I'm trying to make a map, and it's my very first approach on this subject so I have "noob" question: is there a way to model a lake (I mean its surface as water) and mantain it about 200m above sea level, as its real world counterpart?
I've tried to depict RGB 255 (earth) all the land (including lake) on map_c and apply the RGB 29 on map_T (texture for water1): the map loads, the lake appears but water behaves like land.
I've tried to depict the lake area with RGB 0 on map_c (water) and set altitude of 200m on map_h, but map doesn't load.

Yes,it would be map_h that sets the elevation on land,of the water
check out the Slovenia map by Zuti,it has a lot of water above 0 elevation
but...
water will not behave like water when above 0 elevation in IL-2
Ships will not use the water above 0 elevation,and bridges do not work above 0 elevation
so it does end up acting like land
it has been discussed several times over the years ,with modding maps in IL-2
It is an IL-2 game engine limitation

your welcome,it is an ok work around setting at 0 down from 200 m
you can massage the land around the lake with the height tool in unlocked,
to gently allow the land to descend down to the waters edge from 200 m to 0
most would not notice in IL-2 ,unless they may actually live around there and actually know about the lake :D

hi ljmagnum - noob question or not, it is already answered in the second post of this thread. did you actually read the thread first, or did you just go ahead and post your question without reading?
as for a dam, there are no dam objects, so i guess it's not possible at this point.

I am working with the Karelia map and there are A LOT OF lakes, ponds and waterways all over the 560 x 420 km terrain. I am going to leave all the lakes to their original height. The problem is how can I flatten those lake's surfaces with the easiest way. I have tried CoastAlign Tool, but it repairs only the coastlines, not the whole surfaces of lakes or seas.
Gulf Of Finland is easy to do, it is 0-level, but what is the best method with all the other water surfaces? Is the Height-tool and "Fill" good?

Using Gimp, select the lake and its surroundings by a lasso on map_H.tga, fill the area so selected by grey colour corresponding to the height of the terrain around lake. Save new map_H.tga.

Thanks Uzin, good idea. I make the biggest lakes with that method and use also map_c to find the coastlines for them quickly. The problem is, that there are about 50 000 ponds and small lakes everywhere... ;)

The lakes might be selected groupwise, so making the process more efficient. The problem is, not to include rivers into the selections. But perhaps it might be solved by choice of "substract from selection" function ...
Another way might be, treat all the lakes and rivers first, then select rivers separately (by hand using the lasso tool ) and get them to zero height again. This way assumes that there are less rivers than lakes there.
