Thank you very much ! :) :)
I'll test this beautiful beast with pleasure ...
-
A great addition for late war and jet war scenarios.
Thanks for doing it.
-
Another great work mate!
It's a really hard target for a blue pilot....but I bet that they'll do their best....to test her!
Thanks a lot!
walter
-
YES! Thank you. I've been waiting for this for so long. I cant wait to get home from work and install her. Thank you. :)
-
Many thanks for the beauty!!!! 8)
-
Congratulations on a job well done and a beautiful addition to the game. Kudos and thanks.
-
*Unknown modder that made the moving flag in Essex class since I used his work and animated texture to see what I need for my moving flag
I think the first time that appeared was on the PT Boat mod. SAS_Malone was involved but maybe was not the originator? Before that there were moving flags created for static flagpole objects? Who did that? -- Anyway, its great that these little visual improvements get re-used again and again.
-
Nice work !
Thanks a lot ! :)
-
The absence of a 'post Pearl Harbour' US battleship has always been a large hole in the game. Not any more - thank you, Diving Hawk.
-
Just came back from a long summer camp, and what do I find? THE BEST DAMNED BATTLESHIP IN THE US NAVY!!! Kudos hawk!
-
Great Work,thank you
-
Just installed it in my SAS ModAct 3.6 (410.1) setup; all fine, she is a true beast!!!! 8)
-
Awesome work Diving Hawk – thanks so much for all your efforts & for sharing.
So great to have another great captial ship - that can be used over a wide historical period 8)
-
I was going to install this mod but I found there is a folder with the same name for the ship classes. The folder is the one that came with the Yamato BB. Are the two folders the same or do I need to rename one of the folders? Just curious to find out before I install this great ship.
-
He use the same folder structure as Western (BTW I belive this system is very functional) so I can suggest to set three folders:
1) The first with all classfiles from the last Iowa (them are the newer and comprise the Yamato too) (x example I have named it JFC - ship - classfiles)
2) The second and third with only the 3do files for each ship so you can easily update each ship with the last verion release (x example I have named them JFC - ship - Yamato and JFC - ship - Iowa)
Hope this can help!
walter
-
Yes Western's way I thought was best as I could also easily update the classfiles for all ships without having to make a shipXXX with different name each time.
It's ok to replace the Ship folder completely.
The java error it gives if both ships are not installed is only in mission start and does not great things.
But if you want to avoid it I could tell you which classfiles to put in different folder.
-
Thanks Walter that work out great.
-
Diving_Hawk,
Fantastic job :)! I thank you and all those involved for a really great and needed addition to the IL-2 fleet.
Cheers,
Riptide
-
Diving_Hawk, thank you for your wonderful models, you (and all modders) greatly improve the game. This one is a real masterpiece
-
Diving_Hawk, Thank you so much for this gift. Your hard work will be greatly appreciate, over and over again.
Regards.

After installing the Iowa, I found that the other ships have disappeared. This is so, even in the game's start up movie. The Wildcats and the Zeros are shown taking off from invisible carriers. So, I removed the Iowa and reverted back to the original 'ini' files. However, my ships are still invisible. Any ideas about how I can fix this?
Cheers,
Riptide
-
There's an interesting twist to my problem. In DBW 1916, ships are still visible. How can that be? Ships are visible in DBW 1916 but invisible in DBW.
Cheers,
Riptide

There's an interesting twist to my problem. In DBW 1916, ships are still visible. How can that be? Ships are visible in DBW 1916 but invisible in DBW.
Most likely it's the same problem why the WWI maps don't work in DBW 1916 but do in DBW.
-
Cage,
Thanks for your input. However, that's not so in my case. The WWI maps work in my DBW 1916 install. In fact, for a test mission, I used the WWI English Channel Map and the USS Langley. So my problem is just that the ships are now invisible when I run a DBW mission, for example, one with cargo ships and fishing vessels on the Solomons Oct '43 Map.
Before deleting the Iowa from my install, I created a mission on the Caroline Island Map that included BB-61 in a convoy with a cruiser and a destroyer. I flew a plane from the island to 'buzz' the convoy, but only BB-61 showed up.
There's something wrong with my DBW install. Does installing the Iowa change some files outside of the DBW directory? What could cause all the ships to disappear? If there a conflict between the Iowa and something else, why would removing the Iowa not fix the problem I am having?
Cheers,
Riptide
-
If some ships do not appear then there will be an error message saved in your logfile.
Do the ships appear ok in FMB but not when you run the mission, or do they not appear at all?
Post the last part of the logfile if there is reference to the missing ships in it.
-
asheshouse,
I found the problem that stopped ships from showing up during missions. I changed some values in Ships.ini to make it possible to sink cargo ships using guns only. It seems that the numbers I used caused my problem. When I reverted back to the original figures, the ships became visible again during missions ... and the cargo ships were as durable as ever when strafed.
In answer to your question, the ships did appear in FMB. While this problem was in effect, I also noticed that I could put a carrier in a mission in FMB, but I could not set it as a takeoff and landing target for a plane.
Thanks for your comments.
Cheers,
Riptide

***EDIT, for those that also use Yamato***
I accidentally included a past Yamato class with the class files for v1
After installing apply this class fix (just copy contents of the folder to the folder with same name in Mods(#UP#,#SAS#,#DBW#)

