Ok. There is not many picture of cockpit, then I don't see any gunsight. It is interesting how crew do it in dive bombing...  :-[

Have childhood memories of this ugly brute. My father built a tissue covered balsa flying scale model from a Skyleda kit in the mid 1950s, and carved a non flying version from plans provided in a magazine called Aeromodeller well before plastic kits made their appearance. Wonderful to be re-united with that shape again You have captured it beautifully.

Thank you for this important addition. Incidentally, when one landed on a US carrier and folded the extraordinary arrangement of wings and flaps a US sailor was heard to remark "Jeez, the Limeys'll be making airplanes next!" Incidentally I realise the complex u/c of the Barracuda must be a nightmare to model, but is there any prospect of it becoming more realistic at some stage?

... just  to say that the 2 skins that come with the Barracuda are in 24 bits format, so they won't show if you don't have the HiRes mod ... (in this case you only need to convert them to 8 bits, 256 colours) ...  ;)

You must dowload cockpit mod first.

Many thanks Ranwers for yet another great example of your excellent work.  Coincidentally 2 days prior to your release of the Barracuda, I had just commenced working on some RAF, FAA missions against the Admirals Tirpitz, Hipper & Scheer up in the Norwegian waters Nth of Narvik. 
How timely for the very relevant Barracuda vs the Beast!

I should add that everything appears to be working spot on in Monty's CUP.

After some months of almost total assence due heavy work commitment and now being on holiday....with sea , beach and family priority....I must to say that I can't wait to return home and add this wondeful bird on my faithful and beloved IL2....

Thank you for this important addition. Incidentally, when one landed on a US carrier and folded the extraordinary arrangement of wings and flaps a US sailor was heard to remark "Jeez, the Limeys'll be making airplanes next!" Incidentally I realise the complex u/c of the Barracuda must be a nightmare to model, but is there any prospect of it becoming more realistic at some stage?

congratulations for the fine work.
There is a previous Barracuda made by Ectoflyer, CWatson and The Radge as a frankenplane. I installed it on my game just to see the differences but I got a message that the cockpit is missing. I just could see that the weapons are different.
I use CUP WAW20.
Could you kindly tell me how I can get the radar working?

Mind you that this is an ASV radar, not picking up on aerial targets but ships only.

Maybe you expect too much of a visible contact, this image already shows 11 of them, but they're not as bright as the previously shown AWACS radar implementations used to be.
Maybe also there's something wrong with the ships you're trying to hunt.
The radar picks up any "ShipGeneric" and/or "BigshipGeneric" type class.
That's the two classes covering all stock ships.
If a "clever" modder decides not to derive his ship mod classes from any of these two base classes, it will not get picked up by the radar (and by the way not by any AI torpedo plane either).

Great plane! However, looks like two 1600 lb bombs magically appeared when I dropped bombs, and poor target ship got double hit. I tested on DBW, but I don't know why that issue couldn't appear on other versions also.

When I packed v1.03 together, I've based it on an outdated intermediate v1.02 WIP version.

An updated v1.04 is available in first post where everything "good" from 1.02 and 1.03 is merged together.

In "weapons_ru.properties" delete the old entries or set the new entries on top.

Yes, sure.
Quite similar to the Ki-94, the Cuda intentionally references the stock sound presets, but for current modded games (Modact, CUP etc.) you might as well try the attached alternative FM which references the Modact type sounds instead.
Just extract the included "BarracudaMkII_FM" into your "Barracuda" mod folder and overwrite the existing file in there.

First of all, this is an absolutely beautifully modeled aircraft. Thank you very much.

However, I'm having difficulty building missions for it. The AI refuses to actually dive bomb a specified target. They don't even release their bomb ordinance on the target. The don't deploy their dive breaks. They don't dive at all. They just fly around the target aimlessly, then fly to the next waypoint. The AI does conduct a competent torpedo attack from low level, however. They will also area-bomb from high altitude when no target is specified at the GAttack waypoint like the level bombers do.   

