... a very great map, but a very great number of textures are not indexed (24 bits instead of 8 bits), hence 708 Mb unzipped ...  ???

I managed to reduce it to 591 Mb unzipped by indexing a lot of .tga textures ...  ;)

I have successfully added text the the static ini file before so I know the text as been inserted into the static ini file in the correct place.

I'm not sure that the version 4.11 has brought any changes to the map. That is shown in the screenshot (maps.properties & maps_ru.properties), I provided an example of my game 4.11.1, in case you did not have these files.

I was previously convinced that if the map is loaded, but does not retain the mission, the problem can only be in the missing objects. Try again re-install everything. Maybe you missed something.

Works great in DBW.
One of the greatest maps ever. On par with the Solomons maps.

I didn't use the i18n files, and everything seems fine. Maybe I'll notice something later.

Missions build and save correctly.

maps are independent of any versions numbers, as long as you have all
necessary textures and objects you can use them.
I have it in 4.09, 4.10, DBW, HSFX, 4.11 and 4.12 (when its available  ;D).

I have to jump on the bandwagon and say this is a cracking map. It loads on my 4.09 setup with no problems and saves missions fine. Finally to have the city of Moscow is a real joy.

Beautiful map!
One error I found...in the forest on the north-east border of Moscow city is a jumble of roads.
Also, the river south of Rzhev is not connected in one place.  Maybe it's supposed to be like that?  Anyhow, I will be making a campaign for Rzhev so I'm particular about that region  ;D

Very nice map and also thanks for the many objects especially the beautiful village houses!
I have though a problem:I experience very low fps when flying low close to some towns for example Rzhev but even smaller towns or even villages. I tried to figure out what is the problem but couldn't get any hint. Anyone experienced the same? I have a good PC and it runs fine even on very densely populated maps...
Also noticed something weird about the trees: with forest=3 in conf.ini when you look carefully at trees in game you see that there are in towns/villages besides the '3D' trees also the normal '2D' 'treeline' ones. With forest=3 all 'treeline' are usually replaced by the '3D' trees. ???

Good work guys but i have found few thing that needs to be fixed, few ground textures has wrong size, they are 1024x1025 or 1025x1025, game console shows this as error.
Another thing is that most textures are just to big they could be resized to 512 or even 256 and indexed to 256 colors 8bit (only textures with alpha need 32bit) to improve performance.For example village houses and railstations object has 1024/24 textures when smaller 256/8 bit is enough to make them look good.City buildings could use 512 size to keep all their details.
I have resized/indexed all textures mentioned above and this saved a lot off disk space from more than 300mb to 60mb,and now when fly over map i dont see any difference all looks same as before but FPS improve especially above dense populated areas.

All those (in all respects) GREAT buildings that make up the Kremlin etc are simply amazing, but mind you there are a number of very detailed, small and a bit run-down country-side houses there as well - perfect for the Soviet countryside in the 40-ies.

Plus some new tree groups, including one autumn!!! VERY useful in other maps as well. (I've also noted that several of the simple dirt-strips don't have any objects there at all, not even the obligatory neat row of camo-nets and the odd gasoline cistern, which actually is ideal from a mission-builders point of view.)

Can't praise this map enough. One of the best around. And I have started building a campaign for it. The map is simply too good to resist :)

About the empty ground airfields, it is made intends, to the missions creator himself put it needed objects. This saves the size of static.ini
This idea was suggested Karabas-Barabas and I think it's right.

Look closely at trees in this figure, it's what I mentioned in my first post: the treeline and the 3d trees are coexisting! Never saw this before because 3d trees replace the treeline when you have forest=3 in the config.ini of the game. Never saw this except on this map. In principle this can be good because treeline pops up at bigger distance than the 3d trees.  8) Or maybe bad  :-\
Anyway I have no idea how is this possible .........

Mandrill, I checked this in FMB map mode. There's only one tree type which contains the key word 'treeline'. Hard coded il2 will replace any such with the 3d trees when forest=3 is in config.ini. I checked many other things still no idea why hahaha
If oknevas has placed his own mod trees together with treeline stock trees, you would get 2 different types of trees side by side.

