Title: Russian Aerobatic Team (RUSS) L-39 Albatros [mapping updated]
Post by: GGM on November 24, 2011, 03:19:42 PM
The RUSS aerobatic display team consists of five white-blue painted L-39 Albatros aircrafts equipped with smoke generators. Short time ago every payable aviation fan could fly on the back seat during team formation trainings, but now this practice is disabled.
The "RUSS" aerobatic team was formed in 1987 from Vjazma Air Training Centre to be participates at Tushino Air Show. First, the pilots practiced with L-29 aircraft, but it was difficult to handle because of the high-located stabilizer. That forced the team to transfer to L-39. Vjazma Air Training Centre received 10 new L-39 Albatros aircraft and began training under the leadership of Farid Akchurin. Soon the team was ready and then in August 1987 performed with nine camouflage painted L-39s at Tushino air parade.
In 1998 all team's planes received special blue-white color scheme.

In 2011 during MAKS air show the team participated in five ship formation.
From 2012 the RUSS aerobatic team will become civil one with a new paint scheme. Vyazma Aviation Training Center, where the team is based, converts its planes to civil ones, which allows more flexibility to fly outside Russia.

Edit: All ten skins are now updated to work with the new mapping. Sorry for the inconvenience but ah... the risks of skinning Beta planes  ;)

Yes though I can't remember what it was or where I downloaded it from. But I pretty much like having that faded/yellowish look. Guess I'm trying to convince myself it looks more realistic like that ;)

Not yet. I'll try to update it these days if I can find some spare time. Right now I'm a bit busy writing my thesis as I'm graduating university in February 2012, but I guess there's always time for a relaxing/mind clearing skinning session  ;)

this may be a very silly question, but how did you get only 1 pilot to be in that plane?

That was an old version of the mod. For various reasons with bailout and crewing it now has 2 pilots always. The final release will probably include a separate slot one for one pilot with the 12 second engine acceleration as opposed to the current 3. The tandem slot may also have the same engine acceleration, we shall see.