I don't think that the problem is in my mission. The altitude is over 3500m, etc.The AI performs dive bombing very well in the same mission when the Barracuda is replaced by the SBD or SB2C. 

I don't know how you assign AI routines to the aircraft. But my impression is that the barracuda AI is considering itself to be like an TBF Avenger, when they probably should be considering themselves to be like an SBD or Stuka. Does that make sense?

I think the simple answer is that currently the Barracuda isn't declared a dive bomber code-wise.
Looks like an easy fix, I've put it on the to-do list.

Frankly I have no clue.
Do we have other planes in the game already which can fulfill all three tasks (level bombing, dive bombing, torpedo attacks)?
If so, I can rely on what's been done there.
If not, the outcome will be unpredictable ;)

The Ju-88 came to mind. But, there are separate slots for the torpedo carrying variants. And those carry ONLY torpedoes. And IIRC, don't have dive brakes Not sure if that is for historical reasons, or if that is going to be a game limitation.

Perhaps have two versions, one as a dive-bomber and one as a torpedo bomber? It will never be both in the same mission.

The B7A1 Ryusei can do both mission types. Just tested it.
Has torp loadout and dive flaps for 1x500kg or 1x250kg
dive attack..

I am in the process of developing the HMS Furious model. This carrier has no catapult function.
Testing various RN airacraft to check AI controlled performance.
All take off ok except the Barracuda.
With the Barracuda, when the chocks are released, the aircraft begins to move forward but the tail lifts excessively and the props are damaged on the deck.
Question --- Is the CofG correct?

With catapult power added (historically incorrect) there is enough air flow over the tail to prevent the aircraft nosing in.

Little idea ..
Try change in java code FM and attach FM/EM from Fairey Fulmar. After test takeoff again.
If will be all OK, try found which element in FM/EM of Barracuda is wrong and adapt it.

If will be barracuda still takeoff wrong with Fulmar FM is wrong 3D model. Maybe can be problem with size of props ..
And as last thing, do it revision FM for AI. AI fly always differ than player and sometimes need to be fixed.

The CoG is where the Navigator's feet are which is just fine.
I've just tried 20 takeoffs with chocks, different loadout, trim up and neutral, flaps up and landing pos, different fuel loads...
Not once did the plane lift the tail after releasing the chocks.

Just tried it taking of from Test Runway 1 object. I agree with your results Mike.

Problem occurs only on a moving carrier.  Severity of the problem seems to depend on the carrier speed. More speed faster nose over. At lowest speed (4) it just tips enough to lose the props then straightens up and skids off the end of the flightdeck.

Only found this issue with the Barracuda so far. Swordfish, Fulmar and Seafire are all ok. 

Now tested the Albacore. That also works ok.
Tested the TBM-3.  Commences rolling ok. Rips off undercarriage on the ramp. Thats a different problem which I need to work on.
Gladiator II is ok
Hurricane is ok

No rush at all. Its going to take me a while to complete all the remaining work on the ship model.
The Barracuda is one of the key aircraft types to have operating from it when its completed.
Won't be completed until next year. Early next year I hope.

To open a "hash" file (5160C93084104396) you need a tool to transform it into a "class" file (Jode tool).
To read a "class" file you need a Java editor (Eclipe, ...).

Bummer, what a disappointment.
Not only will AI 'cuda refuse to dive bomb moving targets, it will actually refuse to attack moving target (ships) at all using any weapon (bombs) other than Torpedo, be it level bombing or shallow dive. The TBF Avenger, OTOH, will actually attempt to level bomb moving targets (though with abysmal accuracy).
I hope someone could fix this issue (so the 'cuda could at least level bomb moving targets); otherwise, all-British naval battles would be quite a sterile affair, and I really hate having to bring aboard the Corsair for ship bombing roles again.

Am I correct in thinking that AI no dive bomb Cuda is still a thing....  :(  LOVE this plane and just want it to dive bomb like it should.   Sure there is a simple code snatch from one of the other dive bombing planes..?
