Mikoyan has given us a good start for the Pete but,it's like he said there's definitely room for improvement.Lets just hope one of the fantastic modders here will pick it up and give it a thorough upgrade.

The plane was built on SAS modact 3.06 for 4.101; i've never used DBW so it didn't form part of the design criteria i'm afraid.
TBH Gumpy, I don't think it needs a thorough upgrade, just a few tweaks here and there. The aircraft can be landed, i've done so several times without a joystick.

Thank you mikoyan. I love it. :) Everyone remember that ALL new planes or mods have bugs that need to be worked out and the modders who make them take many hours out of their lives to give these mods for free and we are all lucky to have our modders who share their hard work.

Thank you again mikoyan.:)

v1.01 up - the original upload was a missing a few files, so the clips weren't working properly. I've also adjusted the CoG.
No comment in DBW, but works in 4.101, SAS 3.06.

Now all we need is a shooting rear gunner and some bombs.   ;D

Thanks.

Better to have a new AC with a few bugs than have to wait and wait until everything is perfect.

The "Pete" isn't very easy to shoot down with a Wildcat. You have to wait until the AI does something stupid. Once we have a rear gunner, it'll be even harder.

AC still seems to be a little nose heavy and rides a little high out of the water, on the center float.

The "Pete" needs to land at pretty slow speeds in order to not rip off the center float.

Keep up the good work.

Right, i'm getting sick of this - i've spent countless hours building this aircraft and all i'm getting so far is complaints and sarcastic remarks. Can I remind some of you that this isn't my job, it's a hobby, and that i'm not being paid for it

I made it very clear in the OP that some further work is required. I don't mind people politely pointing out issues, and providing some support - but a few remarks have been quite patronising and I won't stand for it.

I removed them because the author took offense by them.
I have pm the involved and this is all about Language barrier. My own english writing is very often taken the wrong way. If you are not Native English, your writing tend to be more direct, and people easily take offense by it

I agree fully with what Archie1971 and Matt have said.

If you really want people to stop creating anything new for this game ( a task which takes an investment of time and effort that seems to be greatly under-estimated by some of the "non-contributors" out there ) then carry on posting ill-considered remarks .........  :-[

I see that my reply had been delete :P It's exactly what sayed SAS~Leone. I don't wrote a critic about this mods (I don't tested yet, I wait for updates ^^) But it was a thanks you, because it's a great addition and as sayed by SAS~farang65, IJA is growing and I answered that for me, we just need some more plane (and ships) to have a "Complete" Pacific war ^^

F1M is an important step forward to complete the Pacific.

I know my English is poor so I hope you don't take something bad because it was not what I wanted :)

Great add and great thanks again :)
Hope to see those forgotten plane (like F1M was until today) coming on SAS ^^

Sorry again for bad English

I just tried this one, thank you, I was impressed by both the plane and your work. Thank you very much.

The cockpit seems perfectly placed up, the 3D seems perfect and the FM interesting. I managed 425 km/h at 1000 m (!!!!) in fact better from what I read everywhere for a 370km/h (230 mph) max speed. Roll rate is excellent, turning radius comparable with many biplane fighters but dive speed in only 440 km/h. In fact it is so efficient that in a quick mission that I tried 4 vs 4 (vs Ms406s) I managed to shoot down one Ms406.

While this in a first glance it seems strange, I noticed that your version (which is not indicated) is in fact the F1M2-K, the trainer version. The 'normal' version F1M2 should have a partly faired rear cockpit (like the one in the drawings of Kopfdorfer), a rear mounted type 92 machine gun and provision for 2 60 kg bombs. All these indicate that the trainer version was lighter, so this performance makes more sense.

Indeed thank you for this interesting part of aviation history that you recreated for us.

That seems... interesting. The FM is programmed for a 370 km/h top speed! I don't have a joystick on my laptop, so I couldn't do any useful flight testing before I published.
There's no rear machine gun or bombs yet, but they are on the to-do list, along with a minor 3D fix to the canopies. I haven't fitted a rear turret completely from scratch before, so it may be a while on that one, but the bombs (fingers crossed) should be straightforward.

... I don't have a joystick on my laptop, so I couldn't do any useful flight testing before I published.

You don't need a joystick to test speed. Just build a simple mission by FMB where your plane flies straight and level at highest settable speed (say 800 km/h) at rated altitude. Then play the mission inside FMB itself by clicking on "Play" and, as soon as simulation starts, hit the Auto Pilot. Switching by CTRL+F1 to full-screen view, you'll benefit of TAS indicator on left side of your screen to check actual top speed. Historical top speed is indeed TAS and not IAS as usually we read on Speed Bar
Title: Re: IJN Mitsubishi F1M Type Zero Observation Seaplane v1.01
Post by: FANATIC MODDER on July 26, 2013, 04:48:01 AM
Yes, I did again a test. This plane is difficult to flight straight, due to trimming. In my previous attempt, I did what I use to do with planes that trimm up, that is to let it slide in a shallow climb, then down, and finally fly straight. I had 110% engine power settings.

I tried the same again, with 100% power settings, the top speed was now 410 km/h. Finally, in my third attempt, I tried simply to go at 100% and fly as much as straight as possible. And the top speed was ...370 km/h!! With 110% power the speed was up to 385 km/h.

