Title: USS Iowa Class Battleships Pack v1.1 [4.09] [4.10] [4.11] [4.12]
Post by: The Radge on May 08, 2014, 05:33:34 AM
Hello everyone! :)

I am glad to present here a very interesting thing:

USS Iowa Class Battleships Pack v1.1

This includes:
4 ships: USS Iowa (BB-61), USS New Jersey (BB-62), USS Missouri (BB-63) and USS Wisconsin (BB-64)
8 slots for them: 4 slots - every ship painted after launching, 3 slots for they 42-45 camouflaging and one slot "Iowa Generic" - afterwar non-painted ship.

(click the pic to DL v1.1)

new DL link: https://www.mediafire.com/file/n31lz1lx7znz3r8/Entries_and_classes_for_the_Iowa_Class_Pack_v1.1.7z

               Shortly features of the update:
               1) giving to the ship, except hull, shining offered by BOYAN
               2) fixed the semi-transparent parts of the textures
               3) fixing the differing of the main gun textures colour from the rest ship, that could be saw in different time of day

All the 3D models of ships are packed in SFS because of enormous size and to load in game quicker.

INSTALLATION NOTES:

1. Delete Single Iowa mod, if you have one
2. Put file 3do_USS_Iowa_Class_BBs.sfs into your SFS_AUTO folder, OR put it in the main game's directory and add lines to your .rc
3. Put folder USS_Iowa_Class_BBs to your #SAS or #UP or Mods of any another folder that contains all your mods (it MUST be above the folder that contains single Iowa or Yamato ship, if it isn't so, change the USS_Iowa_Class folder name to become so)
4. Enter all the necessary enteries to your .ini files
5. Enjoy! ;)

! Important note: all textures are HD, so you need High Resolution Texture Mod (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=33239.0)

P.S. Would be twice cool if you have SAS Engine mod (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=37774.0), then you will be able to use catapults ;)

BOYAN                                    Noticing bug with too high in-water ship position; giving an idea to give ship a shining

deSAD                                    The idea of making this pack, creating slots for all the new ships; "Kicking" and instructing me all the way of making skins, what is his BIG merit

Great pack!

When you faces 70% CTD in installing The Radge's Iowa pack,
that may be caused by classfiles conflict with old Diving_Hawks ones.
Then , disable "Ship_JFC_Classes" folder with renaming to "-Ship_JFC_Classes" (adding - before the name letters).

Great job mr. Radge. The ships look great! Not sure I deserve a place in the cradits, I only whined about the height...
Has anybody tested them in 4.09? Is it possible to use 1024 textures?

Hello, Boyan! :) Thank you! About the credits... well, I think different ;)

In 4.09 should work...

About textures: what do you mean? In 2048 they look really much more beautiful, but, if you want, I can make 1024 textures size patch :-\

Just asking, performance vise... I`ll try them out on my 4.09. The old Iowa mod didn`t work...

Now, here is something I`ve been thinking to post as a request for Iowa class ships... The current model represent the original 1943 Iowa bridge. She and New Jersey had the original up until 1945 IIRC, when they got the modified one, the way they look today.... Missouri and Wisconsin got the modified one as they were built, so they already had it in mid 1944... Would someone be willing to model the modified bridge?

Some real life shots for comparison...

Original, currently in game...

Well, that's a good wish, but I'm not sure about making this, because I don't work with 3D :( Only may be if someone will wish to be a volunteer ;)

Btw, disable the original Iowa mod before trying to run this - otherwise you will face a 70% CTD.

The Radge:

Great stuff man. Got it in and running after a minor misunderstanding about the class files - I thought everything was in the .sfs file and the class files were only to replace those in the original Iowa from Diving_Hawk.

Anyway, after that it's a real thrill to fly alongside them at zero altitude!

As one who has painted the 1944 dazzle schemes on other USN ships I know the challenges faced by parts that don't align as they would in real life. You've done a masterful job on these.

Keep up the great work.

Thanks Radge for these Battleships :), and I'm now getting them work on my DBW1.71.

Now that we already have WWII Iowa class battleship, is there any idea of making a modernized Iowa? since these ships are serving in navy even in 90's Gulf War! Or is there any one interested in a South Dakota class or North Carolina?

