Title: Mi-8T Hip version 1.0 [4.10]
Post by: BT~wasted on February 23, 2013, 02:16:43 AM
Mi-8T

The Mil Mi-8 (NATO reporting name: Hip) is a Soviet-designed medium twin-turbine transport helicopter that can also act as a gunship. The Mi-8 is one of the world's most-produced helicopter, used by over 50 countries.

Credits:
Original 3d model by Petr005, worked on by Marcfighters.

Adaptation for IL-2:
3d work: Wasted
Flight Model: Vega and Wasted
Java Work: Vega and Wasted
Advice and Ideas: SAS~S3

Big Thanks to SAS~Storebror, GJE52 and Loku for advice and help.

Features used from other mods:
"Ground Effect" by checkyersix from huey by FM
Sounds from huey by FM
DSHK 3d model by Wolfighter (Not sure, who made it. it was by default in DBW)

This mod was made and tested on DBW 1.7 installation (Jet War 1.2) along with latest AI Engine Mod 2.6. Also you will need L-159G by GJE52.

It includes Flyable version, AI version and stationary object.

alternate link(mediafire): https://www.mediafire.com/?0grayhvq40y9ihg

Important Notes:
Rotor Tilt (idea by SAS~S3): now, like in RL you have your rotor moving along with your ciclic. You can both see and feel the effect. The rotor mesh will be moving when you look at it from external. But the main feature is actual behavior changes. Now you don't need to pitch down that much to fly forward and it helps you to hover better and it also allows you to make something like Flare Landing.

Fixed Flight Model: Vega and me were working for some time to fix verious problems with heli flight model and seems result is more or less better then before. Fixed problems with backflipping at take off. So now you can hit 100% throttle if you need to. Hover behavior is also improved and now it is much easier. Fixed the very annoying bug, when your aircraft would suddenly start falling to one side. And there alot of other various little fixes here and there.

edit: if you are having difficulty getting the static version to display, the fix is described here: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,32834.msg352356.html#msg352356

Hope you enjoy!

Test flew it & flies beautyfully !... As a helicopter should !... Hovers still & stable & you can take off or land vertically
Very Good job Wasted & everybody involved ! Though I like very much the way Huey flies & it;s special handling features,
this one is more close to real helicopter flying characteristics...
Thank's

Hi Wasted,

Finally nice to see this Hip po for general release  :D

UN skin is quite different.

It will fit quite well with the up and coming Soviet aircraft.

Used in Angola too  :D

Thanks for the great effort

My AV software (NOD32) detects some adware/malware (Win32/InstalleRex.E.Gen) when trying to download this... Can you explain that?

Sounds great, but I don't advise trying it until this issue is checked. Sorry if this sounds rude but if it's a virus, than it may cause a serious problem to other users.

scanned with my av(avast) - no virus.
your call, though, at the end of the day.

The archive is really suspicious!  :-X
This is an executable that tries to load :
- Mi-8_V1.0.rar.exe
- 280Ko
- host : fastfileftp.info

Meanwhile, the download page to change!

A second attempt... income that is correct !
Now is correct page and d/l !!

my download is a rar archive; Mi-8_V1.0.rar (92.71MB)......no exe's anywhere in sight...? ???

This.

Could you upload it on normal site (like MF)?

Also, Malone, nothing offensive, but avast isn't the best AV out there. It failed me many times already and I saw myself as NOD32 detects hidden crap that Avast couldn't see at all - though NOD32 is payware, so avast is still the best freeware AV.

EDIT: The download page has just changed, and the download doesn't contain any viruses anymore... strange.

mati, i'm quite sure avast isn't the best, being free and all, but i will happily continue using it until such time as it fails me.
4 -odd years down the line, it has yet to do so.
also, it uses way less resources than some of the fancier payware options.  ;)
to each their own, though - whatever works for you. :D

Same problem here : while downloading it, some softs were installed. I uninstalled them after. Same opinions as others : why do you not upload it to a "noemal" site, not trying to install you some softs you do not want to ?

NOD32 uses even less resources - that's one of the reasons I switched for. I still have avast on another computer though, so I have comparison - I had my pendrive infected once - avast detected some malware and claimed, after deleting it, that it's clear. Than NOD32 detected the Conficker - almost got my other system messed up.

Back to topic though :P

mediafire doesn't works for me. Game front doesn't works for many ppl. This site is nice and easy to use. I don't know waht is happening to you. No software is installing for me. Maybe pressing the wrong button?

Anyway you are free to upload it as it is to mediafire and post a link here.