I have 33 maps installed , 512, 1024 & 2048 maps, including 5 of okneveas maps and this is the only map I can not save a mission to -
my static ini is correct

Static ini checker did not indicate a static.ini file error, but missing objects = a 3do file folder in the Moscow download called "tree" -
well ,its files were mistakenly put into the Tex_ folder called "trees" when they should have been left in the 3do folder -
Map is functioning perfect now - So I need to tweet a Vodka Martini to SAS~Gerax

Work continues on my campaign for this truly EPIC map. The work name is "Operation Taifun", and it covers the entire Battle for Moscow from the beginning of October until mid-December. The Player is a German fighter pilot in JG51, particpating in the drive on the Northern Flank of the offensive - the one that actually got closest to Moscow, but also was hit the hardest by the Soviet counter-offensive.

To date I've made some 23 missions, the latest taking place on December 3, the day after motorcycle patrols from the 2nd Panzer Division reached Khimki, some 8 km away from Moscow city limits, the troops being able to make out some of the major buildings of the Soviet capital through their field glasses. But soon Zjukov will strike back...

I've said it before, but I have to say it again: this map is awesome, one of the best in the game!

However, I am having an issue where ground objects and buildings seem to disappear in the near distance where they should be visible. Here are some examples:

As you can see, the closer the objects, the less the effect.

It's a 27 mission static campaign, set in the period of early October 1941 to mid December. You are flying the Bf 109F, on the northern flank of the German push on Moscow. More details will follow later.

I see you are flying this campaign too so far I am at mission 15 and 15 kills went up 4 ranks. Not saying that I had to hit refly a few times but a great campaign and map. Sometimes forget I am in battle and just watch the scenery go by then bam got blown up hit refly again.

Ok, TICI

The 3do Folder goes in the MAPMODS Folder<----if all you have is HSFX Place this in your " Files " Folder

The maps Folder goes in the MAPMODS Folder <----if all you have is HSFX the Maps folder is in your " Files " Folder

Dont worry about the i18 Folder, its not critical to have. You need to learn these things and Folder Structure.

Open your STD or Com Folder, all the way to find your .ini's and you will see static.ini  then copy paste to the bottom of the static.ini the documentaion from the Download.

Hope you can understand all this!

Hello Il2 comrades, I have installed the Moscow map and can open it in FMB. I have installed Poltavas Taifun campaign. When I play the first mission the game freezes after about 30 mins (Tried 4 times} just as I approach enemy aircraft. Any ideas? The Map looks great and I have been waiting for it's release... My Spec.s are i5, GTX 570, 6g of ram, Win 7 64.

Do BoM.properties/BoM_ru.properties files go into #DBW/STD/i18n folder alongside others *.properties files (as weapons_ru.properties etc.)?
Does folder "Oks" go into folder #DBW/mapsmod/maps/_tex/land alongside folders "summer" and "winter"?
Or maybe does it go instead into the folder named "summer", just like some others are settled in?

I´ve got a problem with Poltavas Campaign for this Map. IL-2 gives me a CTD in the first mission after ~ 10 minutes after start.

I have a High-End System.I wonder if this is the reason for the CDT

This time I try the first mission without Gurner´s FX but no luck,same time,same situation,same CTD.
Really strange.I have a thought that something is happend at this specific point in the mission,maybe some Planes are Spawning or something else what leads to a mod conflict?
Anyway,next time I simply skip the 1.mission and see thats happend in the next ones.

I took a look for SEOW compatibilty, this map seems nice, I just noted one issue: only one rail blockage, a part of road and a road bridge instead of rail ones

We are discussing about including this map in the next HSFX7 release, my opinion is positive

Thank you hguderian for your reply, but I have already these files installed and working from the very beginning when there was this issue with the winter maps, in fact the flyby Tiger sound works if I use default Moscow map in the QMB, it doesn't work with the winter version of the new Moscow map . Go figure it !

The issue is in the Operation Taifun Campaign when it use the new Moscow map with the snow. I think it could be anything and very difficult to find out, unless someone out there has experienced the same problem and fixed it. I use other winter maps in Campaigns and Singles missions without problems, only this map has this issue.