Again THX for your work~

Hello, Wplusaf! You're welcome ;) About very-late Iowa... Not really sure that it's needed, I think Iowa Generic is enough :)
But about SD and NC - very high chance that I'll reskin them! And Pennsylvania is also so.
Well, sorry, I misunderstood you :( As soon as I do not work with 3D, I can only make a Tennessee (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=20856.0), Colorado (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=20755.0) and Arizona reskins and their sisterships, too... :-\

No need to apologize, Radge. We all appreciate your work :)
About the very-late Iowa I think we may use them to make our Korea War mission much more interesting. Besides that, late Iowa class also took part in series of cold war conflicts, Vietnam war, Cuba crisis, etc..... That's why I think a modern Iowa would be a great add-on to this game~

So, you want the thing that I posted in the Iowa BB-61 reskin topic, applied to all the ships? Do you want them to have own slots?

With all these Iowa mods, would someone possibly be working on the Montana class? Would be an awesome what if mod...;) wouldn't be too hard (I don't think) as they are essentially an enlarged Iowa with an extra stern turret

Ok, this is what I have. Original Iowa 1.1 did`t work on my 4.09, but 1.2 works ok. Your pack unfortunately doesn`t work. Now, HD mod also doesn`t work for me, instant CTD when I try to select HD skin for aircraft. As for your Iowas, they don`t show up when I select them in FMB, or appear when I try to put them on map.

This is my log...

I think, yes. I used the way that can be used in SAS ModAct: just put the SFS file to folder SFS_AUTO, in main game's directory.

I don`t have SFS_AUTO folder in 4.09, UP2.01. Do I create one then? I put the sfs file in main game folder...

Well, I don't know, how to help you :( May be SAS~ members  do know, how to do that in your installation... You also may try to add
this:

Code: [Select]
@load com.maddox.rts.cmd.CmdSFSAutoMount NAME sfsautomount \
HELP sfsautomount [MOUNT <folder name>] [UNMOUNT <folder name>]
@sfsautomount MOUNT SFS_AUTO

After @sfs MOUNT 3do_USS_Iowa_Class_BBs.sfs
in your .rc

Nope, didn`t help. Thanks anyway, mr. Radge. Would it be possible to add some files from your sfs archive to Iowa 1.2 install which works on my install? At least 3d stuff and high in-water ship position fixes from mr. Ten010?

Well, I can guess that the High Tex mod is not compatible with your version...

Try to delete the Hull512_new.tga and Hull512_dm_new.tga files,
then copy/paste the Hull256_new.tga and Hull256_dm_new.tga
and rename them to the Hull512_new.tga and Hull512_dm_new.tga :)

This line means than either you don't correctly installed the HD mod, or the game doesn't see it rightly, I think.

It works now with renaming, thank you mr. Radge, and I apologize for all the problems... Thanks for your instant help! Will find out if the HD mod was incorrectly installed, but I checked already before... May be conflict with other mods...

I`ve found some good modified bridge drawings, will post a request for it soon, maybe someone will be willing to model it.

Also, I tested some numbers on Hull, SST, sec guns and gun mat files... I wanted to see if little shining would work on them, as on Yorktown class carriers...

So, these values in mat files:

  Specular 0.2
  SpecularPow 4

make some reflections, most noticeable on hull and superstructure, especially earlier and later in day, 8-9 am, 17-18 pm... Just wanted to share it with you. I use it on Essex class long hulls and, USN DDs.

Have not checked the site for the past months (or a year) due to extreme free time shortage.
I come back today and what do I see?

Some people team up and take this ship to a very higher level like it deserves!
Congratulations to everyone involved in this.
This is the best surprise I could be offered when I chose to check the site again.

