Title: Update Pack 3 for "IL-2 SCW" available now!

Now Update Pack 3 for "IL-2 SCW" has been posted, and with this pretty much all modded Spanish Civil War aircraft are now available in one simple pack.

1. INTRODUCTION: “IL-2 SCW” is a simple compilation of material from different talented modders, and designed for DBW. The pack contains everything you need to start simulating air combat during the Spanish Civil War 1936-39. The aim of “IL-2 SCW” is to provide a comprehensive collection of pre-WW2 mods that can be easily installed, without multiple downloads, editing of different ini-files etc. And as it is activated through JGSME.exe it can’t “break” your installation, but can be switched “on” and ”off” as the player pleases.

This is UPDATE 3 of the updated base pack, with additional aircraft and other material. This means that you MUST have the base pack PLUS Update 1 AND Update 2 installed first, otherwise this update won’t of course work.

D. 5 new ships: Three different types of small armed Trawlers, and two Italian SCW-era Destroyers. All have been made by Giotto. (Stanislao has repainted them.) E. 10 new ground columns: One with civilian vehicles, one with horse-drawn supply, and eight with infantry, trucks, horse-drawn artillery and tanks, one for each side and appropriate the era. This simple addition is my own work.

F. 49 new skins, by Mission Bug, Archie, Agracier, Murdoc, Imme, A1_Phoenix and Juanmalapuente.

3. REQUIREMENTS: As this an update pack it will ONLY work if you already have the base pack of “IL-2 SCW” installed PLUS Update 1 AND Update 2 (which all in its turn goes on top of a clean DBW 1.71 install. You can download the base pack here! (http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads3&file=details&id=1581)) That is VERY IMPORTANT. Follow this procedure and it is almost 100% guaranteed to work. (And as mentioned: it can’t mess up your game, as it is activated via jgsme.)

4. INSTALLATION: First: Make sure to deactive "IL-2 SCW" through jsgme. After this the installation has three easy steps:
1.   Uncompress the whole downloaded file. (Note: the format is 7zip. If you don’t have that program, it can be downloaded for free here: http://www.7-zip.org/download.html)
2.   The two folders (“jgsmemods”, “Paintschemes”) are simply dropped in the root folder of your DBW install (for instance "C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946"). Overwrite if prompted to.
3.   In your IL-2 root folder click on the icon named “JGSME.exe”. You will find one entry named “IL-2 SCW Mod Pack for DBW”. Select it, then click on the top arrow button (“Enable selected mod”). The Mod Pack will then be enabled. After this process is finished, close JGSME, and start IL-2 the regular way. (To the disable the Mod Pack, simply reverse the process in JGSME.)

All the kudos should go to the GREAT modders who put in all that time and talent to make the material in this pack: DreamK, Giotto, Epervier and the others. I just bundled it together.

oh I meant, I am going to fly one of your wonderful campaigns...
I would love to create campaigns myself, as my book collection is quite large and should form the basis for many a great storyline, unfortunately, that FMB is, like we say in Austria, a spanish village for me, meaning I do not have the faintest idea how to use it :)

but maybe, if I find the time I will do a after action report and post it here just to promote all the great stuff you have packed into SCW... :)

Hello guys, as posted in a wrong place (http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,36832.0.html) my IL-2 SCW crashing at 70% after installation of Update Pack #3. Untill update pack #2 all works fine.

I tried to reinstall all from the beginning but the result is even as written above...  :(

Walter_Solito said to my to post the log about error, but I do not know how to do it and I don't know how to install "instant log".

Also the suggested by Griffon doesn't works... :( :(

Could you help me, please? Many thanks!!

Drop the mod into #DBW folder , it should be as a single folder named 000_Instant_log within the classfiles , then enable the log configuration in the conf.ini (remember to set it as read only in property)....

Hello Marco!

just a question: do you start installing from a clean DBW install or do you drop it on top of lets say TFM or an already otherwise modded #DBW folder?
a 70% crash usually indicates you are missing some entries in one of the various ini files or you have the entries but are missing the corresponding objects, ships, other stuff.....
if you start with a clean DBW 1.71, SCW should work as intended, at least it does on my install;

so make sure you start with a clean DBW 1.71 install....
and if that still does not work, back to the log file as Walter has suggested...

Hi Griffon, in my IL-2 main root there are #DBW (+TFM) folder, #DBW1916, #UP, #SAS, etc. I put the SCW folder in jsgme folder and tried to activate it.

So I think is not a clean #DBW...

But the strange is that untill SCW update pack#2 all works fine and then no more...?!