Ok, have it already.

FM-wise it's the best helicopter in Il-2 so far. It handles ubelievably realistic and smooth, without any major issues.

On the other hand it has some techinical issues. Firstly, it has a phantom front turret taken from Cobra, which is not realistic... secondly, at least on may computer, there is no engine sound at all... Finally, the shadow is messed up - thouth i guess this feature is WIP.

I've got a bit of troubleshooting to do here.

Goes purple.
The static shows up on the stationary list but when I select it, it doesn't show up on the map.

Cockpit and everything else works but no helicopter sounds.

Was I suppose to import/place something?

hmm i remember i had this problem on another aircraft as well, im pretty sure it was some texture issue, try redownloading and installing, if that doesn't work the im sure the creater knows.

The purple colour is a hi res texture issue. You need the Hi-res mod

well, definitely seems like a texture problem, you might try re-downloading in case it was corrupted.
when i asked about your mod environment, i meant UP? DBW? ModAct? and such....
your screenshot shows a problem , but still provides no clue as to such info..... :D

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,28127.0.html

G

And if our computer does not support Hi-Res skins ? Is it possible to use it only with 1024 X 1024 skins ? Because I resized all the skins in 1024, but no go with them... and I do not want to use the Hi-Res mod, because my PC will not handle it...

I know there is a retexturing trick, in the summer folder, but I do not remember which one !
Title: Re: Mi-8T Hip version 1.0
Post by: S3231541 on February 23, 2013, 06:04:40 AM
problem is in 3do\plane\aircraft\summer\.tgb file. you can rename the file to skin1o.tga and open with Photoshop then resize it to 1024 then save. then rename the file again to .tgb and it should use 1024 texture no problem.

Title: Re: Mi-8T Hip version 1.0

if you don't want to use HD mod, you need to go to your summer folder and rename the Skin1o.tgb to Skin1o.tga, open it, resize save and rename back.

As for turret, and before reporting this, be so kind and test all loadouts. There is a loadout with 12.7 DShK machine gun. It appears only if you select the appropriate loadout. This turret is used to handle it.

Well, sry, what I mean is that the turret is there and working even if there is deffault loadout selected, without the turret - the MG is invisible than, but, oddly, it still works. Other loadouts work perfectly.

EDIT: Strange... after installing Hip my game tends to randomly CTD at launch, here's my log:

problem is in 3do\plane\aircraft\summer\.tgb file. you can rename the file to skin1o.tga and open with Photoshop then resize it to 1024 then save. then rename the file again to .tgb and it should use 1024 texture no problem.

Did it, working now. Thanks.

But there must be another problem : even if they appear in the menu list, I can not use the custom skins (I have resized them to 1024, 256 colours as usual, they all do the usual 1026 Mo).

@ mati140, looks like you have some missing/corrupted textures (or some texture problem) but i have no idea what those internal errors are

mati140, sorry I don't see any errors related to Mi-8. Can you describe how it happens?

As for disabling cockpit with loadout, it is not possible. The only solution that I can offer is just don't switch cockpit when you use loadout without MG.

It looks like a problem with some effect mods or some artillary mods as well.
Title: Re: Mi-8T Hip version 1.0

It simply crashes randomly in loading screen... Not sure at how many % - 20% last time, but I'm not sure what it was before. It crashes with Windows promtpt saying "Il2fb.exe has stopped working" which doesn't happen with usual crash. That's why I wonder if I didn't hit the Java wall (too many mods).

As for turret, I don't mind another cockpit, but is it possible to set ammo-count for turret to 0 when a loadout doesn't include it (like for empty loadout)?

I use DBW 1.7 +4.10

Maybe the weapons platform is missing?

I can't resize the skins, I'm afraid I don't have photoshop. If anyone can post the skins in 1024, I would appreciate it very much.

Seb, please, if you want someone to help you, help your self first:

first of all you can read first post carefully and you will find that you need to have L-159G installed. Second, don't be lazy and post your logfile, third you need to post a list of all installed mods.

After this I might be able to help you.

Post by: SAS~GJE52 on February 23, 2013, 11:49:42 AM
Ok guys, this has been said 1000 times but I see I have to say it again

1 Read the thread to see if some else has has a similar problem and if a fix has been suggested.
2 If you have a CTD or similar issue then post the log file otherwise (as we are not clairvoyant) you will be ignored.
3 You download and install all mods on the understanding that you know what you are doing .
4 If you failed at step 3, read the help threads here until you do.
5 Each install is different, there may be some issues with a particular mod in your set up, that is, and will always be, your problem.
6 These mods are generously provided free of charge - there is no guarantee, waranty or 24/7 helpdesk support.