Hat's off  gents!  ;)

EDIT: I would like to also say hello again to all the gents I've known here in the past but I don't want to create a gay "Hello I'm back thread"
Anyway I'm still alive fyi I had a big break from il2 due to free time shortage. I had a few pms regarding Mods, just be advised before sending I might not see them nowadays. EDIT_END

Great job Radge and I hope you can esxuse the small off topic section above

Diving Hawk himself!! Weeee!!! Hello, man, thank you very much for the Iowa Ship! :)
It is so cool to see you after you weren't here for so long time!
And thank you for the good appreciations and also for that you haven't kicked us for this :D (because we made it without your direct permission)

By the way, we with deSAD and western0221 are also thinking about your Yamato model improvement...
I want to draw HD skins, deSAD - classes again, and western - 3D editing (because also we would like to create the Musashi)
Will you accept that? Please!! It will be so magnificently :)

Thank you again for the good opinion and welcome back, mr. Hawk

Cheers!

Sure go ahead, surprise us again !

Last time I checked all my work was free for all to modify , edit or use to make a better mod / integrate in a seperate mod provided he gave the same possibility for his mod using stuff from my ones so that others could continue to improve it.
This will not change.

Modders and people in general need to understand that working together and letting people use their work is the only way il2 modding scene can keep this experience positive over the long run.
It is bad enough that this was not realized back when the population for il2 was more than healthy when modding first came around (and everyone knows how that ended up).

We don't need any more divas in my opinion (you don't have to agree)!

Sorry radge but I think you forgot folder USS_Iowa_Class_BBs and .ini lines in your 1.1ver donwload
It just contains 3do_USS_Iowa_Pack_v1.1.sfs file
Facepalm  :P

Hi Rage

Thanks for these wonderful re-paints, they look really great.
Look forward to your future work.
Are you still planning to repaint USS Early BBs (Arizona, Tennesse and Colorado)?

Cheers

Hello! :)
Thanks for the compliments :)
Yes, I had idea to repaint other US BBs,
but now I have to do some other interesting mods
and updates for my mods so...
I don't think that the other repaints will come quite soon, sorry... :-X

By the way, deSAD gave me the classes and entries from the 1.0 version of the Iowa pack.
they are much better than I gave as the 1.1 version.
So I post at the first page that entries and classes (only them, you still need the .sfs file of the 1.1 version, be careful, please!).
Million thanks to deSAD that he saved them :D

Hello,

New to Il-2 MODs and such so if I say anything wrong I'm sorry.  I've gotten pretty good at installing ships but this one seems different and I can't get it to work.  I've added the 3do_USS_Iowa_Pack_v1.1 to my SFS_Auto Folder, added the USS_Iowa_Class_BBs to my #SAS folder with the class files, and added the appropriate verbiage to the cheif, ships, and stationary ini files.  Still getting a 70% CTD.

All the other ships have had a 3do folder in them but this one has me put a 3do folder in the SFS_Auto folder???  I've also read that I need to update an .rc file in previous responses I'm not sure what that is didn't see that in the instrucations.

Any help is appreciated.

Ohh here is the log file I got if that'll help narrow it down.

I have been able to make  a USS IOWA working in BAT-JTW  as well and was wondering how to fix the bug of the ship being too high in the water. If it is fixed by just some adjusting values in the files I would be thankful for advise. Besides that a modern version of her would be awesome for new scenarios.

In my VP Modpack 14.12.2m+SAS.Mod.Act 5.03 I have exactly the same 70% error and the game crashes :(
I've added the 3do_USS_Iowa_Pack_v1.1 to my SFS_Auto Folder, added the USS_Iowa_Class_BBs to my #SAS folder with the class files, and added the appropriate verbiage to the cheif, ships, and stationary ini files.... and  70% CTD.  Please help!

Hi KENZO, I'm using the same version of the game as you, everything works as it should, the only thing I did differently from the instructions was to rename the USS_Iowa_Class_BBs folder to SHIPS_USS_Iowa_Class_Pack_v1.1, if you want I'll send you the cheif, ships and stationary files so you can compare entries,

Thanks for the answer Piotrek, I did as you suggested and renamed the folder but it didn't help anything, I still have 70% CTD... :/
This Iowa class ships familli is the only ships I couldn't install to my 4.12.2 VP Modpack, cause it's the only one case where .sfs files are used and not a normal ship folder like for other ships.
Which also makes me sad because I can't open .sfs files and modify the skins... :/ One of the reasons why I still prefer to use my old VP over BAT are those .sfs files - which unfortunately I don't know how to modify... :/
If you can, please send your files, we'll see if that helps, and thanks again! :)

Jesli mozesz to podeslij swoje pliki, zobaczymy czy cos to pomoze, no i raz jeszcze dzięki! :)

Thanks Piotrek for the files but they sadly didn't help.... The problem is with the Iowa Class folder, even if I rename it, it still causes this 70% CTD, and once I remove it from the #SAS mods folder, the game works fine. My guess is that some other class files must conflict with those from Iowa.

