Works fine, installed and working on the first try ...

This is the kind of ship that is nice to have. No enormous battleship or gigantic aircraft carrier, but the everyday workhorses of a fleet ... it's a great addition.

And perhaps here might be the place to ask:

How can you get empty spacing lines in the listing of ships in the FMB? Now, I have a continuous list of ships, while for purposes of finding particular models, it might be easier to have empty lines so that ships can be grouped by type ...

I daren't experiment to much with these ship/chief files, nor do I even have a notion which one determines what in the first place ...

All I know SO THAT IDENTIFIES

stacionary.ini
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KAMIKAMARU ships.CZOldCarpenter KAMIKAMARU $ 2 - Axis boats
                                final number
KAMIKAMARU ships.CZOldCarpenter KAMIKAMARU $ 1 - boats allies
if you had this in mind

I see in the read me that you have the spot for a technics_ru.properties but there is no entry to put in the technics_ru.properties. Is this intended?

Maybe so, maybe not ... but the ship works fine without that entry ... so, one line less ... less work.

I was thinking of a listing of ships somewhat like this:

TRANSPORTS

 TroopTrans0
 TroopTrans1
 TroopTrans2
 TroopTrans3
 Barge0
 Barge1
 Boat
 Boat1

CIVILIAN FISHING BOATS

 Fisherman
 Fisherman1
 Fisherman2

TANKERS

 Tanker0
 Tanker1
 Tanker2

etc etc ....

I was wondering if it needs those lines for when its hit as in do those lines tell it to sink?

Yeah I also thought about it, probably done by state and start of civilian ships and war then?

Agracier and anyone else interested:

How can you get empty spacing lines in the listing of ships in the FMB? Now, I have a continuous list of ships, while for purposes of finding particular models, it might be easier to have empty lines so that ships can be grouped by type ...

I daren't experiment to much with these ship/chief files, nor do I even have a notion which one determines what in the first place ...

It's not all that hard when you know how chief.ini works. Here's some lines from my chief.ini top, then bottom:

The LEFT column in the TOP portion of chief.ini is what I call the "naming column." You'll note that you can call anything by any name as long as you use something the game notices - like the submerged subs and the Russian G-5. In the TOP portion the different names don't need to use different objects; I just used different objects so I could keep things straight in my head. You can use the same object over and over again as I use the "separator" over and over. In the BOTTOM portion you can the same object for everything as I use the G5. When you name an object in chief.ini you can still use that object for something else if you rename it - you will NOT lose the submerged subs or the G-5 because they will have a different name.

In the technics_ru.properties all you need to do is use the correct name from the TOP portion of the chief.ini and then you can call it whatever you want. I use a series of "**" for my "separator" but you could use whatever you want.

Something to keep in mind: You can choose the "separator" or any of the titles and whatever object you've chosen to link to that title or separator IN THE BOTTOM PORTION will show in FMB and can be used as the object. Hence, all my titles and separators will show the Russian G-5.

A spinoff I discovered is that the air.ini is similar to the TOP portion of the chief.ini and you can separate out your aircraft as well.

Now, the Stationary.ini is a hoss of a whole other colour!! Explaining this and the air.ini ain't for this thread.

Hope this helps.

Bob

I noticed the download also contains the folder for USS Noa.
Is this ship ready for use? If so: are the class files included as well, and what are the entries needed for .ini files?

Love the Kamikawa Maru; thanks a lot for this great ship!   :)

Plowshare ... thanks for the lengthy explanation. I will figure out what you explained and see how it works ...

But just to certain - both chief.ini and technics_ru.properties need to be altered? Both, not one or the other ... is that correct?
Title: Re: seaplane tender KAMIKAWA MARU
Post by: asheshouse on March 25, 2013, 02:03:42 PM
You do not "alter" existing entries in the technics_ru.propertiies file. You add new entries.

Example:

Code: [Select]
[Ships.Allies]
 com.maddox.il2.objects.ships.Ship$G5
// adds a new line "Allies" to the "Ships" drop down menu.

