Title: IJN Battle Ship "Ise 1944-1945"
Post by: damawo on December 28, 2013, 12:46:23 PM
Hi, I post this issue because I passed the milestone importing based 3D model in Il-2 system.
Now I learn how to work the ships and what I should do for importing her in Il-2.
To tell the truth, The D4Y2 I released before is for her fer.

I put early version of Ise[2014/07/28] for expert.
This file contains very simplified readme.
From previous version [14/03/08], description of ship.ini was changed.
Pls. overwrite lines of ships_ini_gun and ships_ini_ship.

This mod needs High resolution Mod.

Wow, the carrier-battleships "Ise" and "Hyuga"...... there are a few vids of their wrecks on Youtube. They were both sunk in shallow water off Kure in 1945, the wrecks were scrapped post-war.

Looks very good so far, it will be a very nice addition to AG-51's target list.....lol

Would love to see you do some of the really sleek and beautiful IJN Cruisers, the only one we have in game in the Kuma, it's old and under gunned, there were some very nice Seaplane cruisers too....

can't wait to load this new one into game

Cheers

Hoss

awesome! i also second Hoss' suggestion, for more cruisers - this, however, looks really great, and we will be happy to see her on the IL2 seas! :D

You have created a very beautiful model!
Thank you Damawo

To compensate for the weight loss caused by the removal of the two aft turrets a thick layer of cement was poured on the flight deck, which of course also increased horizontal protection. In one of the vids you can see chunks of grey cement on what was left of the flight deck. The cement does not seem to have any reinforcing though.

Always open to more IJN ships.

My only question is: Are you planning to do the carrier-battleship only? Or are you going to do a no-flightdeck version?

Thanks for the great project. Perhaps soon appear in a new patch or hsfx. We have for Pacific only CL Kuma and BB Yamato, there is no classic BB or CA.

Hi all.
Thanks for cheering.

Today, I post the testshot of 128mmX28 rocket launcher.
The smoke effect of RL X 3 in one side dropped FPS slightly.
I can't image the result when I add all AA Guns!

And I'm encountering problems that not spawn-able flight deck and non-dropping shadow on it.
(I could manage to land on)
I need more time to solve it.

I don't have plan for other version now.
One biggest reason why I make Ise in this period is My grandfather was crew of her from s18-remodeling to the end of Ise at Kure-port.

It was possible also land here? I think that Suisei started with the help of a catapult, then had to go back only to the mainland.

Um... It looks rather suicidal but I think yes. I believe there where strings on the deck just like an aircraft carrier...

Wow interesting. I wasn't aware off such rocked launchers on ships.

The Royal Navy also used rockets for AAA, a 20 rocket mount.
Details here: http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNBR_UP.htm

Apparently spectacular but ineffective. They were all replaced at the earliest opportunity.

Yes, pilot couldn't land on Ise/Heiuga's(Hyuga) flight deck, they had to land on other carrier or land base.

Wow interesting. I wasn't aware off such rocked launchers on ships.

This rocket has instability of burning, and this makes it impossible to expect direct hit.
And rocket generate a large amount of smoke.
This smoke effectively?block the bomber and torpedo bomber entering bombardment course.

Ofcourse gunnery on the tail of flight deck lost eyesight when launching rockets!

Is there anything specifically that would prevent this from working in 4.10.1 / DBW?  I know the amidships turrets would have restricted fields of fire, but anything else?

Hello Damawo! Cool ship you have made, thanks for this! :)
I've made some testing today... Mates, if you want to use this beautiful ship as a aircraft carrier to take off from her, with SAS Engine mod (http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=37774.0), you can do that adding the following lines to your Catapults.ini (...com/maddox/il2/objects/Catapults.ini) ;) :) Sure you'd like it 8)

Code: [Select]
[IJNIseBB]
dCatapultOffsetX 2.0
dCatapultOffsetY 4.0
dCatapultYaw 7.9
catapultPower 20
bSteamCatapult 1

(tested with D4Y2, 100% fuel and 500 kg bomb; Ise's speed 5 km/h)

I will divide the slot of Ise for normal situation and firing situation.

Is there anything specifically that would prevent this from working in 4.10.1 / DBW?  I know the amidships turrets would have restricted fields of fire, but anything else?

I checked that this mod works in 4.101+mod environment.
But not yet checked for DBW.