Since my installation of 4.12.2 VP Modpack grow after years of tuning to quite big size (I keep a copy of it on my hard drive and just came back to it after many years of adding various mods, cause I didn't want to start from scratch after so long time spent on tuning it), so probably some other mods are interfering with this Iowa but I can't guessed which one.

But in order not to give up and try other solutions, I just installed fresh clean installs of VP modpack and Iowa showed up on the FMB Ships list and on the map (finally a partial success!), but on the Stationary Ships list they are visible in the preview but I'm not able to add them to the map, so I managed to solve the half of the problem, and I don't know what else I can do to make Iowa work completely? Ehh... This is strange issue for me - if it work fine as Ships why not also as Stationary Ships? This is beyond my knowledge of adding new ships to IL-2...

IIRC Radge used a motherclass for all his ships....maybe you're adding an older version , try to search into his last work and check between those classfiles and the Iowa's ones........

Unfortunately I can't help :( the only thing I can suggest is Total Moder for SFS files and 3do_USS_Iowa_Pack_v1.1 as 7z. :

...CTD at 70% stationaries are wrong. You possibly had an other version and older stationaries entries may still be in there.
Review all lines in your stationary.ini for all ships entries. Likewise revise technic.ini for no lingering past entries.
If you suppress all stationaries of this mod and any previous ones temporarily,  you can check if the ships by themselves do work.

Still , static class files conflict are possible; mods are use first, sfs are superseded by mods. However I have experienced class conflict  at times even when loadings are properly ordered. Happens.
I'm Not using VP pack. I use 412.2 SAS5.3 with this "IOWA sfs mod" for a long while.
(..its good policy while testing new mods to go for the stationnaries separately and at the very last after the mods are proven to work first and foremost whitout the stationaries active yet ).
Hope this helps.
PS: ...when removing/replacing a mod, active stationaries pointing to the original mod will CTD the game.

"Review all lines in your stationary.ini for all ships entries. Likewise revise technic.ini for no lingering past entries." - yes, I do this every time I add/remove a new object (plane or ship) and I did it the same this time.

Thinking that other mods might be conflicting with Iowa_pack in my most advanced modded version of VP in years, I installed fresh clean installs of VP modpack over fresh install of 4.12.2 with no new mods.
I added then only the Iowa_Pack v1.1 and with result - Iowa familly ships showed up on the FMB Ships list and on the map, but on the Stationary Ships list they are still only visible in the preview but I'm not able to add them to the map...

As for the advanced modded version of my VP, when using suggestions from western0221: "When you faces 70% CTD in installing The Radge's Iowa pack, that may be caused by classfiles conflict with old Diving_Hawks ones. Then , disable "Ship_JFC_Classes" folder with renaming to "-Ship_JFC_Classes" (adding - before the name letters)."
- when I disable/remove the Ship_JFC_Classes it will work for the Iowa_Pack, but again only partially - in FMB they appear as Ships but not as Stationary Ships - identically as in the completely fresh unmodded version of VP modpack. Also unfortunately, downside to this is that the battleship Yamato, which shares the same Ship_JFC_Classes doesn't work either without them in VP.

So in summary from all of my experience:
1) Iowa_pack v1.1 conflicts with Ship_JFC_Classes as stated before, so you have to choose whether Diving_Hawks single Iowa and Yamato OR  Iowa_pack.
2) Iowa_pack v1.1 works on fresh unmodded version of VP modack - but only in Ships section and not in Stationary ships.
3) I still don't know what else I can do, to make Iowa-pack v1.1 work fully (Ships and Stationary ship) in VP Modpack?...  :/