Remember it is up to you to help us to help you.

In fact, I hope there will be 2 versions : one for the peoples using the Hi-Rez mod, and one for the peoples not using it, only in 1024 X 1024...

My only problem with it is the custom skins. This apart, this beast is working (a superb beast, must I say). I am using it in DBW1.71.

I've downloaded it 3 times in case of corrupted files, I still do not get a AI in the selection screen, and I have tried to resize the tgb file in the summer folder, It will let me resize to 1024, but won't let me rescale it to 8bit, says it needs to remain 24bit.  I put the new 1024 in and the flyable Mi-8 is still pink.......... I resized one of the skins to 1024 and and 8bit and I can see it in the skin list but I can't apply it.  So there is another trick to it could someone who has the new rescaled tgb working send it to me via PM?

Thanks

Cheers

Hoss

Hoss you trying to put it in HSFX?

No Bravo (miss the old name).................. it's in DBW 1.7.1 with engines mod 2.6....... the helo works, but I just can't get that dadgummed tgb file converted

Says

Because of the requirements of the specified file format the saved file will have a bit depth of 24 bit(16.7 million colors) would you like to continue?

so it can't be saved in 8 bit using PSP 8 on my computer, but I can do the skins in the skin folder

can you change the file to bmp and then back to tgb?

I guess it won't hurt to try and see if I can convert the bmp or jpg back to a tgb.

Edit:

I tried it and it let me convert it back into a tgb, but it's still pink, tried to copy and paste the tgb file but it's too big even for code function I guess, I can email it to someone or they can email the good one to me...

Guys, I want this to be clear for everyone:

If you have your heli pink then you have problem with HD mod, because I and alot of other people have HD mod working flawlessly. With this question, please go to the High Resolution mod and search for solution there.

And again, as GJE52 said all posts without a log file will be ignored. If you don't want to help your self, nobody will help you.

as for 1024 version, I have no plans for it, because all other mods that I have in plans for release in upcoming days are also HD, and I don't have time for managing multiply versions. Sorry  :-\

Hoss, glad you sorted it out. Hope you found needed skins in the download :) I think I didn't tell anything about Mirage or MiG-21 and I didn't meant them. But yes I have a Third Generation MiG-21 pack coming, but it is based on original MiG-21 mod and it will be released only after general release. I think Mirage III will be there only after MiG-21 release.

Please lets not talk about this mods here. I don't want to see this topic closed. Thanks for understanding :)

I got it to work. I reinstalled the high res mod, I must of had a missing or corrupted file somewhere though. For those who think their system can't handle HD skins above 1024, I'm on pentium dual T3200 CPU and runs smoothly with 512 ram selector (make sure you have the latest~!). So give it a try, who dares wins.

Is anyone else missing the sound files?  :'(
I'm using DBW 1.7 + 4.10
I tried with these: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,8866.0.html

And also tried importing sounds from other helis but still nothing.

Then I installed the High Def mod and still had a pink model, because I forgot to resize the tgb back to the original. Everything works great now so uh, we had a slight cognitive malfunction, but… uh, everything's perfectly fine now. We're fine. We're all fine here now. How are you?

I also found a game destroying bug with AI version of Hip - they sometimes freeze in mid air and floods log blowing up the framerate - reloading the mission doesn't stop slideshow, the game requires restart. It may be somehow related to nose turret - it's invisible on AI Hips no matter what loadout you select. All freezes happened during contact with enemy.

Besides, are you planning to add "soldiers" loadout to human-controlled version of Hip (currently available only on AI ones)?

This works in SAS ModAct 4.0 (you have to have   TexMipFilter=2)  8)   Yyyaaaayyyy!!!

why do you say that, bud?
my TexMipFilter is set to =3 and it works fine in my Modact 4, as well... ???

Have you tried on a different map ?

Also recheck your install: #DBW /Mi-8/ 3Do.

Note I did not activate stationnaries yet.  I just entered air.ini and checked if the mod worked. Was in #DBW1.71, worked perfect.
Yes. I don't intstall/intstall stat. Mi24, Mi8, install all files, but...on first version mi24 i haven't this problem...

