Title: RAF Airfield Vehicles- Beta Release
Post by: tomoose on November 24, 2013, 10:18:55 AM
This is my first attempt at a. modding and b. a bulk release of items.
I have to stress that these are STATIC items to be found in your OBJECTS.  I don't know how to make mobile objects yet............sorry! :(
There are no 'damaged' versions yet as I want to get the "Live" versions correct first before going any further.
This is a Beta release as I expect comments/feedback at some point.  If I don't get any then I'll simply make it the "official" release LOL. ;D
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v66/Tomaz99/Airfieldcollection_zpsc3439936.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Tomaz99/media/Airfieldcollection_zpsc3439936.jpg.html)

One thing to note;  The RAF dude is a separate object so that he can be rotated within the ATC Shack and also if you adjust the AddHeightLive in his Static.ini info you can also place him on a Control Tower.
I hope these add some more immersion to your airfields and missions.
Any and all feedback/suggestions are welcome just be gentle LOL. ;)

Enjoy.

The Tilley, 15CWT and the Quad gun tractor are already on my list, LOL.  I have a Bren gun Carrier already done, I just have to add textures.
The LRDG jeep is something I hadn't thought of and looks like a challenge.

@Kopfdorfer
What's SEOW?

@Plowshare
I'll be figuring out how to move objects at some point but I figure if I have the ready-made static objects first that (should be) half the battle.
If anyone knows of a good tutorial for moving ground objects please point me in that directions.

Hey Tomoose,

                   SEOW = Scorched Earth Online War , which is a campaign engine for IL2 Online , using the HSFX mod system as their IL2 base.  I know it's not the mandate of SAS to consider online flying at the same priority as offline , but for these guys it is their essence de vivre. They will appreciate these because of the relative scarcity of Commonwealth vehicles and objects compared to other nationalities to date.
If you are interested check out the SEOW wiki page , or go to SEOW HQ and hang out.

Cheers again for these nice adds.

For the future of these objects: After tomoose makes the damage models for these objects I would recommend adding the damage form for the ambulance and fire truck but also keep the ambulance and fire truck as the invincible objects they are now.

Do this by keeping the MeshDead line in the static.ini text as it is right now:
MeshDead        3do/AustinAmb/live.sim
MeshDead        3do/Firetruck/live.sim

After an attack on your air base, when you return, there will be the ambulance and fire truck looking after things. Also, if these objects do get mobile, keep the static.ini ones for this same purpose. I've done this with humans and it looks pretty cool.

I might also recommend changing the AlignToLand      0 to AlignToLand      1 so these vehicles can conform to the landscape.

Tomoose look great, you did a great job but must be missing some input as I get them or not DBW or 4.12, or is that something I'm not doing well, leave me the names of the objects in the FMB but not pictures  ???
Title: Re: RAF Airfield Vehicles- Beta Release
Post by: tomoose on November 26, 2013, 05:20:51 PM
RAFbube/benson;
Have you added the text I provided to your Static.ini file?  That is the file that tells the game where the mods are and what they are called etc.

You shouldn't be seeing any names in the FMB but rather the Object number (there are no "names" in the OBJECTS part of FMB they are all numbered, for example my Matador truck is "Object 2448").

I created these for DBW but I don't see any major reason why they can't be used in the other mods.  I'm not familiar with how the other mods have their folders etc arranged.
In my DBW the file structure is as follows (your DBW folder may be slightly different);

C:/Program Files (x86)/IL2 DBW/IL2 DBW/IL-2 Sturmovik 1946/#DBW/

Inside the #DBW folder are all of my mod folders such as Carrier Crew v5, and Fixed cowling engine & propeller
My RAF stuff is in a folder called Airfield_Eqpt.
Inside the Airfield_Eqpt folder is a sub-folder called "3do"(you NEED this folder) and inside THAT folder are all the mod folders such as Matador, Firetruck, Austin_Amb etc.

So (using the Matador mod as the example) I end up with a folder path as follows....
C:/Program Files (x86)/IL2 DBW/IL2 DBW/IL-2 Sturmovik 1946/#DBW/Airfield_Eqpt/Matador/
Inside the "Matador" folder is the Body.msh, Live.sim, .tga and .mat files for that object.

I hope that makes sense and helps you out.

In your own versions have a look at where your mods are kept and do the same with mine but adjust the location accordingly.

Wonderful stuff, Tomoose. These are exactly the kind of objects which add so much atmosphere to the game. Keep up the excellent work. Even if we all don't express our deep appreciation for you efforts, we all are grateful for your work. This is an area of the game which has endless potential. Should you desire you could become the "Ranwers" of background enrichment items.

Now you just have to develop a thick skin to deal with everyone who is now going to deluge you with requests for their own favorite little pieces of the sim world.

Ahem... Please, could you consider Aircraft tractors, hydraulic fluid drip pans, rolling fire extinguisher carts, aircrew transport vehicles, mobile worklight generators, .... Well... You get the idea. ;D

Propnut27;
LOL, thanks for the compliments (erm, and the less than subtle request, LOL).  Actually, you are spot on.  I've always felt that the stick figures in the game although originally unimportant (considering when the game came out) are now a target for improvement given the advances in CPU/graphics etc.

I'm (slowly) working on more appropriate groundcrew figures.  They certainly won't be works of art but I hope a wee bit better than the existing stick figures and they'll add to a "busy" airfield.
I'm debating about the head part of the figure as including a nose and eye 'depressions' adds to the polys but I like the effect.
My only problem is getting time to work on them.

Some examples:
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v66/Tomaz99/2013-12-0111_27_42-RAFloadergmax-gmax_zps84f373af.png) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Tomaz99/media/2013-12-0111_27_42-RAFloadergmax-gmax_zps84f373af.png.html)

A WIP

And, believe it or not, something I did months ago but was told there were too many polys.

As much as many of us talentless players might want a particular object, you have to work at your own pace. Do the things that interest you, the things you enjoy creating. The ground crew figures are terrific. And the rolling fire extinguisher? What can I say.
We seem to think along some of the same lines.

Anything you feel like sharing with us will be welcome.

When I was in the Navy I was ground crew. First in an A1 Skyraider squadron, then in an A6 Intruder squadron. I well remember the multitude of gadgets and doo-dads that we had to service the planes. I mentioned the hydraulic fluid drip pans because the neighboring outfit flew F8 Crusaders, and those things leaked hydraulic fluid like garden fountains.

Best wishes for a long and successful career at modding these, often overlooked, but atmospherically satisfying objects.

Just a quick question?

I'm using these, or rather trying to, in HSFX. Do I add the static.ini lines in  HSFX\Files\com\maddox\il2\objects\static.ini , or  HSFX\Mods\STD\com\maddox\il2\objects\static.ini ?

Only so far, nothing happens except the QMB stalls :(

Also, when we're told to add lines to the end of static.ini , does that mean ABOVE the EoF notation, but BELOW the last static.ini entry, or does that mean add BELOW the EOF notation?

Thanks in advance

Solotk

The java for moving vehicles seems fairly straightforward once you actually manage to get one vehicle moving, however, all
the models will need a damage model and the various textures that tomoose would need to put together.

This uses his sim files provided in the download but would probably actually need a hier.him and the other files
you would usually associate with vehicle mods. ;)

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D
