USS Nimitz CVN-68 Nuclear Powered Aircraft Carrier

Here is USS Nimitz for you to enjoy. The Nimitz supercarrier is nearly fifty years old and, as a major part of a system, is one of the most powerful weapons in the world. This IL-2 model has been created with a very high level of detail - especially in the views from your cockpit - so that you get the best naval pilot simulation possible.

FEATURES

Very highly detailed model with high resolution, weathered texturing. Among other things it has: detailed flight deck, highly detailed island, detailed flight deck crew, flight deck vehicles, fully modelled animated radars, sponsons weapons equipment, catwalks details, pierced hull, open hanger 3, detailed doors, extensive railing, curved whip antennae and more.

The emphasis was on detail. There are no plain or plastic-looking surfaces because every object was mapped with textured areas to give variation in hues and tones. Light and dark areas were superimposed also to give the illusion of reality. It is accurate a model as you can expect in this - or any - game but there are many areas where there is a lack of source detail and reasonable assumptions were made about some of the features. Additions were made rather than being omitted; the reasoning being that it is better for you - the pilot - to glimpse a slightly inaccurate feature than have none there at all. There are no damage models and only flight deck area collision boxes were created. This was a logical step to save memory, time and to use the game engine power for a high visual realism rather than arcade thrills. The model is intended to be used in plausible scenarios and enemy shell or missile damage, colliding into hull or masts is considered to be unreal. An optical landing system is installed but doesn't yet work in BAT; it may work in 4.12.2m but not tested.

TYPICAL FILE LOCATIONS
D:\sims\IL_2_1946 - typical basic installation of the IL-2 game
D:\sims\IL-2_BAT\#JTW2\STD\i18n - the technics.properties file
D:\sims\IL-2_BAT\#JTW2 - installation of the USS_Nimitz_CVN_68 folder
D:\sims\IL-2_BAT\#JTW2\USS_Nimitz_CVN_68\3do\Ships\ShipkarCV2___UssNimitz - contains the hier.him file

INSTALLATION IN B.A.T.

USS Nimitz HD model is best installed in your BAT '...\#JTW2 folder'. now included in BAT Expansion Pack 7.

1) First, ensure that IL-2 is running and ready under BAT. For example, create an installation called 'D:\sims\IL_2_BAT'.
2) Install Western's 'SAS_Engine_2.7.2w_patch BETA_20170118' patch in the '...\#JTW2\Classes-!SAS-EngineMod_2.7.1W' folder.
3) Also install the two parts of 'ShipExtention2.20.5(4122)patch' in the '...\#JTW2' and '...\#JTW2\ShipAIMod' folders.
4) Extract 'USS_Nimitz_CVN_68_xxxxx.rar' file to a temporary location.
5) Copy and paste the unzipped 'USS_Nimitz_CVN_68' folder to your '...\#JTW2' folder. Make sure that the file path to the 'hier.him' file is like this - '...\#JTW2\USS_Nimitz_CVN_68\3do\Ships\ShipkarCV2___UssNimitz\....'.
6) Open  '...\Catapults.ini' with a text editor. Add the lines from 'catapults_ini.txt' to the end of the 'Catapults.ini' file. The default setting is for an F/A-18 Hornet. Two other options are available in the 'catapults_ini.txt' file and you can also customise the catapult for your favourite aircraft.
7) Open '...\chief.ini' with a text editor. Add the first line from 'chief_ini.txt' after the US warships section. Add the second and third lines in the other US warships section further down in the 'chief.ini' file.
8] Open '...\ships.ini' with a text editor. Add all the lines from 'ships_ini.txt' at the end of the 'ships.ini' file.
9) Open '...\stationary.ini' with a text editor. Add the line from 'stationary_ini.txt' at the end of the US warships section.
10) Open '...\technics.properties' (not technics.ini) with a text editor. Add the single line from 'technics_properties.txt' after the US warships section.

11) Use Full Mission Builder to create a scenario containing USS Nimitz.

INSTALLATION IN 4.12.2m

It is recommended to install in use B.A.T. However, if you wish, you will need:

@Seb I wrote in the readme.txt file that it is possible to use the carrier in other IL-2 versions, but not recommended. Some time ago I decided to concentrate on Nimitz installation in BAT only but, during debugging, got her to load in 4.12.2m as well - but the catapults didn't seem to work.

If you find the time, install Nimitz in 4.12.2m and make a backup copy of your ..\#SAS\!SAS_Engine_Mod folder and try various '2.7' Engine Mod patches of western0221 and test them. If you get the cats to work please let us know.

