Title: ag&HRt_ebro1938 NEW 27-FEB-2011 NEW 4.10? (NEW 27-2-11) [4.09] [4.10]
Post by: ftarquisa on August 15, 2009, 11:08:08 AM
hi all, this a new edition of HRt_ebro1938GCE map, from the Halcones Rojos, and from here on from agracier as well

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1520386/ag%26HRt_ebro1938GCE_FEB2011c.7z (FEB 28, 2011)

it is an improvement, mainly it looks better, I would say 4.09 so far, it works with 4.10 & 4.10.1 so far so good

PLEASE TRY IT UNDER 4..... AND LET US KNOW SHOULD THERE BE A PROBLEM

you will need the WoodPack, that you can get here:

http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/1520386/WoodPack.rar (http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/1520386/WoodPack.rar)

to be installed in

Hi, i downloaded your map but am a little puzzled as to where to put the WoodPack folder. I found the file marke in the readme as folder i presume are Forrest and Trees, but there are two others called Autmn and Summer in the Forrest folder. Do i simply put the files into this folder beside the two sub-folders?
Looking forward to getting this runing and getting my Ratta up against the the new 109 B and the rest of the Falange legion.

cheers

just a comment, we at HR prefer to call "mosca", rather than "rata", to our Polikarpov I-16

Working on a some Spanish missions for the Ebro map, test flew it, and discovered how differcult it was to catch the SB bombers! just like in real, Luftwaffe called them Martin bombers though.

Does anyone of you have a map showing the frontline before and the battle of Teruel?, or could you maybe draw it for me please!

Point taken Rata means Rat, not complimentary. Still though a Freudian slip on the part of bad guys who had distinct problems with the I-16. A shame the Republic had so few.
On a tangent, there is a series on STV about the Scottish members of the international Brigade showing at the moment, which might be of intrest to people intrested in the Spanish civil war.

Hi, had the map up and flew around a bit with the new MOSCA with the cyclone engine. Ah the joys of steep quick dives and no grav feed problems with the engine.
In regard to the map, it's stunningly good except for one thing, the rivers in the distance seem to be a very light blue, this corrects as you get closer. I know the map is a beta and not the finished article but you said you wanted feed-back.
The landscape generally is superb catching the Semi-arid nature of the area, mixed patched of brown sand with green grassy areas and trees.
I can't wait for this to be finished, with a few more planes modded to add variety it will be a great adjunct to the Il2 sim. Especially as i have always loved the interwar planes as having great character.

Cheers and great work
Alban

Even so, doesn´t Mosca mean a fly in Spanish? No offense intended, but flies are very unhealthy, dirty and disease carrying insects. Loathsome things. Not very complimentary as a name either I´d think ...

fly is not taken as a bad word in Spanish, which indeed is what mosca means, it has some other meanings like very light weight (boxing "peso mosca"), while rata has no other meaning that I'm aware of..

Hi, sorry i started this, Rata means Rat in Spanish and was the nickname given to the I-16 by the Falangists, at once a pejorative and also a back handed compliment to it's effectiveness. Mosca means fly and refers both the the diminutive size of the plane and the noise it made, as noted above also refers to it meaning light weight, as in the English Flyweight to describe a light weight class of something. But the term Rata tends to have stuck with this design, often not in italics.

I hope this clarifies
Alban

The term "rata" was give to the plane when the JU-52 bombed Madrid, on november ´36 and the first "Mosca" arrived from Russia because the tactic was flying low almost at the roofs height and climbing fast attacking the belly unprotected of the bombers.
To the german flyers, they seems like rats coming out of the underground
The term "Mosca" came from the boxes where the planes coming packed, stenciled was Mockba (Moscu) which sound much like "Mosca" in spanish

We the "reds" prefer call it Mosca  :D :D

hi fenbeiduo,
sorry to learn you have got troubles with the map, I have checked and it is ok, but for a very tiny file "all.ini" that should have been "add_to_all.ini" and a different content..
you can fix it if you want, but do not need to, the whole file has been corrected and is just on the upload right now,
in half an hour will hopefuly be done.

Yeah, much better. Another issue was Garanpinillos was not completely flat as the planes did not take off in a line, but a sort of echelon formation.

And another thing - could you please CLEARLY indicate where to put the Woodpack exactly in the first post? An average users (including myself) would have difficulty in installing it.

ftarquisa, can I add some constructive criticism?
Amposta is on the side of the river and the bridge of the Valencia-Barcelona road starts in the town as the road crosses the entire town. Not now but from before the war until the 60's.
Tortosa is on the side of the river too, with parts of the town on each side.
Peñiscola should be placed in the small peninsula and have a castle wall.