Hello, I've a strange issue with it: the Mi-8 appears correctly in QMB (except weapon pylons) but I got a crash without any error message when I hit Fly. Here's my logfile, hope it will help:

hi spitfire, i edited it for you, but the text had already been cut off, so it is incomplete.
could you try again, please?
just delete the very first part of the log with the brackets and date, because that interferes with the insert code option. ;)

Im getting a weird problem were Ai mi-8's don't move and apparently hover in the air with 0% throttle not moving.

kaxii, if you mean they are frozen in the air, with rotors turning, yes, i have seen that too.
i think it's to do with the loadout, some earlier jet plane mods had similar issues in the past.
i'm pretty sure it's easy enough to sort out, but it will help if you can test with all the loadouts, to try and identify which loadout is causing this issue. :D

Oops, my bad  :-[. But the problem seems to have been auto-solved! I did a test flight with the new Mi-24 (which is a real pleasure to fly, thanks to all involved!  ;D) and then re-tested the Mi-8 and it loaded and flew without any problem! But I still have invisible weapon pylons.

it sounds like maybe you didn't install the L-159G, which is a prerequisite for this heli's weapons to work correctly? it's mentioned in the first post?

I have the L-159G, I installed it when the first version of the Mi-24 was released.

Did mi-8's ever have flare dispensers?

And if so, could they be added in a later update?
Title: Re: Mi-8T Hip version 1.0

OK, it seems that the Mi-8 is somewhat "linked" to the Mi-24: when I fly the Mi-8, my game crashes but if I fly the Mi-24 and then take the Mi-8, I don't have any problem.

Almost a return to the roots of the game ! After all... IL-2 was a ground attack plane, and its mission was to cooperate with the troops !

I do not use HD, but it solved the problem of default skin pink. Now, resized the other skins, they look at other aircraft but not MI-8. Well, I can only use the default skin :( . (sorry for the bad English, I hope I explained)

Toronto, you need to upload your Screen Shots to a Image Uploader. I use  https://www.sas1946.rocks/images/imageshit/dead/dead.gif
Title: Re: Mi-8T Hip version 1.0
Post by: SAS~Malone on March 05, 2013, 10:37:28 PM
torontawa, to use the smaller resized skins, you will need to save them in RGB mode, and not in the regular Indexed mode.
then the skins will be usable.
this seems to be the case for several of the HD enabled aircraft. ;)

try these i have already done, and you can check the settings yourself.
i'm not 100% sure if it'll work for you, as i am using the HD mod, but for me, the skins only display in RGB mode...

With permission of the author, to look at the menu of weapons containers and MG, delete the word "Hidden" in the last paragraphs

well, I didn't give any permission, so it is not true. If you will look at java code you will see that pylons will appear when you in game. Its not a mistake. Same with machine gun.

Next time its better to ask. I know you wanted to help, but it is a bit annoying when someone is hijacking your thread and remakes your mod.

If you want to make another mod based on Mi-8 feel free to start another topic and post your edits there.

Thanks

Taras, i think with the translation issue, what he meant was, if he has your permission, and not that he already had it... ;)
but you are quite right about the so-called 'fix' - it is actually not a fix, and is simply a 'damage' to your mod.
i ask all members to not post any such 'fixes' in any mod thread, before checking with the author himself beforehand.
this is a fine example of why we ask this - as it doesn't help anyone, and causes unwanted results.
i will remove that 'fix' post momentarily.

Yeah, that definitely. Then after such fixes dozens of stupid questions like "Why my machinegune doesn't fire with default loadout", etc. will appear.

I've removed the "solution". First, to clarify that did not have permission to post BT~wasted this "solution" is a mistranslation, nor say it was a mistake, I just said what I've done for containers and MG. I also said that would not work even if seen. I did not know the effect it could have, I do not do mods.
BT~wasted I just want to thank you made this mod and I never wanted to correct or get your work.

I'm sorry not having consulted before posting.

Not hijacking the thread more.

But it is a heavier chopper also. The Hind FM is developed and Beta tested long time and I guess this new axis will be added in due time if the author find it proper

Have anybody tested Mi-8 in FMB? I've just tried to build mission with a couple of Hips escordet by player Mi-24 over Afghanistan-ish landscape, but no dice. AI version of Mi-8 loads as purple and submerged somewhere in the corner of the map, non-AI version doesn't load at all (just empty space in place where it should be).

(Edit: both versions play perfectly in QMB, problem is only with FMB)

Yes. On some maps it simply doesn't spawn (doesn't exist), on some exists as apurple ghost:

Very corner of Hormuz map. Player aircraft was loaded normally.

Redownloaded, still no effect. I think either my Il-2 installation lacks some essential mods, or some other mod may be interfering, as I also have some trouble with other helicopters. Case closed, time to reinstall whole game.