How can I put a clean #DBW in my IL-2 main root without messing up all?

simple answer, you can, but you then loose all other mod packs if you are not using the il2selector;
for TFM, there is a zip file containing a clean #DBW folder, so maybe try this for starters.
into this folder, you can add SCW using JSGME or you unzip directly into this folder;
it should work then!

that pack 2 works and 3 does not is not that strange, considering that #3 contains various ships which go into several ini files;
if you have stuff inside the #DBW folder that also goes into some of those ini files and you overwrite the existing ini files with the ones from SCW that do not contain the entries that are needed for the existing stuff, then the whole install will crash...
it´s a little bit complicated to explain, but that´s how things go...

out of this reason, it´s best to use the il2selector because it allows for several different mod packs to go into one existing install, as long as all those modpacks use the same patch level, for example 4.101m in my case;
for different patch levels, you will have to use Bravo´s Holy Grail .......

After this I delete the LOGFILE, re-enabled the SCW by jsgme and run it again; obiouvsly it crashed at 70% again but the follow is the logfile generated after crash.

well, as far as I can tell, the "culprit" is this one here:

as it seems, your objects.ini or your ships.ini is not set up properly!
make sure to use a PLAIN DBW folder for copying the SCW stuff into it! this is utterly important!
otherwise you get ini files that do not contain all the info they need for the various mods you might have added!

as said already, you can grab a plain DBW folder from TFM, Simon has provided a link for a zip version in his TFM thread;
on top of this, copy the SCW files, but ONLY the SCW files, no other modpack!!!!

try that and report back :)

Yes, if don't use "IL-2 SCW" on an empty, plain, vanilla DBW folder you will probably get into trouble...

I don't think that works as you would like to, markino.

The selector does not (AFAIK) have the ability to recognize the folder that way. What I do is, name it "#DBW _scw" and when i want to run it, I rename the regular #DBW to #DBW46 and the #DBW_scw to #DBW, so the selector will just run that folder as your regular DBW game. no problem.

I have a variety of DBW variants that I can run selectively that way.

dunno if there's a more elegant way though.

Marco, basically you are right, you only need to set up the Selector ini file correctly;
how this should be done can be read in the thread above...

my SCW folder is named #SCW and can be selected via the Selector, just as #DBW_1916 or #TFM...
it just depends on getting the il2fb.ini file set up correctly and sometimes you need to mess with the RAM settings for the game;

Hello guys, well, I downloaded the plain vanilla DBW 1.71 and I tried to follow your instructions.
I put inside plain vanilla #DBW folder the content of the 4 "SCW mod-pack/jsgme/IL-2 SCW mod pack for DBW/#DBW" folders.
Files of Mission folders in the relative mission folder of IL-2 1946 main root.
Files of paintschemes as above; files of samples folder as above and so on. Then I re-enabled by jsgme but the result is always the same: loading crashes at 70% and logfile also report the same as previous.

Ok, white flag for me, is not mandatory I have SCW in my IL-2, and on the other hand I can not put stress on you all the time.

A big thank for all your help!!  :) :)

I hope will be near future a single mod-pack for SCW. Many congratulations again for the wonderful job for this air war period.

you create a #SCW folder for example, unzip the SCW files directly into that folder, let the packs overwrite each other in sequence if requested and then select SCW from the Selector (which you need to set up using the il2fb.ini)
that should then start the SCW "partition" of your install!
it is as easy as that :)
setting up the selector takes maybe 5 minutes and unzipping and copying another 5 to 10 mins;
so in 15 mins you should be up and running :)

Hello mates the last news about SCW are as follow:
Yesterday I downloaded the update pack 3 again and ship La Masa, then I tried to reinstall all, starting from a plain vanilla dbw folder, La Masa was obiuvsly installed already...
Then I tried to re-enable all by jsgme but as usual ctd crashed at 70%...

ok, first of all I start with a screenie of how my main game folder looks with respect to the different addon modpacks:

you will need to adjust yours with regard to the modpacks you use if you want to have it look clean and not contain unnecessary stuff;

one final word of caution; the RAM size might be too big for your rig; I am running a quite good spec rig with a very good GPU so if you do not get the game to run with RAM Size=1024 try 512 or even something lower instead...game will still look great and run good :)

maybe try replacing setting 5 (the 1916 one) with #SCW for the SCW setup;
that should also work; but I you can, replace the old Selector 2.3 with the newer one; that one is way faster and more customizable...

I have also DBW_1916 so, I thought, to copy the setting line 5, paste and modifing it as setting line 6 for SCW. But in this case the "ModType=4" turn in "ModType=5"?

If that does not work just copy the content of scw into the 1916 folder an leave the ini as it is...