I understand you based it on BAT. I only have SASModAct 5.3. I installed it and it works in game but I cannot set a takeoff point to the carrier in a mission. I put it in place of a carried in a mission I had already made and the plane just drops into the water. Would you have an idea of how I might get it to work?

When i go "manualy" to the catapult with my aircraft (no AI at all) take off is OK.
No problem for others AI.

Hey Monty - thanks for the appreciation and allowing me to be part of the family. Hopefully we'll get western to help add FLOLS to Nimitz before you release Expansion Pack 7.

Nadvgia - Nimitz should appear in 4.12.2m, but the catapults don't seem to work. Look at the 4.12.2m requirements in the first post which I've just added. (This evening I used Seb's settings (post #20) to carry out further checking and testing). It may help to know that I've found that appearance in FMB but not in game has sometimes come from errors in Ships.ini where two separate entries are required.

Andee - your lag may be caused by logging where the poor old game is trying to keep up with what's going on. The readme file mentions slow FPS and it is considered best to de-activate the log.lst file (In Conf.ini, [Console] section, LOG=0).

Ranwers - (I never thought I would be advising you on anything). Just a thought from the readme.txt, that may also apply to your 4.12.2 version: "BATDLLS-02 will resolve issues for systems that do not get on with the High Resolution Mod that is installed by default in BAT. Download and Unzip to your main Il2 Install and over-write. https://www.mediafire.com/?T7gmf17wc0dvv55". Otherwise, as I said to Nadvgia, check out the Ships.ini file especially.

Auto - maybe the BATDLLS-02 will fix you? See Ranwers. Otherwise, wait for Monty's Expansion Pack 7.

Bombsaway - I've come to the same conclusion: catapults work in BAT but not in 4.12.2.

To all, in summary: at present it seems as though the choice is - USS Nimitz CVN-68 in B.A.T. with working catapults and wires but no FLOLS - or Nimitz in 4.12.2m with glowing inactive FLOLS, working wires but no working cats.

This evening I carried out some trials in 4.12.2m with several combinations of engines mods with limited success. The successful bit is that I got Nimitz to appear once more in my 4.12.2m game after I'd sorted out some misplaced early development files. B.A.T. has several years of fully inclusive development and a modular install dedicated to the Jet Age.  The Engine MOD, Weapons Packs, Flight Models and so many months of building and tweaking.  I can't put a finger on what particular critical piece of unique code or feature might be included.  Its a big and complex task to integrate them all.  I think the reason B.A.T. works is that we started with the goal of developing the Modular eras and everything Jet Age that we can get is in there.

I actually started C.F.M. (Compressed Full Monty) out of conflicts with Eric's Marine package AV8B Harrier and F/A18.  The package needed so many specialist requirements at the time that the need for a dedicated Jet Age install was realised.  From there the modular approach of C.U.P., and then the improved B.A.T., has seen us solve many incompatibilities, No-Open-Canopy-Code (now part of the Flight Model), in-flight refuelling, helos and Steam Cats.  We got to know a LOT about Steam Cats.

For a major modder like Karla to recognise this, and become part of the B.A.T. family, is another wonderful milestone for the project.  B.A.T. is driven by all the great modders that make it possible.  Thanks again to them all.

@ Karla... The blast deflectors work perectly. The jet does not follow the catapult " texture " perfectly though. It sort of slides to the left of the texture and launches. I will be happy to test the update.

@ Simon. Bat looks great. I'm just very lazy when it comes to new installs.  :-[.  I have been using the torrent to download Bat andwill install it soon. They both run the latest engine mod that controls the catapults. I am just wondering if you have a mod or something in BAT that I dont have in modact 5.3. If we can figure it out, this ship will work in any install I hope.

I think confusion over Catapults is due to the new Engine MOD 2.7.3.W - This does not facillitate Auto-Takeoffs.  The AI are OK but player/pilots may use AP to position themselves on the CAT but then must kill AP and perform a manual takeoff.

Check Trim, Check Flaps for takeoff, Spool up to max +, punch the wheel-brakes (AP positioning can sometimes leave them on), release the CAT!

Those of us who fly like this all the time forgot that so many players do auto-takeoffs, from the ground and from carriers!  Well that is not currently an option my friends...  o_O

Thank you Karla. Problem was that LOG=1 ofc... Now USS Nimitz is so far full working in my game too. 4.12.2m, 5.3, 2.7.3w.

Actually I have the Nimtz in game - my problem was absence of the French carriers.

At the end - a catapult does not work  :(

Probably not so Ranwers!  Are AI taking off OK?  The Player cannot takeoff Auto anymore, must be manual takeoff.

