Title: Update Pack 5 for "IL-2 SCW" ready now!

This is UPDATE 5 of "IL-2 SCW", with additional aircraft and other material. And as this is an update pack, it means that you MUST have the base pack PLUS Update 1 AND Update 2 AND Update 3 AND Update 4 installed first, otherwise this update won’t work.

D.) New stationary aircraft for the new Hs-123A1/B1.

Thanks !

But I have a strange bug since I installed update 5 :

-at airstart missions, plane loads fine, but engine is not not on. I have to start it,
-at ground start (scramble mission, for example), plane is jumping in teh air and is broken, or it is lying on its belly with landing gear broken...

Anyone noticed this ?

The airstart thing I have also, but also in other installations.

The jumping into the air / broken landing gear phenomenon is a result of a clash of mods I think. Do you use ANY other mods than the ones supplied in "IL-2 SCW", like QMB Pro?

Disable them one by one, until you find the culprit!
Title: Re: Update Pack 5 for "IL-2 SCW" ready now!

the jumping bug might come from a wheels mod that is incompatible; should not happen on a stock SCW install, but if you throw in other things, that might happen :)

that airstart engine off thingie happens from time to time on my install as well; nothing to worry about as the engine usually can be started quite easily :)

So you found the culprit - excellent!

Yes, if you put other mods into "IL-2 SCW" strange things MIGHT happen...  :o

Cheers!

Post by: SAS~Poltava on November 30, 2013, 11:56:56 AM
Did I miss that one? Oops. That's easy enough. As the other Vildebeests are already there it only takes one more line in the air.ini  ;)
Title: Re: Update Pack 5 for "IL-2 SCW" ready now!
Post by: Laufer on November 30, 2013, 12:06:19 PM
It seems so if I'm not mistaking, these lines should be added to air.ini:

VildebeestL          air.VildebeestL        NOINFO  i01   SUMMER
VildebeestLIII          air.VildebeestLIII        NOINFO  i01   SUMMER
VildebeestLIV          air.VildebeestLIV        NOINFO  i01   SUMMER
VildebeestS          air.VildebeestS        NOINFO  i01   SUMMER

I added it manually, but I can't recall was there Vildbeest plane folder or I had to add it manually as well. :)

Yes, there is a Videbeest folder, but you are correct: there are NO lines at all regarding this aircraft in the air.ini. Silly mistake by me.  :-[

And don't forget please do add Savoia Marchetti S.81 (Alfa Romeo 125), 1936! It's much better and has changeable skins!

From SM81 pack!  ;)

Title: Re: Update Pack 5 for "IL-2 SCW" ready now!

Hello Poltava and hello Bravo!

to answer your question about the Greif - No, the He-177 had its maiden flight in its initial form in November of 1939 but it took 3 more years to get it to the front and make it somewhat combatworthy...

if you really want to get a better understanding why the Luftwaffe was doomed from the beginning of the war on, follow the development of the ME-210, the He-177 and the Bomber B program (JU-288, Do-317, FW-191);
those three program showcase how the Reich micro- and mismanaged the development of new combat aircraft, how certain designers were favored over others, how silly requirements (dive bombing for the He-177) killed basically good designs and how certain types were over developed and reached the front in miniscule numbers while the Allies built hundred thousands of their warplanes that were at least as good as the stuff the LW could offer against them....

if you do an additional update to your splendid packs, maybe include the CA-310 as well, looks quite nice and was used by various airforces before 1939 :)

Can't find any reference that the Caproni 309 was active in the Spanish Civil War.

If anyone has any knowledge of it being there I would be happy to get the reference.

No, that's correct. But the Caproni Ca.310 was used there. Ten a/c were delivered to the Nationalists. See Permuy Lopez: "Air War over Spain" p.25.

Thank You Poltava - I knew about the Ca.310, but didn't know about Lopez's book, so Thanks.

I'll just hi-jack your thread for a moment, please. I'm in Spain at the moment, just south of Barcelona, does anyone know of any places to visit dealing with the SCW air war.

I've googled the subject in different ways, but came up blank.

Cheers - Redfox

Hello guys, yesterday I installed update pack 5, very cool!! The autogyro is really funny!!

I have a question: in the STD folder there is a folder called "mission", with a file called "background". I did not understand where I must to put it. Can you help me, please?

Many thanks! Ciao!

Just as downloaded: it is supposed to be in the STD folder. Gives you a more appropriate background. But it's not necessary as such.

You are right, Markino. But the creator of the SCW pack extended it to the Sino-Japanese War, which took place in the same era.

Many thanks! Ciao!

Markino, hmm, I thought I put it into Update 6 of "Il-2 SCW". Anyway it's a small tga file, called icon.tga, and you put it in the Chinese campaign folder: "IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\Missions\Campaign\CN". Ok?

Will see to it that it will come in the next update of "IL-2 SCW" - yes, there will be one, eventually :-)

Well, I managed to show chinese roundel in the career list; the lack is not for the icon.tga file but for the other one ,an access file, I think.

There are another courious behaviour, generally in DBW, I noticed it playing the sino-japanese campaigns, the Wuhan battle; maybe you have a reply for this: why other planes (my mates) fly almost ever at full power with apparentely  no fuel consumption, meanwhile I must to fly at full power for the entire mission and I can hardly keep up with them, returning for landing with the tanks empty?
Again: my mates firing an infinite number of shot, they hitting down enemies with the first flurry of bullets;
I must to fly very close to enemy, shoot it accurately and, often, I finish my bullets before him shot down....
There are settings to correct this troubles or is the "normal" way for DBW?

Many thanks for your explanations!

Ciao!

Marco

Yes, that's correct: you need the shortcut file called "icon" as well.

The other things are problems with the AI not just of DBW but IL-2. If they out-run you: use the autopilot!