Oh and switch to selector 3.1 as soon as possible-it is way more flexible and way better...

no need to disable anything, it is just copying the new files from selector 3.1 over into your root folder and replace the old ones...
just play around with ram settings a little, had to tweak mine to get TFM running, but nothing complicated...512MB should do, or even lower...

Hi Phil, oh my God it really works!!! Almost unbelievable!!
I installed selector 3.1, then modified the IL2fb.ini and restart all and #DBW_SCW it is appear on selector.
I started it and for now it seems to work well. Also Careers  seems to works fine till now…

I wish to ask you few curiosities:
1.When I play with SCW I can see on careers screenshot the carreers of DBW and I can play with they without problems.

2.The opposite also occurs when I play with DBW and I play carreers of SCW.

3. In SCW QMB the complete map set  that there is in DBW is not present. Just few maps are present in this QMB. How can I replace the entire set of my DBW?

Is this a normal way to?

congratulations :)

to answer your questions: SCW builds on DBW which means all the content of DBW is playable when selecting SCW plus the additional SCW stuff;
view SCW as an addition to DBW; as long as campaigns use planes, maps, objects etc that are in the original DBW, those campaigns will remain playable;

vice versa of course it is not completely the same but some campaigns may run if they use content that is integrated in DBW already;
if you select certain spanish civil war campaigns while running DBW, those might work to some extent, but not all;

and as all game versions you have running via the Selector use the same Missions folder, all the campaigns you have installed show up in all the various game versions;
you can run TFM and have DBW_1916 campaigns showing up, although those wont run; the same is true for most of the dedicated SCW campaigns;

so if you want to fly SCW, use just this one, it will spare you loads of troubles :)

@Metatron: yes this is possible - Marco just did it :) the keyword is "Selector 3.1" :)

It is true, eg., in this time I am playing with Bf109 Africa's career and the map used, "Sands of Time", has small differences depending wich game I play...
I'd only done the tests out of curiosity... I also think is better to play relative careers with dedicated game... ;)

@Metatron: 3.1 selector is the way to do how you wish. No trouble when you install it. Just little modifications in IL2fb.ini are required, but if I could do it myself..... ;)

concerning the maps: how a map looks like is defined in the load.ini for that map; you can modify the map if you tell the load.ini for that map to load other textures for example;
of course you can have different load.ini files for the same map, they are just called slightly different then; for example load_w.ini or load_s.ini for winter and summer maps (this is veeery simplified though, almost all mapmakers produced dedicated winter and summer versions of their maps, often also autumn and spring versions with different load.ini files of course);
depending on which load.ini is called from inside the missionfile of the mission you are flying, you get differently looking maps albeit basically, it is still the same map; for example there was an old Malta campaign I played ages ago which was released for the then current Malta map but you could also modify that Malta map with more bomb craters, loading new textures via a modified load.ini; of course you had to manually modify the missionfiles then too, telling the mission to load the new crater splattered map :)

but you are right when you say it is best to use the dedicated game version for a certain campaign, avoiding loads of trouble with missing planes, objects or other stuff...

@Metatron: just browse through this thread, you will find the solution for your question there ;)
that´s why basically the same map might look slightly different in some campaigns

I have read through this thread, as I understand it the DBW content remains alongside the SCW content with the selector?
What I would like to attempt is to have a selectable install of IL2 with ONLY the SCW content, to allow for faster running, and a separate one with the ww2 content.
I imagine this would be a big task though.

well what you think about is not possible because of the structure and character of the game!
IL2 is basically a WW2 flight sim;
DBW, all other modpacks, SCW or whatever builds upon this core and therefor can be viewed as add on packs;

as you need DBW for running SCW, you could basically view SCW as addon pack to the addon that DBW is itself;
therefor, you will not be able to run only SCW without WW2 content;
you can run SCW with all the DBW content but you do not need other addon content like TFM, newTFM for example;

the selector in this scenario lets you choose which addon pack to DBW you want to run, SCW, 1916, TFM, newTFM or other self generated content; it just depends which packs you have added to your install
but whatever you choose via the selector, it will ADD stuff to an existing DBW install, that contains all the WW2 stuff that was packed into DBW originally;

but trust me, if you run pure SCW on a DBW install, it runs and loads very fast, because nearly all of the DBW stuff is packed neatly into sfs files already, making loading times for the SCW modpack very fast! mine loads under 45 seconds...and its worth the effort!

I don't know,
 I think my computer is struggling to run all the DBW content plus non compressed mods.
I get low fps without anything much going on, so I assume it's the weight of the content that need to be loaded.

 I might be converting to HSFX which is a lighter install if I can't solve the problem.