@damawo
Thank you for your work! This is indeed a very unusual ship :o But why are turned catapults?..

Ise's catapults was directed to aft to open the field of fire for #3-4 turret when  battle of cape Engano.
My model expresses this situation.

I can confirm that it works in DBW, although it doesn't really function as a carrier (planes spawn properly but can't launch or land).

My model expresses this situation.
It is understood. But, it may be wise to turn the catapult along the boards, at least for the version that you called 'firing situation'. Then start from catapults will look more natural, do not you think?

Hmm? I think what you want is normal version that catapults directed to forward.
The version I release now is firing situation.

I added spot-able function for observer's eye of F2 key and test for plane Deck.
I didn't intend launching function in this time.

Please wait progress of my works!

Hi BP_dFrog.
I also thought about editing java file.
We will be able to add the turning catapult function.
(It will be same as aft canopy's turning function of D4Y2.)
But it would need mod of catapult mod if I use catapult function.
The decision about java code will be done at the final stage of Ise's mod.

How do you get the plane take off from the deck? The plane spawns on the deck facing forward and I don't think you could take off when you are facing that direction.

A little progress at this time.
The issue about shadow on the flight deck was solved.

This problem was caused by position of shadow receiver's local center.
I think the center need to be near vertexes of receiver's mesh like left image.

ShwRcv*.msh needs to be slightly higher than the Lod0 for the deck otherwise the shadow will be hidden by the deck surface. ShwRcv*.msh must be a single plane. If a curved surface, like end of flight deck on HMS Eagle, then the shadow mesh must be split into separate planes for each part of the curve.
Pivot axes for the shadow mesh must be aligned normal to the surface, not aligned to the world.

Hello all! I've made some research and found out (according to wiki) that speed of the Ise lineship should be quite different from current values. If you agree with me, here are my search results (to replace in ships.ini):

Code: [Select]
Speed          29.632 //47.4

Hi The Radge.
I don't know what value I should apply in this line. max, cruise or other speed?
So I'd better apply appropriate value at ship.ini and adjust true speed in FMB.

note.

When we want to use light map in IL-2, we should care about area of polygon.
Large area polygon could not catch light.
(I don't  know why. I haven't read class for light map yet. or hard coded? )
For example, there was need to split the flight deck.

We have nearly all the IJN battleship classes. Such as Kongo, Ise, Nagato, Yamato(great, even when some of WIP or early config...)only Fuso class missing-the swimming palace ;D
Great Zuiun dive bomber. I always thinking, that where are dive brakes in the E16A? In the wings? Or in the undercarriage structure?

Hi Mopat.
E16A's dive brake is attached in the forward strut of the floats.
The brake is retracted to the both side like the image.

Recently I'm looking for information about the bomb mount rack in the under fuselage.
Is it  swing rod type like as Type99 bomber Val, implanted type like as mount of N1k2-ja's wing or other type?
Maybe I should go library of the National Institute for Defense Studies in japan to search the official text by Aichi Aircraft Company.

Excellent work, Damawo! The E16A looks amazing! :)

Recently I'm looking for information about the bomb mount rack in the under fuselage.
Is it  swing rod type like as Type99 bomber Val, implanted type like as mount of N1k2-ja's wing or other type?

The E16A's use as a dive bomber would suggest that it might have had a swing rod type of arrangement such as used on the Val, in order for the 250kg bomb to clear the prop in a steep dive.

The use of dive brakes in a steep dive would further increase the need for such a swing rod, but that's just my thinking. It would be good to find out for sure.

Maybe I should go library of the National Institute for Defense Studies in japan to search the official text by Aichi Aircraft Company.

I think this might be a good idea.

Although not the clearest, the photos below seem to suggest that the E16A might possibly have had a swing rod type of arrangement.

Damawo one question, the seaplanes took off from the aft deck launched by catapult and then recovered by a crane?

Hi Yeager_1946 Thanks for these images.
I replay japanese news again and again.
http://cgi2.nhk.or.jp/shogenarchives/jpnews/movie.cgi?das_id=D0001300371_00000&seg_number=005 (http://cgi2.nhk.or.jp/shogenarchives/jpnews/movie.cgi?das_id=D0001300371_00000&seg_number=005)
From one scene of the movie, it seems like a beam was attached at the side of oil cooler.
So I think E16A's rod is consisting of 4 beam like as Val Type22.(are (a) shadow of attached point?)
However I can't conclude from this not-clear movie.
I seek more high resolution and clear one.

