that complicates it alone!, second I was more interested in an answer to the question as I'm trying to figure it out (but I'm obviously in WAY over my head here LOL!), so please don't use your time trying to solve this as your original fix works for Mig19S, Mig19SV, and SM-12PMU in BAT3.5 (I can definitely live w/the strange wheel on the SM-12PM), you work on so many things and add so much to the game I don't want to side track you with a minor problem here. For comparison though in BAT3.5 in air.ini the SM-12 is as below:

SM-12PMU          air.SM_12PMU            1 NOINFO  r01   SUMMER
I can't get the 3do entries as they're integrated in the classfiles I guess?

hi I have problem with the space when I tried to copy paste from all the post explain the way to fix it from the fist post and other post but not working I I tried many times to make space when I compare with another raw but not working I added mig-21 and  mig-15 and mig 17 from jet era mod and working perfectly . by the way I install mig-19 V3.1 and working but I fail to making V 1.2 working and I am sure the spaces between text the problem can someone help me and make the spaces between text for air.ini and plane I'll be great full. thank you again and I'm sorry for my bad English.

I used the air.ini and plan ru in the last post and same problem not working stopped in 60 !!!! ok I have question any relation between Mig-21 pack 4.1 and mig-19 pack 1.2 I read in one of the posts I should install Mig-21 pack to make mig-19 pack working and I'll try to see if working to make next step by installing mig-19 pack and thank you again Hubberranz for your advise.

Activate only one plane at a time and use Error log.   60% is a plane missing something.

If  ,  and that is IF any other plane was in need, just the files of that plane being there would work.

Be sure your 3do file is not too far, like in an overpackaging.      Must have path such as     #SAS / Mig-19 / 3do

Verify base requirements such as Jetera v3 , common utilities, proper engine -mod  , and the two weapons mods.
First post for details.

State your ENVIRONMENT properly. ( ... what game version and/or packs your'in; activator U use ? ... ).

hi Hubberranz I chick the folder 3do and have just two folder mig-19 and sm-12 is that normal ??? and where the other variants?? I think I have another folders to make this pack working. you ask me about the version I use 4.12.2 and SAS mod act 5.3, SAS Engine 2.8.12w,_WeaponsPack V1.3, 1956 Core v15 20180923, SAS AI Engine HotKeys Carriers v25, SAS AI Flyables_5.30 for IL-2_4.12.2m, SAS Buttons 10.5, SAS Common Utils 10.9, SAS JSGME Options for Modact 5.3x with patch, but I still I can't making working and I tried to choose a plane one by one every time but I failed and game crash in 60% but when I delete what I added the game working perfectly without any problem, I have question can I get mig-19 V 1.1???

Again, try only one plane, so = one line entry in air.ini...   and PRODUCE + POST an error log after this 60 % crash event.
"when I delete what I added", should be only this line, not the package. The Package should not cause 60%.

If you do not produce an error log to us, nobody can help you.

Ps:  ...do not survey 3do content, just verify it's path. The two types u mentioned are cockpit files.
There are four types in plane file. Never tried v1.1. "V3 is of an older pack, previous the one by Vega, I believe.
Content of 3do is Cockpit + Effects + plane., not the two files above mentioned as content , by the way.
If you doubt a content, then re-download, re-install.

You mentioned "SAS JSGME options"! Try: disengage all you can prior U test.
SAS AI Engine HotKeys Carriers v25 *, I don't have; SAS AI Flyables_5.30, I have.
as for 1956 Core v15 20180923, I still use 000_1956_Core_v14.     * = seems I  have that one within an obsolete archive of "Jetwar V1.2".


ADDENDUM: NB that I mentioned earlier the need of two weapons mods, and I see you present only one ( v1.3 ); you should also have WESTERN WEAPONS PACK GENERATION 2016, last of the requirements of first post.

Hi nawrasmytham, do not use the Mig-19 3.1 &  SAS AI Engine HotKeys Carriers v25 as they are old mods. They have been superseded by newer mods.
Do as Hubberranz said and only activate one line in the air ini at a time to see which plane is causing the problem.

Hey guys everything works fine until somebody gets a missile lock on me, any idea why? Only happens on the Mig 19. Forgive my total inadequacy when it comes to modding but through a lot of trial and error I found that it doesn't matter what is firing the missile. I've tested it with another MiG-19 and then F-86. The interesting bit is that if I fly in a saber and have have a MiG-19 shoot me, it's doesn't crash. So my thinking is that something with the missile warning doesn't work quite well and crashes the game because I'm pretty sure MiG-19 is supposed to have one (i might be wrong though)


EDIT: Fixed it, I found the culprit and it was me. I didn't delete the conflicting files when installing Western's engine mod.

edit: i have both weapons pack and weapons pack gen 2016 ii in the SAS folder
I installed the mod on the SAS folder instead of the JETWAR addon for vpmodpack, i have done this with other mods that requires jetwar (Hornets nest, Hawker Seahawk) and both works fine. Tried installing it on the JETWAR folder.. also got 20% CTD

Hornets nest or Hawker Seahawk might not require JetEra package.

Try vpmodpack JETWAR addon with correct installing procedure.

Or B.A.T. v3.7.2 - JTW. MiG-19s already included.

Installing on the Jetwar folder doesn't work either. Still getting 20% CTD

Looks like Engine mod is not updated to the current one.

Hey guys everything works fine until somebody gets a missile lock on me, any idea why? Only happens on the Mig 19. Forgive my total inadequacy when it comes to modding but through a lot of trial and error I found that it doesn't matter what is firing the missile. I've tested it with another MiG-19 and then F-86. The interesting bit is that if I fly in a saber and have have a MiG-19 shoot me, it's doesn't crash. So my thinking is that something with the missile warning doesn't work quite well and crashes the game because I'm pretty sure MiG-19 is supposed to have one (i might be wrong though)


EDIT: Fixed it, I found the culprit and it was me. I didn't delete the conflicting files when installing Western's engine mod.