Ummm, im not the best at this, but i can't find anything to do with the Mi-8, it is all to do with the mi-24 and it's skin.

Is it possible to find a solution to whatever is happening? I've found out that same thing applies to any other heli, if Mi-8 or Mi-24 is flown by player, but sometimes, just sometimes, it miraculously works.

The error is confirmed, I have this issue with one of my WIP plane as well. The plane work okay in QMB but this start to appear in FMB. I don't think that it's related to the HD mod, because I remember that this happen even before that in some of the mission I play with stock plane.

@ Valkas

In your logfile,
it states Perfect Mode is not supported for your combination of hardware and drivers

That may be the reason the true textures Mod is not working for you
and why you get a pink/purple looking skin

Perfect Mode is needed to run the true textures Mod AFAIK

Maximum texture size : 4096

MaxAnisotropic (1.0 = none) : 2.000000

..a stupid question,i can't take-off at full weight (Rockets,MG and Cargo..),i start the engine 1,then 2,select both.then full throttle,but the chopper run but doesn't take off...

...any news?

Hallo Mi-8 enthusiasts!

Some news for you:

I have a general update coming with some vital changes that I wanted to develop since I started Mi-8 project:

1. Deployable VDV infantry: now your Mi-8 can be loaded with various combination of weapons and also few combinations of VDV infantry squad:

Regular:
13xAK-74 + 2xRPG-7

Afghanistan "Caravan" squad:
10xAK-74

Anti-Tank:
3xAK-74 + 1xRPG-7

Recon Squad:
4xAK-74

This infantry can be used in any mission even in QMB and doesn't require any specific manipulation, just select loadout, land or hover and press a button and voalia you will see soldiers jumping out of your helicopter and a squad positioning itself around your chopper ready to fight in a few seconds. And you can just watch as they blast everything around or help them with your weapons.

Soldiers can crouch when under fire.

Also you will get 15 in-game score points for every successfully deployed soldier. I've decided to implement this, so that player will be at least somehow rewarded for insertion missions.

2. Bot AI and player slots combined successfully: No need to have two separated flights for player and AI. This was my second main point. Now you can start a mission in QMB and watch as your wingmans deploy troops or blast stuff around.

3. FM is made same as in Mi-24, so it is very accurate and responsive.

4. Lots of other tweaks here and there.

Oh well. What is next? You land, step out of your heli, light a cigarette, squint at dusty Afghan landscape and whisper some mild swear words while "Liube" or other Russian militaristic rock band plays in the background? Just select loadout "awesomeness" and press a button!

You may be lacking either L-39 sounds mod (you need to download it separately) or Mi-24. I honestly don't remember wich one of them contains sounds for Mi-8.

That infantry looks amazing.  Just to clarify my understanding, will they be able to get back in the chopper when their mission is completed, or do you drop them off and then that's it?

I don't think Il-2 will ever allow such level of interaction with objects. But you always can gun them down and pretend they got to the choppa =]

The AI does not know how to use a heli.

The situation is the same in 4.10, DBW 1.71, besides the Mi-8 the Mi-24 is also problematic for the AI to handle.

No worries Gentelmans! The problems with AI solved. So no more double slots for AI and human and no more hustle for mission makers. Everything working as it should be. the only problem is that AI can take off but not land. They explode just before the touchdown. Maybe after release someone will be able to help me.

How cool!! This will be great fun. I know you plan points for insertion but will the player get points for whatever the guys kill? Kinda like the FO smoke markers for artillery...really can rack up points with those!

I have only just caught up with this thread, and it sounds amazing to be able to insert infantry into position, really opens up a new area of the game.

I was wondering theoretically, without knowing the workings of the infantry code, would it be possible to implement a similar deployment for parachute and glider infantry?

Not a request, just enquiring about the limits of the code.

AI flies the heli in a really weird way, sometimes I even saw them stick in the air not moving and i don't think they are hovering  :)
Anyway it's a great step for IL2 to get into the helicopter's world although so far i haven't been able to learn to fly a heli.
Besides your idea of inserting soldiers into the heli makes the game even more funny :D :D

Only problem is, the AI version seem to be floating in the air. In other words, not moving.
Has a fix been provided somewhere?

Guys, I have a version with one slot for both AI and player. So you can fly in one flight with your AI flight mates like usual IL-2 aircraft. But it still has a problem with takeoff and landing. Same for Mi-24.

I don't play IL-2 these days, because it looks ugly and unplayable with internal built-in GPU, but maybe I'll have a look at this mod again in near future.