Escartón - there is a hill beforethe airfield - it hinders when taking off and landing. I think it would be useful to have all the airfields tested on autoplilot taking off and landing.

hi ftarquisa, just downloaded the new version: tried everything but, at the beginning I always get a "landscape" (texture related normally" error.... Then I looked carefully in load.ini and found some uncorrect (the path was not correct at least I think so) remaindings to textures. Modified that and was able to load the map but with a totally weird look! Of course I made some mistakes but I kindly ask you to check.
I had the previous one and worked well; I'd really like to get this new one!
Thks a best regards, gianluca

PS noticed now the warnings, oops! I go and try again....

sorry to hear that gianluca, I will try it from scratch, although, so far, I have not had any problem with it. In the mean time, could you check if you are missing something (when you end up with the light blue screen after map loading failure, pressing shift-tab shows warnings and remarks made by the program that can be a good hint at what is going on). You might be lacking something, like the woodpack, for instance. Nevertheless I will try it from scratch to make sure I am not overseeing something..

The files with 'Hier.mesh' are most likely parts of aircraft and should have nothing to do with loading a map as such. Possibly one of the modded aircraft in your game is missing parts.

The other objects I cannot find in my (extensive) static.ini either, but from the filenames I surmise they are part of a ground-crew objects pack, human figures that can be used to populate an airfield ...

However you don't say if the mission you are trying to load/fly is a simple try-out mission to see if the map works for you, or if it is a mission with various aircraft and objects. It is quite possible that if you change aircraft and/or remove several of the objects in the mission, that the map will work for you.

The best way to check for missing objects in a map that won't fly or save is to use the Universal Static.ini Checker:

I was just running a QMB mission on the Ebro map. After ending the mission I had a look at my log.lst.where I noticed the different Internal errors as well as the "not found objects.".

Today I ran the Universal_static.ini checker V.1.3 for this map but the result was negative ( no missing objects ).

Thanks for your help .

Madcop. ;D

I would like to suggest a WINTER version of the same map, for historical correctness: the Battle for Teruel was fought from December 15th, 1937 to February 20th, 1938, and the weather was horrible, with about 4 feet snow (120 cm) and temperature that fell down to 18 to 20 degrees Celsius UNDER Zero. it was a terrible winter.
So a winter version for your Ebro Map is, IMHO, most needed for Campaign building.

I tried making a map centered around Teruel only, also for the winter fighting of '37-'38. But it appears to be more of a job than at first would seem. Not only because of a dearth of good winter textures, but also because not all the areas would have been covered with snow - for instance going lower down to the coast one doesn't find snow in the winter.

This means the use of 2 sets of texture types : winter and a somewhat less greener landscape type, as well as intermediate textures so as not to make transitions too abrupt. So, this results in either simplified landscapes or awful looking areas where white and green are adjacent to each other.

And to make it a bit more difficult, much of the terrain around Teruel is very mountainous and hilly and sometimes that looks a bit unreal in Il-2 ... like gobs of whipped cream heaped all over the place. The try-out map I did of the area was a bit disappointing in the end, even though I had good hopes.

Teruel in the winter will be a harder map to make than one would think ...

To get a more detailed and useful idea of what the problem is, you should try using the command <shift>+<tab> at the same time, just after your map has failed to load. Somewhere in the multitude of lines, you will see a message-line with ERROR in it ... this will usually better describe what is wrong with the loading ...

You may perhaps wish to turn off the landscape when trying to read the lines ...  (use key F10 to toggle landscape on/off)

ton, could you explain what have you got wrong wiyh the map?, I would very much appreciate your findings.
Regarding the black spots you mention, probably it is due to your runing verssions 4.10 or 4.10.1, if so, please notice that, for the time being, this map is prepared for version 4.9 only (this is explained inthe front message). Thank you in advance.

The image you are showing in your screenshot is not the error message you get when you use the keys <shift>+<tab> when the map fails to load.

When you get the blue screen and the map fails to load, just use <shift>+<tab> and you will get a screen full of white text lines. Among those lines there will be a number of lines containing 'ERROR' (in capitals) ...

Those are the lines that will tell you why the map won't load.

Please disregard the error you have been posting screenshots of. It doesn't give you a clue of what is wrong specifically. You need to use <shift>+<tab> (at the same time).

In the download there are the _tex folder with textures...I just installed it this morning and work flawless!

When in such situation try to open the texture from the folder with any picture viewer program...if not open corrupted d/l and redownload the whole pack!
