Title: Screenshot problem - SOLVED
Post by: ddr on June 23, 2016, 02:38:51 PM
Hello SAS members :), when I take screenshots I have in myscreenshot folder only a 0 bite file, obviously not readable, with and without mod...
I have win 10, integrated intel video card, il-2 4.13.2 and sas modact 6.1 with some mods, like vp modpach.
I tried to modify ram on sas selector, in that case I had ctd...
anyone have similar problem?
thank you in advance, bye!
Francesco

EDIT: thanks to Storebror!
if you have problem with screenshots, try to change compatibility setting on il2fb.exe (for me -win 10- compatibily with xp sp3)

Never seen such a problem before.
Leave the RAM memory at normal on the SAS-seletor.

Use the default screenshot key in IL2 it works good.
Its the "Print Screen" button.
Saves the file as *.tga in you game root directory.

Under setup misc setting in the gui you can set the screenshots to jpg or tga.
A new folder is created called screenshots in the root directory.

The VP-Modpack is already set up to take screenshots like any other game-version,
it also uses inside the #SAS section a folder named... "TGA screenshot" if you wish to see screens in TGA, if
you want them in Jpeg just place a "-" (minus sign) in front of the name folder
so the game will not read that file.

Have you been making changes to the conf.ini file lately and did something?
I can always post here my Conf.ini file listing for you.

Did you place your IL2-1946 game in the "Program Files" or "Program Files(x86)' ?
Don´t do that.
Place the game outside of that area, so you are able to make it work properly.

In your Conf.ini file you should see the following word...
ScreenshotType=1

This is what it does...
ScreenshotType=0 (0 = screenshots are saved as TGA, 1 = screenshots are saved as JPG, 2 = screenshots are saved as TGA and JPG)

Something error lines may be recorded in your error log file ?

In example, cannot write screenshotXXX.tga in il2/MyScreenshot , disk full , etc.

Thank you for answering,
yes, I installed IL-2 on program files(x86) folder :( and yes, I forgot to read on hs_err_pid file:
Code: [Select]
An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM.
Unexpected Signal : EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION occurred at PC=0x654484e6
Function name=Java_com_maddox_il2_fm_FMMath_nInitSeed
Library=C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\DT.dll

Current Java thread:
at com.maddox.opengl.util.ScrShot.getScreenShot(Native Method)
at com.maddox.opengl.util.ScrShot.grab(ScrShot.java:13)[\code]
I use directX (with OpenGL I have "flickering"), maybe is this the problem?
oh, and stangely in conf.ini I haven't nothing like ScreenshotType= (but I select jpg on miscellaneous setup): I tried to add, with no result

VP modpack is for IL-2 4.12.2, not 4.13.2.
Modded games should not be installed to a "Program Files" subdirectory.

Copy-paste the entire il-2 folder in another location is not enought, right?
I tried it, but same results, with and without mods (0 bite unreadable files)... I'm a n00b, or today is a too hot afternoon to play sturmovick? :)
screenshots are not really necessary, but nice: there are other programs can I use? fraps?
thank you and bye

Did you try running your il2fb.exe in compatibility mode?
I think I remember that this solved issues for other Win10 users.
Create a link to the il2fb.exe and activate the Compatibility Mode on that link, selecting either XP, Vista or 7 as emulated layer.

Win 10; IL-2 without problems. May be combination of integrated GPU and Win 10 - since I am using standalone GPU by now. I will try switching back to integrated and see if that is issue.
Problem may be even somewhere else.

For screenshots, technically, you can use OBS - it's free and can do more things than Fraps... but you'd be running one more program in the background - and it can be tricky to set properly (I can help with it). (Remember, by default, OBS is for streaming purposes, but should be able to do screenshots as well.)

I use fraps for every game.

ReShade can be used too, it has an own screenshot feature builtin generating lossless well compressed png images (if you wish).

Maybe try what Max suggested Franceco, eneable it in the config.ini and "Under setup misc setting in the gui you can set the screenshots to jpg or tga."
TBH I did not know this. :P

As for reshade..Mike, as long as it works, yes, for me SweetFX works flawless in Falcon BMS and not at all in IL-2...(also I do not need it, gapa does anything I wanted well).

tried but no results

yes, I tried today, with strange results... after an all black monster tga screenshot of 36916x36964 - but only 5mb (???), now I have xp sp3 compatibility: screenshot finally ok, but IL-2 resets all graphics and wide screen... and when I change them, CTD (?)
maybe a completely new install in other folders than program file is a good solution?
thank you for help, by the way
p.s. I start il-2 so many times in this 2 days than I noticed all new spashscreen, also the xfiles one... very nice! :)

EDIT: resolution sets on conf.ini, so no more ctd changing resolution (why it appened?), but now I lost my pilots and key sets (why?? I changed only resolution!)
altrough the screenshot problem is - SOLVED -
Thank Storebror and other members for help! :)

Maybe your files are all over the place inside your Hardrive.
It is normal if you do not do it at least once a month.

TIME to do a disc fragmentation.
Leave the pc alone and go eat lunch, while it places all your files in order.
When you come back in 1 hour, RE-START your pc and maybe all is well again.

If you are just using the VP-Modpack, everything is already prepared for you
to start flying and enjoying the game., No modding needed. It is all good to go.
BUT
if you add the game version 4.13 in it, it will cause problems.
The VP-Modpack is based on the 4.12 game version. So stick with using mods only
good for 4.12.

I used HSFX 7.03 Expert mode for a couple of years. Because of ending of development of HSFX and enormous content of BAT I decided change to BAT. I found BAT brilliant, the best of all my years with Il 2 Sturmovik. At the moment I’m using the BAT 3.5. Musketeer. My PC runs with Win 7 Home Premium. Although I tried building a mission with more than 10 thousand user-objects, the game runs perfectly.
But there is a problem, without solving them I can’t use BAT, what I find very unhappy. I can’t take any screenshot. The Screenshot folder in the root Il-2 Sturmovik 1946 folder is always empty. When using the PrintScreen key for Screenshot, the game gets stuck for a less than a second.

I tried to solve this problem with the help of max_thehitmanm i.e. change the screenshot setting to *.tga file. Without any effect. Tried all possible settings (*jpg, *tga, *jpg + *tga).

I tried also solution advised by SAS~Storebror – run the il2fb.exe in compatibility mode. Again without any effect.
My corresondong conf.ini settings now are:
ScreenshotType=1
jpgQuality=1.0

If anyone have the same problem, or better if there is a solution I can’t find, please, share your experience with me. Any advice would be a great help. I personally prefer the *jpg file type.
Thank you, sincerely

You have this in your conf.ini?

Code: [Select]
[HotKey game]
PrintScreen=ScreenShot

Thank you for your reply.
Unfortunately I have to say I have this line in my conf.ini file. I suppose that the conf.ini in root Il-2 Sturmovik 1946 folder is the only one conf.ini and there aren’t any other conf.ini in subfolders.
So the cause of my problem is probably somewhere else.
Thank you once more,
HaFu1939

Have you got a folder in your root folder called "MyScreenShots" If not create one and you´ll have them there.

No, I have in my root folder only a folder called “Screenshots”, so as is the original name of this folder since I remember (2006?). I tried to create a folder named as you advised.
And then… a wonder happened!!! I have my excellent, brilliant, beloved screenshots. Small mistake in folder name can cause such an annoying problem.
I’ve never heard or read I have to rename my screenshot folder to "MyScreenShots". And then came your advice and with it a solution.
Sir, I’m very grateful to you. You solved my painful problem. Now I’m ready to start my moving from HSFX to BAT.
Sincerely,
HaFu1939