Code: [Select]
Allies ************************************** Allies **************************************// substitutes new text for the word "Allies" in the "Ships" drop down menu.

Hi Archie!

I'm a bit lost in the update of the old carpenter project!

I have a part II , a part 4 and a part V still to install....but I can't understand how can I can got all ships!

Any chance to upload a last WIP situation with all the ships and the .ini lines?

I suppose that part V is the last but it have only the Kamikamaru lines so I can't check if I have all the ships....

Thanks in advance for your hlp!

You've already had this kind of problem with another mod, I think!
And I think your problems come from a bad installation.
Check your ini files and the location of the Mod.

I have the same 70% crash in BAT 3.6.1 - "PlMisChief: property 'speed' NOT found in class 'com.maddox.il2.objects.ships.CZOldCarpenter$KAMIKAMARU
java.lang.RuntimeException: PlMisChief: property 'speed' NOT found in class 'com.maddox.il2.objects.ships.CZOldCarpenter$KAMIKAMARU"
Strangely I have the ship working perfectly in SAS Modact 5.3 and Modact 6.4 - AND I simply copied everything over from the working example of the mod.
I have installed dozens of ship mods into BAT 3.6.1 including Westerns CV Pack and Kongo Pack, Gio's Akizuke DDs pack and USS Sims Pack, WW1 ShipYardSteam, J Class DDs, Archie's Merchant pack and many more, but it is only Archie's "CZOldCarpenter" KamikaMaru and the other "CZOldCarpenter" Pack of merchant ships which includes HM Warwick Castle, HMS Maplin KM Donau etc. that cause the 70% CTD.

Anyone got any ideas??

yes, belatedly, I got an idea for your request:
actually its quite easy to get this ship going;
the download is a mess - loads of classfiles you do not need but which trigger 70% errors;
what you need to do is:

1) extract the whole bunch
2) delete all classfiles except E3143226D77BC3E4 and 82B755D65C46CFC8
3) copy over the E314... classfile into the ships.objects folder and overwrite the classfile of the same name there (no worries, you do not harm anything)
4) go into the 3d folder and rem out or delete the USSNoaDD343 folder (there is no text how to add that ship so we dont need it)
5) you should have a folder containing the 3do folder and the single classfile starting with 82B755 now - this is your ship folder that goes over to WAW3 - name it whatever you want
6) do not forget to add the ini files .. voila, the Kamika Maru becomes available in BAT...

BAT in its current state is really a mess shipwise...loads of ships missing, the ship extension mod not integrated and many classfiles of the older variety, making adding ships quite interesting...

Thanks Griffon - Remarkable detective work; and now for the first time I have this great ship in BAT.
How did you know which were the relevant files and why did you suspect the BAT classfile archive was at fault?

I wonder if the same principle would apply to the CZOldCarpenter pack - I've always had the 70% CTD, no matter what I tried.

Many thanks once more

Squash

while I was at it, I also got the pack running you have mentioned...
actually it is quite easy once you know what you are doing;
you can open the classfiles with notepad and so you can sort of "read" what this classfiles is about;
in the case of the Kamikawa Maru, there was only one classfile inside that showed reference to that ship, while the others referenced ship I have never seen released for Il-2;
the bigger classfile (the one I told you to copy over and replace the one thats inside ships.classes folder) is referencing all ships, the creator of the mod did up to the time he released the Kamikawa Maru; it was bigger than the one originally in the ships.classes folder, so it was logic to copy and replace it with the file that came with the Kamikawa Maru :)
of course backing up everything beforehand helps a lot :D

in the case for the pack you have mentioned, try adding it and leave out the classfile you have copied over to ships.classes already :)
should work - if not, report back here and I try to get you going :)

Yes, it works.
Great work Griffon - Just like you said, each classfile relates to one of the ten ships plus the one that relates to all. It is very satisfying to have these ships in the game after so long.

One anomaly however, if the stationary entries are enabled, the game still crashes at 70%??? Lack of the stationary models is not a great problem, but do you know why this would be the case?

EDIT - Only the ships pack stationary entries cause CTD - not KamikaMaru

Thanks again for your excellent help

Squash
