Title: This is Good........This is not [SOLVED]
Post by: RDDR Hangar19 on January 31, 2013, 10:43:52 AM
I am in need of a bit of advice guys.
I have a NVidia GForce 560 and I'm running DBW  as well as The full Monty.
I'm pretty Comfortable with GForce Cards and up until this last while I have had no problems.
I guess a picture is worth more than me gabbing so here goes.

This is good:

This is Bad:

 This Is Worse:

I have no idea what is going on. Not sure where to look for a conflict.
It only seems to appear over water. Such as Palau, The Channel, and other ocean maps . I'm stymied .
My power source is fine...New computer,no overheating...I dont know.
I could put up my specs but I'm hoping that someone will know, or have seen this problem before.
If not that will be what I do next.
Thanks In Advance, RDDR A&A

does this only happen with IL2?
have you made any hardware changes recently?
any new driver updates recently?
you say new computer, might just need a driver update
either way, for starters, you might just try reinstalling/updating your nvidia drivers.
post your specs, please mate, might as well have a look.... ;)

Hi Malone...A late Happy New Year.
I have changed  drivers twice. Old drivers have been cleaned out before the new.

RDDR You should be able to fix that with your NVidia Control Panel, But Im an ATI guy and not sure how your Panel works.

Hi yes I've seen similar corrupted images - when overclocking nvidia cards. In fact my 660ti is currently overclocked and occasionally I start a pacific mission and get presented with some weird acid trip distortion of the palm trees

M

Yeah Mick, I tried more than once. Hoss has thrown in with me over at our house and offered help as well.
One thing for sure, I'm encouraged coming here.
Bravo,Marcost, Malone,Mick, thanks all of you for your input.
I'll leave this up for another day or two and see what happens.

Cheers,RDDR

Here's his conf.ini

I had him - his -#DBW folder and install a Vanilla one, that did not fix the problem.  He has the latest drivers installed, I was concerned that the problem doesn't present itself immediately, so I have started to suspect a overheating VGA or a flaky Power supply.  I went through his nvidia settings once before and they were good at that time, I guess I could look at them again.  His box is not much different than mine, I experienced a graphics problem with TFM, I'd lose half my fps when looking at the horizon, I could look straight down, straight up and get max fps, it was wierd, I put the vanilla #DBW folder back in and the fps has gone back to 60fps vsync on....

So I'm rebuilding my #DBW back up slowly and seeing which mod tore up my fps.

Another alternative is for him to reload il2 to see if something in his install might of gotten corrupted, I've had that happen on more than one occasion......  :(

If anyone had this problem and found the fix, please let Chris know

Cheers

Hoss

It only seems to appear over water.

... then easy and quick test in conf.ini:

Instead of Water=3 try:

Water=2

or

Water=4

I also have  an old NVidia card (GTX260) but have never set my Water to anything other than =2 or =4 ... ;)

Sorry, Mick I have tried that, however I'll go back later today and not only  that but fire up Silent Hunter 4.
Seems like water is the big problem.

Well,
Bravo,...( Mick,Got your PM ) Marcost,and Hoss,and Malone
I tried out Med Maps...Malta,several other Med maps with lots of water, and much to my surprise everything was fine. Beautiful water and no Light Show. Flying low, away from landfall, freezing action with the P key...Nada!
I took time to also fly different aircraft  F4U's Zekes,Spit's and Tiffies. It seems I only have this problem now in the Pacific.. Damn!! Don't have a clue
why.
By the way Mick,I changed my water from 4 to 2.
Lastly fired up Silent Hunter 4. Lots of nasty waves and no weird alien fire balls and triangles.
Looks like this might be a conflict possibly with The DBW, Monty's Mod, or the sneaky IJN.
I really appreciate your help. All of you.
Christopher

I had something similar when messing around with anti-alias and/or anistropic filtering.  Try that.

By the way Mick,I changed my water from 4 to 2.

... well then you normally lost detailled waves and foam (bad weather) ...  :-[

I know Mick, I know by now.
I'm back up to four on the Slot map. Tomoose, thanks for your input.I most certainly play with both settings.

Mick I went back to my Nvidia settings.  I set my overall not at High performance as my PC is very fast but Hi Quality
as well as to Global rather than IL2 on 3D Settings. Back on the Slot map I got up to the end put the mission on P  freeze for over a couple
minutes then continued around and back to Guad without a prob. That to me was a suprise.
Next a test of Monty's JG53  Campaign and cross Channel testing...Baa!

Hey Chris, I know we went through this once before on skype, but here are the settings I'm using in nvidia control panel, I know you don't have TIR so use the Off settings on Triple buffering and V sync

Code: [Select]
Ambient Occlusion Not supported
Anisotropic filtering 8x
Antialiasing - FXAA Off
Antialiasing - Gamma correction On
Antialiasing - Mode Override any application setting
Antialiasing - Setting 8x
Antialiasing - Transparency Multisample
Cuda - GPUs All
Maximun pre-rendered frames Use 3D application setting
Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration Single display mode
Texture filtering - Anisotropic Off
Texture filtering - Negitive Lod bias Clamp
Texture filtering - Quality High Quality
Texture filtering - Trilinear optimization Off
Threaded optimization Auto or Off
Triple Buffering if you use TIR On
"       "      if you don't use TIR Off
Texture filtering - Anisotropic filter opt. Off
Vertical sync if you use TIR On
"      "   if you don't use TIR Off

I also use nvidia inspector to set a couple of more things the regular control panel does not use.  Remember if you use the Global settings it will use those settings for every application or game you play, which isn't good if you do DX games, il2 is OpenGL and the settings I just gave you are for OpenGL and il2.

Here is another site that's good for tweaking your video card, and Windows 7, XP or which ever version you use

Tweak Guides   http://www.tweakguides.com/

Tweak Guides for video settings     http://www.tweakguides.com/Graphics_1.html

nvidia Forceware settings  http://www.tweakguides.com/NVFORCE_1.html

there is a host of good information on many games here.

Cheers

Hoss

Tomoose,
Took your suggestion and late last night ran a clean Monty's JG53 mission from France to Englands South Coast with a lot of DO17's. Clean as a Whistle. Before it was looking like The Filmore West but it seems to have settled down.
Hoss and I are going to look for bits and pieces of any other Nvidia drivers just to be sure.

I want to thank the folks that offered their help. Thanks to all of you I now have a stable
 Nvidia card.
I have run it by  with Monty's JG53 ...Lots of water and it now looks great. Tomoose...It was a bingo.
Thanks Again,
Cheers RDDR
