.. where are going the 2 lines "self stationnary planes"?

... je suppose qu'elles vont dans ton stationary.ini (c'est là que j'ai une section ssp), si tu n'as pas encore de section "self stationnary planes" dans ton stationary.ini, tu la crées ...  ;)

The template is not supposed to be put anywhere or used for the game. It is simply a file from which you can easily make skins for the aircraft ... it is a graphic file that you can keep wherever you wish IF you want to make new skins for this aircraft.

If you don't want to make your own skins, then just ignore the template.

blackbird, if you are interested in another version, please ask about it in said other thread, and don't be so rude as to first ask about another project here in Ranwers thread.
i say rude, because that is how it comes across, even though you may not have intended it.

Another work of art from the maestro. A definite French flavor to his work lately. Dare we hope for the favor of Ranwers' long ago glimpsed Breguet 693? Or the Bloch 174/175?  Master, I really don't care which aircraft you do next. I simply want you to continue your brilliant, selfless work on behalf of all of us who lack the skill, talent, and expertise, but who, nonetheless, love this sim, and treasure each gift you choose to grace us with.

I think I speak for all when I say a most sincere Thank You.

Congratulations.
Tank you to fill the "black hole" of the Battle of France left aside by almost all the WWII AC simulators.
At the end passion, takes advantage upon strictly commercial behaviour.
This beautiful plane deserved it.

As a special tribute to Ranwers, and for all those that want to try his latest masterpiece over the skies of France in 1940, I've posted this campaign:

(http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t286/Poltava/dewoi_aces_sas-logo_zps0a2b3f22.jpg) (http://s163.photobucket.com/user/Poltava/media/dewoi_aces_sas-logo_zps0a2b3f22.jpg.html)

This is a semi-historical, static 17-mission campaign, set during the Battle for France 1940. You are a French fighter pilot in the  Groupe de Chasse I/3, flying the Dewoitine D.520. The campaign commences with the Blitzkrieg phase, starting on May 10, with the actions against Belgium, swiftly followed by the breakthrough at Sedan, the dash for the Channel, and finally the air actions of the final weeks before the armistice on June 25. (At this date French aerial resistance had virtually ceased, with a number surviving aircraft withdrawing to French North Africa.) Many missions in this campaign are based on actual events.

You can download it here: http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads3&file=details&id=1687

This campaign is just a variant of my old campaign “Glory and Defeat”, but with a number of changes, the most important being that the player uses Ranwers new Dewoitine D.520 (instead of the Morane-Saulnier 406), plus that I've also added his Bloch MB.152 and the LeO.451, that you will see in action, and fight together with. (And as soon as Ranwers Do-17Z becomes available again, I will include that one too!) But eventually I hope to put together a new, dedicated campaign for this beauty!

With the download comes 8 skins, plus a new background tga and new French menu music.

Thanks for looking - and again, a BIG thank you to Ranwers!  :)

I'm opposite can't wait to bag some with my 109 - ;) still the D520 is a beauty! I bag a Stuka, Dornier or two with her though, perhaps even a B-24.  8)  Perhaps there is some hope for a Breguet 693 another french beauty on the horizon. ;)
Agree steph12 Ranwers ((Ranwers team?) I think SAS once said Ranwers was more than one individual) is simply the best. Well done ranwers, thank you for the lovely Dewoitine :)

Well Herr Baron, to be trully faithful I have already tried to fly against 109-E3s and it is already quite a fight with good AIs! Maybe one day we meet on the net arena  ;)! And I agree 300% for the Bréguet!

I think we cannot thank Ranwers and his team enough for all the great work!:D

However, I'm curious too what the differences are, especially since I don't know what to look for in the first place. I suspect this is about tweaks and balancing, things that are not always overtly obvious ...

Epervier put "my FM" instead of the original one in version 4.09
I designed it with Claymore, rollnloop and Dreamk (special thinks to him for helping me on this).
It is quite accurate according to the flight manual and the data I have, and they seem to have prefered it.
There are still things to check and fix, anyway.
Ranwers, if you want, do not hesitate to use it.

Hi!

The fm has changes to the handling characteristics since its take off lift performance was quite bad and also it has more fuel capacity as it really had because it used wing fuel tanks too and has better roll rate and more stable turn performance and its speed was tuned a bit too.