So most likely, you got it right. This plane is difficult to fly straight, oversensitive like a fighter, so in my previous attempt, after my shallow dive (when I was at almost crash speed, 440 km/h) I was trying not to climb, and after approx one min of 'straight' flight I was actually 20m lower. Obviously it made more of a difference than I thought initially.

I just got the time to test version 1.01 and got the plane working successfully apart the known AI take off bug!

Noticed that instruments have the needles of the gauges with night luminescence.

I'm also , and above all , wondering why it haven't flaps?

What I noticed when the plane is driven by AI is that it reach a very high take off speed (About 165 kmph) with elevators full up but the plane centerline is pointing toward water , then after the main float is broken the plane (if don't damage propeller on the water) assume the correct rotation angle and take off....

My tought about is that main float generate too much water resistance and the lack of flaps make take off speed too high!

I think that some change in it's FM can solve this issue!

Thanks for this great scout!

Lack of flaps was merely an error on my part - I didn't realise the original aircraft had them; a fair few biplanes can be found without them, after all.

I have to admit, at this point in time, i'm not intending to provide any further support for this aircraft. I lost heart after the (initial) reception it got.

Yeah. Come on Matt. :)  Dont take things to heart too much. I really love this plane. I would love to see you improve on it. :)

Do you know that there are many times I have released a new shallows texture, thats what I started out making in my begining, and I think most of my work has been prety good but I would only get maybe one or two comments muchless a thank you sometimes. It still happens with the maps I work on. I get some guys thanking me and commenting but not on all my work. I try not to take offence, it can be hard but really I know that there are a lot of guys who download it. I just think its cool that something I made is on someone's computer in another country. Too me thats part of the fun.

I step in gingerly here as I don't want to cause any offence to a modder, and I have enjoyed flying this a/c without a problem.

But, and there's always a but, in the 3do folder you've named the cockpit Ki-43, and thats what it does, it completely replaces the original Ki-43 cockpit. Different gun-sight and instrument panel, but worst of all from the cockpit view there's no canopy.

I notice you have mentioned you are not intending to do any further work on this a/c.  Not a problem, as I can't fly both at the same time.

BTW, I'm using DBW.

Cheers - Redfox

P.S. Why did you name the cockpit folder Ki-43?

Redfox, you can take a look at this: http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,36851.0.html
In this 4.09 conversion, Epervier solved this problem giving a separate folder for F1M cockpit. Maybe with latest DiffFM this version will work in your installation.

But... Ai take off in any direction ...
Time the engine starts, the plane turns to the left ... take off the AI do not compensate and therefore they will hit the beaches or anything else.

In 4.12, AC likes to ignore water landing designated spot and decides to land on a ground airfield. (somehow, the AC lands just fine, and will taxi to a position off the field.)
If you build a mission where there are no ground airfields nearby, the AC will land a mile or so in front of the seaplane base, and just will taxi in circles and not shut down.
Because the AC curves to the left on takeoff, you must use a seaplane base on the left side of any island.

Aircraft seems confused on whether it is a seaplane or ground aircraft.

Besides these minor bugs, this is a great AC.

The reason for that is because in previous versions of the sim the description in the classfile for seaplanes was 'TypeSailplane' and this has now been replaced with 'TypeSeaPlane' for 4.12.

To have this aircraft land on water 'TypeSeaPlane' will have to replace the former entry in the classfile for it to land on water, therefore, it will need a second version with a altered classfile with the new entry for 4.12.2 users.

Thank you very much CW for the update, it is greatly appreciated. 8)

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D

Link to fix with TypeSeaPlane implemented for 412 users:

Thanks Pete for the 412 information .

Concerning the scattering take of issue you are having Gabriel. I am a 409 user too and I can not duplicate the trouble you are having in my game yet.

Gumpy reported something similar in his testing in DBW when I had TypeStormovic implemented so I removed it.

Thanks again,

ahoy ahoy. got this wonderful little aircraft with the TFM pack, but it seems they used an outdated version, which gave problems with replacing the original stock ki-43-I cockpits... i was able to fix that, by just giving instructions on how to update to the latest F1M-Pete version so thats not a problem, but while doing that i noticed:

the animated controls inside the cockpit rotate around the wrong axes?. like the rudder pedals should rotate left/right around their center when pushed, but they animate up/down, and the throttle is rotated 90 degrees clockwise into the cockpit moving wrong. flightstick rotates wrong too.

just wanted to at least report my findings here,

cheers.

deci!

But at least it has a rear gunner.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaargh - SPECIFICS.  When the word 'problem' is bandied about please be SPECIFIC! ie; Are you flying this in FMB, with a fully constructed mission or even a campaign? - Or are you just pissing about in QMB which lacks much of the subtlety and tuning of FMB? - Can you post the mission? - If not you aren't really in control of events or offering a fair test.

In FMB for example; if you encounter an AI return problem (SPECIFIC to: Map/Runway Type & Location/Timing/No. of AI/Targets/Mission Type/Loadout/AI Threats/Waypoint Instructions) where all other conventional landing instructions fail, use a DZ point to rem the AI at a suitable spot.  This would usually be a single AI in any case as you would not historically expect to see great formations of the damn things.  If you are talking Human pilot landing then you should be landing it yourself...

;D thanks for the first 'mild' rant of 2015 - and HAPPY NEW YEAR! ;D
