Title: PaintScheme
Post by: leszek957 on January 11, 2010, 09:12:29 AM
PaintScheme is a structure in game code. This structure is responsible for displaying country and tactical signs on model skin (on the default skin too). For this reason title of this topic:
http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,13.0.html (http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,13.0.html)
should be "Default skins and how to change them".
Once upon a time...... 8) I'm asked Ranwers why His Spitfire MkI have wrong rundel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Air_Force_roundels (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Air_Force_roundels) ).
He answered me that is more complicated and send me class file that contains proper roundel. After a careful "analysis of the code" 8)
I found the answer - PaintScheme.
Now I want to change default PaintScheme for B-17F.
http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?quickkey=lzerl3mddnj (http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?quickkey=lzerl3mddnj)
On the left panel we can see static block definitions from B17F model.
On the right panel we can see all PaintScheme classes defined in game code.

My intention is to bring close apperance of our birdies to the historical one.
please look at this:
http://www.mediafire.com/?hhdulnzxqbe (http://www.mediafire.com/?hhdulnzxqbe)
http://www.mediafire.com/?ie5dgjmkicb (http://www.mediafire.com/?ie5dgjmkicb)

May be it will be useful for 3D programmers...  but now we have no chances to make PaintScheme similar to B-17G.

These are fantastic and long needed, but PLEASE do not forget to add the new Hurricane IIc Tropical and Hurricane IV Tropical to your corrected Hurricane roundels files.

Nice to read this  :)
but...
I've just deleted my "clean" instalation UP2.0 + Last Patch and don't remember which of "birdies" need to be corrected. AFAIK there were problems with Hs-123 & Hs-129 - it is difficult (for me   :) ) to find pictures from the time of WWII.

You might also want to "fix" the Bf-109F's since the game wants to have them use the later war crosses without the black outline versus the cross with just the white outer portion.

It is a good idea, but...
please read this, what CAN & what CAN'T we do:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/ztyko4ydnn2/00_ReadMe.zip (http://www.mediafire.com/file/ztyko4ydnn2/00_ReadMe.zip)
As a MAT user You can prpare *.tga files with haken and balkencreuces.
As a "Happy User of 13 class files for Bf-109F's" You can try to experiment.

Please look at this:
http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?quickkey=lzerl3mddnj (http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?quickkey=lzerl3mddnj)
On the right panel we can see all PaintScheme classes defined in game code.
If I change one of this file (where the PaintScheme is defined), I change the lenght, MD5,CRC-32,SHA1 and many other parameters and the game crashes - may be because I'm not Java Guru 8)

We need to have the possibility to define:
- *.tga files for both sides of fuselage
- *.tga files for bottom surfaces of wings
- *.tga files for upper surfaces of wings
- *.tga files for both sides of rudder/s
and we need to have " proper 8) " Java Guru to do this.

Please DO NOT INSTALL files from this topic to U&P 2.0 N .
I want to check the length of class files in our new "N" instalation.
The rule is simple:
length of the old and the new file must be the same.
Otherwise the game may hang at startup.

It looks like some class files are reworked in U&P 2.0N:
Bf-109E4/B,
Bf-109G14,
Bf-109K4,
Bf-109K4C3,
Fw-189
Fw-190D9Late2

Please let me know if I forgot something  ::)

For UP 2.01 all classes from this topic working correctly.

Please let me learn about this mod, cause i´m not sure if i understand right what i need to test it. I use MatManager yet.

Can i use this together with MatManager or is it a substitue?
Do i need all the small file packs here posted or is on "master" file package existing?
And how to install?

thx in advance :)
Title: Re: PaintScheme
Post by: leszek957 on October 26, 2010, 12:12:47 PM
- this is no substitute of MAT. Mat is needed because of his ..\Regiments folder that contains proper TGA files "used in pack".
- use Your Mat Manager safely,
- this "small mat files" are needed to display "single letter + black triangle" tactical signs like on the first phothos from Your linked topic.
- instalation are "described" in ReadMe.txt.
- other class files may be used to change "single letter + black triangle" to "chevron/number + GruppeSymbol" or "number + GruppeSymbol"
or "two letters + two letters" or "small two letters + two letters" (12 possibilites).

This "pack" is designed for DGen campaigns, for example You can use air.NW_FW_190G3 and air.FW_190G3 in one campaign.
You can use "single letter + black triangle"( black triangle is on the skins ) for NW_FW_190G3 and "small two letters + two letters"  for air.FW_190G3 - in one mission.
Sounds complicated but I checked it "in action" in the campaign Murmansk Jabo - and working correctly.

.... nice words, thanks.

I did it with overlays from crazyflak:

files for 262:

This "pack" contains complete set of files for FW-190 F2, for new version of great Karabas-Barabas Mod ver. 1.3 3 jan 2011.
(http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,7702.0.html). Useful for MAT users.
Like mentioned:
http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,10050.0.html
Files:
files for FW190F2 Karabas-Barabas Mod - classes with all possible PaintSchemes,
grab0002.tga - "native" FW-190 F2 (air.NW_FW_190F2 in air.ini), PaintScheme with letters, skin from Boelcke, no "Jabo" black triangle on skin.
grab0019.tga - "native" FW-190 F2 (air.NW_FW_190F2 in air.ini), PaintScheme with letters, skin from Canon, "Jabo" black triangle on skin.
grab0002.tga - FW-190 F2 (air.FW_190F2 in air.ini) added by Karabas - Barabas mode (I'm using "late series" string in plane_ru.properties file), skin from -=FA=-Jaws, PaintScheme with numbers and "black haken and balken" - file 19CF41B2A3A35E14FM04 renamed to 19CF41B2A3A35E14.

Installing Karabas Barabas mod, we can put the two machines of the same type with different PaintScheme even with the same default skin.

Installing:
- backup your original 19CF41B2A3A35E14 file
- copy 19CF41B2A3A35E14BM00 from this pack to original location
- rename 19CF41B2A3A35E14BM00 to 19CF41B2A3A35E14 in original location
- start IL2 and test new scheme.

Usefull links:
http://www.ww2.dk/air/attack.html
http://www.asisbiz.com/Fw-190A.html
http://fw190.hobbyvista.com/werkn.htm

I made sets of files for all machines From Karabas-Barabas mod because my favorite "Foki" were painted and marked in many ways.
Mod author may propose only one way signs and chosed one (PaintSchemeBMPar02) for all machines.

Looks like you boys are well on your way with the markings, but I'm curious about the American P-51Ds and the P-47D-27 and P-47D Late. The nubers on the side are too low. Has anyone ever looked into moving them up a bit to be move on level with the National Insignia?

"... be sure, two weeks ..." - early quotation from Oleg M  :)
You talk about overlays that are defined by the author of the 3D model :).
Please look at the first post in this topic.

Please, consider to make a full pack with all these improvements when you finish. It would be easier and more sure to install.

Looking forward this.

Thank you.

Please, consider to make a full pack with all these improvements when you finish. It would be easier and more sure to install. ....
OK, but ...
installation consists of:
- selecting one of 13 files
- change the name of the selected file by deleting the last 4 characters of the name
- backup the original file
- replacing the original file
- restart the game
- the repetition of this step in order to select an appropriate scheme
Therefore there is no automatic installer.
Everything must be done manually and deliberately  :)
Due to individual MAT settings does not make sense to include the "screenshots".
In each game instalation the same PaintScheme may be looks different.  ::)
Let's try:

More than that : those planes should carry 3 letters CODES just like P51C does, no ?
(would be a great historic accuracy to add, I think !