Woaw, thank you very much for this piece of art! Now, I can finally bust some 109s  8)! Your cockpit looks nice too, but it would be nicer with some corrections on instruments: some of them have numbers painted orange, like the altimeter, for instance :

This color is correct for instruments which are 60 years old, but it's not historical in 1940. At the time, it was painted white, like your variometer :

Yeah, but this orange color is caused by the aging of the radium paint used for the instruments. That's why today, many WW2 warbirds have orange instruments, but at the time, this paint was white.

Wrong - the yellow green phosphorescent paint used originally turns "dirty orange" with time - but the numbers and inscriptions on French Astra Instruments had various patterns - some were totally white, but soem instrumenst, mainly from the post 1938 period, had yellow phosphorescent numbers - and here is the point -whether this "yellow phosphorescent" was greenish (my own humble opinion, based upon phosphorescent paints used in French till the 60s) or light orange as seen in present day museum samples - but definitively NOT white.

Hello ranwers, i finally had the opportunity to test this great bird, vers 1.1 looks great, thank you so much  :)

I have found a minor glitch, the ball doesn't show side slip like it should, but instead it shows a "reverse turnrate": if i turn right, the ball will be on the left, proportionnal to my turn rate. If i kick the rudder and keep full ruder, ball will initially move razpidly (as if showing sideslip, but in fact it shows an instant turn rate), but it then will recenter, since i don't turn. Not a biggie but ball is quite needed to get the full performance out of the plane.

Also, aircraft is prone to a violent snap at high AoA, and even if i push the stick violently engine doesn't cough; i thought it would behave more like a hurricane.

What do books say for those who have some?

Edit: odd ball behavior is same in MB152 that i just tried too (and looks great also !)

Wonderful plane but I have a skins issue:

After attempting to install the HD default and alternate skins:

1. I get a bright pink default skin;
2. The alternate skins do not appear in the skins drop down menu (and I have created a D510 skins folder).

What am I doing wrong?  Thanks so much.
Title: Re: Dewoitine D.520 v1.1
Post by: cgagan on May 15, 2013, 11:23:58 PM
If you have installed the HD default skin, then all your skins should be 2048x2048 and your colour depth should increase to 24(bits or pixels I am not sure); you can do it in your D520 skins folder, using a program such as Irfanview
Title: Re: Dewoitine D.520 v1.1
Post by: btasm on May 16, 2013, 05:06:43 AM
Bit lost here. I have Irfanview. The HD default skin is installed. The images say they are 2048 x 2048. The plane is still pink. When you say "you can do it" in the D520 skins folder, what is "it"? Am I do edit something? If so, how?

Thanks for your help.
Title: Re: Dewoitine D.520 v1.1
Post by: cgagan on May 16, 2013, 05:41:26 AM
Go to your skins folder (specifically the D520 folder) and change the skins to 2048x2048, then  increase colour depth (I am not sure about terms as I am writing from my office computer) to 24bits (using the options in irfanview). Then save as "original folder", and you must be done
Title: Re: Dewoitine D.520 v1.1
Post by: btasm on May 16, 2013, 05:28:07 PM
I'm sorry, but I must be a bit dense because I'm still confused. So here goes.

Irfanview has been my default imaging program for some time. After creating a D520 skins folder, installing the HD default skin (skin1o.tgb) into the aircraft folder (and overwriting the existing one), then loading the alternate skins, I ended up with a D520 skins folder that includes the alternate skins as .bmp files, for example, "bulgar2_2048.bmp", "Vichy.bmp" etc. Hence the skins are already 2048x2048. (There's no "default" .bmp in the skins folder, of course.)

After opening up Irfanview, and browsing to a skin (.bmp), an option under "Image" is "decrease color depth". This shows the default .bmps as "256 Colors (8 BPP)" but the only choice is to lower the colors and BPP. Is this what I want to change? I don't think so.

I did find that I could install and use the non-HD D520 skins available here at the Skin Shop provided I went back to the "original" default skin file. But otherwise, I get a pink default skin and the alternate skins don't appear as options when customizing the D520.