Why Don't you fix it and redo the download............... lots of people don't know how to do this....
-
Fair point.
Just give me one moment
-->main link fixed.
-
I put it in my HSFX install and it seems to work just fine, I have it steaming with a US Carrier, against a Japanese Carrier and Yamato about two map grids away from each other. No hits scored on anything. I put in scouts thinking it would improve accuracy, no change was noted. But the scouts don't last long.............lol
How far are each of the numbered map grids, 10km or 20km?.......... 10sqkm..... 20sqkm?
-
Depends on the map really.
Anything from 8.7km to 10km per grid real distance ( not all maps are 1 grid = 10km)
2 grids is about 18-20km.
But I can't do anything about accuracy. ::) Wait till a hit is scored from these guns then tgt will be toast anyway.
-
Could you please upload it somewhere else? Can't download from the packload, don't know why :(
-
I have trouble uploading to mediafire,
Will try this evening

I'd like to report a bug with this fine ship, sometimes when I attack it with torpedoes and it scores a hit, the ship magically shifts maybe 50meters in any direction, an example, I put it on a narrow channel in the Slovenia map and repeated torpedo hits managed to push the ship onto shore ???. (That's when it's in sleep mode, e.g wait 5 minutes before starting off) Should be simple to recreate the bug, set the Iowa and give it maybe 10 minutes sleep, and attack it with torpedo bombers, this happened when I was using the SM.79.
This only happens sometimes, though frequently, some torpedo hits perform normally.
Does not occur with bombs or anti ship missiles/rockets as far as I know.
-
As far as I know there is no code in il2 to enable that kind of effect as far as ships are concerned.
The torps hit so collision is ok I guess. I don't use complex one anyway.
So I cannot fix sth I don't know why it happens, sry. If I get a clue about what you say maybe but till then I cannot fix sth I don't know why happens.
-
Perhaps something wrong with my install, there are some other glitches I've observed (where it suddenly flashes back and forth when near an enemy ship, quite hard to describe) but for the most part it performs fine. Modding such a complicated thing is bound to have its problems somewhere but ty anyway, the bugs aren't debilitating.
-
First of all thanks for the Iowa.
I have a problem with the ship showing up in FMB but not in the mission when I start it. I use DBW.
I can put the ship in FMB and it is there then when I start the mission its gone.
-
Thanks,
and I can get her as a Stationary but not Move type Ok I got her Moving now, Thanks again shes a Beauty!

Hi Diving_Hawk,
checked Iowa and looking good. Few smaller thing´s need corrected as UVW on few places ..
Anyway texture of boards on the deck can be solved other way with looking hi-res texture with save more bitmap for placeholder.
Prepare separate texture 32x32 pix with board texture, re-map whole deck to this small placeholder and in materials settings set "opaque".
Boards will be copy on the whole deck with hi-res looking textures. This saves more things like work, performance and looking better.
For example check Tirpitz, there was used this type deck. On your any new ship can be used this ... propably Ashehouse know this too.
-
Great job and thank you for this awesome ship!! An observation if I may, it looks like she is out of the water a little bit too much, doesn`t it?
The real Iowa is like that today, but she is empty, no fuel, no ammo, no crew... Fully commissioned Iowa would be deeper into water, up to her black waterline, in my opinion...

Any Idea on how to make it show up when a mission starts? seems my question was ignored or something. I can place it in FMB then nothing when the mission starts.
Can anybody tell me or will this be ignored too? :o :o
-
Can anybody tell me or will this be ignored too? :o :o
Now, as this isn't a company where people are obliged to serve your requests this may happen.
Any Idea on how to make it show up when a mission starts?
Check all of the entries in the ini files again.
-
See my response to your PM. This model is by Diving_Hawk not me so I am guessing.
Check that you have the new Gun text entries copied to the correct location in ships.ini
They need to go in the guns section, near the start, where the other gun entries are.
If it still does not work then post your logfile.txt http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,13457.0.html

Look forward to more mods like this.

New optimized version 1.1 posted.
See page no1
the most obvious change is that the size was cut down to 41.7MB from 60.1MB without loss in quality
Other than that most smoothness issues are now also solved + a lot of smaller fixes( again see 1st page)
Thanks for patience and support!
-
nice work, thanks for the update! :D
-
Cool, Thanks DHawk!
-
Walter Solito spotted an overlook (saving a tga file with compression) that can make ship not show up in FMB.
Reuploading new one now.
Those that can't get it to work should re-download after I finish in ~30mins.
Sorry for any inconvinience
-
Updated the main link.
Fixed a bug that caused damage model to have wrong position.
Should be good now.

Thank you very much for this update ! :) :)
I'll test it on my 409... of course ! ;)

Something I found during a test-battle against Yamato (game v. 4.09 UP2.01):
(the damaged part becomes very tiny, it seems)
NB: the battle included : Yamato, Kongo, Haruna, Nagato, Iowa, Tennessee, Colorado & Prince Of Wales.
-
Most possibly a scale issue for Hull3_dmg when exporting.
Will take a look tomorrow morning and upload updated version.
Thx for spotting.
EDIT: Sorry I made a quick test and I can't replicate the bug.
Can you reinstall and tell me if it's still there?
Anyone else having this issue in v4.09?
I made a new install of the ship with the link from first page but it works ok for me.
-
Unfortunately, due to location moving, I'll loose my Internet connexion today and won't have any time to do that...
... Maybe, some interaction between all present ships in this mission ? :-\
There were : Yamato, Kongo, Haruna, Nagato, Iowa, Tennessee, Colorado & Prince Of Wales (as generic US battleship ).
