This mod added some grass in close area of airstrip:

Much needed mod, now some cockpit shadows and FM revisits and the game is en par ;)
Lovely idea, did something similar, tiring handmade, on one of the Quicks for Reno.

Tested in 4.12 on MTO, Crimea, Woodlark, Ifni3...no grass. :(

It seems that this mod works on the edges of the tracks.
If the airport is done by a single plate (eg Slovakia) then indeed there is no grass.

Yoinks ! I've just seen this now  :-[

Very cool Rawners to add one of the most lacking scenic aspects missing in to the game.

Perfect for a current project.  ;D

I guess the base groundsmen are on R and R at the local town getting drunk and having a good 'ol time ha ha.

It does add a lot of realism  ;D :D ;)

I hope something can be done about the pop up effect which is very noticable.
And perhaps an idea to have the grass a bit more at random spreaded? Now the grass is a bit too much in straight lines parallel to the airstrip. For my feeling it has a bit the look of a kitchen garden at the moment.

I know what you mean but in game it looks like this:

We also have to take in consideration that lighting on objects is different than on landscape. Which makes grass sticks out a bit too much.
A problematic issue that still occurs in nowadays flight sims but in a less noticable way. I hope I will see the day that objects blend very well with surrounding landscapes in flight sims.
Nor COD, nor DCS, nor BoS, nor RoF tackles the issue. Not that I have one of these games, my opinions are based on screenshots and videos.  ;)

By the way, in the past I added a lot of grass on an airfield as a try out and noticed that with too much grass the pop up effect was horrible and plane exploded when taxiing through it.

Good for cockpit screenies though! :)

I also tried to place many bushes around Reno Stead Airfield in the Reno mod in one Quick mission (RedNone) and it works. The popup effect very much depends on the chosen bush as well. :P

This would be perfect if two things happened:

Brushes triggered by airfield markings as per FMB. Atm many maps simply do not show the effect.

And, secondly, another bush/grass model, some from the FMB list have bigger popup distance and "only" sport the weird lighting part. Those spread over a wider area....that would rock.

I gladly research which brushes have the longest visibly distance ingame.

Hi all,

In my 4.09m + UP2.01+lot of mods and maps the grass unfortunately does not shows up,while I have the complete file put in my modsfolder.
 :(

I use UP2.01 only and as I mentioned this mod works great!
But you may be in the same case that was mentioned above ... Your airstrip are perhaps the "plates"!
In this case reread the post from the beginning!

For the blank plates try to duplicate the "Ground" folder under the name "Blank".
Example path: #SAS\00_Grass\3do\Airfield\Blank\Runway\body.msh
I tried the concrete runways but it did not work for some reason.

Yes. Modify  the visibility distance is simple:

in file body.msh change this parameters:

firt line - 60 to .... what you have
next line must be bigger then first etc.

About density - needed new meshes.

I believe that is what is it.
It is the file where the 3d-model has its information on how it is created and how it is viewed.
That is what makes the 3d-model.
You change anything in that mesh file and your model may not look correct.

Dear Ranwers,

I use your mod and cannot imagine the game without this beautiful grass! But at night missions I have to swicth the mod off, cause the grass shines bright. And switch on again for the day ones. Is it possible somehow to fix this issue? What can be done? What makes the grass shine in comparison with other trees which do not? Is it possible to do smth with it? The lanscape is excellent with your grass!

Just place a few runway lights, and convince yourself that the lights are illuminating the grass.  ;D

Cool! thanks Mick. Can the rendering distance be slightly increased with such simple edits? Double should be enough to cover most of a runway, at least from the cockpit POV.