I hope I am explaining this correctly. Thanks.
Title: Re: Dewoitine D.520 v1.1
Post by: cgagan on May 16, 2013, 11:48:12 PM
Let's sum up: If you get a pink default skin having installed the HD default skin into D520/3do/plane/D520(Multi1)/summer, then you must have issues with the HD mod (http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,33239.0.html).
What I did was to open my IL2.../Paintschemes/skins/D520 folder with Irfanview, from the "Image" menu I clicked on "Resize/Resample, then changed the "width" and "height" into 2048x2048, saved (original folder); then. in the same skin, I clicked on "Increase Color Depth" from Image menu again and chose 16.7 Million Colors (24BPP), saved again ("original folder") and that was it. Your non 2048 skins (Fly's and Stanislao's for instance") should allow you the option "Increase Color Depth". HD skins are aleady in that format so you only get the "Decrease Color Depth" as option...

The "slower" version is not released yet.
If you use Epervier's mod, it should be  the fast one
You have to use prop pitch, the best being thrttle down, then prop pitch 90% then throttle carefully up (never above 2520 rpm).

I don't know anything about the LeO45 FM, but if from the Pe-2, it may be much too fast.

Please tell me what is your true max speed at what altitude if you still have problem.

Sometimes at medium-long distance the d-520 disappears and reappears
In dogfight is very difficult to follow with the sight  ???
This happens to someone else?

Title: Visibility range fix
Post by: Birdman on May 21, 2013, 01:52:15 PM
I actually quickly fixed the visibility range and some other LOD bugs just after release, but my fix is a bit messy with LOD values edited in so many parts. Anyway, I decided to share what I have due to some visibility distance bug reports. This fix is still a bit WIP because I haven't had the time to check it properly and some parts like right vator and stab require some 3D work to get proper LODs for them. Anyway, it works and looks OK in game for me, so maybe it is useful for others also. If you want to see these beautiful planes a bit farther away, just unpack the attached meshes and let them replace existing ones. The fixed nose profile in v1.1 is already included.

I actually hope to see updated version with this kind of fix already included and hopefully with better LODs for right vator and stab.

In the FM side I'm actually still using Günther's first version with one small fix: I changed Wing_Mid to 3.16 and Wing_Out to 4.41 in [Arm] section to fix odd roll instability in dives caused by longer outer wing arms than wingspan. I'm not sure whether the engine running at too low RPM with lower airspeeds is realistic, but at least that feature makes dogfighting funnily challenging in D.520 and also in MB.152. I've also had some funny fights with that sharp stall, but I read that the real plane also had such behaviour.

Then one thing that might be some bug is that controls are easily broken when shooting at D.520 with MGs. Most of my bomber interception missions end with broken controls and AI pilots usually bail out in a hurry after first hits due to broken controls.

The plane HAD a roll instability (towards the left) in dives and sharp turns, often almost without warning. The truth is that is plane never finished its development - as a matter of fact the first 200 planes produced were refused for front line operational service (200!).

The instability I fixed was not something like realistic instability towards the left but rather some odd high frequency vibration around the roll axis that suddenly started around 600 km/h IAS, so clearly an error in FM calculations due to longer wingtip arm than half wingspan. The roll instability and sudden stalls and spins in tight turns are still present in Günther's FM, and I like the challenge they give me when fighting against those Bf 109 with more power.

Hi gens, great mod, lovely plane and much desired, thanks a lot, but I have problems with it.

Easy to replicate. MTO map, HMS Illustrious, speed 28, single ace AI Fulmar taking off from it. Saved in FMB, mission run in stock 4.12.2, vanilla HSFX 7.0, and HSFX 7.0 with Pa-Dore's JSGME mod. In the vanilla game, Fulmar takes off without problems; in HSFX, it takes off without problems; in HSFX+D.520 mod, it falls into the sea and crashes after takeoff. Tested several times. Start position is the same. Theoretically, everything is the same. It is the different FM that seems guilty. Maybe I shouldn't have applied it to HSFX 7.0 instead of 7.1. Maybe the problem is elsewhere. Thanks.

I can't get this to work in VP modpack. The D520 that came with it didn't work either (Which is why I tried downloading this one).

The aircraft shows up in the viewer but loading any mission with it just loads to a random plane (in QMB) or a blank screen. Please help, been fighting my PC to get this aircraft working all day!

VP solved this one for me, my problem was having Tiger's flybys enabled. The D520 from the Blitzkrieg pack isn;t compatible with the flyby sounds for now. Try disabling Tiger's mod and see how you go.