Hi RealDarko.
The catapult will work by SAS engine mod without special technical addition.
However, Ise-Mod doesn't have crane recovery function now and I don't have no idea to implement it.

Catapult only will be ok, after all we can land near the ship and pretend we will be hoisted back. Great mod, looking forward to it.

Damawo one question, the seaplanes took off from the aft deck launched by catapult and then recovered by a crane?
Hi RealDarko.
The catapult will work by SAS engine mod without special technical addition.

Catapults on Battleship/Cruiser with Seaplanes are troublesome.

Last month I asked ten010 how to make it, he replied me "impossible for Seaplanes".
Non-Seaplane (carrier based planes, etc.) are OK by today's SAS Engine MOD's catapult function, so D4Y2 has no problem about catapult operations on Ise.

When we set a Seaplane on the catapult, 2 serious problems exist.
1 - Seaplanes sit on the deck, they break thier floats like crashing.
2 - Seaplanes don't have undercarriage wheels and given too much friction, hard to be acceralated by catapults.
I think E16A also has these problems.
To solve the problems, ten010 used a "trick" for his Seaplane.
He made it with a Non-Seaplane Java classfile and added hidden wheels Hooks.
But with this technique, AI decides "This airplane has wheels, want to return a ground airbase.".

I think that to solve it smartly, we have to evolve SAS Engine MOD (around Gears) more to enable Catapult workings / not destroyed Seaplanes' floats on decks. But now I don't have a paticular idea to change its codes.

A lot works on Missouri (DBW engine 2.6 :P): A6M2N works, but A6M2N xplod on I400. I guess spawning is different height.
( Has catapult to be solid ?=collision ). Why not top portion of catapults visuals not solid.

Both. After I entered the Ise, I added the text to make show up in the object viewer.
Started the game, checked the object viewer (pink flight deck), went to FMB, and saw pink flight deck again. I'm going to try a few things (like adding // to the ship.ini, so that it doesn't show in the object viewer.

Hi all!
The pink deck is a object for shadow receiver.
For killing the pink deck.
Try adding "hidden" line to [ShdRcv0] section in "ise/3do/ships/ise/hier.him"

When flying, the shadow receiver is hidden forcibly by system.
But its wouldn't work when viewing in FMB.

Hubberranz < Yeah. I will try to solve.
western0221< Really? Then I'm overly optimistic.  I'll have to do some java works.

Rayan -- You need to post the contents of your logfile.
This will probably tell us what is wrong.
See here about how to activate the logfile   http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,13457.0.html

Most common cause of ship not appearing is an error in your ships.ini file.
Maybe you have not added the text entries correctly?
Your logfile may help to identify the problem.

Aft turret can't train to both side around aft superstructure because of il-2 default system.
3rd turret train to starboard and 4th turret to portside in default setting.

Damawo

You can make the 3rd and 4th turret fire on both sides.
Sample ships.ini text from Lexington_42 is below.
Use the NoFireMinYaw and NoFireMaxYaw to prevent gun firing on superstructure.
Thanks! I don't know this function.

Then bellow is what should we write.
Code: [Select]
[IJNIseBB:Part5]
BaseChunk                 Head3
AdditionalCollisionChunk0  Gun3
strengthBasedOnThisSection strength_GunHuge

gunBasedOnThisSection gun_MkVII_356
 FireFastTaget                1
 PreferSlowTarget
 HeadMinYaw                -150
 HeadMaxYaw                 150
 NoFireMinYaw               -60
 NoFireMaxYaw                60
 GunHeadChunk             Head3
 GunBarrelChunk            Gun3
 GunShellStartHook  ShellStart3

[IJNIseBB:Part6]

NoFireMinYaw / NoFireMaxYaw function is provided only by my Ship Extensions MOD.

http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,18742.0.html - 4.11.1m / 4.10.1m
Without this MOD, those 2 lines mean nothing and the guns fire to rear structures.

So, when you are OK that your ship dependents on Ship Extensions MOD, set those parameters.
But not .... need working on each Stock games .... not to set. damawo's first parameters are safe.

If you have not received an answer for 3 years it may be because there has been no change!

E16A 'Paul' (Zuiun) is not finished, not published.

Only in damawo's hand .... Works In Progress.