When this map was first released I had a difficult time downloading it and then I forgot about it until today. I must say some of the objects are truely works of art. Some of the Moscow objects such as the cannon and buildings along with the cabins and the amazing hangers with see through glass windows blew me away. The map and its textures are not the only things that are stunning with this map. The beautifull new objects add a lot to the feel of the map.

Strange, blank plates are included in a standard game. Open the static ini press ctrl+f and enter the Title BlankPlate and check whether it exists in this group and correctly recorded this element

So there is nothing wrong with this patch,
tested it in 4.12, works, like the new summer map!  ;)

But as I have the same problem like Redfox I will have a closer look
later whats wrong with my static.ini(s) in DBW ..
btw: I use the static.ini coming with Boomers pack wich I have installed.

I had checked my static.ini before I posted. I have checked again and a clean copy in an vanilla #DBW folder and I don't have any mention of a 'Plate$BlankRunwayLong' in either. Cheers - Redfox P.S. sorry guys, my fault, it does not exist in stock 4.10 static.ini.
(had too many static.ini files open and mixed them while searching this object ;D
but now extracted it from 4.10.1 files.sfs and had a look again).
also has a look into stock 4.11.1 static.ini, the same: no BlankRunwayLong.

So it definitely comes with 4.12.

Just downloaded and installed this map. Opened the autumn map in FMB and the three aerodromes north of Smolensk are surrounded by grey circles, tried the winter map and the same applies. Is this normal or specific to, perhaps, a bug in my installation?

I finally got around to adding this map into my 4.12 5.30. I noticed that there was a "new" summer map, so I added that also. I noticed that all three original maps loaded and saved correctly, but I couldn't get the new "summer" map to save. Obviously, there was something in the smactors file that I didn't have.

Since I am a lazy slug, I just changed the summer map to load "actors" instead of "smactors"
Summer map now saves.

First, let me say that this map is wonderful. Throughout, you have used many clever manipulations
to get the most out of this old game. Well done!

However, I am having a problem with the summer version. Autumn, winter and spring loaded
and saved missions without problems. Summer loads but will not save missions for me.

I went back to the original setup, where the map wouldn't save missions. I used the static checker
to see if I was missing any objects. The only object listed as missing was “buildings.Plate$AirfieldSr”. I double checked the installation of the object and I believe it is correct. Altered or modified in some airports (starting point, taxiing and parking are not affected), deleted accidentally left the extra facilities. The important point is the restructuring of major cities such as Smolensk, Kalinin, Tula, Kaluga and other (reduced building density), resulting in improved rendering performance shots of these cities. Try deleting the last section of the load.ini ([Airfields]). It's required by Zuti's Friction mod which is not available for 4.12. I'm just guessing that it is the source of your problem.

Without Zuti's friction mode the airfields will be coarse unless the Cannons BlankFieldPlates are applied.

Of course the grass runways will not work without the friction mod or without blank plates. I assumed that the map was updated with blank plates but now I see that there's only a few on each airfield.  The plate you wanna use is called 'Blank Parking Large'.

Removal of the paragraph [Airfields] is unnecesary.
What is essential, is disabling or removal  the friction mod from the #SAS folder.
Adding of either blank plates, BlankFieldPlates or similar ones is necessary not only for grass airfields, but for any of them, if smoothing is required.

Thank Uzin, I used the friction mod file from your Belarus download (great map btw, thanks!) and it seems to work with 4.12 and allows BoM maps to load with the airfield data!

However I think there will be a problem with aircraft using the runways IIRC

This aproach usually select all the map area smoothed, in the present case to 1.85.

I cant get the map to load... which is so frustrating because IT LOOKS AMAZING.

DBW 1.71.   When I try and load the map I get a Map Load error 'BOM/aload.ini'      Firstly the log showed an error loading S1.tga, which didnt seem to exist in the oks subdirectory, so I installed Oks texture fix and now the log file shows errors loading various fieldsxx.tga files each time I try.  the files are there in the oks subdirectory

really confusing      or is this actually something to do with the static.ini?

DOH    all sorted.  I had /_tex/_tex/land...   instead of /_tex/land...       hope I havent wasted anyone's time.

..and its amazing   :)