Hello FritziE, the carriers in BAT do not allow a AI take off for some reason, I have read it somewhere most likely it is in the manual
or in some area in the threads dealing with BAT. ;)

I myself do not fly much any more for health reasons so test everything with AI, in this instance you can set auto and it will do everything
up to putting you on the cat but then you need to disengage auto, make sure you are at full power and release the chocks.

Allergic to Hi-resolution mod?  o_O LOL

Only solution would be reducing all the skin sizes inside the "mod" folder to the normal 1024x1024 size
using *photoshop or Gimp....
....BUT  you will loose some details when you look at the mod close-up.

Please DO Install the high-resolution mod. It comes in very handy.
Many maps now use some HD skins too, So you need it.

Sorry... allergia can't be fought...but... found the solution : should have looked in the RAR file before posting... there is a folder with lorez files... just had to switch, et voilà ! I am happy now !

Nadvgia - Nimitz should appear in 4.12.2m, but the catapults don't seem to work. Look at the 4.12.2m requirements in the first post which I've just added. (This evening I used Seb's settings (post #20) to carry out further checking and testing). It may help to know that I've found that appearance in FMB but not in game has sometimes come from errors in Ships.ini where two separate entries are required.

It was the French carriers that were missing ;) Karla, what an amazing job you did! No wonder it lags my actual pc with such detailed work  :D fortunately for me i will get a new one shortly so i can enjoy this amazing mod! Thank you once again ! :)

Thanks for the advice, Pete! I have always done full manual take offs from carriers. I can hook to the the cat but when everything is set the plane does not accelerate (I have check the brakes aren't on) - I hit 60-70 mph at end of flight deck. Also the plane does not track down the cat launch but off to the right. Left cat goes off deck almost in front of right cat and right cat goes off the starboard side of the boat. AI tracks normal but fails to launch.

Any other carrier all is normal.

I have been trying a few things and I will keep an eye in the BAT Tech help thread as I am sure some others will have the same thing - there is always a little ghost in the machine.

@FritziE - sorry to hear you've a problem with Nimitz.

I presume you tried it more than once. Also, did you switch off your PC in between tries? If I encounter certain types of problem I usually try to start from a complete reboot - PC off, switch off power, pause, switch on power, PC on - to clear the cache and Windows detritus. Is it a pure B.A.T. install with no JSGME nor other mods? In the past I had 4.8, 4.9 modded, DBW, CUP etc all modded and occasionally experienced problems. I've decided, from now on, to stick with the experts and just use BAT as is.

I'm not sure whether the catapult mod has been improved recently (I know western is working on it, at least), so all I could think of for your problem was a corrupted Catpults.ini file. Just now I tried a Catpults.ini without Nimitz settings but surprisingly still got a Hornet to manually engage on the port cat and shoot - so I've no other ideas, sorry.

I still have the problem launching from cats on Nimitz, but I keep an eye out for things and test every once in a while to be sure I am not doing something incorrectly somehow.

I think it looks fantastic and that you did a great job! Thanks for doing this and adding it to the game, we all appreciate I am sure. I know I do. And I know at some point I will have it working just as most people seem to.

Catapults Not Working:

Hi,

After about 3 weeks of trying to get the catapults to work on my version of IL2 4.12 with Mod Act. 5.3 I discovered a small fix. I had different versions of the catapult.ini files. One version was contained in Engine mod (Latest version) and the other was in the STD>COM>MADDOX>IL2>OBJECTS.Catapult.ini. All I did was copy the entry as per karlas instruction and copied the files so the engine mod version of Catapult.ini matched the structure of the one in the STD path and the catapults and blast deflectors worked on the Nimitz. Great job Karla and i hope this simple solution helps.

In my Modact 4.12.2 modact 5.30 jetage and so on> all requirment Mods installed.

All Features are perfekt Catapult and Sams and cisw are working> but the Launcher for Anti missile is not TURNING no left> right> up >down; maybe in Technics ini are set Launcher from 0 to 1, or in my Modact is a issue.

This is a small Thing and not so important but could a nicely Feature

advent i could see the nimitz so i have all the pack to make it work but can no longer see it

Yes.
AMD CPUs are not compatible to default DLLs of HD / Full color mod.

About B.A.T. , installing "BATDLL2" will solve the problem.
If not about B.A.T. , I've not tested though... also copying DLLs in "BATDLL2" archive onto your non BAT game root folder ..... work ?

Only aircraft custom skins are 2k / 4k OK on AMD CPUs.

But other ships, cockpits, clouds, terrains are fault.
